I had such an amazing time in Boston, but what made my birthday special coming to rainbow pottery studio. I love that everyone was so welcoming and sweet the music you definitely will catch a vibe from R&B to jazz to pop. The studio also offered champagne and assortment of wine to indulge wile you bring your inner artistic touch to your pieces. Unfortunately I couldn't pick up our pieces but the owner expressed that it wasn't a problem and she would shipped our pieces to us. Mind you were in Maryland so thank you thank you this place is a must. read more

We were SCAMMED!! We paid $115 for Taylor Swift pottery night including wine, dinner, pottery painting, and Taylor Swift music and trivia and there was NO wine, NO dinner. NOTHING. We were utterly disappointed and we were unable to be refunded. So upset with this customer service and overall experience! Would not recommend this to anyone!!! Not only was the entire experience disgraceful but my vase came out of the kiln CHIPPED!! This was a 0/10. Sorry, but everyone needs to know to pick another pottery place. read more

I have been to the store twice and it was a great experience both times. I found Drew to be a great representative of the store and the brand - he was patient, polite, and did a great job of highlighting the work of the studio. The first time in I purchased one of the pre-made MBTA mugs. I gave it as a gift and got rave reviews. On this visit Drew informed me of the opportunity to have a personalized product made. When I went back to inquire about this on a second visit, Drew was again knowledgable and gave me all the necessary information to connect with Allie. I'm now into the process of ordering some personalized mugs. I think this is a great store and encourage others to check it out. I also want to give kudos to Drew; it was based on the great experience the first time that resulted in my returning to the store and now planning to buy additional products. read more

This place was completely whack, the girl working who i guess was the owner was SO rude i was shocked. A man associated with her, she knew and referred to him by name, FOLLOWED me and my friend out of the store and we had to hide behind the registers of lululemon because he followed us in there. Traumatizing. Idk what he was going through, i have empathy for whatever that situation is, but the owner took it out on us while we were in the studio. we just left the place after trying to ask her questions because her responses were so crazy. You guys need a wake up call to figure it out. read more

I've never written a bad review of any establishment but I had to after my experience. I had made a reservation a week prior and got a text from Drew the day of asking if I could come in earlier because they planned to close the shop early that day. I obliged as it was not a big deal. 30 minutes before the newly arranged time I get a text from Drew asking if I could reschedule to next week as they are closing the shop even earlier. Very unprofessional and inconvenient but things happen, no problem. I asked Drew if they could give me some type of discount for the inconvenience and here's his response. "You're already getting a discount from your deposit. We have a family emergency to attend at 9pm." I have never been to the shop but don't plan on going anymore due to lack of professionalism they clearly show to their prospective patrons. read more

The BBB should be alerted about this business. I think that they prey on unsuspecting people and tourists. We were walking by and they said to my kids, "do you want to paint something?" And then a half hour later, I'm supposed to pay over $200 for studio fees and small gaudy clay figures, called toppers I think. I did end up getting some money back, but the man working seemed surprised that the owner green-lighted the refund, so I have a feeling that people complain a lot, and refunds aren't common. It felt like a carnival scam. read more

I recently visited Rainbows Pottery Studio with my partner. We'd wanted to paint pottery at this business for a long time and finally had the time and money to make an appointment. Right off the bat, I felt slightly uneasy with the sales staff's (Drew) demeanor and pushiness. Even after we sat down to paint, he kept pressuring us to come to several theme nights the studio was offering. It took Drew a long time to set us up because he constantly ran outside to heckle people on the street. I initially brushed all of this off and tried to credit him for being a good salesman. Only a few days after our experience with Rainbows Pottery Studio, I became very uncomfortable and needed to write a review. My partner and I ran into Drew in front of the business on the 4th of July while walking down Newbury Street. He was outside with the pottery items for sale, trying to convince people to come inside and paint. He immediately recognized us from a few days earlier and engaged in conversation. Drew was heavily intoxicated. His speech was slurred, and he asked if we wanted to have a beer with him, which we declined. Drew asked if we wanted to come out with him later, which we also declined. Then he made several bizarre remarks about a family looking at the display. Keep in mind this interaction occurred at only about 5:00 in the evening, and it was clear that Drew had been drinking for several hours beforehand. Usually, this wouldn't bother me, but it was very busy in the area, with many families and children stopping by. My partner and I went online to read the reviews of Rainbows Pottery Studio after our experience, and we agreed that many of them aren't surprising after having been there. The overall vibes were very shady. Drew was inappropriate and overbearing. I was very uncomfortable that he was so obviously drunk at work. The painting process was fun, but my experience with the sales staff overshadowed the event. There are cheaper places to do this in the area with less drama and more professionalism. read more

