A well stocked main-stream supermarket in a neighborhood filled with high-end speciality food retailers. There is ample parking and it really is the only place around where you can buy supermarket basics at reasonable prices. From the security guard to cashiers, the entire team is really unfriendly. It seems as if they are all overworked and exhausted. When an entire store is like this, one has to consider that the problem is very likely to be a result of poor corporate policy and store management. Been coming to this Vons for over 10 years.. But the service at this Vons is terrible. The only place I need assistance in a grocery store is the deli..and this is the worst deli I ever had to visit. 1- After 7pm, the deli is closed.. 2-regulary sell-out of meals on special by 5pm; instead of preparing more meals to be available. 3-the workers are usually MIA in the deli and you have to wait 5-10 minutes for someone to just show up. 4-will serve you an old batch of Chicken instead of the fresh batch.. 5-wokers always have a frown when you ask for assistance. Decided to pick up some groceries after work today, and I kept running into this guy in the store who brought his dog in with him. It clearly wasn't a service dog because it was licking everything that was at eye level, from the rotisserie chickens to the raw meat, and this guy didn't care at all. UGH. I hate this place and now that Rite Aid next door is closing it won't be "closest in the area" for something. I literally would only go in if I was next door and needed a quick pick up for something. Well, every single time I would try to get something at the deli counter they were rude and I walked away. As it has been for years, this store is like the adopted child of the company. All the healthy food is being taken away - literally 20+ kinds of eggos but no gluten free option (or 1). And now prices are going up and I buy yasso Greek yogurt frozen bars, get home (2 blocks away) to find out they had melted and been refrozen. Lean cuisine pizza the same. Seriously!!! Do I love coming here? No. Will I keep going here because it's walking distance? Yes. It's a grocery store. Nothing crazy or revolutionary happening here. If you are walking here, note that the entrance is NOT off Wilshire, it's around the back. If you don't love walking through alleyways, be sure you turn off on Euclid and walk through the parking lot. I didn't really have any issues with the store. Selection of produce, etc is ok. Bakery leaves something to be desired. Alcohol selection (which maybe is the most important for this location) is solid. Overall the store was clean but in a run down sort of way. BEWARE THEY DYE AND SELL SPOILED MEAT!! I bought a pack of ground beef from Vons through Instacart just two days ago, kept it in my fridge immediately after delivery, and when I went to portion it out, it was completely gray and smelled slightly sour-like spoiled dairy. Clearly, the meat had already gone bad when it was sold to me. What's frustrating is that it looked fine on the outside when I first received it, which leads me to believe it had coloring added to make it appear fresh. I've worked with ground beef enough to know what it should look and smell like. This wasn't a case of it going bad in my fridge-it was already bad when it arrived. Really disappointed. Selling meat that's clearly past its prime is unacceptable, especially for a major grocery chain. I won't be buying meat from this location again. read more

Flower department needs work. Some of the prices are not displayed, and even after asking an employee how much a bouquet was, she had to run a price check at the register. Are we incapable of displaying prices next to the flowers so a customer doesn't need to ask about the price of every other flower bouquet on display? Furthermore, they wouldn't accept cash in the flower department, so I had to go inside and wait in line. Very disappointing. I visited this location last weekend and asked an African American employee female with large eye lids aged (18 +) on duty near the freezer section (6am-7am) for the woman's restroom code. To my unpleasant experience I was greeted with judgement when confirming the number for the stall. I asked the representative did she know the restroom code and she responded with, "1-6". I followed up with a question of confirmation repeating the numbers for accuracy and she responded with, " You have to remember those numbers?" Sarcastically stated. I ignored the comment and proceeded to confirm that there is no symbol following the digits, which is common in these instances. I felt very uncomfortable and judged. They never have the items that are the best deal through the app. Instead they have similar items or the same item just in a different quantity/weight for a considerably worse price. The butcher department in particular is a disgrace. Never have the good deals that are advertised. The things butchered in store look like they were done with a butter knife. Half the beef in each of the packages is greying and the chicken looks like someone took a hammer to it. Customer service is atrocious. It's like every employee is trying to out do each other with incompetence and apathy. I worked in a grocery store as my very first job so I get it. Pay is low, hours suck, customers can be awful. That is not the issue here. Many of these employees just genuinely suck and don't seem to care or have standards. I live a