Mayan Octopus
Sunil T.

Phenomenal. I ate dinner at Ramona twice during my one week stay at Nizuc. The first dinner experience was on a Saturday night. We tried a few different cocktails, and I don't remember their names (mostly margaritas) and they were all delicious. The waiter presents you with different bread options, all of which were good though the jalapeño bread was spicy. The octopus appetizer (pictured) was especially good. I ordered the lobster entree which was excellent. It came on a bed of rice and beans with a side of flour tortillas, essentially to make tacos from. The churro dessert came as a variety of three different sauces to dip the churros in, along with a small cup of mocha coffee. Personally, the eggnog churro sauce was the best. On Saturday nights they have mariachi, and the entertainers will serenade you tableside. Service was excellent. The restaurant overlooks the Caribbean Sea. Five stars all around.

This restaurant has a beautiful ambience. A combination of classic Mayan Mexican dishes with a very modern twist in the presentation of the food, and the complementary tastes that we experienced on this culinary journey. We were a group of six, and were all very pleased with the dishes that we ordered! The food was not only artfully presented but the tastings were perfect!! Throughout our meal, the chef offered us small "amuse bouches" that were artfully arranged and gave each of us a fresh perspective on traditional Mexican food. The desserts should NOT be missed!! Be sure to leave some room for these beautiful and tasty treasures!!

This restaurant is located inside the Nizuc Resort. The resort is insane, very private and luxurious. This place should be reserved for special occasions - think nyc/london prices! I highly recommend making a reservation here, they are on open table. Before letting you enter the resort, they verify that you have a reservation. Once you get to the restaurant you are greeted (by name) and escorted to your table. You are assigned a personal waiter for the rest of your meal. We had our main waiter +3 other people serving (one for wine, new plates, clearing plates). The service is impeccable here. The menu is very straight forward, lots of fish dishes and some meats. I recommend the trio ceviche, lots of layers of great flavors. Also they have some rotating tuna and salmon dishes. The tuna dish is pretty much raw tuna, be aware of that if you order. The salmon dish is cooked in traditional spices with some great flavors. They have a huge wine list. They bring an ipad to the table and you can filter the wine by type/location/brand/etc... Overall it was a great experience and worth coming to this place. They are attentive to every detail and make your dinner pleasurable.

Classy restaurant with modern high end Mexican food in a gorgeous resort. The amuse-bouche was a great little sandwich, quasadilla ball and pumpkin seed hummus which were all quite good. There were three types of bread, one with cheese and peppers that was unique and tasty, with local olive oil and seasoned butter. We had the local pumpkin appetizer which was very pretty but not overly flavorful. Then we shared the eggplant barbacoa and beef & chichilo which were both great. To finish we had churros with three sauces and hot chocolate. They also gave us a chocolate dipped plantain with raspberry powder and on the way out a small bag with two chocolates. The service was excellent with multiple attentive servers that shared helpful recommendations about the food and tequila we tried. Definitely a great experience.

I'm not sure why every restaurant in Cancun requires reservation only to show up and find an empty restaurant most of the time. But this is one of those that require a reservation and sure enough it was mostly empty. This is a modern take on Mexican cuisine. The chef is talented. The bread selection was exquisite. Jalapeño bread must try. Main courses we tried were not memorable other than the portions were small. I mean trout dish was basically 2 small strips of fish... Service was okay not great. However they do give females gifts on way out. If you are in the area would try it again but not sure would fly around world to come back.

The weather was beautiful, so we were able to sit outdoors. I ordered the coconut shrimp, and it came out in a coconut shell! That meal has lived rent free in my mind ever sense. You can tell that the waiters love what they're doing and all help each other. This place is by the lagoon so every table is a picture-taking location. But be careful of the crocodilo... of course, it's by the lagoon. The place itself is clean.. and the lagoon is clear water too. Now the food... it's as simple as, I can dine in this place everyday! It's not that expensive but the presentation, the service and the taste is like a 5-star fine dining restaurant. Even the drinks! I ordered their clam chowder (you can see in the attached video on how they served it), lobster tail wrapped with bacon, my hubby ordered salad (which was also excellent presentation), and steak. Let's not forget the chips that is on the house with 3 different taste buds sauces... tamarind (sweet), avocado (salty) and chipotle (spicy). Love love love! I should say, your visit in Cancun is not complete without visiting this excellent restaurant!

