We had so so so much fun learning basic pottery from Phie. Coming in with very low, humble expectations of ourselves was the way to go, because imagine our delight when we actually created two very useful & decent pieces of pottery! Definitely mostly due to Phie's incredible teaching & patience. They absolutely have a knack for teaching. The clarity with which they explained every step, paired with visual examples & lots of cute encouragement ... It was a masterclass in teaching, as well as pottery. Cool spot for a studio too - right on Newbury Street. I can't wait to come back for our pieces after they've been fired. Maybe we'll try our hands at another class again, too. read more

Took a couples pottery class with Maya and had a really good time. It was a two hour class and we were able to make one item on the wheel, paint them, and then both had time to make one item by hand. Maya was super helpful, guiding us on what to do, but also fixing our many mistakes. She showed us different inspirations for how to decorate and options for the items we could make too, which we appreciated. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun group (or solo) activity! read more

On the 2nd floor on Newbury Street, right above Ten One is a newlyish opened pottery studio. It was my first time throwing on the wheel and I had a lot of fun. It was definitely challenging but our instructor Julia was very knowledgeable and helped to coach is through the steps as well as step in to fix any mistakes we didn't want. Once you choose what you'd like to make (bowl/mug for beginners) we were off to the wheel. Julia was able to explain proper stance for throwing and explained step by step of centering the clay to getting rid of any air bubbles to widening the piece. My friend and I decided to try throwing a bowl. For beginner classes, the instructor will keep the wheel spinning, so all you need to focus on is the actual throwing portion with your hands. It can get quite messy with the slip getting on your hands so definitely don't wear anything on your hands or wrists. The throwing process took us most of the time and we have about half an hour left to paint our pieces with colored slip so they can be waterproofed and used for eating. We did feel a little rushed towards the end but managed to finish in a timely manner. The pieces take about a month to get fired and glazed, so keep that in mind when booking a class. Overall, a great experience and they also offer membership classes if you want to continue learning or are more advanced and need a studio to throw pottery. read more

Toya and Phie were amazing! A really fun evening with friends! I went with my young adult daughters - unique was to spend time together!

I booked a class over a month in advance, paid the deposit, and my wife and I took time off work as this was a birthday gift. The studio was closed, with no signage and no communication. We waited outside in freezing temperatures with no answers to any texts or calls to the studio. Finally after multiple unanswered calls and texts at 10am, I did not receive any message until around 3 PM, hours after the class time had passed. The person stated that the studio had been closed due to technical issues and that administrators should have notified me, but that they "probably missed" my reservation. No apology and no refund. they not only stole money from the deposit but also ruined an entire planned day. No response back to my answer and needed to report the charge as fraudulent. This experience wasted time, money, and what was meant to be a special occasion. Be weary about going here especially if you are expecting it to be open read more

1 Star - Completely Ruined a Birthday Night I came here with a small group of girls to celebrate my best friend's birthday--her first birthday in the city since college. We wanted to do something different and fun, and pottery sounded like the perfect experience before a night out. Big mistake. From the moment we walked in, everything looked great. The space is well-presented and welcoming at first glance. But once the class started, the attitude completely shifted. The service quickly became cold, rushed, and honestly disrespectful. This was meant to be a fun, lighthearted birthday activity, yet we were made to feel uncomfortable for simply laughing and enjoying ourselves. One staff member actually told me they "couldn't help us" if my friend and I kept laughing--during a birthday outing... at a pottery class. Let that sink in. There was no chaos, no disruption--just friends having a good time. Instead of creating a welcoming environment, the staff made us feel like we were an inconvenience. It killed the vibe and completely took away from what was supposed to be a special night. If you're looking for a warm, celebratory, or beginner-friendly experience--especially for a birthday--I would strongly suggest going elsewhere. A fun night turned awkward and uncomfortable, and that's something we won't forget. read more

I was incredibly excited for my birthday pottery session, but this ended up being one of the worst customer experiences I've ever had. From the moment we sat down, it felt like our instructor, An, simply did not want to work with us--especially my boyfriend. He barely engaged, avoided eye contact, and acted visibly annoyed any time we asked a question. When my boyfriend's clay collapsed (which is normal for beginners), An initially refused to get more clay, and when he finally agreed, it took around ten minutes while he chatted with a coworker. It was uncomfortable and honestly humiliating. Meanwhile, we watched the couple beside us having a completely different experience with another instructor, Phe. She was warm, encouraging, attentive, quick to help, and clearly invested in making sure they enjoyed their time. When we commented to An that she seemed much more engaged, he simply said, "You want her to take over? Okay," and walked off. Phe then had to manage two couples at different clay stages, running herself ragged trying to give everyone the attention they deserved. She did an amazing job, but the tone for our night had already been ruined. Even the other couple could tell how poorly we were being treated and tried to help lighten the mood. The situation escalated when I tried to calmly tell An how disappointed I was and how mistreated we felt. Before I could finish, his coworker jumped in defensively, claiming that we were the problem and had "pushed back" on instructions--something that simply wasn't true. We were beginners trying our best, asking basic questions, and trying to have a fun experience. Things got heated, and the staff's reaction felt shockingly unprofessional and aggressive. At one point, police were threatened, which felt wildly inappropriate and, to us, extremely upsetting given the dynamics of the situation. To be clear: Phe was wonderful, and she genuinely tried to salvage the experience. She deserves recognition for her professionalism and kindness, and I now understand why so many reviews mention her by name. But overall, this was an upsetting, stressful, and deeply disappointing way to spend my birthday, and I cannot recommend this studio based on how we were treated. If you do go, I strongly suggest requesting Phe as your instructor--and I sincerely hope management addresses the behavior we experienced. read more

Amazing experience today. Took my two children 9 and 5 for a relaxing Sunday. Did hand work and the wheel. Very chill. Actually had to reschedule and everyone was incredibly accommodating. Sophia, Russell, and Julia are experts teaching all levels. My elder daughter was pretty experienced and eager to recreate a piece of art she lost in a move - huge thanks to Sophia especially for making the experience extra special for her (and redeeming mom!).
