Yes, I spent $20 on a smoothie and made a pit stop on my road trip just to shop at Erewhon for the first time. The viral smoothie? It's good -- and at that price point, with all that collagen and "good stuff," I'm hoping I walk out glowing. It tastes like a strawberry milkshake disguised as a wellness drink, and honestly, I get the hype. If it makes me look snatched, even better. Now, the store itself... this place is packed. The parking lot is chaotic with tiny spaces and valet -- very LA energy. Inside, the grocery store is small, compact, and filled with people. No dogs allowed inside but they are allowed on the outdoor patio. They have a clean bathroom in the back for customers.The smoothie/café line was long, but they text you when your drink is ready, which helps. While waiting, I wandered to the hot bar -- also overpriced, but honestly delicious with tons of options. Way better than any Barons, Whole Foods, or Lazy Acres hot bar I've tried. The store carries lots of unique brands and has a huge beauty/skincare/supplement section. There's even someone at the front greeting people and offering samples. Outside, there's a patio for eating. Erewhon is honestly very overpriced for what you get. The food did not match the price point at all. That said, the smoothies were the highlight. We got the Jhené Aiko smoothie and the Hailey Bieber smoothie; the Jhené Aiko one was good but had a really strong coconut flavor, so I'd give it an 8/10. The Hailey Bieber smoothie was fire, easily a 10/10. The staff, however, were extremely slow. Our drinks were already blended and sitting there, yet it took forever just to pour them. They were talking to each other and didn't acknowledge us at all, which felt straight-up disrespectful. It took about five minutes to do one simple task that should've taken seconds. As for the hot plates: they were okay. The mac and cheese could've been much more cheesy and rich. The Korean short ribs were soft and had a nice grilled flavor, and the kale broccoli was solid. The steak with chimichurri was very mid: the steak was a bit chewy and gamey, and the chimichurri lacked both spice and salt. The tuna was especially disappointing; it tasted old and fishy and definitely wasn't worth $20 given how unfresh it seemed. The ambiance was nice as everything was clean but they have limited seats so take a note of that. Overall, Erewhon feels more like hype than quality. I'm a local, live 3 minutes away from it. I prefer to walk than to park my car in their valet parking as it gets congested during lunch and dinner hours. The staff is very welcoming except one lady there, she's not very nice to people of color and she's a woman of color. But she's nice to everyone else and I'm not the type to pay attention to that but I peeped that, as I'm a women of color. Some of the cashiers are not very nice. However, at the Hot Bar everyone is very hospitable. Prices are not bad if you really go in there in look they do have a lot of items on sell, especially different drink options if you want to try something new. I'm also a member and it's worth it. First time at any Erewhon, but I heard about the "viral" Hailey Bieber smoothie and the prices and selection, so of course I had to check it out. Honestly, seeing valet parking (and it was full) was kinda shocking. We just ended up parking at a neighboring area and walked over. It was pretty packed with people shopping for groceries or just buying lunch items--prepared foods and drinks and the smoothies. Their selection is top notch with it all being the best of the best with no questionable ingredients and trustworthy brands. It was a little hectic since there were a ton of people shopping at the same time, but still manageable. Bathrooms were limited to two genders neutral options, so we were waiting for a bit. Some of the aisles were super close together so you felt a bit sandwiched in between at times. I'm guessing this is to maximize space and fit in a lot of products to shop for. They had everything from single serve drinks, frozen and refrigerated items, dry food items, health and body items, and breads, other prepared foods and snacks, pizza and the hot bar, and the drinks. They even sell accessories with the Erewhon name (saw at the sales counter at front of store). Check out process was efficient and they do put stickers on your items to note that it was paid for. The huge line that we saw honestly moved super fast. There were two greeters/employees/theft prevention people at the front that checked for this. We ate outside in the enclosed patio. They had a nice sitting area with chairs and benches and since it was a nice day, was a great option to have. The pizza was pretty tasty and a decent size slice. Same with the green drink that I got. It's definitely worth it to shop here since I can trust the quality of what I'm getting and the taste was quite good. read more

Located near a busy area and buildings, this Erewhon is within a nice area! They have valet parking or street parking (for a fee). I love their outside seating and aesthetics. They had many workers at the time I went. I believe that their options are fairly priced for the most part. We went to the hot bar and the workers were kind and attentive! They truly have nice workers at this location and are efficient with their service. My favorite is their seared salmon! Definitely recommend coming here and spending time if you are able. read more

