What you got versus what you bought.
Mark B.

What you bought versus what you got. Put the real picture on the packaging. False advertising. People don't buy this crap It's not real crust. Just cheap filo dough. Big disappointment. It's a good day though. Vons at Lincoln and Broadway has opened. Will shop at a real grocery store now. Thank God they brought it back. Won't have to go to this 99cent store of markets.

Cozy Trader Joe's in Santa Monica. New to the neighborhood but a classic. Close to 3rd Street Promenade and Beach area. Great option nearby.

Beautiful flowers

This is my favorite place to get groceries in Santa Monica. It's simple, smaller, the people are friendly and efficient, and the flowers are beautiful! Also they have cotton candy grapes that are so fresh!

Charged for a bag even though I said TWICE I don't want one, and brought my own!!!!!!

I absolutely HATE when stores assume you want a bag, charge you for it, and commence with the bagging even though you said TWICE you don't need a bag. You can see from the receipt that the few items will easily fit into a handbag, but I also had a foldable polyester bag as well. Typically when this happens, the cashier just hands me a dime. Not the first time at this store, obviously. I don't want a dime. It's one more thing to carry and keep track of. Instead I want to be heard. I want the cashier and the store to acknowledge that I don't want a bag, and actually NOT give me the bag. This is 100% a training issue. And no, I was not going to hold up the line to get my dime back. Nor was I going to wait for a manager to show up when I'm in a hurry. This is a town where a minute over your parking meter can be costly.

Aloha

All things considered resources are abundant Nearby locations are not only good but also above the norm. Santa Monica is still above the clouds From the pier to the park the beach is wonderful as well as the rest of Santa Monica and Venice. Variety of lifestyles can be enjoyed

Yay! Another location of the best grocery store in the world! The employees here are super friendly and the store is specious and well organized. You will everything you need! The parking is a bit tricky, there is free parking underground and you have to dial a number to get in. When you enter, press 1. When you leave press 2 and the gate will open. The girl who checked me out at the cash register told me that soon the customers will have to scan a barcode. Because this location is underground, there is no phone service which is a big downside I believe. What if you need to make a phone call or get a text? Just keep it in mind. I'll be back here for sure! I love Trader Joe's!

Neighborhood type of Trader Joe's, with friendly and helpful personnel. This small yet basic market is up one level from the street/parking level. Not as plentiful as some other locations, but a nice place to shop.

Elevator to go down to the store level.

We've been wanting a Trader Joe's in DTSM for a while and I'm happy to have such a large TJs now in walking distance.

This is a funny grocery store. The co-op is a Santa Monica institution from the old days when the…read moreneighborhood had strong community values, although it's always been expensive and a class statement to shop here. It's usually been an older crowd that's wanted whatever health products were popular 10-20 years ago. At one point during the late 90's and early 00's, it was tremendously popular with the celebrity class of LA, and it was Erewhon before there was Erewhon. It has since drifted into a more relaxed, slightly frumpier incarnation now in 2026. As you can see from all the 1 and 5 star reviews, it's a place that inspires both stubborn loyalty and intense frustration in equal measure, and I think that about sums up experience for the uninitiated. You'll see that I've split the difference with this 3 star review in an attempt to capture reality. This is far from a perfect grocery store -- the prices are high, a lot of the produce is not looking so good, the milk is always about to expire, the aisles are poorly organized, they're missing lots of things you want. But it's also a real co-op and not a chain, it's possible to eat healthfully from here, and they are extremely responsive to their member's (numerously and frequently delusional and extremely SaMo) requests. The angry reviews about bad service here are overblown; I've been here dozens of times and never had a problem. And as long as it's member-owned, it can always change for the better very quickly, which I've seen happen here before, and may happen again. Personally, my reason for not shopping here is just the poor organization of the store overall, selection of dry goods which are widely second-rate to me, and shabby, soon-to-be-expiring produce and perishables attached to a luxury price. I see no reason to shop here when I have the SaMo farmer's market AND better organized specialty stores like Erehwon or McCall's right near by -- which are, despite what numerous reviews here desperately proclaim, the exact same price point as Co-Opportunity. I hope this clears up why the reviews here are all-over-the-place, it's because the store is too!

It's good -- and at that price point, with all that collagen and "good stuff," I'm hoping I walk out glowing. It tastes like a strawberry milkshake disguised as a wellness drink, and honestly, I get the hype. If it makes me look snatched, even better. Now, the store itself... this place is packed. The parking lot is chaotic with tiny spaces and valet -- very LA energy. Inside, the grocery store is small, compact, and filled with people. No dogs allowed inside but they are allowed on the outdoor patio. They have a clean bathroom in the back for customers. The smoothie/café line was long, but they text you when your drink is ready, which helps. While waiting, I wandered to the hot bar -- also overpriced, but honestly delicious with tons of options. Way better than any Barons, Whole Foods, or Lazy Acres hot bar I've tried. The store carries lots of unique brands and has a huge beauty/skincare/supplement section. There's even someone at the front greeting people and offering samples. Outside, there's a patio for eating. Overall, it's a cool experience -- definitely overpriced, but fun to check out at least once. And it's in a lovely area, which makes the stop even better.

The aisles are small and I have a bad back and it happens every time and where I have to actually tell them that I need to shop in a certain area there and if they can give me a couple of minutes. Sometimes they have an attitude. Sometimes they're better. Excuse me? I came here to shop and there's four different crates there. Why can't they do this in the early morning and evening instead of during lunch hour? And of course like I mentioned no matter when I go there they're doing it. And sometimes the two people that are supposed to be unloading the merchandise are just standing there talking to each other. So that takes up more room with two bodies standing there where it's literally where I can't maneuver or move and then the other customers are trying to maneuver and move through this maze as well. It makes me not want to shop there because it's a lot of stress just to be able to maneuver and squeeze around these crates and then the to employees that are supposed to unpack those or just standing there and talking. If any of the managers get this could you please do something about this? Otherwise you'll lose a customer. And probably other customers as well. It's like being in a traffic jam in the dairy and frozen section.

They've got a nice butcher section with fresh meat and seafood. There's a deli case with close to 20 items -- ribs, chicken, lasagna, mac 'n cheese, soup and more, depending on the day. They've got about a dozen salads, including three potato salads, and about as many deli meats for sandwiches. The beef stew was excellent, the lasagna, chili and meatloaf also very good. The sandwiches are solid and very reasonably priced. Two things stand out for me here: their weekend barbecue and the tamales. Someone in their kitchen makes delicious Oaxacan tamales (which are not always available). These tamales are chock full of chicken mole -- perhaps the highest ratio of filling to masa that I've had -- and are neatly wrapped in banana leaves. The burritos are similarly pre-made and stuffed to the gills with the protein of the day. As for the weekend barbecue, every Saturday and Sunday morning they grill select meats from the deli (prime steaks, tri tip, chicken, etc) which you can buy throughout the day at the deli. The Farms also has fresh vegetables, premade salads and all the other items you'd expect from a neighborhood grocery store. Service is super friendly, and there's free parking in back. It's definitely a good spot for a meal to go.
