Objectively, Ralph's is a great grocery store. Unfortunately, I went to Erewhon for the first time the day prior. Truly, they have everything you need here. Balloons, produce, meats, snacks. It's the one-stop grocery shop. Check-out lines were a bit understaffed. We were buying a bottle of wine and had to go through the manned line, which had a longer line. I'm assuming this is a law across California that you cannot purchase alcohol from a self-checkout kiosk. Fair. Starbucks inside was close around 8pm, but looks operational. read more

Customer service starts at the top.! If the manager is worthless. What can you expect from your employees. She is terrible. And needed to be humbled. And I did JUST THAT.! We ordered 144 pieces of chicken for a repast. My sis gets there and BOOM NO CHICKEN. BOTH Nellie's (managers) had my sis there for 30 min with no resolution. I come there UPSET AND LOUD AS EVER.!! The store manager slams the door and said I was yelling. UH YEAH, you have NO FLOUR NO CHICKEN AND WE HAVE PEOPLE WAITING TO EAT.!! Upset was an UNDERSTATEMENT.!!! I said to Nellie "treat people the way you want to be treated".! It makes life simple. After I go to the CS manager and get the number to corporate, now all of a sudden they grab the CHICKEN AND FLOUR FROM THE SHELVES(why is their no chicken and batter ready to go in that dept) .! If Nellie has treated us this way, I can only imagine how they have done others. Neither one of the managers came out of the office to speak to my sis to begin with. We had to WALK AND STAND AT RHE DOOR TO THE OFFICE. It was almost like they wanted us to go away. And that was not happening.!!! Get it ALL THE WAY TOGETHER, and Fast.!! I was so mad, I was IN TEARS. You had two mngrs Antwonisha and another, as well as another African American woman in the service deli that did their best to make it happen. And for that I am thankful. I live in the marina. this WAS my ralph's. this location sucks soooo badly & now that someone built a wall to cut off access to/from the bike path I will not be going there anymore. Customer service is poor and non-existent. No greeting by cashier, no "Did you find everything you needed today?" She scanned my items, and proceeded to pile them on top of each other precariously because there was no bagger. I started to bag my own items for fear of them falling over and getting damaged. No reaction from the cashier - but, she was in conversation with the cashier from the next lane (in Spanish). I should just never go in; even when they are empty. This is the worst supermarket of any Ralphs or any other chain. The management here either is incompetent or has lost control of the ability to keep staff working politely and efficiently. There are so many problems here, it's not worth going into. I've used this place an and off for a long time and have noticed an increased bad vibe toward certain groups of people. Call it 'racism' if you want, but I dunno, perhaps just ill-mannered mostly younger employees more comfortable with certain people with similar backgrounds. Okay, you can call it racist if you think that's what is going on here. You might be right. Anyhow, I periodically will think, "Okay, I'll just run in here and get a few things and get out." NOT WORTH IT! on many fronts. BTW, I have gotten home and realized I was overcharged. And one time, had items that I did not purchase. WTF? How could that happen? Never had SO MANY problems with a grocery store like this location. Everything goes wrong. They gave away my pickup order to someone else. They didn't admit it and had to redo it while waiting. This is a really low-end Ralph's. We shop here only because it is convenient, and buy only the basics. The meat in general is pretty mediocre, so we buy that at the much nicer Pavilion's. Service is hit or miss. There are some good employees and some awful ones. It is regularly understaffed, and boyfriend routinely bags our groceries instead of waiting for the cashier to do it. Good luck finding an employee if you need something or have a question. There are at least two vehicles with homeless people living in them in the parking lot, and other homeless folks living on the store property. This store has really gone downhill in the last few years. They should change their name to Sad's, because that's how it makes me feel. Pro Tip: Go to the Ralph's on Admiralty Way in the Marina. If I could give this store a negative I would. I shop there most of the time. Noticed that they blocked off a a section of the store where they have the toothpaste and mouthwash. Now if I want to get something I have to walk all the way around and pay what I need there instead with the rest of my items. Since I'm a regular i know most of the employees. Seen a new women in that section heavyset dark-skinned dirty looking women. Was just leaning on the counter where the register is at didn't even get a greeting from her. Now, it's dirty, unorganized, carts left everywhere, the stockers blocking the entire aisle with unatended carts, homeless openly stealing, disgruntled employees talking in a negative matter, rotten fruit and vegetables left oit more often than not, old baked goods, close to expired foods, cars left in the parking lots for weeks at a time, homeless smoking beside the main doors. After being told "just because you see it online doesn't mean we have it in store" by another Ralphs, i tried this location. What i ordered was a shark birthday cake. well this Ralphs also called and said they didn't have shark decorations and i was mad, and i let them know. but it was too late to order from anywhere else so i said do what we you think, and to my surprise the baker hand painted a really cute shark on the cake! and the way the frosting looked like water was awesome! I like RALPH'S and I shop there all of the time. I like the coupons I receive in the mail that reflect items I purchase all of the time, but I would much prefer double coupons like they used to have in the past. The help is satisfactory and the management is good for the most part and I'm happy to see there labor issues are now behind them with a new contract. My issue with this location is the miserable and failed deli operation. I used to be a member of the UFCW and I worked the deli counter for at least a decade along with fish and bakery. It is a hard job so I empathize with those who work in this department. It is now months, if not more than a year this deli department remains dysfunctional and mismanaged and it is obvious they do not have a direct manager to supervise the operation. The department lacks staffing and there is only one (1) long-time employee I can identify having shopped here for decades. It is a revolving door of poorly trained employees that lack any guidance as to what is important and that is customer service first. Keep the lines from forming and listening to what they customer orders and how much. There seems to be no direction and it's gotten to the point that the department closes by 5PM and then you're forced to purchased the pre-cut, Boar's Head items which are not always fresh! RALPH'S is missing the boat on fixing this obvious problem. A good deli department can be a boom to the store's bottom-line and all you need to do is visit BAY CITIES in Santa Monica just down the way on Lincoln to see a successful deli counter hum! Why not steal or recruit someone from BAY CITIES? Working at RALPH'S is a union scale job and if run correctly, you can build a catering revenue as well to say nothing of increased sandwich sales or putting a booth in the parking lot during the summer months for sandwiches and salads alike! Management needs to finally fix this obvious problem by hiring an experienced working deli manager who leads by example and can get some competent staffing because what you have now is rudderless and is hurting the RALPH'S brand and reputation. I will continue to shop at RALPH'S, but what the hell are they waiting for to address this disaster at the deli counter? Enough is enough! read more