block away and after a year of issues I have given up. Will be shopping elsewhere for anything besides the occasional alcohol deal or some prepackaged fruit. *Last experience (this is typical of the service): I asked an employee in the butcher department about a specific deal they had. He said "we don't carry that size here because it's too big and would go to waste." It's 3.5lbs of meat for context. I asked him to check just in case and he disappeared for 5-10 minutes while I waited. His coworker came out twice clearly just checking for his buddy if I had left. Second time he asks if I have been helped I tell him yes but ask the same question. He says "oh yea that sells out immediately because it's such a good deal." So which is it do you not carry that size or do you sell out immediately? When I ask this he just laughs as I'm walking off. Finally after not getting the main thing I came in for I check out. I ask to speak to a manager and the bag girl (who had to be told not to cross contaminate my meat by bagging the raw chicken and beef together) just shrugs at me, so I ask again. She says "they are in their office." So I ask "well can you get them?". She says "they are busy." At this point I say "I will just wait here then." Luckily the manager walked up without being called and I spoke to them. The manager did seem to care and honestly I feel bad for her. Wanted to update my previous review and raise my rating to them since they are practicing all the Covid -19 regulations very well. All employees are wearing masks, carts and shopping baskets are getting clean and sanitize. The lines are moving much quicker now. You have to wait for the cashier to call you, and sometimes there is a person who is managing the line. All the employees here are nice except for the one guy who is working in the meat counter. I asked him for one pound of salmon fish, he refused to give me any service, saying that I can get it pre-packed from the open air refrigeration (those units lacking doors). Same thing happened to my husband with the same employee. He refused to do his job and cut some fish for us. read more

Wow. I'm new to the neighborhood and thought I'd give Von's a try because of the great coupons they send for new residents. It wasn't worth it. Every employee in this store could care less that they're there. From the huffs and puffs I received in the aisle from an antsy personal/drive up & go shopper, to the guy stocking the chicken and the guy stocking chips complaining that they "don't get paid enough to care" that someone spilled milk all over the chip shelf and just continued stocking on top of it, to the cashier who made it clear it was beneath her to be friendly or even acknowledge my existence shy of scanning my items. I won't be returning as it's evident that customers are problematic and an absolute nuisance here. The store manager has a lot of work ahead of them. I will say, I'm okay with the one star because at least the guys in Starbucks were great. Find more people like them. read more

I arrived around 7:30 pm and it was relatively quiet. This Vons is not too big or small, I think the size is just right for a small family or singles. Maybe because it is late, some of the veggies are not refilled yet. I guess I have to come earlier next time. Some of the bagged potatoes already have sprouts and I think it starts to be poisonous. It seems no one is checking and I got something else instead. I also did not find yoghurt starter here. I have searched many places and it seems so hard to find. However, yeast os on sale and I got some to play with it. I also got bean sprout here. Not from Ralph's or other places. They do have this. Steak is on sale for $6.99 per lb, which ks better than CostCo. I got some for myself and my boy. When they are on sale, it is a good deal here and you don't have to buy in bulk. Ryan is helpful at cashier check out. But the cart has alarm that triggers the system when you walk out. I don't know the design and why, but the young boy says each time they have to manually disable the system to let people walk out with cart. Because people steal carts, he says. But all carts are in the parking lot and we have to bring it in. When we walk out, we have to wait? Kinda funny. And the carts are kinda of far from entrance as well. The parking lot sign is not too clear also. People may take wrong way to enter or exit at night when it is dark. But overall, they have abundant selections and people are doing their jobs well. read more

Store managers and associates are incredibly unhelpful (aside from the passionate Produce guy, kind Deli lady who works wings station in the evenings, and young guy sometimes at self-checkout area). Everyone else acts like it's their job to be rude to customers and avoid helping us with lazy excuses. Products always out of stock despite showing in-stock in the app. They never bother updating their inventory, and claim they have no way of checking it in their system. Do better Vons Wilshire. I could see one of the staff and manager in the back peeking out at me waiting. They never came out and I ran out of time and had to leave. So unprofessional. This Vons is a disgrace. - At least 10-20% of their produce is rotten or near rotten. - Their ice cream freezer is consistently broken yet they continue to knowingly sell expired ice cream that has repeatedly caused food poisoning. - Their security is unresponsive to naked homeless