When people ask me where they can find the best ramen in KC, I cite here instead, as it's absolutely worth the drive to Lawrence. (I have never seen it not busy, so I feel people might agree with me.) I absolutely love that they offer shredded chicken as a protein to swap out pork in the ramen. I've only ever had, and highly recommend, the Tokyo Shoyu, sub for chicken - it's a simple ramen, but it isn't too salty, and no one ingredient within is overpowering. Their appetizers are just as popular (and borderline filling); if they're not sold out, ask for the crab rangoon. Just as importantly, be prepared to wait for seating if you're visiting during the popular meal times. I've seen the wait be as long as 15 minutes, but as soon as a table opens up (and the employees are QUICK to clean it up), you can order and be seated. So good, enjoy! read more

I have never ever been disappointed by my food here. Every ramen I've tried has been great (I love the spicy chicken curry and pad thai in particular) and the gyoza are great too. I think prices are reasonable for what you get, and everything tastes fresh. If there's any complaints about Ramen Bowls, it's that it can be too busy and hectic to come here during dinner time and on weekends. This is a bustling Lawrence spot, so plan accordingly. And don't expect to easily get a group larger than 4 in here. My friend also said during our last visit that the restrooms were not well kept, so that's something that needs improvement. Ramen Bowls will always be a Lawrence all-time favorite. You won't eat anything bad here, I swear. I no longer eat meat, but I remember their pork belly and broth being phenomenal! This visit I ordered the veggie ramen (and added an egg) and pickle plate. The ramen? Chef's kiss. The kimchi was also SO good (the rest of the pickle plate was sweet though, so didn't love that)- in the future hopefully they could do a side of just kimchi. The only down side of our experience was the seating inside. There's never many open tables, and a lot of the tables were in the sun; eating ramen when it's almost 100 degrees out isn't great. I've been going to this Ramen place since they first opened in 2013. I'm extremely happy to say the food has only consistently improved and has always been delicious. The service is amazing and the decor is funky and fun. The Hokkaido Miso Ramen has always been my #1. And has become my basis for every miso ramen I have ever had in America. The handmade noodles really make a standout texture and flavor from other ramen places. And the broth flavors are all well spiced, full-bodied and delicious. The Dumplings and chicken wontons are also delicious and great appetizer choices. The newest location is extremely spacious, clean and well decorated. I've frequented the business since before they even moved from the 10th-ish street to the Mass. St, let alone its current location where I believe the owner needs to hire some consultants on how to keep it functional service-wise during lunch or dinner hours. I did enclose (elements of) the following comment months ago in the payment-platform website remark that I sent & only the restaurant would receive. Anyways. They moved a couple hundred feet from their previous location to what once was Gold Medal BBQ, which offered great food with completely dysfunctional service. On the defense-side of both businesses, the floor plan does not help. But despite how the long wait & now rather uninformative menu have discouraged me from visiting the place as-often, I could not help notice the bottleneck of lunch/dinner hour operations being the front-desk or a certain waiter/waitress doing laps walking through what is the map of Chile for a restaurant & not being able to attend to customers for 10+ minutes. They have probably designed & printed their menus with more aspiration than frontal-lobe activities. Their old, one-letter-sized-page menu would contain introductions to their cocktails (it'd be someone's own fault if he/she did not know what a Bloody Mary would contain, but not with some of their cocktail items not registering on Google as something in liquid form); but their current one cares more about looking like a mixture of a comic book / a fashion magazine. You'd even see an article covering some person's journey named "hopelessly ramentic" as if a guest should expect to read it through waiting for someone to take his/her order. Seriously, with a business to run and that big of an ego, I'd still say the owner can satiate the ego better with more in net income. To be brutally honest here, we are in Kansas. I cannot redirect you to Hakkata Ikkousha in Costa Mesa, CA and pretend my advice to be meaningful. But a "mid" ramen joint with swift service was one thing I that loved. On a side note, the Ikkousha joint I frequented has absolutely streamlined their service procedures. Their ramen dishes were not more expensive; but with good operational management (facing conspicuously higher demand), the consumers were allowed to have their cravings satiated & return to other mundane tasks quite fast -- which is the role of ramen in Japan anyways. read more

