Go somewhere else!!! So I need a unit again and was reminded of my past experience, so I'll be utilizing a different business this time around. In my past experience, I was late, lock cut before I showed up to pay, and charged additional $50 per cut lock. Funny thing is, I didn't have a problem, I understood. I was late n such. I happened to say, "Wow, $50 a lock...." and I was rudely cut off by their worker before I could finish. I was going to say, "Wow $50 a lock, I wish I had that job!" I wasn't even going to complain, but the lady snapped if I said another word, I'm out in 24 hrs. I couldn't even mention I wasn't complaining or I'd have my stuff on the street, which I wouldn't have been able to deal with as I had no truck available and had to work. Was super weird, creepy and controlling when I wasn't even complaining. This happened several years ago but never stayed right with me. So to see all the 1 stars looks like its their regular practice to harass, and insult their clients. read more

I tried to email a change of address for them to send my deposit on a storage unit I had rented and no longer needed in McKinleyville, and was having difficulties sending the email. I then reserved another storage unit at the Arcata location. The next day I called about what information I needed to email. The following day, after noticing my email didn't go through, I called the company about my issue emailing them. They made a mistake of canceling my new unit that I had rented in Arcata. I received two refunds for the deposits at both locations. When I called about their mistake they said that I told them I didn't need the new unit that I had just rented. When I asked to speak to the manager, who was the person that made the mistake, they told me they already knew my problem and talking to her wouldn't go well for me. They were extremely rude and when I still suggest that she call me back they said "we will no longer rent to you because of all of the problems you are causing for us" and hung up. read more

Horrible customer service, extremely rude women with a lot of attitude & low intelligence. Whoever does the hiring definitely is bias towards a certain demographic & gender, not an equal opportunity employer. They raise their prices often but haven't upgraded their outdated kiosk & website. The manager woman who works in Eureka is horrid & should never work interacting with the public. She always seems pissed and annoyed at doing her job even when paying rent by rolling eyes, being unnecessarily rude & pretending like she doesn't understand with snide remarks... psychotic! read more

Update we contacted the storage unit to talk to them a few weeks ago about our lawsuit and got nothing but threats and attitude from the owner Kim. We have proof of everything including pictures. This guy Ron apparently don't know what people are doing behind his back stealing $700 from me and then not letting me in my unit. That is theft and I'm suing for way more than that due to what was in my unit hat I do have pictures of including a video of Kim and her threats and us talking about the deal with our attorney which gave us a week to get our stuff out of our to big units. Then after we cleaned our one unit out the next days we were told that we would not have access to our other unit and that we were locked out. I requested half of our money back since we paid for both units and she refused to give it back to me. Ron, you want to play games bring it our group is going to bring your corrupt business down. We are done dealing with thieves and liars. Maybe you should fix things fast and pay the people you screwed over and admit when you are wrong. If you look most everybody has somewhat of the some story so sorry apparently something is going on. Man up and run your business right. read more

I hate writing reviews but had to on this place DO NOT rent from this place. I've rented from this place for five years an at the last few days of clearing my storage unit out. There was a dresser that was left outside my storage unit they called me told me to remove it which I did. Next day locked out my unit and charged a 50$ fee I called back I was upset I said I moved dresser like you said what's going on. Kim who is the boss says " maintenance took dresser in the facility closet took it back out before you came back and put it back out". She also tryed to say after I got upset and terminated me after i called her out because she tryed to add that I can pick up the "dresser" after she gave me you one day to get all my stuff out. July 19,2023. Got a call from the office on Monday stating they needed to do work on the building and needed my key to unlock my unit. I inquired as to when this work was to being done, Office Mgr (Kim) stated this week, so said I would try and get a key over in the next few days given I am a HCP working the local Hospital M-F. Next day got a call from another office person stating they wanted the key today...when calling back to confirm access to my unit and who will be watching my stuff, etc while it is open.. the MGR (Kim) got nasty stating they would either just cut my lock or I could just move my stuff out of the unit. I guess the Office knows nothing about customer service, nor how to plan projects being there was no official notification this work was being done, or confirmation of who is securing my belongings while work is done. A lot can be said about a business that employs a so called office manager that thinks bullying customers with threats is acceptable. read more

