Over the years I have become more and more dissatisfied with this store. Their shelf space is limited because it's a 50+ year old store and most of their stock items are Kroger. The back aisle, which has the milk and dairy, is so cluttered with excess displays and assorted merchandise that you can hardly get to the milk. The rest of the store is cluttered with cardboard display items that crowd the aisles. Today I stopped in for a gallon of milk. While I was at the Express check out the clerk left and said she'd be right back. While she was only gone for 2-3 minutes me and two other customers had a problem with our check outs. When I called out for assistance she came back and said," I told you I'd be right back. Do you want to check on my kids?" I replied,"No... I just want to shop at your store. The store that gives you a paycheck. There's no need to be snooty to me." That rude encounter was the last straw. I'll drive to the Ralph's on Hazeltine and Ventura from now on. read more

I went to this Ralph's today 11/9/24 @ about 2pm and for the most part found the three items I needed pretty quickly. However when I went to self-check out, the attendant came directly next to me, facing me as I checked out. I did not look at her just continued to look at the screen. She did not ask me if I needed help or a bag just proceeded to stand directly next to me, staring at me as I checked out my three items. I'm assuming she was intently watching me because I am African American and was trying to make sure I wasn't going to steal?? I don't know, I've never stolen anything a day in my life and felt VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. Totally understand that this is part of the job as an attendant at self-check out but if you're going to invade someone's space, at least PRETEND like you're trying to assist them and not trying to intimidate them?? This is not going to make me not shop at this location. I do have some concern about the quality of the seafood because I am finding that the fish in freshness and taste have not been the best. I will not purchase anymore fish from this market because even the fish in the case doesn't take long before it becomes the same as this. The cashier screwed up the transaction of the lady in front of me and didn't know how to fix it, so he called a manager over. She came over and couldn't seem to fix it, either. After waiting there for 10 minutes and Ms. Manager seeming lost, I ask how long she thought it would be. She nastily told me to go to another line, that she was now going to shut down that register. The other cashiers had long lines with lots of stuff in each cart. Ms. Manager did not offer to put me at the front of any other line or help me in any way. She basically gave me the message of "Get lost." So I left and went to the competition where I spent almost $200. Store was empty less customers and i was in the middle of the store were doing my groceries shopping and security guy came and told me you entered with a wrong side with the Aggressive way and he told me to leave the store right now and back from the other doors. Say what you want about this Ralphs, all Ralphs, or grocery stores in general, there are some really kind people working here who are truly looking out for the customer, beyond what is expected of them. (Side note: it appears that all grocery stores seem to have a less-than-desirable Yelp rating, which is clearly due to a phenomenon called volunteer bias [google it], so take the star rating with a grain of salt... if you want a good idea of the service at a grocery store, read the customer anecdotes.. like this one!) Anywho, I digress... This review is being written specifically to address the exemplary customer service I received on 04/22/2020 @ 9:50PM (approx 10 minutes until closing). Now I won't go into detail about service I received because what the employee (Tim) did was SOOO incredibly nice and went so far beyond the average customer service one receives at places like Vons or Walmart that I would hate to put Tim or any of the other Ralph's employees in a position where customers are coming up to them and asking for handouts or free stuff or something like that. My situation was very unique and thus called for a unique brand of customer service which Tim provided without even thinking twice, which is proof that Tim was not doing it for any praise or reward or quid pro quo style return gesture. He simply did it because he's fucking amazing at his job and should be running that place. So for any corporate eyes reading this, check it: Y'all wanna improve your Yelp score? Put Tim in charge. Y'all wanna increase the number of customers you get on a given day? Put Tim in charge. Y'all want customer leaving with a smile on their faces. P.T.I.C (Put Tim in charge). Y'all wanna make more money and be successful and have piles of money because your store is doing so well? Yep... you guessed it... Put Tim in charge. Parking lot was not full during the early afternoon, with about three/ four registers open, full lines in each. Do not try to take beer through the self checkout, the chatty attendant will tell you 'not in my store' then make you stand in those full lines while self checkout remained practically empty, so why can't you check ID's at self checkout-? Very tired of seeing employees WEARING APRONS, sitting, smoking, and staring at costumers going through the front. We were waiting in the bagging area for all my group to get through the long, zig zagging, every man for themselves spots in line, when a dark-headed male employee loudly swaggered in the front from his break; his hands and breath reeking of smoke, Boxers hanging out above sagging, dragging work pants. Didn't wash his hands, no gum no mint, doesn't care. Do better Ralph's. Y'all got a remodel, leaders could set a better example of integrity. Employees could take more initiative. read more

