We arrived around 5:30pm on a Saturday, there was plenty of parking. When entering Trader Joe's, the place looks spacious. When approaching 3 Trader Joe's employees for the passcode for the restroom, they do not bother to look up from their conversation. One provides the code; however, since the employee is not facing me it was difficult to hear the code. After asking 3 times to verify the code, the employee finally faced me and I can clearly hear the code. When entering the restroom, you can see a layer of dirt on the floor. When walking on the floor, you can hear the scrapping of dirt between my shoes and the restroom floor tile. It is one of the few places where there is a huge supply of frozen kimbap and green onion pancake. When checking out, we didn't hear from the employee the usual greeting or any questions if we found everything we needed that other Trader Joe's locations employees will do. At this location, it was complete silence while checking out. There are so many other Trader Joe's locations so we probably will not come to this location again even though there are beautiful dogs visiting and there is a supply of frozen kimbap and green onion pancake.

All the Trader Joe's of Santa Monica are great! This is a more popular community store because it's near more apartments. so it's always busy and sell out things a lot faster. I still love this place and it has a nice selection.

They switched out the 1.25 litre for a 1 litre size. Same price though.

They pulled a sneaky one. They switched out the 1.25 litre sparkling water, for a 1 litre sized water. SAME price. Gotta make up for the loss on other items I guess? Thing is where else are they increasing the cost of stuff? In a sneaky manner.

If you've never been to Trader Joe's, it's definitely worth a visit! Being that I live in Miami Beach, there's none close to me since I'm dead center in between the one down south and the one up north. The only one I've been to was the one recently in Santa Monica and what a cool location; obviously, anything is cooler when it's in Cali and wow, so many amazing things to see and buy here, it's too bad I was just stopping by. Service here from everyone I encountered was super friendly and eager to help you if you had a question. They're like a Whole Foods but on a smaller scale with nearly everything private labeled, plus they also sell alcohol in case that LA traffic got you a little cray cray. Just like Whole Foods, you enter and there's a ton of flowers just outside and on the inside too. The produce, meats and fish selections all look so good, it motivates you to want to buy something even if you don't have a means to cook it. I seriously they open one on the Beach one day soon...

Big shout out to Cashier Lauren! I didn't have my debit card I left in another purse. I felt flustered! She was so helpful & creative on what I could manage with my limited cash! I wound up with all I needed! Thank You for such understanding & kindness!

It's so easy to get in and out, and since I temporarily live a 1/2 block away, it's especially convenient for me. This Santa Monica Trader Joe's is easily one of my favorites. The store is clean, well organized, and easy to navigate, with everything you'd expect -- pantry staples, fresh produce, and their famously affordable (and beautiful) flowers. What makes ALL Trader Joe's locations stand out, though, is their staff. The teams are always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and they make every visit pleasant. The only downsides are: 1. The store is underground, there's basically no mobile service inside -- so definitely screenshot your shopping list before you go in. This makes looking up recipes impossible. They need to get store wifi for customers, like Vons. 2. It's a bit smaller than most other TJ's, but it still covers most of what I need. And if they don't have something, there's a newly opened Vons just two blocks up Broadway. Overall, this is a gem of a store in a fantastic location -- truly one of the best grocery spots in Santa Monica.

This is a funny grocery store. The co-op is a Santa Monica institution from the old days when the…read moreneighborhood had strong community values, although it's always been expensive and a class statement to shop here. It's usually been an older crowd that's wanted whatever health products were popular 10-20 years ago. At one point during the late 90's and early 00's, it was tremendously popular with the celebrity class of LA, and it was Erewhon before there was Erewhon. It has since drifted into a more relaxed, slightly frumpier incarnation now in 2026. As you can see from all the 1 and 5 star reviews, it's a place that inspires both stubborn loyalty and intense frustration in equal measure, and I think that about sums up experience for the uninitiated. You'll see that I've split the difference with this 3 star review in an attempt to capture reality. This is far from a perfect grocery store -- the prices are high, a lot of the produce is not looking so good, the milk is always about to expire, the aisles are poorly organized, they're missing lots of things you want. But it's also a real co-op and not a chain, it's possible to eat healthfully from here, and they are extremely responsive to their member's (numerously and frequently delusional and extremely SaMo) requests. The angry reviews about bad service here are overblown; I've been here dozens of times and never had a problem. And as long as it's member-owned, it can always change for the better very quickly, which I've seen happen here before, and may happen again. Personally, my reason for not shopping here is just the poor organization of the store overall, selection of dry goods which are widely second-rate to me, and shabby, soon-to-be-expiring produce and perishables attached to a luxury price. I see no reason to shop here when I have the SaMo farmer's market AND better organized specialty stores like Erehwon or McCall's right near by -- which are, despite what numerous reviews here desperately proclaim, the exact same price point as Co-Opportunity. I hope this clears up why the reviews here are all-over-the-place, it's because the store is too!

