Giving one star because it is mandatory. Yesterday afternoon, whomever the hostess was needs to be fired. The staff in this establishment are extremely unprofessional and flat out RUDE . The hostess is the first representation of your company. If this is who you hired something is definitely wrong. I wanted to say borderline racist but I refrained from that statement. I just left this place with my partner and the staff here are clearly discriminate towards black people. We arrived there around 5:50pm. A waiter/host man came to the front without acknowledging us. A woman finally arrived and escorted us to the back of the restaurant passing available booths. We were confused yet sat and kept our composure. We wanted happy hour and the waiter flatly told us it's only at the bar and walked off. My partner and I was uncomfortable and sat at the bar. NO ONE came our way to serve us anything. Bartender was good, my guava margarita was really good; however, the guacamole was bland, not very tasty, an ice cream scoop size portion, ridiculous! Now for the "watch out for the price" warning! Take note of the photos below. The menu states one price, and the bill was $2.00 more. If my friend had'nt noticed, I'd have paid without realizing. The bartender advised that the price went up and I should speak to the manager for a price adjustment. The manager, while professional, advised the price went up about a month ago and the bartender is supposed to tell the customer and they decide if they want to pay. "What"? I call bull... What ever happened to"truth in advertising"? I went on to ask the mgr, "why has the menu not been corrected or a sign put up and in the menu after 1 month? Again, his answer was "the bartender is suppose to tell you". I told him that's illegal and immoral and should be corrected. He adjusted both our bills, but I bet there's still no sign or menu adjustment. Also, it's neither fair nor realistic to expect the bartender; especially when busy, to remember to advise every customer of a price increase not corrected in a menu. I ordered from Rancho Grande and seriously regret it. To start off, I didn't get everything with my order. They sent me a salad with no dressing. I got the combo appetizer that included nachos but all it was was two chips with cheese on top. My steak was supposed to come with chimichurri sauce but it didn't. They only slapped some diced ups onions on top and said it was the sauce. I called the manager at the restaurant and he was not helpful at all. He told me they never serve their salads with dressing and the diced up onions on top is the chimichurri sauce. I've had a lot of chimichurri sauce...that's not it. Excited for some Mexican goodness, I stumbled upon this establishment on a Saturday afternoon and at first glance at the "all out" Mexican decor, I was psyched! I thought to myself, "This is gonna be good." My excitement lasted through the tasty Margarita while waiting for the food. The waiter was nice too! However, the food came and it was downhill from there. First off, we had three waiters, only the first one was nice but we didn't see him again; then the tortillas and salsa tasted like wet cardboard. We then ordered the guac which was mis-flavored? A first! I love guac and has always had wonderful, fresh guac at nice establishments (like I thought this was), especially when made at the table! Not this time. That guac confused us as we saw him put in all the right ingredients but the outcome was a big fail. We doused it in salt and hoped it would get better. It didn't. Our main dishes were equally as non eventful. I only wanted calamari and tortillas both disappointing. The 'fried' calamari was a rubbery offense to the tastebuds that tasted pretty raw to me and you know how I felt about the chips and guac... My partner had Taquitos al Carbon with rice and beans; he wasn't thrilled about that either so we choked down as much as we could, turned down the offer to take the remaining to go; had more drinks and left with our appetites unfulfilled and grave disappointment. I would understand if i was in NYC but in Westchester, no way. At first I was apprehensive because a couple years ago I had came here for my birthday and gotten instantly sick after eating there steak in brandy sauce getting really sick and immediately after getting sick in the bathroom feeling better . Long story short when asking for the bar bill the bartender charged us for the two coco margaritas that we had brought over for dinner . We had only ordered 1 margarita at the bar and a pair of drinks . After telling him he was unapologetic and frankly looked like he had been drinking himself . He refunded the 82 dollar bill and now we have to wait a few days for the refund and charged us the correct 41 dollars . He literally charged us double of what he was suppose to