Wow... place was packed. I never expected the inside from what the outside looked like. It was really pretty inside and very welcoming. We were seated almost immediately and drinks came really quickly. The food was really flavorful with just the right amount of everything!!! My son didn't like the curry as it was really thick, more like a pasta dish instead of ramen and not what he expected based on his normal curry ramen. For appetizers, we ordered a chicken karaage where most of the bites were all batter and no chicken. The chashu pork I ordered was good, though the ratio of pork to rice/bean sprouts was way out of proportion; was left with an almost full bowl of rice and no meat by the end of it. My party ordered yakisoba (combination chicken and beef) and curry- both were subpar in terms of flavor. Ordered a peach tea boba and the boba was hard and somewhat crunchy (?). If you like spicy, get the Tori Red. (I'll update with pics next time I go in) Food is delicious, love their heart attack appetizers, garlic edamame is good and so is their mixed tempura plate (shrimp, veggies, etc) While I can't speak for in-door service here, I can tell you their take out is always A1! Packaged perfectly, have never had an accident and staff is always really welcoming. Decor inside the restaurant is always super cute as well. One more thing.... Came at 7pm on a Monday. Not too busy, only waited about 5 min to be seated! Ordered loaded mussels and ebiyaki for apps and they were so good I forgot to take pics! Only took about 5-10 min for apps to get to our table! As we were finishing our apps we got our ramen. My husband ordered a Donkatsu Black and I ordered a Tori black. Soooo yummy! Broth was so flavorful and creamy and came out steaming. Seriously so good! The chili oil was a perfect touch not too spicy but just enough and it adds a great flavor to the broth. Place is very cute inside! The ramen was good but the only bad thing about it was anything else you want in it extra is an extra charge. So it can get pretty expensive because everything I wanted in it costs an extra .50 to $1 for each thing. The heart attack appetizer was pretty good also! When I pointed this out the waitress politely took the bowl back to the kitchen. In less than two minutes a different server brought the bowl back, the pork had been swapped for the chicken. The soup was still different than what I had ordered. I had to point out that the garlic chips I was being charged extra for was still missing and the appetizer had never came. Both left on the table without a word a few minutes later. The broth itself is bleh. The noodles? Gummy. Combined, it was what I imagine the color beige tastes like. So... it was very busy@ It took a little while to get seated. We got our beers and water right away. 99 cents Sapora was a bonus! We ordered appetizers of gyoza and garlic edamame. It took a little while to get them but they were extremely busy. We got our garlic and "a on the house" edamame. Then our Raman bowls came. They were a very good size. I got the #5 and my husband got the #2. I got mine without corn and extra mushrooms. They charge fur the extra even tho I did a sustitute... ok no problem. Chicken soup ramen has Teriyaki chicken on the top, not pork charshu. Their menu says DONKOTSU instead of TONKOTSU. Correct Japanese pronunciation is TONKOTSU. They have good verity of appetizer, I like their Karaage. We ordered Garlic Edamame and Karaage for appetizer but they came after we got our ramens. I tried the Chicken Cutlet, California Roll, and the "Donkotsu Red". The chicken was cooked well and tasty and the California roll was average. The ramen broth was good, probably the best in the AV, though the noodles were overcooked and mushy. The Ramen toppings were mediocre and their ginger overpowers the rest of the soup. It would be nice to see a Ramen place in the AV use quality noodles or make them fresh like Ramen restaurants in LA. I'll definitely try this place again before I pass final judgement, hopefully they can improve their noodles. read more