I am so disappointed in this Ralph's location. I have been shopping at Ralph's for over 10 years and this location is just getting worse. They usually have one checkout line open and force you to use the self check. I was at the self check and asked the attendant where the bags were located and she just threw them into my card. I wanted to leave my groceries in the basket and walk away, but I just stood in the one attendant line (I was probably the 5th person). It's sad to see that the customer service element is gone and we are all moving to machines instead of human interaction. read more

These 5 stars are for the deli employee Michael. This gentleman is such a delight. I go into this market roughly once a week, and on occasion Michael is there and has helped me, every time lovely. I went this week, which has been stressful with protesting and curfews, and the positivity and energy this man brought was extremely wonderful. Not only was he so attentive but encouraging to his coworkers. He even packed the sliced meats and cheese with such care and smoothed all the air out. Stopped by this location to grab a few things for dinner. Ended up leaving with out anything. This location is horrible. Customer service is nonexistent and what they call security guards are worthless! The company needs to come to this location and fire even and get new people that actually want to do the job they are hired for and care about customers. It's a shop closed to home, but now they only have 2 cashiers working and lines are going back to mid isles... wait is 10/15 min to get checked out. In many instances , cashiers are not bagging groceries, just waiting for the customer to do it themselves. Service level is gone down a lot. This Ralphs is the nearest location to me. If I have time to spare, I go to another location, and more and more frequently, other supermarkets. But often I don't have time to spare and need to go here. This location is always short of checkers. Even during busy periods, they frequently have only one checkout line going. So if you don't want to wait an hour to be checked out by a human, you have to use their infuriating self-checkout machines, which I resent, because I'm not on Ralphs' payroll. These crap machines mess up. A lot. And there's also a long line of customers waiting to use them. So skip this location. read more

Kroger seems to be replacing almost every name brand with their own products, which I find "controlling". I shopped in this store this morning. They were out of SEVERAL advertised items. I asked if they were in back but there were none, according to Leila, who told me she was the Sales Manager. I then said I will need rainchecks. After completing my shopping, I checked out in Aisle 3 ( she told me that I could not do self check out if I wanted rainchecks). As my groceries were being bagged, Leila approached me to tell me the sale was through Tuesday and that I could come back for the items they did not have. She clearly did not want to write rainchecks.....perhaps she or the store get "docked" when they do not have advertised items in stock?? Finally got her to write them. Some of the items were 6-packs and I asked her please to write that on the raincheck. She refused ( why, I have no clue!!), and I told her I just wanted to make sure that when I came back, they did not think it was for the single bottles. She asked if I saw the single bottles on the shelves and I said I did not know but assumed they had them. She then took me over and we found the single bottles. She took one out and showed me it was a different size. I asked her why she didn't just tell me that instead of having me walk with her to another section of the store. And then, I just could not figure out why she was handling this so poorly and I asked Leila "why would it have been so difficult to just write 6-pack on the raincheck?" She mumbled something about they do not do it that way....seriously??? HORRIBLE customer service from Leila!!! Tried to blow up some balloons from this Ralph's. And the florist refused to blow up the balloons because they were not in original packaging??? And says she has "high risk" children at home. I understand she is looking out for her kids m, but Doesn't offer to have someone else to help me, doesn't offer to wear gloves. NOTHING. Just "sorry". Horrible service and ridiculous. I was hoping this could be my alternative place to "ghetto ralph's" on sherman way but I prefer that one to this one. This is an ethnic neighborhood and whatever that is fine but the problem is the congestion in the store. too crowded and never enough checkers and you end up standing in line forever. it's also hard to find parking. The inventory is not as good nor are the deal/prices as compared to the Sherman Way location. I'm not gonna bother going back here anymore. read more