In the past this place has always been a staple for us, but each year we go we like it a little less. This year majority of the group was disappointed in the entire experience from the service to the food. To start, the service was lacking compared to what we get at other local restaurants nearby. Our servers did not frequently come back to ask if we needed anything and we were constantly having to ask to get our waters refilled. The drinks are good, but nothing we can't get elsewhere. Half of our group enjoyed (but not loved) their food and half did not enjoy. My SO and I split the al pastor meal. In the past we have loved this, but this time it felt like they rushed to make it and the flavors we remembered just weren't there. It was still good, but I think it could have been better. I do love the churro cart here, but you can get good churros several other places. Overall, this place has gone downhill in our opinion, and for the price it isn't worth it when there so many better options close by. I'm sure we will be back, but I think we might skip a year stopping here.

Many of the dishes have strange ingredients that the regular gringo hasn't heard of, which makes this even more exotic! I consider myself a mexican food expert, to some degree, and they're serving dishes that are so inventive, so wild, so fresh, so delicious! The dining area is split between a covered outside area, and seating on the grass overlooking the lagoon. Be careful, there's alligators in there! The service was fantastic- the waiter was patient, spoke English, and made excellent recommendations. I got fish with peppers, octopus ceviche, and some mezcal, followed by a honey and anise Mayan drink. All of which were delicious! My dining companion had a strange pepper with some fish- also nom! Coming here was like a history cuisine lesson, mixed with delicious food, wonderful scenery and a pleasant meal! My favorite part of this place is the artwork when you come in. I saw so many videos and read so much hype about this place. I was excited to try it. I was just as disappointed when I threw out my burrito after a couple of bites. The food here is not good. It is so basic. I ordered chili cheese fries, and a burrito. For the burrito, you have to complete a form for your customizations, which I thought was going to be efficient. Unfortunately, despite my burrito, having everything in it that it was supposed to, I was overwhelmed by the massive amount of onions. Additionally, I was underwhelmed by the amount of shrimp inside my burrito. There weren't many at all and the entire burrito literally tasted like nothing. I ordered the shrimp and mahi. There was absolutely nothing remarkable about it. For a second, I almost wondered if I had Covid because the flavor was so lacking. But after speaking to friends of mine who also visited, I realized that I wasn't the only one. In total, I spent about US$32 on an order of chili cheese fries, a jerk, chicken, quesadilla, and a burrito. Fries: so bland. I wanted to throw them out, but I saved them and took them back to my hotel and added salt. It helped a bit, but these were overwhelmingly underseasoned and lacking flavor. The portion, however, was huge. Two out of five. Burrito: more mahi-mahi than shrimp, and neither protein was flavorful. The entire burrito was very bland and was full of more onions than I would ever care to eat. The burrito wasn't OK size, but it did not taste good. Two out of five. Jerk, chicken quesadilla: basic. Not super flavorful. And the chicken did not taste like jerk chicken at all. It didn't even have jerk flavor. Didn't even taste like they rolled the chicken in a little bit of jerk before cooking it. Three out of five. The staff noticed that I did not eat much of my food and asked if I didn't like it. I informed them that I did not like it and that I didn't think it had enough flavor. They did not care. I didn't fully expect them to because I know customer service is very different in Mexico, but I expected more. She even asked if the burrito was too spicy, which was hilarious because there was nothing spicy or even flavorful about it. This is very much a hole in the wall, kind of spot that has been blown up on social media. Very casual vibes, and there appears to be a small roof area where you can overlook the street. I would not return here. I also would not recommend it. Another example of influencers likely getting free food in exchange for review reviews. However, they do have a sign up that says you can get a free shot if you leave a review.
