We are absolutely thrilled with our experience with Rainier Rockeries! Our project was a 2-tiered retaining wall, about 25ft long. Overview: I started by sending pictures and a description of the job I wanted done. Angel responded saying they could do the job and he could come by within the week to check out the area and provide a quote. Angel's quote was similar to the others I received, BUT he was bringing an excavator when others would have been working manually. That means he could get the work done quicker without cutting any corners! The Estimate: Angel gave me an estimate, we agreed he'd get the job, and we signed some paperwork to that effect. He told me they'd be able to start the first week of November, and that's exactly what happened! There was some delay because of weather, but Angel was excellent with communication and made sure I knew what was going on. He wouldn't want to start digging when it was wet and the base of the retaining wall wouldn't be stable. The Work: The team of 2 that did most of the work were great. We couldn't believe how much they got done the first day! Angel came by at least once every day of the project and made sure that the project was being built the way we had talked about. When something wasn't going to work, or there was a better way of doing something, Angel would stop progress and either explain why, or ask if I had a preference when there were options. The People: Angel is great. He is very personable and cares a lot about doing a great job. When he gives the estimate, he shows off recent jobs on his phone, and he beams with pride. He stopped progress once to ask me about an idea to build steps down the side of the retaining wall. We love it! We appreciate that he didn't just take the job and do it, but he thought creatively as the job progressed -- like an artist. His crew are professionals and did a fantastic job. The Money: Of course you want to know about the money. Every job will have its own considerations. If you try to get 5 companies for a quote, 2 won't respond, and 3 will show up to give you a quote. Rainier Rockeries will show and be competitive. Not only that, but Angel tried very hard to keep the price of the job at the estimate he gave me. He threw in some fill dirt, gave me a discount on extra blocks outside the scope of the job, and pulled out some tree stumps (which would have been way too hard without the excavator). He didn't change the price on me at all, even though it cut in to his profit on my job. He is happy to sign documentation when a payment is made. I hired Angel and his team to build a retaining wall with drainage to stabilize our backyard and collect rainwater from neighbors who all channeled their water to us. Angel gave us a free quote (I had to pay for some other quotes) that was ~2X cheaper than the next quote. The quality of work is great, all chipped blocks were discarded instead of being put into the wall, and the wall is very aesthetically pleasing. The steps are also great, everything is very sturdy. Angel and his team also fixed some broken drainage that was improperly sloped, and I just verified in the most recent rain we got that the drain is working much faster than before, which is great news! Angel and team also left my yard cleaned up and without any trash, which I really respect and value. They also listened to all questions/concerns I had and were very accommodating, never did I hear that something was wrong or not feasible. They were very professional and very amicable. --- I found Angel based on all of the 5 star reviews, and thought no way could a business have all 5s. I had a failing retaining wall and a sinking patio that needed, at the very least, new material under the current pavers. I also was in need of a new run of stone stairs to said patio. These guys are amazing - period! I had a really hard backyard job on a 40% incline, in a small space and overgrown with ivy and other PNW flora. Fortunately for me, I hit it off with Angel and we shook hands on a backyard project focused on converting my space into a cute outdoor retreat. What I really liked about Angel is his attention to detail, his ability to visualize a space, and provide his opinions. Other contractors just came in expecting engineering-grade plans and just wanted to get the job done. Not Angel! He pushed me to think outside the box and I'm so glad he did. His team was prompt every day, worked their butt off hauling material to my inclined slopes all by hand! No heavy equipment could make its way back to my backyard but not once did they complain. They took care of every single detail, from cutting pavers to hit hard corners, cutting rocks to ensure safe use, and cleaned up after the job was done. Rainier Rockeries was recommended to us by a family member and overall we are very happy with their work. Angel was super helpful during the planning process, bringing over a variety of books and sending photos of some of our material and design choices. He was helpful at selecting pavers for the driveway, rated for vehicle weight of course, as well as some lovely pavers for the backyard patio and stairs. The patio project was not your run-of-the-mill job. We have a sloping backyard with lots of tree roots which they had to work with to create a level seating area. They also had to do it all by hand since we couldn't get large machinery through our gates. We couldn't be happier with the work that they did and we know they were meticulous in ensuring that the work was done properly. The front driveway was the hit of the neighborhood as people walked by and said it looks great. It turned out beautiful. I agree with the previous review; communication was frequent and clear. After six bids we decided to go with Angel and Rainier Rockeries. Frankly it was a hard choice because they were one of the the lowest bids and with few reviews we were a bit nervous. I asked them to come over a second time to go through the bid and to spend a bit more time with them. Angel was upfront about being a new company and being hungry for work which meant to me they had a very good incentive to do well. I admit that I went a bit on a feeling and I was glad I did. Simply put we couldn't be happier with how it all turned out. We have two active dogs so our main goal was to get rid of the mud while opening up usable space for entertaining. In addition we wanted a place where we could plant, come Spring so with Angel's help we designed a dog friendly outdoor space which we love. One of my pet peeves when dealing with contractors are the lack of communication skills. It drives me crazy when your life is uprooted and you have no idea what's happening next. These guys were great. I got a call or a text every day to discuss how the project was progressing, suggestions he had and when they would be at the house the next morning. Not once were they late even with record breaking rain in Seattle. Seriously there was no negative in any part of the project. We paid exactly what they quoted with the exception of a few add-ons which they invoiced separately so we knew what the cost was. These guys are amazing. I had Angel come out to give me an estimate on my project. He came back with a very reasonable quote, I almost didn't believe it was right. We decided to do a portion of our project with his team. We had them put in a retaining wall in our back yard, level our yard, and put in some new sod. Their work was outstanding!