I was influenced to finally try the viral Hailey Bieber Strawberry Skin Glaze Smoothie. Unfortunately for me, I absolutely loved it. While it is expensive for what it is, it can be a fun once in a while treat. I also made some grocery purchases at this location and honestly their prices aren't bad on all items. Mind you, a lot of the items are overpriced, but some items are the same price as if I bought them at Whole Foods, Sprouts, or etc. Other items are a given to be more expensive due to their packaging and "clean" ingredients. If you haven't heard of Erewhon yet you may be living under a rock. Erewhon is so on brand with a certain LA stereotype, haling itself as the grocery designer store. Forget keeping up with the Joneses; we're here to clobber them. Not many grocery store experiences start with the valet in the parking lot. The parking lot at this location is especially tiny so you may see a line forming out on the street. You'll be forgiven if you confuse it for a car show or the drop off at The Beverly Hills hotel as the lot will be filled with G Wagons, Range Rovers, and Teslas. Anyways, you go inside and you are transported into a different world. The smell of a higher tax bracket is in the air, mixed with candles of unicorns and aura crystals. Jokes aside, at least this location is slightly bigger and more modern than most so it's not as cramped, though it still kind of is. They've definitely elevated the ordinary grocery store experience to something; don't want to be confused and mixed up with the poors and too-commercial whole foods shoppers, you know? Depending on when you go, anywhere between 10 and 50 percent of shoppers are just there for the food court, mostly to have the honor to have their lips blessed by those bougie $20+ smoothies. If you went to Erewhon and didn't get a Hailey Bieber smoothie, did you even go? Jokes on us because they have such strong brand recognition, they are probably charging their suppliers an inclusion fee to proudly list them as part of the ingredients. Not many can boast the same level of cultural cachet. The staff is extremely friendly and likely underwent intense training which surely prepared them to masterfully deal with any do-you-know-who-l-am Karen and diffuse the situation by assuring them they are indeed the most important person in the world. As a bonus, you'll get to practice your valley girl accent, like oh my god like literally no joke, I'm so dead right now... So you may be asking if those smoothies are worth the exorbitant prices but that would be the wrong question. Going back to the analogy with designer brands - many charge not based on how much it costs to make the garment but what the market would bear; the price is not so much a byproduct of the means of production but the main deterrent helping to weed out the other in order to form the it crowd (some may call it the fan base, others a cult). So when someone is rocking the $150+ Erewhon tote bag, it's not because they thought it cost more than $15 to produce but because having it is used a signal to others about their status and values. read more

Accidental first Erewhon experience! After the bakery that we originally wanted to go to did not have the bread that we wanted to buy, we left, looked across the street in the pouring rain, and--lo!--there she was. Erewhon. It had to be done. Of course we got in the smoothie line to get the Hailey Bieber smoother because we are suckers for corporate marketing and Instagram influencing. It had to be done. When we had a brief family discussion regarding what baked goods to get (viz, "Does ANYONE know what chaga is?!?!"), the very expensive lady in front of us explained that it was a mushrooom, and that the muffin was very good, and at that point, there was no turning back, we had to get that chocolate mushroom muffin. Actually the chocolate mushroom muffin was freaking amazing. You do not taste the mushroom! It was super moist, super chocolaty and dense, and thank you, rich lady, for convincing us. The megachip cookie (normal cookie, no random vegetables) was also incredible, and we loved the almond croissant (although one of us find it slightly too crispy). As for the "strawberry glaze" $21 smoothie: it was really sweet. Like, too sweet. And the strawberry tasted off. A lot of their specialty items looked really good, and we did buy some stuff to go (popcorn, date bites, etc) as souvenirs. So, overall, this was such a silly experience mingling with the upper crust of Santa Monica, but we're kind of glad that we did it. We can actually see ourselves coming back again one time for a causal lunch of dinner when we're back in LA. They're just being themselves here with this silliness, so who are we to judge! It's a gourmet grocery store showdown! I went to Gelson's, Bristol Farms, and Erewhon on the Westside to see which one reigns supreme when it comes to snacks and prepared foods. Tagline: "If it's here, it's good for you" Initial thoughts: Yup, it's pricey. They consulted Lucile Bluth from Arrested Development and made her in charge of setting their prices. A single strawberry from Kyoto... what could it cost? $19? Raw whole milk... I don't know, $21? Quarter gallon of maple syrup... $40 sounds good! Experience: Fairly busy on a Friday morning, I came right at opening. No problems with parking. An employee warmly greeted me as I walked in and two others asked if I needed anything. Tonic bar line was long (my visit was prior to April 8th's closure by the Department of Public Health). Hot foods area had a good amount of options available, while some of the other prepared meals were not ready at the time. I walked around the other aisles and saw mostly premium brands and private labels. Indoor seating is decent and they have more tables outside on the patio. Food: Avoid, avoid, avoid those terrible vegan "short ribs", the gummy texture was off putting and no amount of organic teriyaki sauce can save it. The bottle of Strawberry Coconut Milk was decently creamy but nothing really special. I did like the sea salt plantain chips, those had a good crunch to them and are very addicting. It's a great market for produce coffee and baked goods and snacks It's claustrophobic in the packaged grocery section and this store is ON FIRE with lines just about every time you're there . It can even at 10:00 am-ish take literally 15 min for a cappuccino . I don't eat a lot from their service deli because many items are garlic laden. I enjoy their baked goods and especially their chocolate dipped biscotti in the mason jars . about $12 bucks a jar . I used to drink their celery juice but that's been really out priced , and the glass is pretty dangerous . i've dropped a few bottles in my kitchen and the glass splinters everywhere . It's in a great location because besides milo and olive there was nothing really walking distance for the medical offices . Everything on the shelf looked so presentable with the labels facing