Avoid this business!! I really do not recommend this place. The owner does not know enough about ceramics to be running a pottery business. She falsely advertises services and then harasses clients when they ask questions about products that she cannot answer or that contradict inaccurate information that she provided. I was initially excited to find this spot and was told that I would be able to work with specific clays/glazes. Only after investing a significant amount of time and money did I realize (through calling her distributor) that she had lied (either intentionally or through ignorance) about the type of clay she sold me and the services that her business could provide. When I tried to talk about this with her she immediately started to yell at me over the phone and rant for more than 15 minutes about how much she loathes my generation, which was really strange because I just wanted to talk about the pottery and clarify questions specific to the clay. I expressed this and was told "honestly I'm not trying to learn something new every day. Like I'm not trying to figure out what the meaning of pi is". This made no sense... She then hung up and later called me at home to continue ranting and screaming at me. I genuinely cannot believe this happened, I have screenshots of the messages and have friends who listened to the phone call and it is clear that the owner is not only unprofessional but can be incredibly unkind. This is not a welcoming space. If you search the reviews on yelp you will get a better understanding of this business and its practices. Lastly, the owner and business have a very elitist attitude and I heard her make multiple comments about money, prestige, etc. and how other pottery business attract clients that "she wouldn't even want here". I recommend you go to these other pottery businesses instead. I do not recommend going here and hope that the business changes for the better in the future and are more educated and transparent about their practices. read more

Interesting how yelp reviews and Google reviews are drastically different. My 8 year old and I went in and paid an astronomical amount of money for pottery that we could have gotten elsewhere for $50. This was $290 for an item that can fit in my hand. Of course they don't tell you this until AFTER you paint. THEN the pushy sales guy (who weeks later was ousted as a registered sex offender) tells me we will hear from them when it's ready. Usually 2 weeks. Made no statement about a deadline for pick up. We ended up very sick for a month and I actually tried to call the place a few times. Not once... at least 3. No answer no way to leave a voicemail. I called the number listed on their business page. Finally months later I am finally able to get to Boston as we live far... learned that they got rid of our very expensive art project. Likely sold it on their tables that they had it on Newbury Street. She compared her shop to other places where other places so unpack up at work. I'm pretty sure that's what they do too. I already thought that this place was a scam The second I paid $300. She has the balls to tell me that I was wrong, and then she always answers the phone and kept saying "I begged to differ" and then have bigger balls to tell me that she would cut me a deal. Have me pay $45 to do a different art project whatever we wanted within reason and it was busy at the time she made me write down my email and she told me that she would send me an email about this. Not that I would actually give them any more of my money but she never emailed me and this is the one who said that she always answers the phone because she's a stickler about that and that she always responds to people because she's a stickler about that too so this place just blatantly lies about everything. read more

My experience at Rainbow's Pottery Studio was incredibly disappointing, primarily due to a lack of transparency around pricing and an uncomfortable high-pressure sales environment. I selected a small dish, about 3 inches wide, assuming the cost would be reasonable based on its size. At checkout, I was shocked to learn there's a flat rate of $69 per person, and with additional fees, I ended up paying $82 for this tiny dish. When I later asked about the price, I was told it was because the dish was "handspun," yet there was no labeling in the studio indicating this, leaving me feeling misled. To make matters worse, the overall atmosphere felt pushy and sales-driven. I was constantly asked if I wanted to buy extras like T-shirts, alcohol, and baked cookies, even after spending $82 on my dish. This high-pressure approach detracted from what should have been a relaxing, creative experience. When I expressed my concerns, the owner called to apologize and claimed prices were posted in the studio. However, when I returned to pick up my pottery, I couldn't find pricing information anywhere. The owner also told me that I got a "good deal," but $82 for a 3-inch dish is absolutely not a good deal in my opinion. This lack of transparency, combined with the pushy sales tactics, made the entire experience unpleasant. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this studio. read more

This place reminded me of "dicks resort" you know the place where you pay to be treated badly on purpose ?? If you have 100 bucks to spare ... you know what ? I would say go. .. Make sure your cameras are on though. Drew and Allie are like a bad acid trip. She is a real piece of work. I have her on "audio" If she didn't have a kid I would totally put her on blast. I recorded our phone call by a mistake because I just got my iPhone 13 .. In this recording she kept calling me homophobic names as well as racial slurs .. and names were so bad if I wrote what she said the review could not remain as a review .. you guys... it was that bad .. if you want to bring your kids to show them how not to be when you grow up ??? this would be the place .. It will teach them just because things are pretty on the outside .. doesn't mean they are on the inside .. If you want to teach your kids an example of what catty, fake .. pretentious, mean girls are like this place is it !! But do me a solid .. just go with a knowing smile .... they are so fake it's almost comical.. I'm always up for a laugh .. and this place will have you rolling .. so I say if you want a laugh and something to do on a cold winter day in Boston when there is like literally nothing else to do .. go here !!! read more

