We met up with friends on Valentine's evening, and the place was packed! The decor was friendly, not fussy, and atmosphere was relaxed. As there is no reservations taken, we waited about 30 min for a table. Drinks were ordered & arrived quickly. Appetizers were fresh & tasty (got eaten before pics). The bar had run out of olive brine for dirty martinis, but they compensated (?) with more vodka, so... the hubs was happy. I ordered the poutine app for my main dish, but was brought something else. Pasta with sausage, peppers & onions, which was delicious, though a bit mysterious in the low lighting. The prices were fair, the food quality was top shelf, and the portions are enormous. All four in our party were first-time patrons, and all had an exceptionally positive experience. We were recommended to try the lasagna but it was sold out by the time we ordered, sigh! We'll be back! This newer spot has so much of the bygone friendly Lawrence feel, and I just loved it! This may be my new favorite restaurant in town. read more

It's been a couple of decades since I have had an upscale dining experience in Lawrence. We were in town for a concert at Liberty Hall and Fork & Tumbler looked interesting from the Yelp reviews, so we popped in at 5:30pm on a Saturday night to a packed house. We were lucky enough to get the last open table - unfortunately it was near the front door which created a lot of cold air upon us. It also meant that the poor souls that came in after us were standing around watching us eat while waiting for a hostess and a table to open up. slightly annoying, but it kept us on our best table manners. lol. We did have a bit of a wait between the waiter giving us a run down of the menu and availability of items and his return to take our order, but no fault of his since everyone we saw was hustling and multitasking to take care of an overflow crowd. The food came out fairly quickly upon ordering. I ordered a side salad and the lasagna, my wife ordered the Jalapeño Cornbread Crab Cakes. My side salad was generous in its assortment of greens and veggies with cheese and croutons, but was lacking in dressing. I would have asked for an additional side cup, but the waiter was already overloaded. My wifes crab cakes with remoulade were very tasty from the samples that I had. yet the star of the meal / week was the the best damn Lasagna that I've ever had! Stacked tall with about 40 layers (give or take 30) of heavily seasoned meat, pasta, red sauce, alfredo sauce and cheese and topped with two perfect bread sticks. Wow! Thankfully the weather was cool, so I had no problem taking part of it home for a second meal later. I'd love to return and sample some of the Udon noodle dishes, sticky ribs or even the cheeseburger. They all looked wonderful from a distance. Great service, food and atmosphere!! I was greeted when I entered this establishment for the first time. Everyone was very friendly and I took a seat at the bar. I had heard many good things about Fork and Tumbler and this was their chance to empress me and that they did!! I was greeted by one of the owners and the bartender took my order. The chicken sandwich was cooked and prepared perfectly and the crab cakes were some of the best I have had in the Midwest!! Please try this locally owned establishment. If you have the means add it to your rotation. If you're looking for a special occasion restaurant in Lawrence this is a great choice!! read more

We dined in last Saturday night. They are open Thursday through Saturday 5pm - 9pm. When we arrived people were outside waiting for the doors to open. (good sign). We sat at the bar, met a nice couple who had been in before and they raved about the great food. We ordered the Stuffed Zucchini Blossoms and Fried Brussels. They were delicious and plentiful so much so we shared our shareable with our new acquaintances. They shared their tender fried chicken sandwich and Chinese Donuts with us. For dinner I had the Meatballs and my husband had the Lasagna and again the portions were large. The lasagna is about 11 layers of delectable meat and sauce, the meatballs XL and very flavorful. We also enjoyed a couple of drinks made by Rob, while we were watching the action in the kitchen led by Walt. What a great place. Stopped by for a late dinner. Delicious food and great portions for the price. Service was top notch too. Had one of the best burgers I've had in a long time, fried slice of prosciutto instead of bacon, a revelation. Soup for the side was rich and delicious. We also had the Mongolian beef udon noodles, more soup than stir fry, but wow. The flavor was amazing and it was huge. We took so much home. Also a side salad, which was closer to the size of a dinner salad at most restaurants. Drinks were good. This feels like a hidden gem in Lawrence. Really good deal for the price. read more

I checked this place out with my husband and another couple. The waiter was very friendly fella. We asked questions & he knew the answers. He recommend "The Chicken" sandwich. Two of the people in my party ordered the chicken & it was a very big chicken sandwich. Each could only eat half. The other person in my party ordered "Chef Walters Signature Lasagna", after eyeing it at another diner's table. It was amazing & gigantic. If I had to guess the lasagna was 7"x7"x5". I'm ordering the lasagna next time! I wanted to order something different from the rest of my party. Based off the waiter's recommendation I ordered the Udon Shrimp in Light Thai Peanut Broth. It did not disappoint. I ended up getting 4 meals out of that dish. We each enjoyed a cocktail since it was New Year's Eve. I ordered a Aperol Cosmos, very light & amazing. We shared a couple of appetizers as well, Calamari & Whipped Goat Cheese with Garlic Fry Bread. Both were large & delightful. Some of the best Calamari I've ever ate. Can't recommend this place enough. There is some never ending road construction going on right out in front of the place. The whole street, ALL 4 lanes, was blocked off. Ok. First time here. Service excellent, portions large and atmosphere was good. We ordered garlic fry bread and goat cheese, my wife had salmon salad and I had chicken parm Caesar salad. Garlic fry bread was great and salmon salad was good as well. So i have a suggestion for the chicken parm salad. Since you serve whole romaine leaves in a round bowl they would be better on a plate so it is easier to cut into bite size pieces. 2nd, season season the chicken w some salt and parm cheese in bread crumbs as all it tasted like was chicken strips on romaine. Didnt think it was a traditional chicken parm. We will be back but just wanted to give my 2 cents read more

Went to eat there tonight. Published and on the door was 4:00 and they came out and said they were not opening until 5:00. One, I called last week as we had a party of 7 and no one called us back. Two, we came from out of town so waiting an hour was not really an option for all coming. Three, when you publish on your door and website that you open at 4:00 on a limited schedule anyways, you should open at 4:00. I was bringing my family - the food is great, but I won't be able to make this happen again for my mother's 70th birthday. read more

Oh my gosh, I'm from KC but I would come over any time. We got the ribs and zucchini for apps, both were delicious with fairly mild flavor. Very friendly service, with comfortable ambiance. The fried chicken sandwich was so good, the smoked tomato udon was sooooo good. Not spicy but still so good. The lasagna was about 4 servings for smaller or medium appetite size, full of plenty of meat, only note on that would be about one or two tablespoons more sauce. This was our 4th dinner experience at Fork and Tumbler. The cocktails are amazing! The calamari was chewy, the meatballs was so salty that they were not editable. We told our server that he should let the chef know. He came back with "the chef said he will take that into consideration ". Never offer to comp it. We walked here last night and had an amazing meal. Will be back for sure. Sat at the bar and ordered the spicy watermelon margarita. We split the wings - superb! Excellent tangy sweet heat. Also split the hamburger and was impressed. Tasty toppings and the roasted tomato buttermilk dressing I ordered on the side as a dipper was terrific with my fries.
