Fatty Tuna Nigiri

Visited Raku on a Sunday with no reservations. It was a very large restaurant on a busy street but it wasn't busy. There were only 2 of us so we were seated pretty quickly. The server came around pretty regularly and she was attentive enough. I know I ordered toro nigiri but I don't remember the exact roll. The nigiri was DELICIOUS but the roll was not. I'd come again for the nigiri.

Weather was fitting for comfort food and our appetites were ready. The place was clean and aesthetically pleasing. Our servers were nice, attentive, and patient in giving us time to decide what to order. We enjoyed the bowls and the dessert was amazing! We're definitely coming back.

I came here with some friends after a great concert at the National Cathedral, and overall we enjoyed parts of the meal! The croissant pudding dessert is definitely a huge highlight. However, there was a significant issue with freshness. I had a salmon sushi roll, and it tasted like the fish had been sitting out--not the best feeling for a sushi spot. The gyoza also had a sauce that did not taste fresh. I hope to give it another try!

My friend and I came here on a Saturday night and it was super busy! A good sign :) and with that, service was still good. The ambiance is also super cute - we were in the room with the hanging, changing lights! We both got wine and sushi and thought it was all delicious and fresh. Probably one of the more "quality" sushi fish that I've had recently. The primary downside (in my opinion) is finding parking nearby. It's a bustling area, so just expect that when you come to Raku!

Sunday night dinner and drinks were amazing! Our server was quick with checking in with us to make sure we had everything and that we were enjoying our experience. The restaurant is really beautiful with a collection of bottles diving the bar area from the main dining area.

Bento is just as lavish (if a bit overpriced) as before. The sashimi that came with the bento box is fresh and delicious. The grilled octopus / shrimp salad is fantastic (first time trying it). Beware there are small bones in the cod (eat slowly!) We ordered on their own website, and food was ready in a timely manner. I miss their previous bento box (the actual, beautiful box). They have gone cheap since the pandemic. Just an ugly plastic box. No Japanese bento box charm any more.

We had a great affordable dinner here, party of 7...service was great. The vibe of the place was very much fun Asian fusion. (The bathroom sink was particularly creative lol.). You will certainly be happy if you order the sushi, Nigiri, and the rolls. Soups are also a great choice. My brother ordered the Bibimbop and that looked pretty good, along with an Asian spin on Calamari. He ate every bite. My husband ordered the big bowl of red curry soup. It's great for someone with a big appetite. Very filling for $15! It was nice to be able to either order a full meal, or to eat lightly. No pressure. There were specials available...all very interesting choices. The rolls were very fresh and well done. When my daughter wanted one more roll, she ordered mid-meal and it arrived quickly. Appreciated the overall presentation and the way things were plated. If I recall- Raku was founded by west coast (Berkeley CA) chef Mark Miller. I'm a big fan of Mark's southwestern cooking. I enjoy his Asian fusion menu as well.

Chanced upon this spot which is a sister restaurant of the more well known Rakuya resto due to its strategic location at DuPont circle. Raku offers a slightly different menu and has lunch specials featuring seasonal items. I got the set meal from the regular menu as I simply can't say no to Unagi. The Unagi is pretty fresh and tastes better than the one I had at Momo cafe.

Had an absolute feast at Raku tonight. Everything that I had was absolutely delicious and prepared very quickly. For the sushi rolls, I'd highly recommend the black snake and the red dragon. The nigiri was scrumptious--and the portions of fish relative to the rice very generous. The dessert (chocolate cake) was also very good. Overall, I would highly recommend this place and will be back again.

Charashi Udon combo

Love this place. Their udon is nice chewy- like the bubble tea chewy in a good way. The rice that came with chirashi is slightly warm which give a nice contrast to the fish. The veggie on top give a nice crunch when eat with fish and rice. Last but not least the tamago and the fish roes on the rice also bring out the sweet from the egg and salty nice flavor. 5 stars for food , ambience, price. Service was ok .

Food is reliable but service no so. Orders delayed. Watch out for local thieves when eating outside. My purse was stolen.