outwards in the same direction. I decided to buy some stuff for myself like a candle, Erewhon insulated bag, and a tote bag. I think I bought like 4-5 items and it totaled to around $250 lol. I also went to try the $20 Hailey Bieber Smoothie. I think $20 is too much, you should charge like at most $17 for it. Everyone was nice though, I've been asked a couple of times if I needed any assistance, which you don't normally get when you shop for groceries anywhere else. I am very sad to be writing this. This is my local Erewhon and I have been coming here for many years. My husband and I shop here when we want a specialty soup, or something made from their kitchen. As I love some of their vegetarian and vegan options. I went in today to pick up a few items and drop off some of my soup and drink jars to recycle and get credit for them. After I checked out and paid I left the store. But to my surprise I got accused of shop lifting!! The man who confronted me was very rude, aggressive and the best part about it was when I told him let's go to the counter and I can prove I paid for it. Which of course I did! He then didn't apologize and acted like everything was fine. I was totally an utterly humiliated and beyond pissed to not even receive an apology. Is this what you get for shopping at an over priced supermarket!?! Public Shame and no apology!?! Erewhon needs to look at how they handle these kinds of incidences. I finally got to try it and here's my thoughts : - soft serve watered down rlly quick & the coconut flavor was too much, too sweet. - strawberry glaze was also a too sweet , combined w/ the soft serve it j tasted like a concoction of sugar. - keto choc chips didn't taste good, understand the healthy concept but it didn't go well with this dessert. When I told the staff I wasn't feeling well, they admitted they had accidentally put real cheese on the vegan pizza. This should never happen. PSA: Expired Face Skin Care Purchased a very expensive Osea Hyaluronic Acid ($88) from this location. Opened it 2 weeks later when my supply ran out completely and was shocked to discover a terrible mildew smell. I am a religious Ósea customer and have used this product every day for well over a year. It typically DOES NOT smell like mildew. Upon researching this smell on Osea's site, it appears the product goes bad after 12 months or if improperly stored. I don't have the receipt anymore and there's no contact info on Erewhon's site so will literally have to throw away the bottle and buy a new one. I was hopeful I could use Erewhon as a place to buy these products since the SM location is 5 mins from my work but now learning my lesson to just continuing purchasing from Osea directly. Let's start w the fact that I've worked in food service for 12 years. I've only been out for a year now. It's hard work. It deserves tremendous respect. Now I work doing customer service calls making more money and the ppl I deal w can often be angry. What do I do? I empathize, address, and solve. Why? I'm efficient and that's the job. Let's get to the story. Andy C., their manager, just told me to shut up 5 times in a row under his breath at checkout when I asked to swap a cold water for a room temp water. I ordered pickup on the app and asked my shopper who I tip to do so. The shopper didn't respond. My order for a hot chocolate, water and soda took over 30 minutes at pick-up. I asked Andy if my water was cold and he said, a little, yeah. So I started explaining to him that I ordered online and waited a surprisingly long time (more than 30 minutes) for a to-go hot chocolate, water, and soda. Andy seemed immediately agitated so I grabbed a room temp water immediately behind me (which took 2 seconds) and asked if he would just check me out to buy it right then and there. I said I was late for work and the bigger one was what I wanted anyway. I said this issue w the shopper not responding has happened before and that's when he interrupted me and said "shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up..." I was obviously silenced and listened intently to really hear it. I looked up at him and asked if he just told me to shut up five times in a row. He looked at me and said to have a nice day, ma'am. He didn't deny it, because he said it. He didn't apologize because that would mean fully acknowledging it. Cut to a week ago when I mentioned to another male manager that it was remotely inconvenient to have the to go area such a far walk from the parking lot. Instead of leading w leadership or curiosity or even lying to me (which would've been a responsible cs decision) and telling me he'd think about that, he said something to the effect of, No, it's easier to get everything at once at pick up. And I responded with that I had experienced it often takes longer when I do that and he simply didn't respond, and, like Andy, seemed agitated, so I smiled and left. He nor Andy care about this store or solving problems. Can we just please only promote WOMEN TO MANAGERS? PLEASE. Their woman manager at the Weho location helped me get my simple mocha to-go 20 min after ordering it online so I could be on time to work and offered to escalate my note about confusion about not being able to place to-go online barista orders until 8am when they open at 7am. She saw a problem and solved it intentionally and with leadership. This is the second Erewhon where a male manager has egregiously disrespected me when asking them to help address and solve a simple problem. The other one in Silverlake was similarly wild. At peak hours the hot bar is understaffed. Even when parking is hectic, it will always be faster and more efficient to pop in than ordering online. 30-40 min for a hot chocolate, a water, a soda and a shopper you tip who doesn't ever respond to your request for the room temp water instead of the cold one. Apparently they don't allow notes on online orders bc the shopper will text you and take care of asks, but they don't respond, and I think that creates more work for them, so.... Anyway I also fear their barista area is understaffed. They are all pretty nice aside from the male managers. My nervous system is now extremely activated at work unnecessarily.
