This Ralphs was my go-to since it was very close to where I live. On multiple occasions, I have seen/heard people complain about the staff here. I cannot say "everyone" is rude but some of the cashiers are very unprofessional. Don't get me started with the manager, ROBERTO A. He is the true definition of unprofessional and obviously doesn't understand the first thing about customer service. There is also another review where ROBERTO A. is the topic and clearly he uses the same hateful tactics often. I visited this Ralph's this week and experienced a very unnecessary confrontation. The cashier Emily and the unprofessional manager, Roberto A. were very rude for no apparent reason. I won't go into detail because it's long but Roberto cancelled our transaction (this is his go-to) after everything was already scanned and we were ready to pay. Also, while we were in line, Emily stated she 'hated her job.' Well, then don't work there! This is why people are rude...they hate their jobs and they let it out on the customers. Very unpleasant situation. I have filed a complaint with corporate. Also, there is an Asian lady who works the self-check out line who is very rude every time I've been there. I never went out of my way to say anything to her but she is also unprofessional and acts like she's doing the customers a favor when they ask for help. High prices, long lines and you bag your own groceries. I'm going to try Amazon Fresh. This is ridiculous.

This is my go to grocery store. I have never encountered any issues with employees or other patrons while shopping here. The employees always make sure everything is clean (before and during the pandemic) as well as always greeting costumers with a smile and a "hello, how are you today!". The sushi is fresh (which is difficult to find at many stores) as well as clean (as I have an allergy to shellfish and have never had a bad reaction to anything!). The employees are constantly restocking shelves and making sure they aren't in your way, which makes it easier to get in and get out quick. I am also always impressed by how quickly the cashiers ring you up and then get you out the door. Great people, clean store, always an awesome experience! read more

I'm pretty new to the area, and since day 1, I've always felt as if there was racial profiling in this Supermarket. I'm not sure how often this Ralph's has to stop thieves at the door, and I've never had to be stopped, but the way I'm followed around the store by security who is attempting to be "lowkey" about it, has always made me uncomfortable. I am an African American male, with a pretty chill and upbeat demeanor when I walk into the Supermarket, and usually leave with saying have a "goodmorning" or a smile to the cashier(s). I've attempted to contact management in regards to my feelings towards his employees and security, and yet to receive a response. I'm pretty sure I am NOT the only man or woman if color who feels this way about the staff at this Supermarket. So just be aware my BROTHAS and SISTAHS when you walk into this Supermarket. This used to be my favorite Ralph's supermarket however ever since they remodeled I'm not sure if they changed management or not but the service has become the worst. There was only 3 registers open today during rush around at 5:00 pm. The lines were so long, I waited 25 minutes to get my groceries. Your store needs to seriously get it together. The only reason I shop here is out sheer convenience because I live down the street. But to be honest, I dread coming here! I want to tell you a secret. Sometimes, I can be an absolute queen b*&@h. I mean like, foaming at the mouth, flames from the eyeballs, monstrous pain in the ass. It doesn't happen very often, so when I do throw a hissy fit, I tend to make it count. I went to this Ralph's today looking for a very specific shopping list of items (Sunflowers, 1 serrano chile, 2 summer squash and a pound of raw shrimp) and at every turn I was extremely disappointed in the selection of items available. It all started with the front door... they've recently remodeled this Ralph's, but they didn't bother to get rid of the nasty A/C thing that hangs over the door and spews hot, smelly air all over you whenever the door opens. I f%cking hate that thing. i headed for the miniscule floral department looking for a bunch of sunflowers like the big gorgeous ones I'd seen the day before at the location on Vineland and Ventura.... instead they had small, brownish sunflowers which were already starting to close up. I asked for help. Actually i pushed a button and then stared down every employee who walked by until the front desk manager realized he had walked past me, and that my eyeballs were boring holes in the back of his head. I waited for about five minutes only to eventually find out that they didn't have any decent looking sunflowers in the store. Mildly annoyed but not ready to fight about it, I wandered to the produce section and started selecting stuff. Nothing was particularly fresh looking, cheap or impressive, so I pulled together what I needed. and moved on to the seafood counter. I was about to ask for a pound of shrimp when I realized that all the shrimp in the case were frozen solid! What I needed to do with that shrimp was take it home, peel it and cook it. I had to be at work in an hour... no time for defrosting, and besides, if I wanted frozen shrimp I'd buy frozen shrimp! So, I lost it. "This is the worst f^cking Ralph's! All I needed was some sunflowers and some shrimp!" etc The employee behind the seafood counter, poor sap, stuck with my crazy ass, just shrugged and said, "I don't know about that, I just transfered in." I dropped my basket and started to leave. The meat manager guy tried to stop me, telling me it would "only" take ten minutes to defrost my shrimp for me. What the f@*king hell do these people think??? that I'm going to stand around their small, smelly Ralph's for ten minutes waiting for food that should take me ten minutes to cook? Here's an idea: have stuff in your store that's ready to sell. Don't try to sell me stuff that's passed it's prime. read more

