A fantastic find in SM. Have been going there for years & I have learned a lot about Middle Eastern delights! I am always surprised by some new food wonders that I find! Deli is great, the array of salads & spreads is wonderful. Olive selection, French Feta, nuts, dried fruits and on & on! Marinated Chicken delish-mix 1/2 dark & 1/2 light meat & sear in a skillet until brown. Kebab day such fun & delish. Fresh Salmon is excellent & reasonable compared to other. Not sure if farm raised, but once in a while a treat at a reasonable $ Produce very good & reasonable Solheil is great & I really like visiting his market. read more

Fresh produce at much lower prices than any other store in Santa Monica. Is it all organic? Probably not, but sometimes you also have to think about the budget. It's fresh, it's good quality and to be honest: their fresh produce is actually better than Trader Joe's. Spices, an enormous selection that's worth checking out. Very clean store, lots of Persian food as well as Russian food, the grille made very good food and it was cheap, I paid I think 25$ for the shish kebab and got 5 chops. Very friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely come back here. read more

I went once for the weekend bbq outside in the back and the cook was putting in new coals for the grill and cleaning out the old ones and so all the ashes blew into the wind and right into my face and he didn't apologize or understand that you probably shouldn't clean this way??? Anyway, I still supported the business and bought a kebab but I'm not going back. The mood inside is just as blah. read more

Shop locally! Great produce! Bargains to be found on almost everything! I love their persian cucumbers and other produce. I love their deli department, but most buy their feta cheese. They also have readymade salads such as tabouli or chopped Mediterranean salad. I also love their Digestive cookies! On the weekends they have a BBQ on their back lot parking lot. One serving of their grilled chicken is enough for 2 people! Enter from the back parking lot. Free parking in the back, enter from the alley or on 15th St, north of Wilshire. read more

This place is a treasure. Need baharat? They have it. Sumac? Citric acid? They've got it. Incredible tadziki. They have all kinds of spices, syrups, teas, salads, and breads that make you feel at home - no matter which "Middle Eastern" cuisine you are homesick for. Don't forget to stock up on their perfect "Persian" cucumbers. read more

Tehran Market is easily my favorite Persian market on the Westside. A true one-stop shop for the essentials! The produce is consistently fresh and affordable, and the prepared food is delicious. I recommend the Tahchin, and if you visit on the weekend, the Kabob is a must. It's served the traditional way with fresh bread and roasted tomatoes. It's a clean, well-maintained, family-operated business with friendly staff. Definitely worth checking out! read more

A really cool market with a great selection of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean items. You can find a bit of everything for groceries here, including many products you wouldn't normally see in other stores, which makes it especially fun to browse. They also have free parking on site, which is very convenient. A fantastic spot if you're looking for specialty ingredients or want to explore new flavors. read more

Love this market. It's like taking a trip to Iran. Great location. Clean store. Yummy produce

Tehran Market's weekend outdoor barbecue in the parking lot behind the Market, (Sat-Sun, approx. 11:30 AM-4:00 PM) is a total neighborhood secret. It's not advertised, yet somehow always packed during prime hours--and for very good reason. I know this sounds a little nutty, but this Mediterranean outdoor parking lot grill is off-the-charts outstanding. It's such a fun, delicious experience--like eating truly fabulous street food. The quality is superb. Food immaculate, always fresh, and superb. Here's how it works: you order inside at the cash register, grab your drinks from the refrigerated section of the small market (the black currant soda is the best ever), and do not skip picking up the pre-made tzatziki yogurt-cucumber container from the dairy section. Add it to your plate for the perfect creamy, smoky, pickley flavor combo. Then you take your prepaid ticket outside and hand it to the grill masters. While you're waiting for your meats to grill, some sweet man, comes around and hands out gently salted, crispy fresh Persian cucumber. Perfect palate cleanser and wake-up). Crunch away fellow eaters. Every plate comes with huge portions of grilled veggies (tomatoes, onions, peppers), pickled everything, fresh herbs, and your kebab choice. Grill options include chicken kebab (light or dark meat), lamb chops, grilled beef, ground beef, and Cornish game hen. You get one skewer of meat per plate--but trust me, that skewer is generous enough to leave you with leftovers for the next day. Price isn't cheap, but it's fair for the quality and portion size. The ambience? Beyond rustic. This is happening in a parking lot behind the market. Plastic tables. Paper towels. No plates. Tiny napkins. The food is so good and the experience so fun that we now bring our own picnic supplies--plates, forks, knives, towels. You sit at communal tables with fellow wish-travelers, surrounded by the smell of smoky grilled meats, and dig in when your paper number is called. (Remember to tip the hard working, expert, grill masters). Pro tip: Ask for the grilled flatbread on top. If it's wrapped around the kebab, it gets soggy. This is not for the faint of heart. It's messy. It's not fancy. It's wildly addictive. Incredible food, great energy, and one of the most fun eating experiences around. We can't seem to stay away on weekends. Bonus: run back into the market afterward for fresh mint and herbs, cold plump dates, and other treats if you have time. Hidden gem. Full stop. read more