with no apology or explanation at all. For that price, they better be the best tacos in the northeast. Either that or the order should come with 8 tacos. How in the world can the owner justify those prices? Anyone who walks in does so with the understanding that this place does not offer anything close to a fine dining experience. I I ordered the mole poblano chicken. Somehow this was $28, a whole $1 less than the greatest fish tacos in the world. The mole sauce was underwhelming and the chicken was on the rubbery side. It was as disappointing as I expected it to be. Besides the lousy and offensively overpriced food, the decor of this place is tacky and the staff seems a bit clueless. I am not sure how a place like this stays in business. This restaurant has the atmosphere and the food that will wow anyone. The staff is attentive. The food's presentation is creative. The menu is more extensive than usual. The decor is better then Mexican hats on the walls that most Mexican restaurants have. Friday's & Saturday's there is music. The bar is impressive in itself and there are premium tequilas. The tables by the windows may not have the romantic view that Sanborns on Madera in Mexico City has but, it's not bad. There is a large, more or less, private dining area suitable for parties. The bar has top shelf tequilas; Avion, Don Julio, 1800, and more. I was down in Yonkers yesterday with my girlfriend, and we remembered the very pleasant time when we were here months ago. Since then we've dined a few times. Never the same thing. It's as great as before. I've been to Mexico City many times and have had more than just antojitos and street food that most North Americans "think" is real Mexican food or if it's intolerably spicy then it's 'authentic.' She enjoyed her Alemeda mexicana and the two sauces were perfect with it. The molè is not too chocolaty. It was well balanced. One thing; if you don't know what something is? Ask! The service is attentive. There was something I haven't seen in years; the waiter Amendo pulling out the seats for the patrons and then placing the napkin on your laps. We love this place - we come often for birthdays. We visited yesterday for our Mexican coffees and guacamole. My husband told them it was my birthday. We ordered fajitas, appetizers and the drinks. Nobody came by with the Sombrero or to sing at our table. He mentioned it 3x to the staff that it was my bday. We watched them sing to other tables, but they still did not come to ours. We were anticipating a group of 30 on a Friday, early after work for an end of year celebration. We asked for happy hour and the manager stated he would reserve two tables and honor the happy hour prices for us. It was for happy hour, it was not for dinner. We gave a $200 deposit. it was a state of emergency with the air quality and we still went because we were told we would lose the deposit. There was NO ONE in the restaurant besides us and I mean NO ONE. 15 of us showed up. From the beginning some manager, I think his name was Gestapo, stated we would not be getting our deposit back because all 30 people did not show up and he had "extra staff in the back and on the floor to help all of us" and they were not going to pay for that. We mentioned we were the only people in the restaurant, we were never ordering dinner, we at least came and were spending money and he did not care. He was terribly rude and disrespectful to us. He told us another manager would speak to us but was out sick. We never did see any extra people... When one of our co-workers brought her grand daughter, we had to be moved to a table since we were in the bar area, (which was our original agreement). Gestapo then told us he could now not honor the happy hour prices because we were moving and "you cancelled our reservation". When asked how we were paying for extra staff even though now he is stating our reservation was cancelled, (which is was not) he was not sure what to stay so he checked the book. Miraculously Gestapo came and told us, (in a long winded explanation), our reservation was not cancelled and we could move and he would honor the happy hour prices now, which only included drinks. We still have not received any word form the other absent manager and Gestapo is a terrible spokes person and should not in any way be dealing with any customer service issues. Not one person in our party would ever return to this restaurant after the service we received. It was shameful. I will say our waitress was awesome and apologetic. The best table side prepared guacamole, white Sangria, salsa and a huge menu to choose from!! I had my beloved crunchy beef chimichangas with a side of rice and re fried beans, always great! Our other "Tasty Lady" Therese had vegetarian burritos that was filled with grilled veggies also with a side of rice and beans.
