As you might think from the name, Firewater is all about the drinks. Not only do they look beautiful but they punch above their weight in a tourist mecca. My Baby Got Daq was so much better than one would imagine for a cocktail on tap. Served in a coupe, this traditional daiquiri was made with anjeo rum, which gave it a gorgeous brown color. The simple (traditional with a twist -- pineapple!) recipe (lime and sugar) allowed all the ingredients to sing and you would be hard-pressed to tell that it came from a tap, rather than a bartender's careful hand. Drink in hand, the food menu acquitted itself just as nicely. My large (Southern) party made short work of the deviled egg appetizer. Likewise, my brisket sandwich (on gluten-free bread and served with a side of grits) was filling, smoky (with a crunchy bark) and deeply-flavorful.My group took advantage of the nice weather and are outside, enjoying the lovely water views and pleasant service. With a population the size of a New England liberal arts college, odds are if you're patronizing Firewater you're not a local. That's fine. Tourist cities need tourist dollars. Spend yours here.