Excellent service, the food was great and not outrageously priced (considering the area), and looked amazing inside! The decor and the lighting is makes it a cozy and intimate place but also great for a large party as well We booked our experience during restaurant week, we love trying out new places and their restaurant week menu offered a little bit of everything. We got some champagne to start, ordered some cocktails after, and the food started rolling in. We started with a caviar bump, and moved into the beetroot salad (which was amazing and so flavorful, we both wanted more), had the Tataki/carpaccio style followed by the nigiri/sashimi, then for the main course - the winner/volcano lobster roll. We didn't want our night to end there, there were so many great options in the menu so we opted to hold off on our desert and ordered some more food We got the sushi dinner dish to share along with the lavender smoked salmon Tataki style. Definitely could've eaten more after but decided to end our night after that, and had our ice cream to finish the night (matcha ice cream and raspberry sorbet) The service was 11/10, our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and all of the other waitstaff was extremely kind and was more than willing to help us with any questions or things we needed. The restaurant was very clean and they had nice bathrooms. The quality of the food was amazing and every dish had us hungry for more. This is definitely a place we'll be coming to again and will be recommending to everyone

As first timers, the menu is really overwhelming. Great for those who want a lot of options, but a lot of the rolls' descriptions were very similar. You are definitely paying for the vibe and ambiance here.

For anyone seeking actual good sushi, I'd recommend looking elsewhere in Georgetown. The service was polite and the location was great, but that just can't make up for the food. The fish lacked the freshness and quality I'd expect even at a casual spot. The rice was bland and the rolls felt more like basic grocery-store sushi than something made with care. Portions were OK for the price, but the ambience was spartan and the overall experience fell short. I don't like being negative or writing bad reviews but Khin's truly is average at best. It might be okay for a college student looking for something quick and cheap, but it is not a legitimate sushi restaurant in the traditional sense.

I was happy the menu was digital or I would've looked like an old lady with a flashlight trying to read the menu. The happy hour was menu had lots of options. I got the tuna tatami and Amazonica roll. Both were delicious. For the drinks they only had 3 options and a selection of wine or beer. The drinks were a pisco sour, a lychee martini, and a japenese whiskey drink called the umami. I lived the pisco sour. The lychee martini was also tasty and was a popular by most of the patrons at the bar. Now I will talk about service before I skip to dinner. The bar staff was not very friendly. It is a small bar but the beginning of happy hour was pretty slow. I got there around 5. They make great drinks and when the kitchen brought out the wrong thing they did correct it but it's not a staff I would strike up a conversation with. They get the job done. Being seated was very difficult. The bar is so tiny, the host were pretty rude about where you could drink your happy hour drink. Even going so far as to tell a group of ladies they had to literally stand behind the people sitting at the bar. It was just very awkward and uneccesary. We also closed our tab with the bar but they refused to seat us and made us stand by the door and finish our full glasses before they seated us. I just have never experienced that. Dinner was tasty. I highly recommend the churasco roll. We had the salmon squares, hamachi yellowtail, another amazonico roll, and the ceviche Mercado. The ceviche is also delicious, highly recommend. Alll the fish was very fresh. The flavors were unique and the dishes were so interesting. I would definitely still recommend this place. I think it's great for a date night and if you can get to happy hour early enough to grab a seat. Grab your friends and try to make it to their R&B night too. The hosts if the night introduced themselves at every table and were walking around checking on everyone.

Why are they understaffing this place?!? Especially at the prices. The cocktails are actually pretty good, though the wine list is uninteresting. It's a fine spot if you're looking for a quick meal in Georgetown, but it's not a destination spot by any means.

I remembered a review in the WaPo when it opened said that Onggi had a spa like atmosphere -- I was in! The lunch menu has several options, but it appeared everyone in the dining room had the lunch combo for $38. I was craving soup, so I got the short rib soup, but my dining partner got the combo. However, dinner caused me some issues: I got glutened. My partner and I went for my birthday dinner. I had been wanting to try Onggi because I love Korean food and their menu says that it's been crafted to avoid gluten. They say that only the asterisked dishes are not gluten free. But I got glutened. Even though we didn't order anything asterisked and I let the server know that I have celiac. My partner has been trying to reach the manager to find out what had gluten in it. But even with multiple calls, he can't reach them. (Not a good sign.) We wanted to be able to say in the review which dish had hidden gluten, but since we can't have a conversation with anyone there, all I can say is stay away. If you do try it- and I understand why you'd want to- avoid the vegan bulgogi. I just have a sneaking suspicion that's what did me in. But the menu said it was gluten free, so--?? Also, go sometime when they aren't too busy. We were there on a Saturday night and I think they might have only had two servers on (with multiple table support staff). There was at least one large party, plus the regular tables, and two servers were not enough. It was very difficult to flag someone down and double check our meals or ask our server anything after they started to get busy.