Ok I shop at "my" Ralphs often..but I don't like seeing employees sitting out front puffing on cancer sticks ...then how many of them wash their hands afterwards befor they handle our food none I see them put out their cigarettes and walk right back into the store and resume work ..smoke away if you wish but do it out back where I don't have to walk past you and your smoke to get into the store..and please wash your hands Besides that The only other complaint I have is their Seafood is sub par. The only reason I come here is because it's right by my boyfriends place. It's not horrible but it is always packed, even after midnight. The lines are typically long and take forever. There's also very nice employees but one Asian employee who is very odd and gives me and my BF dirty looks for no reason. Parking can be a hassle at times and leaving the lot is even harder due to current construction on magnolia. It's okay but not the best. read more

Michael at the deli counter greets customers as they walk in with a smile and has attention to detail and a perky attitude always. Came here tonight to pick up a few things. I go to another ralphs that actually is cleaner. Manager by the name of Rick is a complete jerk. Just read another reviewer complaining about Rick. He is a disgruntled old man who hates his job and life. Period. That's the only reason how he can cope with being an a-hole. To take his anger out on others. Let me preface this by saying that I am not all that impressed with California grocery stores. Maybe that's my east coast transplant-ness, but I really expect more. I am seriously used to all grocery stores being like the fancy Ralph's in Sherman Oaks. The lack of quality grocery stores and prevalence of sub par (and expensive) grocery stores in LA is astounding. This Ralph's is just ok. It's old and smaller than most. The parking lot is always full and people drive like jerks- be careful. The produce section is ok. I've never had a problem with not fresh vegetables. The meat section is sub par, not a great selection at all. It does not smell like fish, so that's a bonus. The cheese And deli sections aren't great, especially the cheese. Not a lot of variety. When it comes to specific things that I need, I usually cannot find them here. Example: the other day I needed fish sauce and couldn't find it. That is something that any international isle should have. Seriously right up there with Sriracha, which I have also had issues finding here. I've never had to wait in line more than 5 minutes, so it is usually easy in, easy out. Employees are all very friendly and helpful. read more

