I was seriously disappointed with this Ralph's. I went with a rather small shopping list. I am used to supermarkets with a fairly extensive wine department. I needed some wine for a special purpose. To say that the selection was limited would be a great understatement. Most surprising, the store had no selection of seltzer water-- a supermarket staple. We all have bad days. It has taken me over a month to get over this one. On Friday, December 23rd, at 6:50 a.m., I walked into Ralph's to pick up a last-minute Christmas present ( bottle of alcohol). I asked the woman who was standing near register 6 if she worked at Ralph's. She said yes, and I told her I needed help with getting a bottle. She asked 4 women to help. The first woman looked at me and kept walking. She did not acknowledge me in any way. This ridiculous behavior continued with 2 more women. One woman stayed at the other end of the store, never saying a word. She put her head down and walked in the checked out area,and disappeared. The other 3 women well one went to the cion machine and watched me, the other went through the door past the coin machine. When they came out, one I thought to be a manager looked at me and went to register 6 with 5 cash bags in her hand. still not acknowledging me in any way. The other women went to the self check out and watched me from the register. The whole time, the women who tried to help me kept asking them to help. I finally left after 10 min of being ignored. Went to Vons were they couldn't be more helpful. This is just a customer service story that I now incorporate when training my staff. Who can't believe what they are hearing. I now go to Vons, which is across the street. I have not been back and encourage my friends to switch also. Bad customer service should not be tolerated on level by anyone. I did call backback and talked to the night manager, who did apologize. Telling me to come back and give them another try,that is not what they teach. It very well could be I wondered for days why I was mistreated. Was it the business clothes I had on, my nationality or the dreadlocs I now wear. Whatever the reason, I no longer go to Ralph's, 3 to 4 times a day. I go to Vons, who seem to be happy to see me. I do not want anything, especially hollow apologies, nor do I want anyone loose a job. Just, Ralph's customer service needs help. Remember, Vons is across the street. read more

I use this store for most of my shopping needs, with that said, I requested 1/2lb. of chicken & 3/4lb. of turkey meat. As you can see the chicken weighed in at .82lbs., the turkey at 85lbs. Is this some type of scam to overweigh the deli meat as this happens on a regular basis, always weighs over what I, as a paying customer request. It was noon on Tuesday 4/24, the clerk who helped me 'beef' up my purchase was a stocky, tom-boyish lady who I specifically said what I wanted twice and still put more in my deli bag than what I asked for. The only reason I will still go here is because Boar's Head is an excellent product, but from now on I am checking the product they hand me to ensure I am not being sold more than what I requested. read more

I moved to this neighborhood 9 years ago, and tried Vons, it was so so, I tried Ralph's, much better, and service is way better. But, recently, they added self-service machines. I don't care if people want to use them, but I don't like self-service machines at supermarkets, I'll never use them -- I hate it when a machine talks to me out loud in a crowded space. So, I stand in line at the grocery counter because that's what I like. When a line got long, at Ralph's a second clerk would always come up and start a new line, and this greatly sped up service. Well, that is no more. Now, they have a second clerk pick off people from the end of the line ( no new line started, and this is significant ) and assist them on the self-service machines. I HATE THIS -and the line is still large. They are no longer allowing 2 or more clerks operating cash registers, in order to speed things up, they are not doing it, and now service SUCKS. Ralphs, you added self-service machines, but you changed your policy on how to handle long lines, and your service now is MUCH WORSE. read more

This is my neighbor market. I walk here but love Vons. I'd like to like Ralph's for connivence. Okay upgrades noted very nice and some super unique products added I love. Customer service is great. BUT it has the worst produce and meat ever! Gross. Produce even if you eat that day shows rot. Open an avocado. I buy firm to avoid this rot at Ralphs but no win here. Same with heritage tomatoes. Worst. I'm done with this again. I bought hamburger meat tonight. Unsuspecting how bad it could be. My wildest imagine couldn't come up with this other than in the DA's office we busted groceries for well I won't get into that. Here is the high end "organic Laura 92 % " lean hippie good stuff. It cost more but emptied the garbage can so can't photo the wrapper for you. The meat was long thick hair hard and course. Or looks like rope and taste like rope. Horrible. I'll take my receipt to manager ask my money back. Will never buy meat or produce from Ralph's. Terrible! I usually go to Specialty or Majors for meat and some farm fresh produce. Farmer market too!Horrible! I had to cut it with a knife in the pan. This isn't my experience of hamburger texture this isn't right. Hard as a rock. Not hamburger not sure what I ate. UPDATE: I did go to the manager today super awesome Michelle W. She refunded my meat money. Also know this I didn't must keep the wrapper and return with your receipt so the store can be reimbursed. read more