I don't usually leave reviews but this place really deserves one. A friend and I came here on a whim just to look at their pottery pieces and got convinced to sit and paint for a bit. The pottery pieces they have are adorable and so we thought--why not? We sat and did some painting for a bit and then got up to finish and pay and got hit with a price tag of nearly $250 total for the two of us to paint two small pieces. Included in that was a $50 service fee and for shipping--$36! (When the piece arrived in the mail, the postage said shipping was only $11, so what is that other $25 used for ON TOP of the huge service fee??) While the pieces came out nice, the price was just not justified. The prices aren't posted anywhere inside and they didn't let us know about the pricing ahead of time. What really made this experience 1-star was the lack of professionalism and communication from the employees. When we were there, we saw one of the employees running out to innocent folks passing by to try to get them to come in and it just felt very unprofessional. The employees also made some offhand comments and assumptions that were quite rude while we were there. Once we were done, they said our pieces should be ready in a few days and that we'd get a notification when they were ready but we never got notifications that they were ready or shipped out. The also messed up the shipping address which led to the piece almost getting sent back. Overall, do not come here and don't trust Google reviews. read more

Lots of red flags here. There is a total lack of transparency regarding pricing and the entire experience would likely come out to $150 per person for a small piece. Pottery selection was eclectic and nothing was labeled with a price. Management seemed disjointed, best to take your business somewhere else. read more

Lovely, beautiful shop. My two daughters and I had a great little hour painting our mugs. I take full responsibility for not clarifying pricing, it's completely on me, but dear god. $463 was not what I expected. read more

DO NOT GO HERE, if I could give -100 stars I would! The owner Allie is EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional. I paid $200 for a session to have clay and make my own items. She micromanaged and criticized every single move I made and then when I asked a SINGLE clarifying question she LOUDLY YELLED at me and said I wasn't allowed to ask questions. She insulted me many times and I left crying. read more

First time review of yelp and this business really had me reeling today. Lack of transparency about pricing. Should have asked, but how much could pottery painting cost?! I've done it before at other places. One mug with my 4y/o cost $90?! That's absurd and and extra $26 if I want it shipped. read more

So incredibly overpriced, as the pricing was not transparent at all. Ended up paying $150 for 2 little pieces. The guy helping us was creepy and there was no ventilation in the studio, causing it to be 100 degrees in there. After I went, I realized that there was a huge controversy about this studio in which the owners were deleting the bad reviews of the place, it's all over Tik Tok. I am never coming back. read more

I had an upsetting experience. I paid for a two coffee mugs that I never was able to pick up. The man that worked there said that both our pieces broke. They never refunded our money. The total cost was about 160. They also offered my husband and I wine, bringing the bill up to around 215. They were very rude to my husband on the phone and verbally abusive. They gave us the run-a-round and said they had no record of our purchase ? First their system was down. They told my husband they would call us back and we never received a call. This happened in early June. We were very disappointed to say the least. read more

SCAM ALERT. I don't even know where to begin with this review. I walked out of this studio so angry at what had just happened to me. First and foremost, the pricing of the pottery you will paint is not listed up-front on the website, before you go. There are not even price tags once you get to the studio, so you must ask how expensive pieces are. The prices are OUTRAGEOUS for unpainted pottery which all is labeled "MADE IN THAILAND" on the bottoms. (Which definitely means the studio pays around 2 cents per piece from a wholesaler like Alibaba, and then charges you 5000% which all becomes THEIR profit.) The exorbitant pricing ranges from $20-$200 PER PIECE, with small trinkets (the size of a clementine) costing $30-40 and mugs costing $60-80. THAT'S ABSURD! You are given no forewarning about these costs going in. But you're trapped into the scheme because you MUST PAY a DEPOSIT of $35 JUST TO BOOK TIME AT THE STUDIO. You may think this covers your cost to sit there and paint, but you would be sadly wrong. They charge you a "Studio Fee" when it's time to pay your bill, which is an extra $60 per person ON TOP of your non-refundable deposit. This studio has made so much money SCAMMING people that they're actually opening a new location on Newbury St, which is where I went and they hadn't even fully moved in yet when I got there. They made everyone doing pottery that day sit in an UNLIT, NON-AIR CONDITIONED BUILDING for HOURS and didn't even offer us water. When I suggested getting waters from down the street, the man working there told me that he would get some for me and my friend, which I thought was very kind, UNTIL HE LANDED ME WITH THE BILL FOR WATERS ON MY FINAL BILL. DO NOT GO HERE WHATEVER YOU DO. This is an absolute scam and I'm so sorry to have a place like this in Boston, a city that I've lived in for so long and loved. Don't be falsely led here just because Chris Evans promotes this place because it is owned by one of his cousins. I am ashamed that they, whoever they think they are, decide to run this business like they do. This was the worst experience I've had living in Boston, and that's sad because there are plenty of great things to do in this city. I will absolutely tell everyone I know to stay far away from here and will NEVER recommend this place to someone I care about. Please learn from my bad experience. read more