people INSIDE the store. - Their security is unresponsive to panhandlers, and buskers 20 feet from the front doors who have full-on setups with amplification in the parking lot blocking cars. - Their security is unresponsive to junkies 20 feet from the front doors shooting up in front of kids. I have reported each and every one of these incidents to employees and management, who do absolutely nothing. The freezer problem has been an issue for over a year. The management needs to be fired. You know....I think I'll just be a rebel and not mirror every single review that's giving this Vons a bad rep. Yes it's true; the lines are long - so long that I actually have time to flip through one of those stupid gossip magazines that has a face of the Kardashian monsters on the front cover. For example today I "learned" that mamager Kris has been sleeping with her daughters baby daddy Scott. What I really wonder is how many of my brain cells died reading that smut. But I digress. Yes even with the long lines I think everyone here is rather friendly and I do think they do their best. The store is rather well stocked and I never have any issues finding the items I need. I know the store set up like the back of my hand, unlike the Pavilions on Montana where they seem to change shit up on the regular - which is a pain because going to the isle where you know the damn chocolate chip cookies should be and finding tampons instead is no fun. The people who work here are also characters - and I mean that in the best way possible. There is that girl that will talk your ear off so much that you wish you went to a different checker; and that guy who always helps me to my car that shouts to his work buddies that he won't be back since I'm taking him home with me (hahaha) and that other guy that always used to talk sports to my ex, thank you lord I'm single now and don't have to hear a lick about it. I don't know how much one can write about a grocery store...it's a grocery store...you get your grub and you GTFO. I shop at the Santa Monica Vons every week. I like the store brand and everything is pretty good. The produce usually is fresh and well priced. The people are very nice and the baggers work very hard. But this week, there was an incident that was sad and shocking. Today I witnessed a guy with arms full of food leaving quickly from Vons on 14th and Wilshire. The Security guard (a female) said, "excuse me", toward him but that just made him move faster and then he was gone. What can we do? I know there are not enough Police Officers and these are small crimes that will never be prosecuted. Perhaps, it would be good to keep track of these events to know how pervasive it is. This is crime, just not counted or punished. Perhaps it is time for armed guards at the grocery store? Or cameras in the doorways of the store? This is costing everyone, except the criminals, money. So sadly during the whole coronavirus situation, my family had 2 birthdays. I wasn't sure if we'd be able to go out so way back in March, I bought a box of cake mix for my my daughter's bday and later I noticed that the box was expired already!!! Wow, I read some of the previous reviews and they made me laugh. And not because they were wrong -- actually, most are spot on. This is Vons. Most in Southern California have poor reputations for service, price, and selection. So, Rule 1: Never Expect any of these to be good at Vons (sad but true). Now let's get to this particular Vons. I've been coming here for about 25 years. It has been remodeled and they installed a real ceiling. Crazy huh. With regards to homeless people in the parking lot etc, it's been a homeless hangout spot for years. Vons isn't going to change that. Rule 2: Even when Vons updates, they never do enough to make a real store culture change. Customer Service definitely needs to be improved here. Although I've never had a personal problem with an employee, they are just clueless. Lines are unnecessarily long almost all the time. So the other day, we get on an open line but there is no cashier. When another employee comments on how he is missing, he starts arguing that he was told to do go-backs. What???? While they are arguing, we moved to the only other open line. Nobody apologized, nobody (even a manager) hopped into his place at the register, or asked him to stop arguing and just ring. It was weird and unprofessional (as other reviewers have stated). Rule 3: You will be angry unless you understand and embrace disfunction just enough to get what you need and get out. I used to live down the street from this Vons and shopped here occasionally. Recently I went back to pick up some belongings from my old place, stopped in to buy a bottle of water, and was reminded why I don't miss this place. The lines at this Vons...why can't they figure this out?! There is no self checkout, and whenever huge lines start to form, no additional checkstands open. How is that possible? Things are unkept here and the aisles get dirty. I have been harassed many times by unstable folks both in and outside of this store. Cheating customers. I bought a 5.29 pound pack of chicken breasts and under the meat was a sealed bladder of water weighing 1.8 pounds. I paid 2.49 a pound for a bladder of water. I reportrd thrm to weights and measures a Los angeles government agency. The offered to replace the water with an equal weight of chicken. They are knowingly cheating customers. read more