I came in last night to buy a few items for dinner...pasta, pasta sauce, baby spinach, dressing..etc it was all easy to find and all within reasonable prices. UPDATE: Came in tonight to get a gallon of milk and something quick for dinner. Stopped at the customer service counter to turn in my lotto tickets. It's exactly 8:06. Some guy came up to help me and the same sales manager (Eileen) from my last review hurriedly walked up and said "nope were not accepting those anymore." The guy helping me said "I didn't know that. I'm sorry" and gave them back to me. I asked her why they weren't taking him anymore, she replied "sometimes we close customer service at 8pm and sometimes we close it later." Mind you it's 8:06 and I had just seen someone leave this counter. I said "and you can't help me real quick" and she said "I just said this is closed. Come back tomorrow." Hm yeah right. I needed some help getting a few things out of my reach and was looking for someone taller than myself to help me out. I waited in line #4, I forget her name but the sales manager was ringing everyone up. I got to the front of the line (after waiting very patiently) and asked for some help and she says "so you couldn't just find someone and ask them? He will go help you." And pointed to the guy bagging groceries (I forget his name but he was really nice; Jason or James?) anyways. I was a little thrown off by how rude she was to me after I kindly asked for help. She had also started ringing in the items that belonged to the person behind me and I politely said "oh those don't belong to me" and she replied "then please get out of line. He will help you." Only go to this store because it's conveniently close to my house when I need to make a quick run. NEVER AGAIN AFTER TODAY!!! The deli guy (with a handicap face) working was a total dick without any customer service skills at all. And the time I've gone before this I had a youngish girl working the registered who felt it was her duty to school me on my feminine hygiene choice of products I was purchasing. Not only has she done this to me, but she has done this to 3 other women I know in my neighborhood. The bums and scums that also hang around this store is getting worse. I will now take the long drive to a decent, clean, no bums and scums grocery store where I can feel comfortable buying whatever damn product I wish without an improper lecture... However, yesterday while waiting to be helped at the floral stand, I absolutely DID NOT appreciate the way I guess one of the managers? spoke to me. I didn't like that she spoke to me all the way from her checkstand in front of plenty of customers, to tell me she won't be able to help us out for a while. And I get it, you're busy. But there's a certain tone of professionalism you need to keep when speaking to ANY paying customer & I don't believe she followed that. Let's just say she's lucky I like to carry & present myself a certain type of way in public, or else I would've happily embarrassed her in front of all her customers. Rude as hell. read more

When I shop here, it's almost always in the afternoons; but all the staff has been personable and friendly. This store is located within walking distance of my home, and I can usually find almost everything I'm looking for. Their butchered cuts of meat are not well-proportioned or even, and oftentimes their better cuts of meat will not be 100% the cut that's labeled on the package. While the bakery has a respectable selection, the more fancy baked goods, such as decorated cakes, are very sloppy. If you can't decorate a cake in a certain style, be honest about it and offer alternatives... don't just stick a 5-cent piece of trademarked plastic on a cake and spray paint the rest in matching colors. Poor selection of prepared fruits, and they always seem overripe. read more

My brother and I were just kicked out of this Ralph's and accused of stealing. We were just walking around shopping when the Manager and a cashier that I deal with ALL THE TIME came up asking us to leave. We asked them many, many times what we did to cause this. He replied "you know what you did" and "we have you on camera". When we continued to asked and tried to talk to them he threatened to call the police on us (This is after we both turned out our pockets and showed them we had nothing.) Then when we left we looked back and every employee in the store is staring out the window at us. This isn't the first problem we've had here. The customer service sucks, the manager is apparently hallucinating. Basically, screw this place the albertsons right down the road is worth the gas. 0/10 read more