I actually cannot believe this place hasn't been shut down yet. Not only have I heard the most horrific stories about how the owner, Allie, treated her customers (see other reviews below- they're not lying) but i've ALSO had my own horrible experience. this woman has acted erratic in my experience and it's really not a joke anymore. you can have a good time there if you'd like to paint overpriced pottery and fakeness, sure, but she will get at you whenever she wants and whenever she can. and yeah - there is so much fucking fakeness behind her 'kindness' because she needs customers and i've known plenty of people who have befriended her overtime and she's given them straight up horrible experiences - whether it be staff or not. She has also PUBLICALLY expressed support for DONALD TRUMP. Please save your time and ur wallet and - go to Clayroom or another pottery place that's not only inexpensive but has morals and proper customer service. Sure, this place looks pretty on the outside - but absolutely take it from me and these other customers. You've been warned. And Allie, please just be kinder. NO ONE HAS IT OUT FOR YOU. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO BE ACTING THIS WAY IN YOUR ADULT AGE. Or better yet, go to therapy. We all beg. Wish you luck. read more

Rainbows Pottery Studio is truly something special. From the moment I walked in, I could feel the kindness and warmth that Allie and her team radiate so naturally. There is an unmistakable sense that they genuinely love what they do, and that love shows in every interaction and every piece they create. What makes this studio stand out is how deeply personal the experience feels. Allie and her team approach each custom piece with care, thoughtfulness, and heart. Whether they are creating a menorah to celebrate a child's first Hanukkah or carefully curating a meaningful piece for someone who has just lost a loved one, the intention and compassion behind their work is undeniable. The positive energy in the studio is constant and uplifting. You can feel that this is not just about pottery, but about connection, comfort, and creating something that truly matters. Allie and her team have a rare gift for turning clay into something filled with emotion, memory, and love. Rainbows Pottery Studio is more than a creative space. It is a place where kindness is felt, stories are honored, and beautiful pieces are made with genuine care. read more

This was so insanely overpriced and the majority of the fees that made it that way were accrued through things that one would think would be free, or at least less expensive, with such an expensive base fee. All together, painting two small mugs was about $250. Tiny additional decorative pieces for the mug were $26/$30 a piece (not mentioned or labeled). Mimosas, which were offered along with water and coffee, without mention of any additional fee, were charged. We were told we would be contacted when it was time to pick up - 5 weeks later we hadn't heard anything and started trying to contact. It took another 3 weeks to actually get the mugs. Being in the studio was also pretty uncomfortable with the manager talking to us continuously (to the point where our party couldn't really have a conversation between ourselves) and giving each person in our party a long schpiel at the end trying to get us to buy products made by the owner and her friends. Not even remotely worth it. read more

Last Wednesday, I had the most amazing time at Rainbows Pottery Studio on Newbury Street in Boston! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We were lucky enough to receive personal attention from the owner herself, who was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. Her staff was equally fantastic--always attentive, encouraging, and happy to help with tips and ideas for our pottery creations. We spent a few delightful hours painting, letting our creativity flow, and even made some new friends along the way. The studio has such a vibrant and fun energy, making it the perfect place to unwind and share a creative experience with others. This is a place I can't recommend highly enough. Whether you're looking for a unique outing with friends or planning a team event, Rainbows Pottery Studio is an ideal choice. I can't wait to return and bring more friends along to share the joy! read more

I am glad I didn't read earlier reviews prior to our day painting pottery on 9/17/23. The day couldn't have been better! I set this afternoon up with the owner for my buddy's 65th birthday. She was so warm and easy to work with. When we arrived, she greeted us by name and with hugs, had a sign hanging from the window, announced to everyone that my friend was having a birthday, and at the end of the day, even led the singing of Happy Birthday! We were welcomed, got a brief orientation, and simple instruction. The young lady who was an assistant was great, and checked in on us (unobtrusively) throughout our stay. The vibe was great and we had a blast! I thought the pricing was fair -- it's about the experience, not the size of the item you chose to paint. I thought it was a great value and a very positive experience. I highly recommend Rainbows Pottery Studio! read more

So I have to be really honest, my college bestie owns Rainbow Pottery.. For 20 years, she's been telling me all about & completely went over my head. I have 0 artistic abilities & was clueless. Then one amazing night after so much fun @ the Red Sox game, friends and I saw the store and was blown away!!! 1st of all I'm so proud of Allie, she's not only the best person & Mom I know but also runs the most incredible business. I sent to my 11 year old daughter & was a complete game changer for me. Never seen my daughter so excited, she had the opportunity to work with the ever so talented & cool Faye..... My daughter has never smiled this much & so thankful to Allie & her staff!!! The whole family vibe w/ her incredible daughter, Maggie working as well is heart warming. Thank you Rainbow Pottery, you bring more joy then I could have ever imagined!! 5 Star All the way! read more

Rainbows Pottery is an absolute gem in Boston! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with warmth, charm, and a sense of creativity that's contagious. The studio is beautifully located and has a unique, inviting atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. The owner is truly one-of-a-kind -- incredibly friendly, deeply caring, and a master at building relationships and community. Her passion for the business shines through in every detail, and she treats her staff with such kindness and respect. It's no wonder my daughter fell in love with the place and is now proudly part of the team! Prices are reasonable, and the experience is priceless. Whether you're a seasoned artist or just looking for a fun, relaxing activity, Rainbows Pottery is the perfect spot. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a joyful, creative escape in the city! read more