Love this place for ramen! I always like trying something new on their menu because it's guaranteed to be good. The staff is always friendly. Sometimes the food doesn't come out that quick but it's worth the wait. I haven't tried many of the appetizers but they always look good. The "small" fried rice is actually quite big and has a pretty strong garlic flavor to it. We tried this pickled variety for an appetizer, which was a little too pickled/sweet and not my favorite but was only $2. The goddess bowl caught my eye: miso, tofu, spinach, cabbage and avocado! It was absolutely delicious. The noodles are all made in house. You actually get to walk by the noodles station on your way to order. They make a few different varieties of noodle so be sure to ask if you like a thicker or thinner noodle. I also had the chance to try the spam musabi during my last order and it, too, was good My only minor gripe is their online ordering. I ordered around 5:50pm and chose a 6:30pm pickup slot. When I arrived a few mins early, I was told it would be another ten minutes. Ultimately I got my food just after 6:55pm. Driving thru town during a road trip and wanted something that's not fast food. Coming from West Coast, especially LA, I am spoiled with tons of ramen. A friend of ours said this was the place to go, so we went. Parking is either on the street or a parking garage in the back. It's a order first and sit down type of place. Quite hip and trendy with tons of origami cranes floating above. I ordered the Hokkaido Tonkatsu Miso Ramen, while others ordered Pad Thai and Dumpling Ramen. I was really excited to have some comforting food. When it came, it was warm-hot, which makes me think that it wasn't hot enough to completely cook the noodles since they were a little on the firmer side, IMO. Again, I am spoiled with ramen noodles in LA so I'm trying to be fair. Flavor was great, not a big fan of the burnt/grilled? onions that they sprinkled on there, especially when I asked for no onions. It changed the flavor for me, but nonetheless I enjoyed having some comfort noodles. I think the bowl sizes are on the smaller side, since I was the first to finish my bowl when I'm sitting next to two big guys! I wasn't full to be honest, but did the job. In my few years of living in Lawrence, Ramen Bowls has easily been one of my favorite places to eat. It's been difficult to find a restaurant that matches its pricing, service (see below!!), and quality of food (my favorite being their Goddess bowl :). I am consistently impressed with RB's service--from their hosts, to anyone at the ordering station, to (especially) their serving staff. Despite being a very busy restaurant, our server Dara was quick, precise, and kind. On a date at the Mass St. location, she made us feel at ease by asking about our plans for the evening and offering kind conversation. This rating breaks my heart. I used LOVE Ramen Bowls and the food is good, when prepared correctly but anymore that is never the case. Order something with no Nori, they don't care they will add it. Order extra pork belly to an order whoops sorry about that. I placed an order for delivery that went unacknowledged for over 2 hours finally I had to call the restaurant to see what's up and get the order canceled. Later that night someone from Ramen bowls came and brought me someone else's order. I did call in and let them know so I let could be corrected. As Ramen Bowls is constantly letting me down with their service I didn't want to be an unintentional source of pain for someone else's evening. I ordered my standard double soup because it's good for days and did not get enough broth for the food I was sent. I called to complain and was met with a rude associate who essentially was so little help I had to call back several times to speak the general manager. He was quick to know that there's been issues with past orders and clearly remembers me. I guess the part where I try to make sure that the errors that they are perpetuating with me don't carry on to other consumers just totally slipped his mind however he was also incredibly unhelpful. He wanted let me know that there seems to be a lot of "perceived" problems with past orders. I don't think I cancelled order that was canceled because it was not acknowledged for over 2 hours and then being brought someone else's food and ever is a perceived problem. Nor do I think not receiving the items that you have paid for is a perceived problem. In my mind those are real and factual problems when you are paying for food from a restaurant. If you think those are not real problems management might not be for you. I keep trying to give Ramen bowls second chances after just totally egregious errors and service connected to those errors. Today the store associate I spoke with verbally acknowledged to me that it was a mistake and it should not be on to me to correct it however if I did want it corrected I would have to come down there and do so myself. When a employee verbally acknowledges an error in that way, I don't take that as a perceived problem, I take that as a factual problem. The food always comes out so hot and I like that you can tell how fresh it really is.