We went into this market with the intention of grabbing a quick lunch, and while the food took a while to make, it was worth the wait. The beef and chicken kabob plates that we ordered came with much more food than anticipated. We waited over 20 mins but the kabobs were being freshly cooked, so again, worth the wait. The very nice man who helped us gave us the tip to call ahead of time so we don't have to wait as long! The market is also very well stocked and clean. read more

Will definitely be back! Great options that are well priced! I get my chicken from this market and my family loves it!

Came to a weekend cookout in the back of this Persian grocery store!   A hungry crowd stood around waiting for chargrilled skewers of meat and veggies. There's options of your typical proteins and not-so-typical ones, like kidney, liver, and heart kabobs. Our tray of beef, chicken, and salmon skewers came with whole roasted tomatoes, bell peppers, and bread - super filling for the 3 of us.  The wait can be quite long, so I went inside the store to explore. It's a clean space with lots of specialty baked goods, produce, and spices. Thinking back, I wish I had bought the Rosewater & Saffron ice cream bucket! read more

Tehran Market - Beef, chicken thigh, and salmon kabobs - International Grocery Near Me - Santa Monica, California

It's a grocery store so don't look for ambiance. Very clean, some very fresh produce and some others not so much. People are nice but if you order bbq and kabob make sure to ask for med or med rare otherwise you get something that's hard to impossible to chew. In the past I have gotten much better kabobs there but not anymore. I called to talk to the manager to talk about the issue but the girl over the counter did not put him on the phone. When I complained about the food she didn't bother to apologize or offer any solutions. If I did not live so far away I would just drop off the kabob ( not asking for my money back ) just so they know how bad the meat was. I ordered koobideh, chicken thighs and lamb kabob. All equally ineatable. read more

I come here all the time to get middle eastern staples like sangak and barbari bread, basmati rice, doogh, and yogurt to name a few. The first time I came here the cashier made sure to tell me that the gallon of doogh (yogurt drink) was yogurt and not milk - I don't look middle eastern so good looking out but I told him that I grew up drinking doogh lol. They have a small produce section which I frequent for fresh mint and Persian cucumbers. Prices and quality are great. Ralph's is super close to me but they have awful persian cucumbers so I drive a couple extra minutes to come here. They have a deli and hot food section with a lot of items prepped for to go. I've tried the shole zard (sweet yellow rice pudding) and ash e reshteh (noodle soup) and both were good. I've always heard of the bbq in the parking lot on weekends but never came in on a weekend until recently. I got the mix koobideh which is one skewer of ground chicken kabob and one skewer of ground beef kabob. I was handed a salted persian cucumber to snack on while I wait for the kabobs to be made and it was so refreshing on a hot day. The kabobs came with some sangak bread and a salad/pickled veggies combo. I assumed the order would come with rice but that was my mistake for not clarifying. The kabobs were delish! It was $19 for two kabobs. Plenty of parking out back. Inside is clean and organized. read more

I personally love this Persian market. I read a review saying they were rude but I have never experienced that. High quality market with outstanding bbq sessions every weekend. Highly recommend the prepared foods too