This store has the worst service and most incompetent employees. Few days ago once I got home from shopping there I noticed items missing in my bags and also a duplicate charge on my receipt. Today I went back to the store and what should have been a seamless transaction to credit my account and simple apology from the store turned into a hellish experience. At the front desk I was told to just show the receipt to the cashier after I was done with my shopping - and that they would take care of it all at the same time. I did so and the cashier told me I had to go back, find the same items that were missing from the old receipt and bring them back to her - otherwise she couldn't get me the refund. I told her that's not what the other staff member told me and that the cashier would just be able to issue the credit there. She said that was not the case. The bagging person ended up going to look for the items and in the meantime long line forming and a mentally unstable person who was behind me in line started yelling at me, spewing insults, telling me to go back where I came from and physically getting in my space. I was shocked. I called out for security who arrived but just stood there - watched the whole thing and did absolutely nothing while this lady was getting physical. The cashier at this point was able to issue the credit and I left while crazy lady was still screaming and spewing her hatred. This should have been easily handled at the customer service desk - and lack of training and hiring incompetent ppl to be the face of Ralph's added to the problem. I will never set foot at this store again. Total trash all the way. If you have to shop there - always check your receipt and make sure the bagging person is putting all your items in your bag. Such a shame because the pharmacy staff is wonderful. read more

The cashiers ring the grocery so fast, they're careless, they don't care about your food that you're buying. It's like it's a race to see how fast they can shove the product down the conveyor. They expect you to bag it all yourself! If they bag for you, they just throw everything into the bag they don't give a shit if your bread is on the bottom or your eggs are on the bottom. Well, it's hard to make a Ralph's review fun, exciting, and dazzling. BUT, this place is convenient to where I live with pretty extensive open hours AND a good selection of food and non food items. This particular location is a bit larger and with easier parking than the Ralph's on Admiralty, so this is my home grocery store for sure! I guess I place a high priority on WIDE(ish) isles particularly during COVID times. And their produce is pretty good and fresh on average with a decent selection. Now, it's no farmers market, but it's rather good. There was an issue with getting fresh mushrooms in the past, but that problem seems to have been corrected - and they are pretty decent - and edible now! If you need anything from high end salad dressings to hair spray, this Ralphs will have it! We have always found the cashiers to be pleasant and nice - they certainly know us now after going here for years! And honestly, even before COVID, they deal with such a huge volume of people (often rushed and hungry!) that I'm very impressed with the efficiency and professionalism of the cashiers, baggers, stockers, and managers. They are continually cleaning and restocking shelves - which I can imagine is a huge headache during this pandemic - so thank you Ralphs for all that you do for your customers. Oh, and prices are quite good considering the area is so expensive. read more