The parking lot is chaotic with tiny spaces and valet -- very LA energy. Inside, the grocery store is small, compact, and filled with people. No dogs allowed inside but they are allowed on the outdoor patio. They have a clean bathroom in the back for customers. The smoothie/café line was long, but they text you when your drink is ready, which helps. While waiting, I wandered to the hot bar -- also overpriced, but honestly delicious with tons of options. Way better than any Barons, Whole Foods, or Lazy Acres hot bar I've tried. The store carries lots of unique brands and has a huge beauty/skincare/supplement section. There's even someone at the front greeting people and offering samples. Outside, there's a patio for eating. Overall, it's a cool experience -- definitely overpriced, but fun to check out at least once. And it's in a lovely area, which makes the stop even better.

Sometimes they have an attitude. Sometimes they're better. Excuse me? I came here to shop and there's four different crates there. Why can't they do this in the early morning and evening instead of during lunch hour? And of course like I mentioned no matter when I go there they're doing it. And sometimes the two people that are supposed to be unloading the merchandise are just standing there talking to each other. So that takes up more room with two bodies standing there where it's literally where I can't maneuver or move and then the other customers are trying to maneuver and move through this maze as well. It makes me not want to shop there because it's a lot of stress just to be able to maneuver and squeeze around these crates and then the to employees that are supposed to unpack those or just standing there and talking. If any of the managers get this could you please do something about this? Otherwise you'll lose a customer. And probably other customers as well. Tehran Market's weekend outdoor barbecue in the parking lot behind the Market, (Sat-Sun, approx…read more 11:30 AM-4:00 PM) is a total neighborhood secret. It's not advertised, yet somehow always packed during prime hours--and for very good reason. I know this sounds a little nutty, but this Mediterranean outdoor parking lot grill is off-the-charts outstanding. It's such a fun, delicious experience--like eating truly fabulous street food. The quality is superb. Food immaculate, always fresh, and superb. Here's how it works: you order inside at the cash register, grab your drinks from the refrigerated section of the small market (the black currant soda is the best ever), and do not skip picking up the pre-made tzatziki yogurt-cucumber container from the dairy section. Add it to your plate for the perfect creamy, smoky, pickley flavor combo. Then you take your prepaid ticket outside and hand it to the grill masters. While you're waiting for your meats to grill, some sweet man, comes around and hands out gently salted, crispy fresh Persian cucumber. Perfect palate cleanser and wake-up). Crunch away fellow eaters. Every plate comes with huge portions of grilled veggies (tomatoes, onions, peppers), pickled everything, fresh herbs, and your kebab choice. Grill options include chicken kebab (light or dark meat), lamb chops, grilled beef, ground beef, and Cornish game hen. You get one skewer of meat per plate--but trust me, that skewer is generous enough to leave you with leftovers for the next day. Price isn't cheap, but it's fair for the quality and portion size. The ambience? Beyond rustic. This is happening in a parking lot behind the market. Plastic tables. Paper towels. No plates. Tiny napkins. The food is so good and the experience so fun that we now bring our own picnic supplies--plates, forks, knives, towels. You sit at communal tables with fellow wish-travelers, surrounded by the smell of smoky grilled meats, and dig in when your paper number is called. (Remember to tip the hard working, expert, grill masters). Pro tip: Ask for the grilled flatbread on top. If it's wrapped around the kebab, it gets soggy. This is not for the faint of heart. It's messy. It's not fancy. It's wildly addictive. Incredible food, great energy, and one of the most fun eating experiences around. We can't seem to stay away on weekends. Bonus: run back into the market afterward for fresh mint and herbs, cold plump dates, and other treats if you have time. Hidden gem. Full stop.

They've got a nice butcher section with fresh meat and seafood. There's a deli case with close to 20 items -- ribs, chicken, lasagna, mac 'n cheese, soup and more, depending on the day. They've got about a dozen salads, including three potato salads, and about as many deli meats for sandwiches. The beef stew was excellent, the lasagna, chili and meatloaf also very good. The sandwiches are solid and very reasonably priced. Two things stand out for me here: their weekend barbecue and the tamales. Someone in their kitchen makes delicious Oaxacan tamales (which are not always available). These tamales are chock full of chicken mole -- perhaps the highest ratio of filling to masa that I've had -- and are neatly wrapped in banana leaves. The burritos are similarly pre-made and stuffed to the gills with the protein of the day. As for the weekend barbecue, every Saturday and Sunday morning they grill select meats from the deli (prime steaks, tri tip, chicken, etc) which you can buy throughout the day at the deli. The Farms also has fresh vegetables, premade salads and all the other items you'd expect from a neighborhood grocery store. Service is super friendly, and there's free parking in back. It's definitely a good spot for a meal to go.
