Of all the grocery stores in all to towns of all the world, I walk into this one. It is always the same here. Incompetent employees. If you were to say that they are as dumb as an ox, you would be insulting a farm animal. Today was no different. Walk up to the counter with your groceries, and notice the checker just standing there, not moving. Put all your stuff on the belt, still stands there, no movement. I looked him in the eye and said "Is there a problem?". He says "No, I'm just waiting for a price check". The price checker comes back, many minutes later with hands full of stuff, talks to him about prices and using the app, etc, etc. It is always this way here. Every time. Why is this the only store with so many issues? Perhaps it is because they hire drop outs. These people who work at this store are certainly at the top of the stupidity tree. This store is not good at anything they do. I guess if ever there was a contest on stupid jack ass employees, that would be a prize they could win. This one store in particular, is the worst shopping experience you will ever have. Hands down, no contest. for some reason, there are always issues here. Every time. Never fails. consistently, without fail. Having this store on this corner is a waste of good real estate. They could put this land to much better use. Like opening a homeless camp. Then least then we could deal with people who are at a higher intelligent level than this group of morons. I've been shopping at stores all my life, and I understand things happen. But why is it every time, every time, you go here. I have never seen a store with such poorly trained people, anywhere, only here. Too bad for Smart and Final. This store is a looser and a disgrace to the company name. They really should either remove this blemish from their company chain, or get someone in there to fix this place. It's not that hard. All you need to do is train people to be on the ball, unlike everyone currently at this store. At issue here is, they always waste your time. Your time is not considered as anything valuable. This is the common theme to their way of doing business. And they waste your time in so many different ways with the things they do. That is no way to treat your customers. This Smart & Final Extra is great. The entire store is spotless and so well organized. The staff is super helpful and know where stuff is. Parking is easy and free in their large parking lot. They follow Covid procedures, which I find important. I feel safe there. They sell food in bulk like Costco but the prices are often better and the prices is usually better than Wal Mart. The store does not get too crowded and they have enough staff so you are not waiting in line forever, like you are at Costco or Walmart. They also have fresh produce, and a nice bakery section (it is boxed or crated-they don't make baked good there). You can also find some great deals on meat and fish. We got everything we needed there and the service was super. read more

Came in to return an item and ended up wanting to come back next time a a I shop! A friend brought over diapers but bought a size too c small. Luckily he left the receipt. The manager was at the register when I walked in and acknowledged me right away. She told me a certain cashier would help me out where I got the new item I wanted. The manager noticed I I was in a long line and cashed me out. I really appreciate it. I had my 6 mo old son with me and this trip was already not what I wanted to do. While the manager of this store looks sharp and clean cut his attitude towards African American shoppers is a bit more rough around the edges. He acknowledges White customers with a friendless as well as Latinas like himself but he barely makes eye contact with Blacks or even says hello or thank you when he works the register. If it wasn't so blatantly obvious maybe it wouldn't matter. There's no way upper management doesn't get a sense of his arrogance and bias. I don't ever want to shop at this Smart & Final again but that would be a win for his racist mindset. I love this store and have been shopping there for years, probably a decade! And during the height of the pandemic I have to say this store stepped it up and did it ALL right. This is MY store. Sure I shop at other stores too like Wholefoods, Gelsons, Bobs, but S&F is my staple store. These days they have a guy living in their parking lot who has a collection of dogs that is attacking customers and residents on the street in front. Five recent recorded victims and counting. When you shop at this store, check EVERY item you put in your cart. If you discover that your purchased item had been tampered with through no fault of your own, they will NOT refund or replace it with the exact same product. They implement the "All sales are final" to unreasonable practices. To the corporate management: Stop trying to profit off of crisis conditions of today. Stop exploiting customers for maximum bottom line. Start worrying about treating your regular customers more justly (esp those who return often). The loyalty you earn through consistently better customer service, would be more profitable than nickel and diming single transactions. If you can't start thinking about your customers instead of padding your wallets, don't open up for business. HOW you run the company is far more important to customers. Your receipt says "We are in this together..." but it def doesn't feel that way. Change your mindset and do what is right or stop parroting useless platitudes. Smart and final is always my go to spot when I can't stop by costco. They sell items in bulk for cheap just like Costco. They also have great deals on fruits and veggies most of the time. I stopped by here to pick up party supplies and I was happy to find all I needed in one aisle. The associates they work there are always very nice and helpful. I got the best creme puffs from their freezer for only $5. I was in line when the lady in front of me was buying them and I had to have them. The cashier told me where to pick them up and waited for me until I returned with them to charge me :) They receive their items in these plastic crates that are awesome for anyone to use and organize their stuff. I picked up a couple of them on the way out. Plenty of parking available here which makes this place 10 times better. read more