I'm reviewing another Ralph's. Apparently Sherman Oaks is full of them. I saw a Trader Joe's somewhere, and possibly a Whole Foods... but mostly this city just seems to like Ralph's. I don't get it, really, but when in Rome shop as the Romans do. A few things occur to me as I write this. Firstly, there is a particular female cashier here who is consistently very rude. I've witnessed it on multiple occasions, and I'm always left wondering why people think it's okay to behave that way. I wonder that in general, really. I've never thought it was interesting or cool to have a weird misanthropic chip on my shoulder, so I don't understand it when I encounter it with other people. There's nothing wrong with being kind; it's not some debilitating disease that will take your organs from you one by one. It's safe, I promise. Other than that, they appear to have something of a cart wrangling problem here. This is not necessarily the fault of the store itself, as much as it is the fault of weirdly lazy people who can't be bothered to put their cart in the proper cart receptacle.... But I've rarely seen any employees out there trying to deal with the problem. And it is a problem. These metal baskets on wheels sometimes take up parking spaces, and sometimes they hit cars and scratch paint. That doesn't need to happen. The parking lot is not very large, so I can't see how having to walk from any fixed point to another would be that much of a challenge. This might be coming off as mean or angry, but I'm really just genuinely confused. As far as I know, though, there isn't any blood on the bathroom walls here... I frequent this Ralphs often as its very easy to come here after a workout at LA Fitness. Everytime I come it is clean, well stocked, and the most important thing in my book..........The Customer Service is phenomenal. It feels good to have people around if you need to find something and always asking if you need help with anything. Amazing service.....enough said. Christian in the Bakery is so awesome! My girlfriend and I were craving cake so we decided to go to Ralph's and see what they have (we also needed trash bags and Swiffer fluid). As we arrived at the Bakery we looked at many different cakes. We couldn't find one that we were totally in love with. My girlfriend, being the the cake queen she is, couldn't find a cake that she was completely satisfied about. Christian asked us if there was any kind of cake that we wanted and who the cake was for. We responded telling him that it was just for the two of us. Christian then decided he was going to make us our very own special 5 inch cake!! My girlfriend got to decide on what kind of cake she got,what kind of frosting, how many sprinkles etc! It was great. She was so happy. He then finished by asking us for our names and writing them on the cake for us. We were more than pleased. This was customer service at its finest. Thank you again Christian. Wasn't really impressed at all by this Ralphs. I went in fairly late on a sat just to pick up a few things after the move and it wasn't really busy. You'd think that would be a good thing right? No... not so good. Only one open lane with a person cashing people out and that was backed up. I opted for the self service aisle. Big big mistake. You'd think that with 2 employees manning the self service aisle, they might actually help you check out since those machines pretty much suck. No. They stood around just talking even after I asked them for help 3 times(stupid machine can't tell when I've bagged a 2 liter bottle of diet coke). Never again. I did find it amusing that they employ a security guard complete with chair to watch the liquor. Never seen that before... not that she wasn't just talking to another employee or anything. read more

This Ralphs is extremely disappointing. Not just because it's small and doesn't have many items it's because the items are bad. Their frozen section, 30% of their freezers had freezer burn and massive ice hanging off of the food. It was like a snow storm came in and fell into the freezers. It was just awful. And their prices on certain items were much higher than other Ralph's. The shelves were poorly stocked also. I definitely will not be going back to that Ralphs anytime soon. I understand that it's very difficult and scary to work during COVID so I am not taking what the manager and cashier did personally. I ordered online for pick up as i'm high risk and tried paying with an Egift card as I have with other Ralph's stores but they made me go inside since it couldn't be figured out outside. Inside I met with the manager and cashier who were confused about how to use the eGift card. I told them that it works and the numbers could be typed in but they refused to do that and were incredibly rude for no reason despite me being as civil as possible. They told me that the card had to be verified even though it was verified by Kroger and had been used before . I left the store hungry, without food for the week, and possibly exposed to COViD. Not shopping here again, no need for stress & rude customer service when you're being nice to them !!!!!!!! read more

This is my local Ralph's, it is so close I walk there if I don't have anything heavy to buy. I wad excited when they remodeled but it was not more than changing the floor and moving around some items. I have noticed lately that the quality of the food is iffy. I was looking to buy some Swiss cheese and the deli counter was super busy so I went to the refrigerated section next to where they sell coffee. I thru a pack of sliced cheese in my cart and did a double take. The cheese was moldy. Eeeww. It was still before the best buy date. I have also noticed that sometimes they are selling food past the best by date or the best by date is a day or two away. I am thinking they must not have a good turn around or no one is checking the shelves. Better off going to the Ralph's on Burbank and Van Nuy's - they have more things and the service is better. read more

