I hired Cedar County Landscaping to come out and do a landscaping project at my house in March 2020. From the start, the staff was very responsive. After a visit from a project manager, we received an estimate on the costs within a couple of days. On the day of the project, the field team arrived on time and completed the work in a timely manner. Upon completion, the team leader made sure I was ok with the project and he went over what we needed to do to care for the plants. This project was not cheap, but this is not my area of expertise, so I felt it was money well spent. I also new the importance of taking care of the new plants and got to work doing so. We had 8 plants total planted. After about 1 month, we noticed that one of our plants was not thriving. No matter what we did. All of the other plants around it were doing well, but this plant was dying. I wanted to give it another month to see if it would come back, but it did not. The plant was dead. I called Cedar County Landscaping to inquire about a warranty to learn that they do not warranty their plants. I was a little frustrated at first, but once I started talking to Kristin at Cedar County Landscaping and learned why this was so, I understood more. And, in fairness, it is noted in the contract I signed, but I did not remember that. Kristin, and the Management at Cedar River Landscaping still offered to replace the plant and have one of their team members come out to my house to replace it. I really appreciate that they were willing to go the extra mile to provide excellent customer service. These guys have no idea whatsoever what they are doing!!! They were hired to do landscaping and leaf clearing from our property and the landscaping looks like Stevie Wonder did it.... with his GOOD eye!!! HUGE patches of grass were missed while mowing and our shrubbery has been butchered!!!! To top things off, they blew the leaves into the street and covered the storm drain with them so that the street flooded and I had to go out in the pouring rain to clear away the leaves so that water could pour down into the drain!!! They were not only supposed to clear the leaves away but they were supposed to haul them away as well. They did neither and tried to charge me for work they didn't do as well as the horrible work they sort of did. If you want the blind leading the blind and Dumb and Dumber doing your landscaping, then by all means call this nightmare of a company. We recently wrapped up a big backyard reno project with the team at Cedar County and couldn't be happier. We added three large block retaining walls, a french drain, new stamped concrete patio, new fence, fire pit, garden bed, rock digging box for our kids and plantings/landscaping and it turned out better than we could have imagined. They were quick to provide a quote and came back competitively priced with all other landscaping and contracting companies we had also talked with. They started the project on time, provided updates along the way and finished on time (not to mention our project was during the dead of winter and the team worked super hard in rough rain and windy conditions!). Ulyses was professional and had fantastic design ideas when we were stumped on which way to go. He visited on site multiple times to check the status of the project and was always available for questions. His foreman, Fernando, and his crew showed up bright and early and were so friendly and always took the time to answer our questions. They kept the work site very clean and always made sure to tidy up at the end of the day including leaf blowing/washing the driveway/etc. Their main office was always responsive to emails or phone calls and between all the additional items we added along the way they kept their invoicing straight and accurate. Jesus, who was the estimator and project foreman, initially came out to look at our yard and provided a detailed estimate. After agreeing to move forward with the project, Jacob did a great job of communicating with us to get the contract signed and scheduling. A few days later Jesus and his crew showed up on time and did a great job of installing the walkway in one day as promised. Their work was fantastic and they also did a great job of cleaning up. Do NOT trust this company!! We recently had them work on our front lawn and landscaping and were pretty disappointed in the quality of the finished job. They butchered several shrubs that were not trimmed as requested and the edging was very crooked and rough. They also did not honor their quote for doing the backyard and tried to DOUBLE the cost!?! Needless to say, we did not proceed with that portion of the project after everything else they did wrong with the front. Their customer service was terrible too, with the estimator (Dylan) lying about what we had agreed on and their supervisor/owner refusing to even talk with us to help resolve the issue. Thanks to my backyard neighbor's unconfined bamboo edging ever closer to the fence between us, I needed a rhizome barrier installed before spring brings new growth. I decided a small paver patio adjacent to my deck would be a nice addition, too. Cedar County Landscaping did a great job installing both, and even weeded and smoothed out the entire planting bed when they were done installing the rhizome barrier. A few weeks after the work was completed came "snowmaggedon." All that snow didn't help the sand to settle in between the pavers of the new, little patio, but Jon has already set a date (in warmer conditions) to remedy that problem. I'm so satisfied with their commitment to excellence that I'm making a small list of other work I may have them do. I most definitely recommend Cedar County Landscaping! Cedar County installed two sets of stone/boulder steps for us, as well as placing some other boulders in our yard. The communication process, estimates, and billing all went smoothly. Workers were professional, polite, and cleaned up after themselves very well. They listened to our original plans and then listened as we adjusted. They made it happen how we asked them to. Some very incidental damage occurred, but it was understandable, and more importantly, it was fixed perfectly. They want happy customers, and it shows. Foreman communicated very well, and the office stayed in touch during the project, too. Cedar County built a retaining wall for me through my construction company. I provided a level line placed with a laser level. I stressed the importance of the wall being built level which would be a natural assumption regardless. We were building a fence immediately adjacent to the fence that would show a non-level condition. This was stressed to multiple supervisors. The wall has over two inches of fall in it as built. A workman like installation sees the blocks stacked point to point. This walls points are all askew significantly impacting the appearance. They failed to follow the manufacturer of the block instructions and the terms of the contract and failed to dig the blocks into the existing grade. They simply poured out gravel and started stacking blocks. They tried to walk away from the job without back filling with gravel or even dirt. The job is not complete until the wall has been properly filled in. Their payment policy is overly aggressive. They insist on payment the day they finish dissalowing time for inspection of the project and a reasonable time to assess. As a licensed contractor I find engaging with them to fraught with hazard and I would certainly not think it wise for the layperson to attempt business with them. I do not recommend. read more
