Returned to one of our KC favorites for Mediterranean food last night and were not disappointed! Cheerful and helpful server steered me towards the rose water lemonade and it was delicious, a good start! Their hummus is a dream, and my Sumac chicken was yummy, but the biggest hit for me was the side salad, perfectly fresh and crisp lettuces and veg and loved the dressing! I had ordered catering from Aladdin Cafe for a group of friends before, so I knew they were great. I wanted to take my wife here. We had an engagement right down the street so this was the perfect time. We had the grape leaves, hummus, tabouli and kifta plate. It was all great! We both agreed the hummus is among the best we've ever had. We prefer it to be tahini heavy (rather than garlic or spices) and this one is. It's creamy and perfect. Beautifully presented! The tabouli was HUGE! I wish they had a half portion. It was too much for 2 of us. But absolutely delicious! The grape leaves were good, but nothing special. The kifta plate was excellent!! Wonderful ground beef mixture and just what one expects with this classic dish. Steamed vegetables and rice with a mousses on top were a perfect complement to the beef. Service was quick and efficient. Glad we went early as the neighborhood gem fills up quickly on a Friday night. 5 stars. We will return and try more of the extensive menu. read more

Service was amazing!! Nice covered patio to sit on and not overly crowded. Sits in an older part of the city that is vibrant on Saturdays, excellent people watching. The food was tasty and great vegan options. The gyro platter was healthy portions and the meat was perfectly seasoned and tender. My falafel was also well seasoned, along with the baba ganoush. I went to Aladdin Cafe for lunch with some work friends and this was honestly SO good! We all could not stop talking about how delicious it was and how it may be our new hot spot. We started with hummus and pita and raved about how good it was. We couldn't stop eating it! For lunch I had the Cauliflower and Falafel sandwich. It was a little messy so I pretty much ate it with a fork but I would HIGHLY recommend it. The flavoring of the cauliflower was unbelievable and I honestly can't wait to eat it again. Food was solid for the price - we split the appetizer among 4 people, and we felt satisfied with the portions. Loved all the different spreads and hummus, and each tasted so fresh and flavorful. The main entree was prepared well, with plenty of spices and a good amount of char to the roasted vegetables and meats. It was a pretty big portion too - I was quite full from finishing it, but you could definitely split it into 2 meals. Giving the food a 4/5 for quality and price. Service was a bit lacking in my opinion. Our server only came by several times during the evening: once to take our orders, to bring our food to the table, and to bring the tab. Granted she was the only server that evening, but the restaurant was not busy when we came in, and we felt that our service left a bit to be desired. Ambiance overall was decent. We went here for lunch after a game of hockey in a tournament nearby. We were a bit hungry and we wanted to try Mediterranean as we don't have that much good choices back home. This place stood out because of the location. The entrance is not that pleasant because they have the restroom at front, so the smell of the restroom is what welcomes you. There were plenty of parking spot at front which is good. There's also street parking available. There was only one server that day, so our order was taken a bit longer. But the lady was very nice and I really have nothing negative to say, it's just the wait time. The first food came out, the Baba Ghanoush, and it was super good!! It came with pita bread and we ordered an extra because the baba ghanoush is plenty for just one serving of their pita. Our main dish came, and it's worth the wait. We loved their food, the serving is just right and you'll know that these are freshly made. I loved specifically their kids meal, those gyro on top of the fries was perfect for my little boy. He loves fries and this meal was perfect for him. He ate the gyro meat with no issues, he loved it. I also like what I had, which is their Alladin combo Gyro. The meat was plentiful, and I shared it with my wife. The rice is OK, a bit on the hard side, but the taste is good. Overall, this is a really good place to have lunch. read more

Aladdin Cafe has been in business since 1999, they are on a highly visible corner on a busy street that's nicknamed "Restaurant Row" that I cruise through often and I love Mediterranean food and yet today was my first visit!?!? I don't understand how that happens at all.... Aladdin did not rocket to the top of my list for this cuisine - I can think of a couple of other places that I would consider more favorable but it was solid. I ate alone so I did the Agrabah appetizer sampler plate with 5 different samplings, along with a couple of olives and feta, a cup of tahini and a basket of pita for $11+. The hummus, falafel, baba ghanouj were average with the standouts being the roasted red peppers and the stuffed dolmas topped with a sweet tomato sauce. Delish and economical. The food here was ok, but nothing to rave over. Greek salads are served w fresh Kalamata olives not black olives from a can, and tomato sauce is not traditionally served