I came looking for Hotwheels and found a section of the "silver series" that many other stores dont have, so that was super cool, but besides those there werent many. I would definitely come more if they sold more Hotwheels. It is a little sketchy here at night though...there were lots of homeless folks lingering outside the front entrance, pulling around multiple bikes (probably stolen because let's be real...no one owns 2-3 bikes per person). read more

I like to use curbside pick up because I have a very busy schedule with little time to cook ,much less, go grocery shopping. There have been a few times I order something organic and they end up giving me the regular item that's cheaper and not organic. Ive had to go into the store to switch them out. Defeats the whole purpose. And on top of that, there's this lady who often drops off my groceries and is just very rude. I try being nice to her and I just get attitude every time, so much so that it led me to make this review. She's ruined the experience for me and I have decided to go to another store for my weekly groceries. The other guy who would sometimes bring my order is very nice and respectful. They don't have any carts or hand held carriers, not in the corrals or stalls.. I would be surprised if they had 10 total throughout the store and a few of those are utilized by workers. Today I was overcharged, I bought 3 six packs of beer and was charged for 5. I was not given a receipt because the cashier ran out of tape and couldn't print it. Doris, who is amazing in customer service showed me where to find it in the app. I got home and saw the overcharge, went back and the lady at self check out apologized and credited the card. Every time I stop here on my very short lunch break, the deli/bakery has one person and they ignore you because they are cutting meat. No problem, I'll grab a pre made sandwich. That sandwich costs 9.00$ and was made two days ago - yuck!!! I bought all the stuff to make my own sandwich and asked for a packet of mayo - you have to wait...... such poor customer service. The front checkout counter staff are very nice and helpful. Add a star for them. Otherwise, the store is unkempt, cluttered and in need of a deep cleaning. The items in the deli counter look old and crusty. We bought some seafood salad that looked ok but was tasteless. I sampled the tuna salad and it was all "miracle whip". There are people walking around the store panhandling. A middle aged gentleman approached us in the aisles and asked us for money. My review is for the bakery. I ordered a 5" smash cake a few days before my son's 1st birthday party. I was kind of last-minute on this task and only gave them a size and a vague idea of what I wanted. The cake was ready on time and was super well-done and cute! I really wasn't expecting it to be as cute as it was but it was adorable. My son loved every bite of it and we eventually had to pry it away from him because he was really ready to eat the entire thing in one sitting. The total was only $10.99. I think this was the first time I've ordered a grocery store cake, but that's an amazing price in my opinion! We shop here a lot. It's always clean. The shelves are well stocked and we love their produce department. I cannot exaggerate how well stocked they are in the grocery, meat, frozen, dairy, and produce sections. They have a huge selection of beer, hard alcohol, and wine too. They also have a seasonal aisle very close to the checkout; I couldn't tell you how many times I've rushed in just to grab a last minute Easter, Valentines, Independence, Christmas, etc item. You can tell a lot by a store's departments by how often they are used. Aside from the grocery department, the produce department here shines the brightest compared to the bakery, deli, and meat departments. The Deli is limited to the basics; Salami, Ham, Turkey and Roast Beef. There is never a line at the Deli counter, they don't even have a number dispenser, but they do have the light up number sign hanging up.... If there is ever a day the Deli begins to get business, they'll be prepared. They have an assortment of prepared foods (probably because the prepared stuff sells better). We have bought their whole rotisserie chickens, they are a hit with our family. This department also has a cheese cooler/case that has a pretty good assortment. Did I mention their wine aisle? The meat department's meat cooler is large and stretches from the back of the produce section to about half way across the whole store's back wall. Their butcher display is small though, so is their seafood cooler. We get packaged meat here (ground beef, chicken cuts, pork, etc), but we don't really use the butcher for fresh cuts. The Bakery is a mess in my opinion. Usually there isn't anyone there. If you are determined to use this bakery, you can go up front and get customer service to make a call, but the person who shows up is usually caught off guard and is just helpful enough... If I've ever needed a cake personalized, it's like they got one of the baggers to rush back and perform the job. The person can barely find anything, rushes the job... it's just a mess. I've been here in the mornings to get donuts and the case is empty. Saying it's a bad bakery would be going too far, it's just not a dependable bakery. Their breads, pies and cakes are well stocked. I overall like this store, it meets our basic needs for groceries. I grew up in areas where people really loved the deli, butcher and baker... sadly this area of Escondido is not like that, and this store is proof of that. Last Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, in the late afternoon at the Vons 330 El Norte location, I was stopped going out because I was getting 2 more bags. I had asked the check-out person for 4, only gave me 2. The manager with brown hair in a ponytail stopped me and wanted to know if I paid for them. I said I didn't know, I asked for 4 but only got 2. She made me pay 20 cents for the two I guess I wasn't charged for, even though I asked for them. Very embarrassing. Go there a lot, poor customer service. read more

Becky in the Floral department is phenomenal!! She greeted me with such intentionality, served with a smile and was just the nicest person I've ever met! This is for the lazy lady in the bakery who ignored us for 10 minutes and then up charging the cake I bought. We first pulled up to the bakery and she was doing a task which is fine I didn't care to wait. She makes eye contact with me, continues to do her task and then walks to the back for an additional 7 plus minutes. I went to ring the bell even though I know she had already saw us there waiting. She comes out and I let her know what cake I wanted. Keep in mind I worked for Vons in the bakery before I know the prices and the items. I got a petite lemon bar cake. She goes to the back and prints out a tag. She charged us for the large one. I didn't notice until I got home and saw the $20 dollar tag on a $12 dollar cake. On top of that she had a bad attitude and acted like I was an inconvenience to her. Terrible. She needs to work or find a new job read more

