We lived next door to this Ralph's for four years. For every dollar we spent at this store, we spent 4-5 at Whole Foods or Traders. There is nothing about this place that feels like a neighborhood store, a place that puts customers first, or even cares that much about health. During the pandemic, they were dead last in cleaning protocols. We have bought proteins way past their sell by date. Two weeks ago, a friend of mine and I walked in and about half-a-dozen people wearing grey and blue suits. They were standing with their backs to the entry way, essentially blocking us. My friend asked, "Excuse me." No one looked up (twice). I had encountered them before. After asking the second time, I said, "They are Ralph's executives, probably Yucaipa Company. They set the cynical practices towards customers." Then, someone looked up. Fortunately, we moved about two miles away. Now, for every $5 we spend at other stores, Ralphs gets a buck. The same cynicism is in every aspect at Ralph's. In the age of inflation, study their price strategies. They call 20 cent discounts a sale. They jack up prices on less commonly bought products sky high. Maybe its just me, but over the course of five years, I have never felt better walking out then when I walked in. read more

The fried chicken strips and wings are tasty and the fried potato wedges are okay if you crave fries but a bit oily and an old oil taste at times. Long time ago I was on lunch break from lab. I was waiting at deli counter but didn't know they had a ticket system which was strictly enforced. Young white woman come by after me and gets served when I was waiting longer than her. Deli counter chose to serve her over me because she got the ticket. She likely was a nearby resident who knew the system while I didn't. Deli attendant did not have to serve her and she could have let me go first since I was waiting. Not my usual grocery store but stopped here on my way somewhere. Usually grocery stores are just in and out, but this employee by the name of Miyoshi ended up checking us out. She was so friendly and accommodating and she had that hustle. We were vibing with her so hard that I left a grocery and she ran out to the parking lot to give it to us. This my Neighborhood Ralphs and I've never had a bad experience until today, I had the worse costumer service, the assistant at the self check out was so rude, all the registers where closed so he called us over to the self check out, even though it was self check out he rang my items, tossing everything in my cart back very rudely and aggressively, We asked him for bags and he threw them at the cart dropping one on the floor, I had two gift cards to process, he ripped the back one off so bad I was almost embarrassed to gift it. He was extra aggressive and seriously acted like a bouncer at a club, he should not be in customer service, I wish I looked as his name tag but you can avoid him by looking at the way he stands and carries himself like he wants to beat someone up. read more

Been there about 20 times since last review. They do of course get lots of mean vagrants in there, which probably accounts for the change of attitude of some workers. This Ralph's used to be better. Though I have shopped here regularly, always paid and never had an issue, I recently was accused of stealing. This was right after I had paid at the cash register, as my receipt and two small purchases were very visibly in the transparent bag I held hanging from my hands. I agreeably showed my receipt, time stamped about 30 seconds before, and two small items and indicated the cash register and cashier that had just rung me up. After a few weeks, once I walked down an aisle to see the same manager at his desk at the front of the store staring at me and loudly calling out to me across the store asking, "You're not buying chips?" I have almost never bought chips in years. About half a year before, I had bought dried fruit similar to chips. Then, I had similar approaches today too. Also, the store has a defectively packaged and labeled item. They tried to force me to buy and keep it, even as I notice as I am at the cash register. Without saying a word, the cashier took off and left me standing at the register. As I asked the manager how come, he said the large, clear 64 ounce bottle had no price to scan so the cashier brought an identical item that was not defective to scan it. That was when I noticed this bottle had no label. I had hurriedly grabbed a bottle on the bottom shelf over the correct price label on the shelf, after the kind I had intended to buy and seen next to it yesterday was sold out today. I asked to keep the identical item that was not defective instead. The cashier and manager both refused. Instead, they walked all the way back to the shelf to take back the identical item that was not defective and told me to keep the clear bottle with no label. I asked again and said that as the year progresses I am not going to remember what is in this clear 64 ounce bottle and that I had not seen initially it had no label. The cashier told me to keep looking at the receipt for the year it would take me to go through this 64 ounce bottle of vinegar. I said I do not intend to keep this receipt for the time it takes to use up this 64 ounce bottle of vinegar. The manager then refused again. He told me to write with a marker on the bottle to make up for its defective packaging and lack entirely of a label. Even though there was more than one identical item on the shelf that was not defective, he again refused to let me exchange the defectively packaged item that they had already tried to force me to buy and keep. This is the same manager that accused me a few weeks ago of stealing for no reason and asked, "You're not buying chips?" after I walked down an aisle from which I did not hold any item I was about to buy. It is not on the customer to buy and keep their defectively packaged and labeled product, especially since, if they initially refuse, as the manager did, I stated I can return or exchange it there, or at another Ralph's. This is very obvious. Only then did the manager allow me to switch it for the not defective, identical item. Meanwhile, the cashier kept calling across the store for me to keep staring at my receipt for the next year to keep the defective, entirely unlabeled bottle. This Ralphs seems to think customer service is defined as customers serve the store and the salaried employees. I suppose I will go to another Ralphs or another store entirely. The young, slender tall manager and one of the cashiers at the self-checkout is helpful. If I could, I would give a second half or three quarters of a star for them. read more