It's frustrating when the food is actually worth the trip, but the service and pricing policies make the visit feel like a chore. The BBQ/grill quality is top-tier and "really good. No splitting: Unlike many other restaurants, they do not allow you to split orders to save on costs. It seems the poor service and the rude behavior is a known issue among other customers as well. These foodie influencers we saw on social media (Alix and Zoya) were hyping up this bread called Sangak so we had to trek it out to Santa Monica only to walk out with way more than what we came for. We accidentally even dropped a jar that broke in the aisle and offered to pay for it but the super sweet worker insisted we didn't have to. Every one was so friendly and warm! The store was so clean. It was actually my first time shopping at a Persian grocery store. We've been to many other ethnic ones and this one was spotless with such a nice selection of intriguing products and fresh goods! One of the men grilling the kebabs in the back even gave us a salted cucumber while waiting for our order. They also hooked us up with a box of pickled veggies and the kebabs were delicious! We parked at the front of the store only to realize there was a bigger lot in the back. Excellent first time experience and we will definitely return. read more

Teran Market hands down is the best market in Santa Monica. Not only do the food they make fresh, delicious but full of high quality ingredients..every bit is savory. While the food that is made is amazing, delicious, the market itself has grocery items one can buy that is high quality and the unique that probably can't be found anywhere but in Tehran Market SM. I genuinely love visiting this market and can't stop speaking about it to my friends and family to visit if they have not as from the food, the shopping experience and the people that own the stores are so kind respectful and host as you are part of their family. Can not wait for them to open the restaurant next door as I know it will be the next happening spot! read more

The staff are friendly and helpful, and the place is very organized and clean. Plus, they have parking right behind the building.

I love this market. I get the dried dates , goji berries, Iranian raisins, and black tea usually. They're the best quality I've seen. The tea is reasonably priced, I love its paper packaging with Perso-Arabic writing (ok I know the tea is from India). I like their diary selection, nuts and tahinis. Oh and they have fresh yellow Barhi dates! Service is great, quiet inside and clean. Has its own parking lot! No wonder I keep shopping there. read more

Can't believe I never reviewed this place. I thought that I had. Big shop with good selection of dry goods, produce, and meat section. The precooked lamb is wonderful! The employees inside the shop are not very friendly but who cares when the food is so fantastic. And anyway the weekend bbq in back is the star of the show! The ppl on the grill seem to be a bit more friendly. Must be the fresh air haha. Omg the kabobs are seriously to die for. I'm dead. Super tender and flavorful beef kabobs. Comes with all the fixins and they give you packets of sumac to go with your food. Excellent. Dare I say the best Persian food I've had in my life. Dat beef thooo. The baby love love loved it and she is so picky when it comes to meat for real. This place is a must try! read more

Five stars for the weekend BBQ! On Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30am to 4pm. there's an outdoor bbq in the parking lot in back. You pay inside, get a ticket and hand it to someone at the stand. Their barbecue is very popular, so you'll have to wait at least 20 minutes for your order to be ready. While you wait, you can snack on a salted Persian cucumber. They have several kabobs available, starting at $7.99 for a heart/liver or kidney to up to $23.99 for lamb. There's koobideh, Cornish chicken, too. We got a chicken and a salmon kabob. Their kabobs are long, so there were three chicken thighs and two salmon fillets in the order. You also get grilled tomatoes, bell pepper, pickled veggies, herbs, lavash and sangak. The kabobs are perfectly cooked. I ordered the salmon medium-rare and it was nice and moist and flavorful. I wasn't going to eat all the chicken, but it was so good that I couldn't help myself. It's a lot of food for the money and in retrospect, we probably could have just ordered one kabob and added a side from the deli counter for two people. I have several kabob places that are much closer, but this one was worth going out of my way for! Free parking in the lot and metered street parking. read more

It's nice to have a small grocery store so near by. The prices are very reasonable considering the location. Unfortunately, some of the staff act like something from SNL skit. The staff that stock the isles and work behind the hot/cold counter are friendly. The staff at the register are rude. I waited three years to write this. I kept trying to give them the benefit of doubt. Bad day? Exhausted? Etc. I'm done. They're just rude. Still giving three stars due to the variety of food and quality. To the owners- pls!! The staff at the register are not just aloof, they are aggressively rude. They are not being held against their will, right? Maybe start small... no growling?