It was so weird, I would not believe it myself. I told the cashier man that I don't need any bag for my purchase. He told the bagging lady the same thing and she said "I know" with an attitude while getting two bags and bag my stuff in with. Today, the supervisor named Sam B was "working" at the self checkout lane. If a customer presses the help button at self checkout then an employee is supposed to come over. He completely ignored me and when I went up to him after to show him a coupon from the app that was supposed to be applied to my total, he tapped on my phone screen so hard! My hand even went back. I was shocked! Then he told me "why'd you pay for it if you knew the discount didn't apply?!" With a rude tone. Then he sent me to wait in line at a cash register. Why is he even working there if he doesn't like to and doesn't want to work. Why would he even tap my phone to look at the coupon if he wasn't going to help me himself? Need to give an update as things have not improved here despite "Dawn" who replied below saying she would talk to management. Where to begin.. When a new season starts the seasonal items don't go on sale, they just get rid of them, for example the day after Halloween they removed all the candy and replaced it with candy canes! We're talking November 1st. Sale items often don't reflect at self-checkout. Today Ben and Jerry's ice cream was supposed to be 2 for $6, mix and match as advertised on the items. When I got to the register they rang up as $6 each and after bringing this to the manager's attention she did not care or offer any sort of apology. Ended up leaving with only 1 item. Self-checkouts are a mess, half of them were down and it was an extremely slow process ironically. Overall I will not be returning to this Vons. read more

When I walked up to the counter to buy bacon the two men were discussing the Bible. My wife said to me, "there's a lot better books than the Bible" and both men said "no there isn't!" I was uncomfortable. This shouldn't be a topic at my grocery store with the staff. I was very uncomfortable and reported it to a manager. I need to stress that the rest of the staff rocks! Walked in looking to buy a cake but all they had were chocolate cakes. We needed a white cake. This was the Thursday before Superbowl weekend so I knew the stores were busy. I went to order one but the gal in the bakery told me that she could have one ready for me if I waited. About 5-10 minutes later I had a beautiful cake, fully decorated with the flowers I wanted for my nieces birthday. I can't say enough about this stores top notch customer service. We are temporarily in Escondido while moving from La Mesa to the Bay Area. We always try to find grocery stores within walking distance from where we are for many reasons. Unfortunately, this is the closest store to us so instead of keeping up our tradition, we will be driving to a different grocery store for the remainder of our time here. We have been several times now and were waiting to see if it was an off day or three; however, two weeks and 4+ trips in, and I now firmly believe that this store chooses to hire unfriendly and unhelpful people. From the bakery worker who seemed bothered by a simple question of where to locate an item, to the cashier who spoke not one word until he muttered our total, to the self checkout person who was rude and seemed irritated the entire time he stood by us while we were checking out... everyone is just unhappy. Just, why? There are so many people who could use work right now. If you are blessed enough to have a job, be happy about it. If you choose to work in the service industry, be polite. We make frequent trips to the grocery store instead of one big one a week. Not once did we have a pleasant experience here. Sometimes when you are new to an area (and grocery store) you may need help finding items, or help using a self check out register OR may just appreciate being asked if you found everything you needed. They used to have somewhat good card deals but those are few and far between now. Then they use to have okay $5 Friday deals. Nope.. I do most of my shopping at Sprouts and Costco these days with a stop at WinCo occasionally. - This location is notorious for long lines in the evening. - They do have a growing probiotic drink section. This place has lost its ability to bring a variety of cakes. You pay nearly $10 for a small dish of imitation crab meat, the prices go up nearly 25cents on the things that I buy here. Why pay $7-$10 on a bag in ice when you can go to Food 4 Less and get it $2.50. If you are a military family, there really is no incentive in coming here at all. The place is under new management and since then the environment has changed drastically. Why waste your time. read more

Been coming to the El Norte location for years and I've seen a decline in customer service, specifically the night crew. Besides the larger man that's a supervisor (he's been excellent btw) the rest of the employees appear to be bothered by doing their JOB. The self checkout froze midway through scanning. No one was there to assist. The short Latina woman with dreads (apparently a supervisor as well) looked over, saw the light flashing but walked away. When the cashier at another lane called for her, she still did not come and instead stood at the far register looking through paperwork. I'm not going to assume what her priorities are, but customer service is a large portion of the job. I've had encounters with this same woman before and was given short, rude, not helpful answers. I stood there waiting for several minutes before I flagged down another employee. This woman rolled her eyes like somehow I'm inconveniencing her! All she said was, "I need to reboot the system, you'll have to recheck all your items, sorry," and walked away. I had many items already scanned so instead of risking this experience again, I packed up and moved to an actual checkout lane. This same employee, comes over, sees me waiting and asks another customer if they wanted to move into a newly opened register. Why wouldn't you ask the person that just had to repack all their items and move to another lane?! Reading through the reviews on here, besides "our sincerest apologies," Vons management do better and hold your staff accountable to higher standards of customer service. read more

For some reason this store is constantly out of a large number of items. If I go to the upper Vons, they have those items in stock. It's got to be a management issue.