Very overpriced. I never leave bad reviews. Easily $100-$150 depending on which item you paint. The pottery items aren't labeled with their price. Most of the workers didn't know the price of the item. Very confusing pricing model. read more

THIS is EXACTLY how a small business should be run. Allie is smart, efficient, communicative, and thoroughly knowledgeable about all things pottery, art, and design. My kids and I made an appointment to come in and paint a mixing bowl, and we found the atmosphere to be kind, courteous, welcoming, and engaging, and we are looking forward to going back at some point in the near future. I highly recommend Allie's studio if you are looking to spend some time with your kids or just want to enjoy a creative bit of peace and quiet on your own. read more

Saw this place had a lot of bad reviews but I had a mostly good experience so I'll share my impression. To me there was pretty clear communication on the price of everything. I did not feel like it was ever concealed to me that there would be uncharges on additional items. I thought it was a bit pricey. I've done these kind of pottery places before so I knew that your paying for the experience not the value of the cup your actually making and its going to be a 100$ per person but as long as you know that going in its fine. This place I think is a bit of markup even compared to other pottery places but its on Charles Street so thats kind of to be expected. So to be clear if you are looking for a cheap activity this is not it. Price aside my experience was good. It's a pretty studio. It has good pottery designs. I was not rushed. I think they are a bit aggressive in trying to upsell you there and the owners have a chatty vibe which I enjoyed but I think might grate on people who want to be left alone. Overall I found them pleasant and the 4 or 5 upselling attempts in the 2 hours I was there more amusing than annoying. I'd recommend it read more

We had a great time with our daughter and her friends. The attention we received was wonderful and the owner was so attentive. Recommend.

I almost never leave reviews BUT-These people are SCAMMERS!!!! There are no prices posted anywhere and then they claim a little spoon rest is over $100!!! NEVER come here! read more

DREW IS AMAZING! We just went for our anniversary and had an amazing time. We will be back and hopefully drew is there!

I truly cannot believe how poorly this business is run. Paid lots of money and was promised things that were never delivered. The owner and staff are full of empty promises to get you to spend money there and they never intend to deliver. The owner is extremely hostile. Upon arriving to the event, she immediately started complaining about legal issues opening a new location. It was just completely inappropriate and off-putting. She yelled at my friend at one point and started accusing her of behaviors that simply were not true for no reason. The best way I can describe these people is they are scammers. That's how they keep this business running. Absolutely avoid them at all costs. read more

I was initially really excited to go here on a date so I reserved the time at the base reservation fee for two. No where in the site did it indicate that the fee I was paying was not our paint fee but rather a deposit, and we both had to pay $30-40 for our time on the studio on top of already ridiculously expensive and basic pieces -- didn't even know until the end. The worker insinuated it's his moms shop and he was awkward and a bit rude. The best part was he suggested us going to grab a bottle of wine to share and said they charge a small opening fee for having it in the shop. "Small fee" of $30 I later heard him relay. After, I received a weird and demanding call to pick up my items immediately. I would not recommend going here for fun to my worst enemy unless you enjoy wasting money and awkward tension. read more

