He didn't simply take our order--he guided us through the entire experience. His knowledge of the menu was impressive, from explaining dishes in detail to recommending wine pairings that complemented the meal perfectly. He checked on us consistently without ever being intrusive and genuinely made us feel welcome. He wasn't just selling food; he was representing the restaurant and the overall dining experience, and he did so exceptionally well. The restaurant itself strikes a wonderful balance between sophisticated and approachable. It feels upscale without being pretentious. I appreciated the attention to detail throughout the space, including the beautiful brass accents above the bar. The patio looked inviting, although the summer heat made indoor seating the better choice during our visit. The food arrived surprisingly quickly, and every dish we ordered was outstanding. Some of the selections were served chilled, which likely contributed to the speed, but nothing felt rushed. The quality and presentation were excellent. My only minor caution is parking. Depending on when you arrive, you may need to park a couple of blocks away and walk. It's not a deal-breaker, but it's worth planning for. If you're unfamiliar with the area, it may be helpful to call ahead and ask for parking recommendations. Got it -- here's the revised version with that correction integrated cleanly: We stopped in for a quick snack before waiting for the streetcar during the World Cup. We didn't have reservations and were dressed casually. The hostess was friendly and welcoming, and we were seated in what was referred to as the "other dining room," down a dark hallway into a musty, warm, and humid space. Service was prompt and courteous, but the food was very disappointing. We were served a cucumber salad that oddly tasted like peanuts, followed by six completely flavorless meatballs--no seasoning at all, not even salt. The prices might be reasonable if the quality matched expectations, but it didn't. The contrast between the main dining room and the "other room" also felt stark and uncomfortable, as if it were a second-tier seating area. This very might be my favorite restaurant ever. I am a sucker for delicious tapas and immaculate vibes, and Extra Virgin has them both! With a nice outdoor patio right off a streetcar stop and a fun and fancy indoor, I always have so much fun here for dinner and drinks. I have been here for casual dinners, dates, anniversaries, and everything in between and have loved it every time! Everyone is always so kind and helpful, recommending their favorite plates and how much food should be enough for your party. They rotate out some of their plates periodically, keeping the menu fresh and new, while also keeping the classics that I love. My absolute favorite dish that I get every time is the grilled ricotta and bread as an appetizer. The ricotta is perfectly light and the bread is charred to perfection, I highly recommend it. Goat cheese pastries were sooo good very creamy middle and the sauce added a nice fruity acidity. Pasta was really good and not what we expected. The sauce was more similar to a massaman curry flavor but it was very good. The homemade ricotta was really creamy but nothing crazy special flavor wise. Still really good though! Jammy eggs- similar to deviled eggs. The spice was almost a little too sour but the pistachios were really good on them and the yolks were a perfect soft boil. The menu just had so many things that we love and he really helped narrow things down for us. We honestly didn't expect everything to be so damn tasty! Also, the portions were so generous! Made a reservation for dinner on New Year's eve during our trip to KC. We got to our table within a couple of minutes. The restaurant was sort of packed. I liked the red color themed interior, with wall arts and decor. The single page menu had appetizers, salads, seafood, pasta and meat dishes. We started with halved fudgy eggs aka deviled eggs. It had so much cilantro, paprika and other stuff on the top, totally distorted the flavor and the eggs were cold too. The lobster also similarly lacked flavor. In roasted bone marrow, I could barely find any marrow. Lots of scallion and some picked onion just thrown on top that didn't bring any enhancement to the dish. The grilled branzino was the best dish. Luckily this one had tiny herbs in controlled quantity, though again there was no real purpose for it. The service was fine overall. All staff members were friendly. Despite being busy, dishes came out in short intervals. We were done with the dinner in about an hour. But overall the food was very understanding to me, especially the enormous amount of different green garnish on top of every dish. read more