There is no one to check anyone out in the morning in the regular checkout lanes. In the middle of a global pandemic they are shuffling customers into the self checkout lanes to ring themselves up. There is no opportunity for sanitation in between. There are crowds of customers so it's not that there arent enough people to justify lanes being open. As well, there are too many workers almost in the deli and around the store so it cannot be a staffing issue. This is egregious & frankly DANGEROUS with a respiratory illness going around. There we're elderly people who have never used self checkout standing there wondering what to do. This needs to be remedied. read more

The two stars are not for people that are cashiers, although there are couple that deserve that or below, though for the 95% of the workers are amazing, friendly, top notch customer service associates, from cashiers all the way down to help for everything. Truly lovely persons. The two stars are for the management. I don't treacle know what we're they thinking about putting only two cashiers on in the middle of the lunch hour, while the manager is even late for her shift. The self check out stations are open, but they can not process alcohol (seriously, who's brilliant idea was that?), as well as they don't have money to make the change or give you quarters. If you come in to buy a bottle of wine for a friend that you are on a way to visit, you have to wait for 20 minutes in a long line with 4 130% filled up shopping cars, or an elderly paying by the check and trying to figure out the coupons for 20 minutes alone. And the two self check out stations there are two cashiers, one on each side, and with zero up to three customers max, there is nothing that they can do. Just to say, you are just going to have to wait in the line. And no, I will not sneak you in between the customers, you are just going to have to wait. Another bothersome thing (again, someone's brilliant idea worth a Noble prize for inefficiency and patchy customer service) is the schedules. You get used to going to shop at certain hour because you the staff and get to know them, next week they are not there anymore, because some genius had switch their shifts. Morning and than night, then afternoon,,, you never can predict. And I feel bad for people workers, working till close one day and as soon as the 8 hours pass. They can come home from work an hour after work when living further and than they have to wake up not 8 hours later, but to relax and then wake up 4 hours later to get ready and hit the road. Do you really think that law was intended to work like??? So, to finish up my ramble, maybe an advice to the senior management: Did you forget how it was when you were in that position? Do you get bothered with bad customer service at other places that you visit, because management thought it will make the customer service better? Do you ever listen to the opinions of your workers who deal with customers directly? Are you sure you like your job??? read more

Just now in Ralphs, I saw instacart shoppers without gloves or masks, touching multiple items and putting them back. I saw an old man OPEN A BAG OF BREAD TO SMELL IT. and then put it back. I saw one of the hot food prep ladies YELLING across the room while leaning over open food without a mask. And now that they have people lining up in the isles for the registers, you can frequently watch people leaning on potato chips, and you basically can't go down the isle wihtout rubbing shoulders with them. They put moldy, returned produce back for other customers to buy! I returned some blueberries today because I found mold when I started to wash some the other day. I then went to the produce area to shop. The cashier took the berries to a produce man told him to put them back out for sale, pointing to the cooler! And he did. I went over to him and said I just returned them - they couldn't be put out for sale. He BS'd me, telling me he was the "produce manager" and "the other guy" was going to go through all the berries and check them. I told him I didn't even buy them today, and they'd been in my car, my house, my refrigerator! He disappeared. Then the other guy went over and started lookIng through the smaller packages of berries, not even the right ones. I explained the situation to him. I called for the store manager to come over, and told him about it. He talked to the cashier. He came back, and said she said she didn't tell the produce man to put them back. Well, why was she pointing across the room to the cooler then? If the "produce manager" had good intentions, he would have immediately retrieved the package and discarded it. I have been told to avoid any contact but this place is so greedy they brush aside people like me with no concern for our limitations. I can not get food delivered for me without hiking up the fees with hefty delivery charges and required tips. On a fixed income this is not good. One can pick it up however not until Tuesday because they don't have any medical priorities in place to assist people in serious life-threatening situations. People will spread this disease and others in my condition will die because of these attitudes. This is a nice Ralphs, lots of good parking-free. It's well lit. It's very close to the train. We had to get a few groceries before heading home. It was easy spot to park and just run in for some items. They have a Starbucks too if you are wanting a quick pick-me-up. The register line goes fast. There's not too much more to say. The management here is terrible. Marlon is extremely unprofessional and rude. The store is overpriced and the environment is clearly not controlled. Children are allowed to make as much noise as they want but no one who works there can ask either the children or their parents to be quiet because as several Ralphs staff told me, "Ralph's does not tell customers how to parent their children". The staff does let these kids run the show however. Shameful. Several customers were clearly bothered by three children who were yelling and making a racket and neither Marlon or anyone else stepped up to ask the people to have their children be quieter. Apparently it doesn't matter to management that shoppers (their customers) are disturbed by such rude behavior. Clearly, the parents of these children do not know how to set limits with their children and Ralph's staff went so far as to tell me "children are children". What is that? So many people are afraid of their children, afraid of disciplining them. It's shameful. In this society, people don't set limits with their children and it's frightening. read more

I really don't appreciate the security guard telling my boyfriend he might have stole something out of the grocery store. We don't need to steal anything EVER! Just because he's black does not mean he steals. All races steal but single him out because he left from the register with bags and came up to me to ask for my keys so he can put his stuff in my car and then come back inside and help me with my stuff.