Yikes to this Ralph's! The ONLY reason why I go to this Ralph's is if I absolutely have a last minute shopping need. I cannot stand that they allow people to sit out in the lot asking people to make donations. The cashiers are mediocre when it comes to customer service. There's nothing more annoying than listening to a bagger and a cashier discussing what they did the night before and how they have been sick and etc totally disregarding that there is a paying customer right in front of them. As far as items, they pretty much have a good selection as any typical Ralph's. The produce is hit or miss here. I have had both good and bad experiences with the tomatoes and lettuce here. Reason I'm giving this a one star is because of the terrible customer service they provide, especially the older Asian lady who works at the register. She seems unhappy, rude and disinterested in doing her job with an ounce of dignity. This location is smaller than other Ralphs in the area, but the upkeep is fantastic. It looks immaculate. Something I can't say for any other Ralphs I've been in that isn't brand new. However, the biggest issue is the parking lot. It's tiny. If it's busy, expect to circle around several times trying to find a spot...or just go to a different supermarket. Went into the store today around 5 pm. Not a lot of people but most of the good stuff was gone. At the register, cashier wanted my ID cx l purchased alcohol. I look & am 40 but she wanted my LD. l told her it's in my car so she said "can't sell it to you.", Really? Lol! So l left to get my DL. Come back, she had all my stuff in the bags & told me the amount without me realizing it she never asked if l had a Ralph's discount card. I paid, looked at the receipt then l told her "wait l don't have any discounts, I shop here every week & live next door." She said "oh, let me give you the discounts now." what? Really? So I could of paid FULL PRICE, if I didn't say anything. Wow, this place... Where do I begin? There's been at least 3 times where I've talked to staff for assistance and they've had horribly bad breath. I had an issue with the lady in the meat department before. Issues with waiting a long time at the front desk for customer assistance (oh, and their bell that you ring for assistance has been forever sitting there broken) before anyone ever came to help me. Then today... All I wanted to do was call and ask if they sold flower vases. It took a while for someone in the floral department to pick up and when I asked her she said in a very thick accent, "Yes, you want flowers?" I said no VASES. She then puts me on hold to find out (mind you this is the floral lady I am talking to then she gets on the phone and says, "No, we no have." I then ask to speak to a manager and after about 19 minutes of waiting (with people picking up along the way asking what I wanted) a manger picked up the phone and said yes, that they so have flower vases. I told her they needed to hire staff that can speak English and that a 19 minute wait on hold was not acceptable. I've had issues with this place and today after this nonsense I decided to finally wrote my review on them. Terrible customer service! Ps. I used to shop here years ago when I lived closer, but Ive been very unhappy with my choices for supermarket shopping for a while. I recently came back to shop here even though it was a longer drive and out of my way, I was very happy with the store, the employees and the product selection. I know many people come to Yelp to complain, and not often enough do people come to Yelp to Praise. I think Im going to start shopping here again after being away for more than a decade. I shopped at this Ralph's market this afternoon, as I do once in a while. It is not the closest Ralph's for me, nor is it the Ralph's with the best selection, but it is not huge, the parking lot is usually not overflowing, and there is an absence of people begging, or people pushing you to donate to various worthy causes, or people pleading with you to sign petitions. I prefer to shop without having to deal with other issues in the parking lot. This is a smaller size Ralph's, resulting in a more limited selection of products. So this is not the go to place for specialty cheeses, or exotic fruits, or a big selection of baked goods, or a variety of kinds of smoked fish. On the other hand, if you are getting milk, ice cream, eggs, laundry detergent, frozen broccoli, middle of the road kinds of products, this market works just fine. It can even be a plus, for there is less opportunity to be tempted to buy something that catches your eye, but that is not on your grocery list. The grocery clerks here are reasonable people by and large. They are not super attentive, but they match the overall shopping experience. read more

Between 12am and 2am, be prepared to wait in line for 15 minutes at the only open register while your ice cream melts! I don't understand why they don't have the self checkouts open! This is the closest Ralph's to where I live, and I like grocery shopping at night because there are usually fewer customers, but I don't recommend shopping here late night because they always only have one register open, and it's just not worth it. read more

This Ralphs was my go-to since it was very close to where I live. On multiple occasions, I have seen/heard people complain about the staff here. I cannot say "everyone" is rude but some of the cashiers are very unprofessional. Don't get me started with the manager, ROBERTO A. He is the true definition of unprofessional and obviously doesn't understand the first thing about customer service. There is also another review where ROBERTO A. is the topic and clearly he uses the same hateful tactics often. I visited this Ralph's this week and experienced a very unnecessary confrontation. The cashier Emily and the unprofessional manager, Roberto A. were very rude for no apparent reason. I won't go into detail because it's long but Roberto cancelled our transaction (this is his go-to) after everything was already scanned and we were ready to pay. Also, while we were in line, Emily stated she 'hated her job.' Well, then don't work there! This is why people are rude...they hate their jobs and they let it out on the customers. Very unpleasant situation. I have filed a complaint with corporate. Also, there is an Asian lady who works the self-check out line who is very rude every time I've been there. I never went out of my way to say anything to her but she is also unprofessional and acts like she's doing the customers a favor when they ask for help.