OK I've been shopping here for years and should've left a review along time ago but today they went above and beyond! I left my purse in my shopping cart in the parking lot and it was found almost immediately by an employee and turned into the manager when I arrived back everything was in it and I now don't have to deal with DMV! I go here all the time to get food for my roomates and me when the supply of chips and meat runs low. There is not a better value that I can find in the area. I don't buy beer here or anything, you can get it cheaper elsewhere, but for food and snacks and shizz...this is the place. This location recently upgraded to Smart & Final "extra." They have expanded their selection to include smaller packaged items, more dairy and a full produce section. But they still carry the bulk items if that's your thing. I just learned that they accept coupons, too! The pricing is great. I'll use ground turkey as an example - regular price for a 20 oz. package of Jennie-O is $3.79, compared to $5 or more at a regular grocery store. The other week, they had it on sale - two for $5! While ground turkey probably isn't the best example to use right now (salmonella outbreak!), you get the picture. Ample parking, no club card needed. read more

I've been grocery shopping here at this particular location since I was a kid (with my parents obviously). I enjoy how organized and clean their aisles are. Also I the size/portions of product are perfect for our home, less than Costco and a bit more than your average grocery store. I'm only writing this review because of the restrooms at this store. Nothing short of a fancy restaurant: clean, calm earth ceramic and not the cheapest one they could have found and... a scent of fresh flowers. On top, all soap and towel dispensers are nice brushed chrome and the paper towels are soft and puffy like I never seen at a grocery or even a cafe. In short everything works... unlike the common SoCal big-name markets were they leave vandalism untouched for the sake of not throwing good money after bad. While waiting in line for the cashier I moved over to give a good word to the manager (maybe Eddie Perciado, as mentioned on my receipt...) He said he make a point of maintaining it as if it was his home's restrooms. And he's talk actually walks One tip I share with him is to contract with a local bakery so they could offer at least one type of unpackaged bread baked on the same morning (because they lack an on-site bakery as many market have). On my $76.43 receipt, I was over charged $6???? How can that be? Prices are not the same when they ring it up, prices don't match what you see on the isles, employees are rude, and lack any knowledge of customer service and good manners. Had to go back to get price adjustment, with the receipt and even some of the merchandise because the cashier who just rang me up, won't honor my word and what's printed on the receipt without the merchandise present! The prices here are great. It's clean and well stocked with friendly staff. I don't drink, but people tell me the booze is cheap here also. The prices are a little bit higher than at the Smart & Final in SF, but it's still $14 for a block of First Street sharp cheddar that will last you a month and is pretty tasty cheese to boot. The produce varies from store to store, this particular store being just ok. Most of the stuff is bulk, but nothing I've bought here has ever been low quality, which is a problem sometimes at wholesale places like Costco and Sam's Warehouse. read more

I went today during the mid afternoon. I needed some supplies for my classroom and something for home use and thought of going to Smart and Final. They had everything I needed until it came for something on top of the shelves. It was way too high for me and the shelf said to go get assistance. So I went and looked for someone. I kid you not, there was not one person working the shelves. Everyone seemed to be on a register and not in the aisles. And I walked the entire store looking for someone. I ended up not seeing anyone and with an antzy toddler I decided to check out. The chick at the checkout seemed to be the slowest person ever. Two simple translations should of been done in less then 10 was done in almost 20. And mind you the store isnt really busy. It was less busy then a Ralph's or Trader Joe's. I really don't understand what is smart or final about this place, and when I first started coming here, it was really only when I needed something in bulk, cheaply, and going to Costco or Trader Joe's was totally out of the question (like, say, evening or weekends?). I kind of hated it - huge, empty, kind of depressing, with minimum wage clerks who really couldn't give a sh*t. But when we were doing our play a few blocks away at the Electric Lodge, it came in real handy, bailing us out when we were out of the all-important wine (amazing how much you can go through when you leave the bottles out with a basket, asking for a "suggested donation" of $1. Even old Asian folk will start pounding down the cheap merlot at those can't-miss prices). The folks at the Electric Lodge were downright fascistic about using green materials in things like coffee cups and plastic cups, and Smart and Final actually had this stuff, so again - lives and the environment saved. Since then, we've had a variety of gatherings - writer's salons and casual living room play readings, and of course, there's always some last-minute thing you need, and though Smart and Final ain't as cheap as it ought to be, it's still cheaper than most alternatives when you absolutely have to have something in bulk RIGHT NOW. You all know what's there - food, booze, drinks, barbecue paraphernalia, party paraphernalia, cleaning supplies - a strange business plan to be sure, but I have to admit, I've grown accustomed to this place. read more

I'm a Costco member but I only go there now when I absolutely have no alternative. The store personnel are friendly and efficient. Whole Foods is preposterous, Costco is a nightmare, why shop anywhere else but S&F? Let's see, Why did I want to go to Trader Joe's again? This store is a hidden gem! Such reasonable prices and great selection. The store is very clean, well stocked and the workers are so friendly and are quick to answer questions or help find a product. They have really good black bean veggie burgers in the frozen food section. Also a pretty good selection of dairy alternative mills and cheeses. My only suggestion is I would love to see them carry Hampton Creek Just Mayo. read more
