Corporate greed bushiness model. Unlike most businesses in Arcata it's very clear that this small franchise is much more interested in it's own expansion & upholding their unreasonable & unwavering policies than they are in their actual costumers. Many aspects to the business make this apparent: inconveniently limited office hours, no billing statement, no option to receive change back at their kiosk, exorbitant rates for persons with disabilities to be able to access any units, paying in full before services are actually rendered rather than after - with potential late fees even for those services not yet received, costumers are asked not to sort/organize their storage items while on the premises (?), complicated & tricky wording in their overly involved contract. Wording that is referred to condescendingly if you attempt to reason with staff at any level. Such as your "due date" stated is not actually your due date as with most most businesses, you actually need to heed your "pay through date". Any late fees are confusingly (I guess cutely) referred to as your "10 day grace period" which starts not from your due date but your pay through date. I was in their office (during their restricted hours) with contract in hand trying to pay for services in full & remain a customer, as well I placed a call to the general manager. I was attempting to pay a $10 bill remaining from downsizing a unit the month prior. I was told I could not even make my payment without covering $22 worth of their taxed on fees. Leaving only the option to adhere or be subject to yet even more taxed on fees (for a $10 remaining bill) or face lock down of all items then to be sold. Note, everything mentioned here all taking place within a month's time frame; relocating unit, billing, attempts to pay, fees, my inquiry, threats to place a lien (on some baby clothes & Christmas decorations? ha!) & were I not to cease business w/ them, then also the afore mentioned consequences w/in the month. That amount of bullying & threats for such a simple service just really is unnecessary. I've noticed also much to the customer's increased inconvenience that their own vehicles are very frequently parked inside their gated area blocking ability to easily access the units, rather than parked in their parking spaces outside the gates. I see it's apparent here on yelp that if a true, accurate review is left then the business asks someone to leave a nice personal message to attempt to redeem their reputation. So I'd expect to see that soon, but I wouldn't buy it. They should spend that time actually becoming a better business. I will say that a staff member was kind, so that was appreciated. I forgot to mention that I had previously requested to have my billing date moved to best accommodate getting them payments rather than an arbitrary date of when I had originally opened a shared unit that I was no longer utilizing. This request of course would've required more money. They would like to call payments late when in fact you are paying in advance. Any notices claim, your bill has been paid in full & became due the next day. Became due the day following full payment?? Wish I would've thought to read previous reviews. This company employs abusive, insulting people and does NOT honor their own contracts. They will hold your property ransom until you pay whatever they demand or they lock you out of the facility. The office staff is beyond rude, over weight blonde at front desk, spoke down to me and LAUGHED at the fact that they only permit paying customers to use the outdoor port-o-potty. I stood there with my 2 yr old daughter in utter shock that she would treat me that way. I left to wait in the car as my husband defended me. This was just the beginning of our mistreatment from staff. We went online to pay our first monthly bill and we read our contract to ensure we weren't past our grace period for the late fee. As stated in our contract, our bill is due on the 28th of each month, grace period is given till the 8th of the following month, tens days. We logged on to pay bill on the 8th and saw a late fee had already been added that day. We called to inquire and re-read our policy on dates of fees and were told the last month had 31 days instead of 30, so they use the 10 day rule and disregard the dates written on our policy by their staff. They flat out refused to remove the fee and we had no other choice but to pay it. We also had a previous debt to them from ten years ago when my husband moved which he paid in full 3 weeks prior to this payment, he had a signed receipt stating that the debt was paid in full and removed from our account. However, when we looked online to pay this bill there was also a new fee for $18. The lady we spoke to told us, I made a mistake, you owed us more and you have to pay to be in good standing with your current rental. What could we do??? We HAD TO PAY both fees in order to get to our property! I have used Uhaul storage facilities several times in the past and never have I been treated disrespectfully or had contract issues. The whole experience from start to finish has been an absolute nightmare and I can't wait to move out!! read more

THE ROTUND BLONDE who normally works at another office location was front desk in the Eureka office the day I came in to pay my bill. From the start, any possible interaction she HAD to engage me was served up to make a person feel pathetically stupid, when I asked for a receipt since I paid in cash, which should not even need be requested by the customer, RB response was along the lines that it is not the norm of cash paying customers and once again, stupid, here is that receipt you need...this was the first stop of my day of errands and dealing with RB was like slamming on the brakes of a really marvelous energy day and being catapulted then slammed face first into solid rock. There is not complaints of crooks, stealing or anything business transactions but WHY DO YOU LET A NASTY IDIOT WHO HATES LIFE AND ANYTHING THAT HAS ONE REPRESENT YOUR COMPANY?!!! Over the past 6 years of renting a storage unit, Rainbow increased my monthly cost 40%!!! Never been more relieved to say Buh-Bye to the consistent price increases BUT seriously overjoyed to not have to deal with the meanest, rudest bullying females who work the office! I suggest the office workers to record themselves when talking on the telephone for a day and listening to your voices full of rude, hatefulness the public get served up! It is apparent you are miserable at your jobs and it starts at the top manager and infects every single one of them. General manager Kim is childish and disrespectful. Her arrogant attitude gets in The way of her customer service. She refuses to offer any explanation or helpful information. "Manager" Becky was even worse. They tricked a developmentally disabled man into signing a new contract and paying $210 only then to insist he owes an additional $170 before he can access the unit... they keep the doors locked and insist that you call and give a valid reason for needing to enter the building...even lock the door behind you when you are allowed in....discrimination is how they run their store front. I felt the staff at this company is extremely rude. One lady laughed as she directed my wife to the port - a - potty. After being given a receipt that clearly said my account was "PAID IN FULL"... I was billed an additional $18 and some change. The explanation I was given was that I was not charged enough interest on the account. I would highly recommend anyone to take their storage business elsewhere, especially if you like being treated with respect and using a real toilet. I was extremely disappointed, offended and slightly disturbed by what I witnessed with this company. read more

This company is actively discriminating against people of color and those with medical conditions. They have written illegal contracts which explicitly attempt to revoke and modify California rental policies regarding mini storage laws which they then enforce upon their tenants. You shall make no law that attempts to remove or revoke the rights of others, it is clearly illegal and highly immoral. Unacceptable business practices and discriminatory policies make this the worse storage experience. 0/10 would not do business again. read more

This place has horrible customer service, but I really don't know what to write because Yelp always deletes anything that I write at the slightest moment this merchant complains to Yelp about comments they disapprove of. Anyways, Rainbow Self Storage owes me money and my property that was stolen from me by its owner, auctioneer, and staff. read more