The mussels were fishier than they should have been (I know, they're mussels, but these just weren't the freshest). My favorite dish was the ricotta dip because of how light and fluffy it was. Whether you should choose La Bodega or Extra Virgin depends on what kind of experience you're looking for--La Bodega is a bit more traditional Spanish style, whereas this spot brings in outside influences to provide a more fusion feel. La Bodega is also better for groups since you could order a paella to share there, while Extra Virgin is harder to share for parties larger than 4, and Extra Virgin is more likely to run up a hefty bill. Comparisons aside, the quality of the food and the service at both are excellent. My group split five dishes between 8 people. To really feel full, we probably would've needed at least 2-3 more, but it was enough to feel good about the night. For recommendations, I'd say go for the smoked trout dip (my favorite of the dinner!) and lamb kebab, could probably pass on the branzino (tasty and super flaky but ultimately not good value for how much you pay and what comes out) and the octopus (disappointed by this one since I usually love octopus but this dish came out very metallic-tasting (?) with a grainy bean base that I wasn't in love with). read more

Now this is how you properly do tapas! Plenty of tapas to choose from, some more out there than others. The Grilled Bread & Ricotta is a must to start with, and you can get more bread for a small upcharge (worth it!). The Fattoush Salad was surprisingly, one of my favorite items. It was phenomenally flavored--- have honestly never had a salad like that before. The Mediterranean Rice was a Thursday Night special and lightly crisped. The Lamb Kebabs were beautifully plated and the pomegranate pairing was perfect. I'm not big on deviled eggs, but the Halved Fudgy Eggs were on another level. Of all the menu items, only the Chicken Liver Mousse (too out there, not my preferred taste) and Steamed Buns (I love pork belly, but the black garlic aioli was slathered on and too sweet for my liking) were a no. We were visiting to celebrate a birthday and they so kindly brought out complimentary desserts for the table! I'm not big on coconut but the Coconut Cake was good, and the Pineapple Passion Sorbet was actually so so refreshing and delicious. I'd order that again just for the sorbet. Churros aren't my preferred dessert but wow were they perfectly soft, chewy, and sweet. Overall, the food was delicious, albeit on the saltier side, but every dish was oh so flavorful. Just tried this KC staple for the first time recently and loved it! My boyfriend and I were looking for a new place to have a nice dinner kind of last minute and Extra Virgin squeezed us in! We sat in the semi private area, and honestly, I think sitting outside would have been better. Walking past the patio and dining area, the semi private room seemed a little less lively and charming, but it was still nice! Our server was great and I appreciated that there were a ton of drink/wine options. It is small plates which is pretty fun so you get to try a ton of stuff. We ordered the Lebanese Hummus, Chickpea Fries, Fudgy Eggs, Trout Dip, the Tomato Shrimp and the Turkish Chocolate Torte for dessert! I loved most of this, but I think the standouts were the hummus, shrimp and dessert! I could have gone without the chickpea fries which was a little disappointing but the texture was just a little soft for me. I have wanted to try Extra Virgin for some time. So glad we finally made it, as it was a good experience. First, parking can be tricky, but we were lucky. Both the restaurant and the patio were lovely, and felt warm and comfortable. Our actual table was fine, but very small for two when tapas are the primary offering. It was difficult to manage more than two food items, and we actually did not order any additional items because of this. The cocktails were fun and inventive and the food was good, though not outstanding as I was expecting. We had the giant prawns, hummus/Mezze spreads and a roasted feta plate. All were well prepared, though the prawns were slightly overdone and the feta was tough and difficult to spread. I felt like everything was close to hitting the mark, just missing by a bit. Veggies in addition to pita for the GF requirement. For the 4 of us we ordered: 1) meza spread--beet+carrot hummus + baba-ganoush --all excellent. 2) cucumber salad-not something I personally order but it was superb--the peanuts made it unique and tasty. 3) Grilled bread and ricotta cheese--very nice-plenty to share. 4) chickpea fries-interesting-not greasy and a nice dipping sauce. 5) 1/2 cornish game hen--a wonderful cinnamon rub and other spices-kinda small for 3 to share and beware of tiny bones! 6)beef skewer--tender, well spiced, tzatziki sauce to dip in and plenty to share.