Ass. manager Veronica teamed up with security guard to follow me . I complained, she ignored me and wouldn't give guard's name. (We called guard's company, American Guard Services, he was suspended before for having followed around and being physically intimidating . He had a record of this toward customers multiple times in the past.) Veronica ignored my complaint and the guard was there upon my second visit. Veronica made vague accusations at me, I asked for more information and she stopped talking. Another day I came in to get Veronica's name from Vilma, a checker I knew pretty well. Vilma refused, walked to and told Veronica, which caused Veronica to start yelling at me . I ask her name because her name badge is illegible, she gets flustered, starts fumbling with her badge to cover it up and runs away. She should be fired and Vilma suspended. read more

The departments like Meat, Bakery and Deli are smaller as well, and the selection is most departments is less than the Ralphs on Admiralty Way. Parking is easier, and the traffic light at Maxella makes it easy to leave going north or south on Lincoln. read more

This store is trash. My car trunk was broken into while I was shopping here tonight, and was wide open when I returned to it. It was still light out. My car was in full view of the entrance to the store and the security guard standing at the store entrance. The store personnel could not have cared less. Store management was rude on the phone when I called in to report it, but did say that security would come out to take a report. Note that I wasn't saying it was their fault or going off or anything, just reporting, and she was just randomly rude. Then security refused to take a report, saying that because it didn't happen in the store, it was none of their business. It was in the Ralph's lot, on Ralph's property, while I spent money at Ralph's. These people define "we don't give a sh*t about you." This is the last time. I've already been annoyed in the past by their lack of cleanliness, the fact that they often have items out of stock, how slow they are with grocery pickup when bringing your groceries out, and with their general lack of cheerfulness as cashiers. But today I was just shocked. I was going to check out and they had two cashiers running two lines. Both lines were backed up. As I'm waiting in line, I overhear the bag boy ask the cashier if they are just short staffed today or if it's just that busy. Mind you - it's about 4:30/5pm on a Friday, so I think any grocery store can expect that might be a busier time, and they had two lines running. But really, that's not what bothered me the most and it's not what caused me to leave the store and write this review almost immediately. I'm writing this review because of how I was treated checking out. I waited in line just like everyone else. Yes, I had a good amount of groceries. Shouldn't matter. The cashier checked me out, and let all the food pile at the end, where a bag boy slowly (very slowly) proceeded to bag them. Once the cashier was done ringing everything up, instead of then assisting bagging the items, of which almost everything was still not yet bagged, she instead began checking the people out behind me. I was shocked. I had no bags to help, and my stuff if just sitting there piled at the end of her register. The people behind me had smaller loads, but she still had to keep them separate from mine, bag theirs, and then they had to get out of the aisle around me and my cart which was still being loaded up obviously. She checked at least three people up rather than finish checking me out by bagging the remaining items so I could be on my way. Now, even if this next part wasn't true - what I've said so far on its own is infuriating. But on top of that, I had my four young kids with me. So when I say people had to get around me and my cart, they had to get around me and my cart and four kids as she continued to check others out. My kids also are little kids - so patience isn't their strong suit, and they were loud and in the way as kids often are. But instead of helping us finish so we could get out of everyone's way, she did the opposite and made us wait and be in people's way etc. Even when I looked her in the eye like, are you serious? She was clueless. I finally turned to the aisle behind ours where a cashier was working and asked him for some bags so I could help bag. I've honestly never seen a cashier do that before and I don't care how busy she felt they were, it was rude and terrible customer service. The icing on top of just that it's even worst to do to a mom with four small children who as one of the three customers she took around us rather than bagging our stuff said, "looks like she has her hands full!" read more

Bought two packets of pens, on special, at Ralph's. They failed to meet my expectations. They were dried out and didn't write that well. I think they were not filled with ink but old carbon that doesn't write a full line. I visited Ralph's yesterday to pick up a movie and some water. Unfortunately, there was a homeless man hanging out in front of the water dispenser. I observed the Ralph's manager notice him and I figured he would say something since he had the dispenser blocked with his bike. The manager said nothing to the homeless man and proceeded to walk inside the store. I thought maybe the manager was busy, but then I saw him just chatting with a cashier.