This was one of the best experiences I've had so far in Boston. I was originally going to catch the commuter rail at 7pm but missed it and I stumbled across this place and wanted to kill some time. I didn't know what it was so I asked and I said I was interested but I didn't think I would have enough money so the employee Faye called the owner and I was allowed to have a large discount on the cost and was able to paint a large mug ($70 to $40). The employees are very friendly and accommodating. They even offered to set the music to what I would like. There is a huge selection of pieces to paint here and there's a nice view of Newbury Street you can have while painting. I picked up my piece recently and it's great! It seems like the reviews here have a gripe with Drew but I had little to no interaction with him so I can't say much. read more

I dont know how to express my absolute disgust of this place. Everything was bad from start to finish. I came here in hopes of having a memorable time, and have some souvenirs to show for it. my goodness. Racist, rude, microaggressions, unprofessionalism, I could go on and on. DO NOT TRUST Google reviews, they're all by family and friends and the bad ones are deleted (so I came to learn)- Allie, whew, Allie...!! I'll leave it at that! colored folk, this ain't your place, take your coins elsewhere or you might end up going on off at somebody! real talk. don't even try it! they out here swindling folk out their money on overpriced painted dirt mugs. ITs NOT WORTH IT. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!! Google reviews are NOT reliable! I wish i'd known this coz I went off darn google! don't do it. read more

I recently visited Rainbows and had an amazing experience. The studio is located in Beacon Hill and has a charming ambiance. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They were knowledgeable about the different types of pottery and were able to offer guidance when needed. The studio was well-equipped with all the pottery tools required to create beautiful pieces. The studio also offers a wide range of pottery products for sale. I was impressed with the quality and variety of the pieces available. The prices were reasonable and I was able to purchase a unique piece to take home with me. Overall, I had an excellent experience at Rainbow Pottery. I would highly recommend this studio to anyone who is interested in pottery or looking for a fun and creative activity to do with friends or family. read more

This is THE ABSOLUTE WORST PLACE OF BUSINESS I Have EVER Been A Customer Of. The owner is The Worst Business Person I Have Ever Had The Misfortune of Meeting. She charged me for multiple items I was never allowed to take home. She also served and sold alcohol well after normal store hours. During this time she insulted my friend and I with multiple Racist, Homophobic And Transphobic Epithets. She also repeatedly espoused her Extremist Right Wing Conspiracy Based Nonsense And Absolute Devotion To Her Idol Donald Trump. These things alone should disqualify her from Ever doing business in The City of Boston. Whether it does or not I plan on contacting the Boston Police and The Boston Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission for Her Clear Violations Of The Law. read more

I'm running the Boston Marathon this year in support of a local Boston organization, and I reached out to so many local businesses for donations and raffle items. I understand that so many businesses are inundated with requests, but you'd be amazed at how many just don't respond. One of my colleagues and a few of her girl friends had spent an afternoon making pottery at Rainbows and they had an awesome experience. She said the atmosphere was so welcoming and fun and suggested I should reach out to the team to see if they'd donate. I connected with Allie and the warmth I felt was instantaneous. I've never been to Rainbows Pottery Studio, but I'm grateful for their kindness, generosity, willingness to support the Boston Community! A true Boston gem! read more

Really lovely studio with great atmosphere! Staff and owner are so friendly and helpful! Also a great spot for gifts and accessories made by local artists! I've seen negative reviews about pricing - while it is more expensive than some other local competitors it's a completely different atmosphere, and the price also seems appropriate given the Newbury Street location. Paint your own pottery pricing was very clearly displayed upfront at the entrance, and all of the earrings/small goods seemed appropriately priced for handmade items by local artists. For the local artist goods in comparison to other boutiques or galleries on Newbury street the pricing is very reasonable. read more

If I could leave -5 stars I would. I saw an absolutely disgusting comment on instagram from this account, telling another woman that she "should be denied oxygen" for not aligning with her political views. I thought at first that this must be a mistake, that she accidentally commented using her business account instead of her personal. But after reading these reviews it's pretty clear that the owner has no intention of hiding her insanity for the business sake. Very sad for a woman-owned operation to have such hate in their hearts and display their MAGA-ness in the manner that they do. Do not give any money to this place. Read the hidden reviews too ;) read more

The owner is a straight lunatic. Beyond crazy. Borderline Personality disorder to a tee. Maybe if there are no issues you might possibly have a nice experience albeit a very expensive one but if there are issues and the crazy comes out, BEWARE! She and I were texting back and forth like no business owner EVER should. Then she sent a picture of herself in her underwear to my husband and said I bet your wife doesn't have an ass like this. There is literally not a single solitary nice thing I can say about this woman. How on Gods green earth she is still in business is mind boggling. RUN don't walk to any other business but this one. read more