Came across this place shortly after moving to Boston and decided to make a date night with my boyfriend. I was told it would be around $35 per person, which felt reasonable, and then was told to pick our pottery pieces. First red flag--pottery prices are not labeled anywhere. We were told the smaller items were cheaper so we went with smaller options. We didn't know the pieces would be wildly expensive despite being so small--like, i could just buy two-three mugs at target for the price of one unpainted mug there. That plus a studio fee (unknown to us) made the total cost somewhere around $200 for two people to paint relatively small pieces. Kind of insane. The experience itself was very fun and a cute idea, but theres no way it should be $100 per person. I have looked into six weeks of pottery classes before and that was about $150-200 (in which you would obviously bring home many more pieces) so there isnt much of a reason why it should cost this much aside from their location. When i saw the total amount, i kicked myself for not being more persistent in asking about pricing, but i also felt that the studio deliberately conceals costs. After reading reviews here, it seems im not alone. There arent stickers with prices anywhere on the pottery nor is there a price menu in the store. Where did the studio fee even come from? The only reason im writing a review is because a manager asked me very directly to give them five stars as they had been "cyber bullied" on trip advisor. That was intriguing and cased me to wonder why they might have been "cyber bullied".....unfortunately it seems that these 1 and 2 stars are justified. Advice to management: while your pricing is kind of insane, it is newbury street and youre allowed to charge what you want--HOWEVER, what people are most upset about is your lack of transparency. Honestly i still probably wouldve painted at your studio knowing the prices, but without transparency i felt scammed. People will still shop from you if you make your pricing clear, and you wont be taking advantage of people. Until then, people interested in a cute and reasonably priced painting experience should stay away. read more

This business is incredibly over priced. You get charged a reservation fee, a studio fee, to paint the piece, and if you want a cheese board it's $60 for the manager to go to Whole Foods (he admitted this is his process). I also find it disturbing and fairly creepy that the manager saves people's personal cell phone numbers and continues to contact them after they've finished their transaction with the business. read more

Hannah is the best and so fun to talk to!! Great experience :) Lots of options for colors and pottery, cute interior!

Came earlier this year with a group of friends and ended up paying over $100 to paint a not so large piece. Prices are not openly communicated beforehand. Upon further reading, it is quite transparent that the owners delete valid negative reviews. We shall see how long this one stays up, but the business model and practices of the owners could certainly use some improvement. read more

this place is a scam. we were pleaded to come in the store. when we each decided to paint a mug that was that. THEN when it was time for checkout they charged each of us (me and a friend) 50 dollars for a "studio fee" which we were never informed of, and each piece of pottery was also 50 dollars! this doesn't even include the tax and shipping costs. id like to note no where in the store were their prices listed otherwise i wouldn't have painted this here. i am a student who wanted to do something fun with a friend only to leave with empty pockets. 140 for paint your own pottery is absurd. and not listing prices can lead to legal action. misleading and taking advantage of customers is what this establishment does read more

I never leave bad reviews (or reviews in general), but was surprised at the number of positive reviews given how poor my experience was. It makes me wonder whether these other reviewers were incentivized to leave positive feedback. Looking through the reviews, I can see the studio manager (Drew, or "Andrew" in his review) is one of the reviews, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are others from friends and family members. This studio is insanely overpriced for the quality of the experience. This studio does not follow Boston's mask mandate and in fact actively lets customers know they do not need to have a mask on while inside. Drew seemed very angry while we were painting and even ended up breaking another customer's finished piece while we were there. I'm sure he was overworked as Allie was entertaining her friends at the studio (were not painting). Like several previous reviewers, my pieces were not ready by the date shared by Drew and Allie and I was not informed until after I traveled all the way to the studio. I would not recommend this studio and caution others to do their research regarding the positive reviews. read more

I have never written a poor review before but I feel like I have to share my negative experience for awareness. Firstly, the pricing is falsely advertised on the website. It says that the $35 sitting fee is for 2 people but it really only covers 1 person. Additionally, the pottery is priced very high and the pricing is not listed anywhere in the store. Luckily, I knew that the prices varies per individual piece so I picked one that was $38 (the cheapest/smallest option). When it was time to check out I was charged $90 when I should have been charged $73. There was no explanation for the additional $17. The women working was also on her phone complaining to someone for the first 30 minutes we were there which was very unpleasant to listen too. She also uses celebrity name dropping as false advertising. Lastly, before picking up my piece I texted an image to the owner of if my piece was ready for pick up and if I can pick it up at a certain time. She confirmed it was ready and I could pick it up. I drove all the way to find out that the entire store was closed even though it was during their business hours and I had checked in advanced. The owner didn't apologize for the inconvenience nor did she offer any solutions. Painting pottery is one of my favorite pastimes so it is a bummer that this was such an unpleasant experience. I do not recommend going here at all. read more