in top of Dolmas. Regardless, the food was fine. But when the establishment tips themselves up from the tip that you gave them, that's not only not ok, but it is technically illegal. I've always liked Aladdin quite a bit, but I feel like it's aging a little poorly to be honest. Over the years, their prices have shot up, particularly on their sandwiches. I like their Gyro with hummus, but it's now over the $10 mark, as are the vegetarian alternatives that I occasionally order. They do come with a lentil soup or a Greek salad, but the salad last time was about one and a half bites worth of lettuce. The past few times, the pita was super dry and the sandwiches were lacking a bit. Not bad, just not that great. Their hummus is some of the best around, and I'll die on that hill. However, the last order was incredibly light on the hummus. It was essentially half of what we normally get, and they left off the best part: the jalapeno chutney on top. While it sounds like this review is just on one sub-par visit, I've probably been here two dozen times since my last review and this is my consensus. I know this restaurant's been around for a long time but just decided to get takeout yesterday and boy it was very disappointing the stuffed grape leaves were just awful the lentils as a side order or is nothing but juice and there was no lentils in there at all and the tabouli salad was nothing but chopped up parsley no maybe two tomatoes in there and I mean small cut up tomatoes -2. Now Westport does not have a shortage of restaurants, but if you're hankering for some Mediterranean grub then Aladdins may hit the spot. The food itself was decent: my table got the hummus as an appetizer ( super creamy with lots of tahini ). I also got the dill chicken sandwich ( which is comes in a pita). You get one side with your sandwich ( either lentil soup or a side salad). The salad was drowning in dressing (a dill-citrus dressing that was pretty overpowering & bitter in large mouthfuls). They put that same dressing on the sandwich , but thankfully not as much. I would give this eatery more stars since the prices were relatively cheap for the amount of food, EXCEPT we got really poor service. One of my very best friends has moved back to Kansas City after being away for years. We finally had a chance to catch up and chose Aladdin Cafe to do this. We had the Turkish coffee which was magnificent. I had the gyro sandwich with the Greek salad. I've never had a dressing quite like the one they use and have to say that I'm hooked. It's zesty, sweet and savory with just a hint of mint. The gentleman who served us when we first arrived was very attentive and made everything feel extra special. The atmosphere was cozy and casual. We were just leaving KU Med and wanted some good local food. Being Mediterranean food fans we saw this little gem and stopped. We couldn't have been happier! Hit the spot! We decided to sit outside on this nice day for a spontaneous random choice of restaurant. - For appetizers we ordered the Stuff Grape Leaves and Turkish Coffee. The stuffed grape leaves are amazing, it's easy to cut, soft and almost melt in your mouth and the filling was super tasty! The Turkish Coffee with the cardamom flavor is soooooo delicious Im stealing the idea to use in my own coffee at home - The lentil soup and the Greek salad was also very good, lentil soup was not as thick as other places and imo the texture was perfect! The Greek salad had some zang to it - which means I loved it - For entrees we shared, the Seafood Kabob and the Koshary. The shrimp with the Koshary red sauce was a amazing combo! I've never had Egyptian rice before - especially not mixed with lentils and chickpeas which is something I will also be stealing lol. And the salmon was cooked thoroughly well (although I would have cooked it a bit longer it was still good). Such good flavors. Really liked the shrimp and feta app (the veggies take the spices well too!) and the kefta kebab (lamb). Hands down. Best Mediterranean food in Kansas City! My first experience with this cafe was on Postmates. I had no idea where it was located, never seen the restaurant but decided to try it out! The dill chicken sandwich in pita bread was phenomenal. I finally had the opportunity to experience the restaurant with my mom a few months prior and once again this past week. I am certainly glad to have made the decision to order take out one random hungry night that led me to discover this place. Most recently, I ordered the Petra platter which comes with chicken pieces and vegetables on top of hummus. It is served with pita bread, and their dishes include lentil soup or salad. I always opt for the soup which is delicious and is a wonderful blend of Mediterranean flavors. The Petra platter was out of this world from the texture of the chicken to the combination of the hummus and fresh pita! I couldn't stop myself from finishing the entire dish! Went in for dinner and ordered "Zatar" (Lebanese herbs over pita bread) & "Falafel" for appetizers which was both really good , highly recommend it. For main course we ordered the "Shawarma platter" which had real flavorful chicken over grilled veggies and pita bread with a side of cucumber mint yoghurt sauce and "Chicken kabob platter" which had juicy skewered chicken with rice over a tomato sauce, grilled vegetables and a mint cucumber yoghurt sauce by the side.