I am so tired of the pricing gimmicks. The price for soda said $1.99. The TINY print said when you buy 5. That is so deceiving. If I did that, I would go out of business in no time. So, I didn't buy the soda. Other pricing things are a joke too. They raise the price just to have it "on sale" which is often the normal price. I'm not stupid. I actually know what I pay for groceries. I now have to buy my pet food somewhere else because of their gimmicks. I may have to go to another store. Shame on you Ralphs. Ok now if you want buy liquor at this store you have to wait until you check out and go to the locked cabinets in front of the store. This is a big inconvenience to me the customer and everyone else in line that will have to wait for the cabinet to get unlocked, the clerk to retrieve it from the cabinet, bring it back to the check stand, scan it and then put it in you basket. Ralph's claims it is to stop shoplifting. I think it's because of where the store is located and Ralph's does not really maintain this store in a decent manner. If shoplifting is a problem maybe they should hire security personnel like they have in their downtown San Diego store for the protection of employees and customers. I love buy their Boar's Head Deli meat (turkey breast & pastrami), they always slice it thin with paper layers between the slices. (Just the way I want it). I love their Rottiserie Garlic Chicken, too. I buy their Organic Produce, too. The Employees are always super nice & courteous to me. read more

I went to Ralphs this morning and came out of Ralphs upset. One of the cashier messed up with the cash register machine and she was messing up on my products. I asked her if she is new and she told me that she has been working there at Ralphs for 2 years. I went to pay for my food with my card and was told that I need to pay $5 plus tax cash on the water bottles. I told her that my card should pay for it since I do not have a lot of cash on me and will not pay cash for water bottles and the CRV. She asked the other Cashier about the CRV and the other cashier said that I have to pay cash for the CRV for the water bottles. I told her that is not right and that my card has money and I will pay it with my card. There was never a problem before other months that I shopped at Ralphs till now. I was treated like if I had no money in my card. I left the house with more than $60 in my card to Ralphs. I was given problems for more than 10 minutes before they resolved everything. The second cashier had to also step in and help the other cashier. I will not say thier names here to protect their privacy. I will never go to Ralphs again. I am through. That is for sure. read more

On May 5 I was shopping, for the last time, at the Ralph's grocery store in Escondido on Valley Parkway when I came upon a guy with a DOG standing up in the shopping cart. Hey, I put my groceries in there, or at least I used to. This guy wasn't obviously handicapped so if it was a service dog the guy must have had it for 'moral' support. But regardless, if you're so bad off that you need the constant companionship of some mangy mutt at least make it walk. The dog and his master were in the bakery department directly in front of the clerk/baker so I guess they thought it was OK. The University of Arizona recently did a survey of grocery carts in four western states and found 72% contaminated with FECAL matter! Well mystery solved. read more

Had to comment on today's experience. Was waiting in the line of a cashier I recognized but somehow another cashier stepped in. I was having problems with my atm card and it just wouldn't register. We attempted several times which was my mistake. After the 2nd attempt I should have stopped and gotten back in line. Cashier kept saying (rather flatly) "try it again" and I finally gave up. I apologized for the delay and the bag boy was so sweet and kind. I was so embarrassed that I didn't catch his name. I went back to the car and got my other atm card and returned to complete my purchase. On my way in I ran into the cashier who had helped me. She had her purse on her shoulder and looked like she was headed out. I caught her eye and cheerfully said "Im back. All good now!" to which she mumbled "oh. my. GOD..!" I was shocked at her response. Clearly she fakes a persona for the register but as soon as she's off the clock her true colors show. She's an older blond chunky woman named Traci or Staci who single handedly ensured that we will no longer shop here. So sorry that Ralph's management hasn't coached this woman to her potential. I will be sure that I let everyone I know who continues to shop here to avoid her line because she clearly doesn't enjoy her job. Such a shame that one bad egg can destroy one's years of patronage in one brief moment. Being in customer service means you are in the spotlight and represent your company at all times but especially ,at minimum, in the vicinity of your workplace. If you don't like where you work, go elsewhere and find your passion. Life is too short for you to take your unhappiness out on your customers. We're here because of you and you're here because of us. Let that sink in and marinate a while... read more

I love this place. Their store is always clean and well stocked, plus the cashiers are incredibly friendly. Every time I come here I have at least my twins with me and they are very helpful and accommodating--offering to find things for me, unload my cart, etc. I got a cake decorated for a birthday party during my last visit and when I didn't really like the end product, they readily offered me a brand new one of the same style; no arguing or justifying. Though their prices are a little on the high side, this is my favorite grocery store in town! read more