While this isn't the Ralphs I do most of my shopping, I do stop in regularly enough to experience how the check-out system is consistently not favorable to the shopper. Their lack of employees at check-out makes for long lines, all while the self check-out cashier is bopping around trying to find customers who want to use the self-service area. True to the usual, the lines were long (Thursday, approx. 11:30 am). There were 2 check-out stations open along with self check-out. I was behind several customers, and directly in front of me was a cart filled with groceries. I patiently waited in line. When it was my turn to move up, I let the gentleman behind me (with only 3 items) go ahead of me. When he walked up to cashier, another customer from the other open register was VERY loud about him moving ahead. I replied that I let him go ahead of me. Well, this very LOUD customer was now LOUDER with me say that I was not following the rules by cutting in line. He said that there was only one line (down the frozen aisle) & that this line filtered into both cashiers. While not a soul in the store said a word, the line had about 6 or 7 customers who seemed to think this was the case. In all my years, I had never known there to only be 1 line, but in order to NOT cause a big stink, I went to the back of the line to wait... All the while this obnoxious customer continued to say how "uncool it was for me to cut the line" and more. We had a few comments back and forth, with me responding that I was unaware that this new system was in place. When I finally got to the cashier and briefly shared this (though I wonder how he nor any other employee did not hear/notice) he confirmed that a single line was NOT how the check-out procedure worked; he (Robert) also apologized about the situation. I was so upset that this LOUD customer seemed to take over this moment & no one from the store stepped in to make things right. As I was leaving, several employees & a woman now at the front of the store (presumably the manager) were in a tizzy because a customer who had a cart load of groceries walked out of the store without waiting in line & without paying! When I got home & looked over my receipt, I saw that of the 5 plants I purchased, I was charged for 7... I am truly disappointed in Ralphs, & I'm going to do my best to never shop at this store! read more

This was my neighborhood Ralph's for the three years I lived in the area and oh do I miss it. It's funny how some Ralphs are so much better than others. The store is the perfect size, not too big, not too small; easy to find things. The deli makes the huge 12 in. sandwiches for 6.99. (Other Ralphs sell 6" for the same price). Always clean. I think it has the best product selection overall. It carries the 9th continent chocolate soy milk that I can't seem to find anywhere else. The employee is always nice and the manager is proactive. I have been shopping here for years and find this particular grocery store to be more than adequate for my needs both in food staples and service. My interactions with the employee here have always been pleasant and I have found this particular Ralphs to be clean and in good order. It has a a large parking lot and is located conveniently across the street from a Walgreens pharmacy along with a dry cleaning establishment that is next door. While not one of the more super sized, fancy flagship stores, I am more than satisfied with this particular Ralphs and will continue to shop here. read more

I went to this location more for convience. It is further away from me but at 11 at night, I figured it should be a easy in and out trip. There was a empty parking lot, no lines and the store is small so therefor a smaller square footage meaning less walking. Well as always and everytime. SECURITY...the minute I walk in until i reach the register. He is on my neck. Literally next to me. At this point im very uncomfortable because its unessesary. Im paying for my food. $100 bill in my hand. NOPE. I bit my tongue from wanting to tell the cashier" hey can you ask him to move, hes making feel uncomfortable" but for what. Its what I go through because im black. I know its ignorance but it gets old. The Ralph's supermarket at Magnolia and Coldwater could be, I repeat COULD BE, a really good Ralph's. It seems that there are a few too many "been there done that" employees who get very put out when anything out of the ordinary happens and they have to exert themselves just a little bit. On more than one occasion in the morning when making a purchase and the choice comes up to withdraw money there has been much attitude about getting cash because they are low in the mornings. They are VERY disgruntled that they might have to get more cash. Boo hoo. This is not the only issue. Generally speaking this store needs a CUSTOMER SERVICE LESSON. read more