Wish there was a zero star. Ron I went back same day it was only 3hrs since I signed the paper for the rental space and they would not refund me my money. April 2021. Storage options are slim, and the first callback I got was from these folks. Very convenient platform dolly and freight elevator in the mini storage garage. Despite 1-at-a-time customer entry and plexiglass in office, staff are not mask compliant; YMMV and not a deal breaker because it's a seller's market for storage space. Ron H., looks like you are the owner. Your manager, Nicole Pettit is the worst human. She yelled at me on the phone, threw her business card at me when I said I'd like to know her name. The manager lady is insane. I'm almost 7 months pregnant, and shes more wacked out emotionally than I am. Here is a list of issues I experienced 1. I booked my listing 2 weeks ahead of time and was still forced to take an upstairs unit. 2. I was called about needing a padlock on my door. The manager was the one on the phone. She put me on hold but I tried telling her I was having an emergency, don't put me on hold. After 9 times of calling and being hung up on verses being put on hold, she finally proceeded with screaming at me over the phone for 10 minutes, finishing with hanging up the phone. All the people in the hardware store were shocked and uncomfortable. The employees who inquired about the phone call quickly decided they would never book with rainbow again. My emergency was that I needed to go to the hospital. 3. Today I called canceling my membership. Was informed I needed to go to the office. I did my paperwork quietly and asked about the manager. The manager happened to be sitting behind the lady doing my paperwork, and I asked her why she was so rude to me on the phone, she started screeching again i was driving when I called her. (I don't know why she mentioned this it was totally beside the point of what I was inquiring about) long story short, I told her she was crazy for yelling at a 7 month pregnant woman and she should as a professional learn to take constructive criticism. Just amazing to me how someone can mess up managing a storage unit. read more

Rainbow Mini Storage has several facilities in the Eureka area. They are high priced for their storage, though the facilities are clean and security monitored. However, if you are unable to pay your bill one month and go into the next month, they will slap a lien on your property and prepare to auction it unless the full amount (past due and current) are paid in full. It doesn't matter how long or short a time you have rented from them. They will not accept a partial payment under any circumstances ... as their manager told us, "That's not how you run a business." Racket, is more like it. Apparently, Rainbow has a lot of auctions, raking in far more than their inflated prices. We are outraged at the attitude of the company and will not recommend them in future. I notice they have a 1 star rating ...I wish we had checked Yelp before renting from them. read more

Of all the storage companies this is the least helpful with the highest cost. One month past due; they'll cut your lock. Five minutes late; they won't wait. One month costs three times other locations. Require a SS# to rent. Their staff is rude, disrespectful and untrustworthy. I am a friend of a tenant, unfamiliar with their business and they repeatedly spoke to me with attitude, impatience and sass. They misinformed me on how to comply with their bizarre requirements to reopen a unit after one month late and a cut lock. We spoke to Nicole over five times one day for our time sensitive need to access our unit, she told me to put the new lock in a drop box. In my experience, she should have looked out for our lock, knowing we were on our way- this is a rural community, five minutes shouldn't be a punishment- neither would she wait nor did she look inside the clearly marked Drop Box for our new lock. Knowing this is not a company I have engaged with prior, I expect my polite questions to be politely answered- even if I am a long term customer. Unfortunately each call I placed has been answered quite rudely. So happy I rent from a small family friendly business not these Mark-ups. $250 for an empty room. Gross. read more

19 years of storage, and my treatment today was inexplicable, from a frenzied front desk lady(Becky?) Who told me to get out, that I had apparently broke rules I was unaware of, because they most certainly were not part of the initial contract I signed. I don't live here. I left the area all those years ago, and while I have signed a few new contracts, shame on me for not reading the fine print about not sorting and repacking in your unit. So without warning or any explanation I was told to leave, and come back with a vehicle big enough to get it all in one trip, and get out in an hour. If this is how a loyal customer who has spent $1000's of dollars on rent is treated, don't expect even the slightest courtesy from this front office staff. read more

I'm a very unsatisfied customer. I secured a 10x20 unit on Saturday at rainbow storage on Broadway in Eureka California, paid almost 300$ dollars. A few hours after I had it secured, I got a call, saying something along the lines of: there was a glitch in our system, that storage unit is ours for our grounds equipment, our general manager will call you Monday and discuss how she will refund you, they also put me on their wait list for a 10x20 unit. I figured I'd talk to the general manager, tell her to keep it so I can reserve another unit with that money. She never called me, however, I did get a call about a 10x20 now available, which is perfect for my situation. So I called the next day, today, Tuesday the 16th of July, and spoke with the general manager. I called today, because I received the messages about the 10x20 after work, when they were closed. The manager and I spoke calmly to each other, she said I had to pay an additional 276$ to reserve this unit, because she claimed she refunded me early morning Monday the 15th of July, even though she didn't contact me FIRST like she was supposed to do. I did not receive the refund yet, and I'm NOT going to give them more money for more issues to arise before I get my refund. I spoke to two bankers at my bank, and they both said they'd be able to see rainbow self storage refund me, and I'd have the money available today if they did refund me, so it seems the general manager lied to me about refunding me early morning yesterday. Anyways,I asked if she could hold the unit for me, since their company wronged me, she rudely refused, and had the audacity to say "if you're so upset you can take your business elsewhere". Are you kidding me? Is this how we treat customers now? When a company makes mistakes, there supposed to right those mistakes, not turn customers away. I am very upset, because I need a storage unit very bad, and rainbow self storage is treating me very bad. Update: Ron, your response is funny. So my bank lied to me? Is that what you're saying? Your general manger was so rude, and so unprofessional, I'm quite certain you guys are lying. Take responsibility. read more

I only gave this place one star because u can't do none. I guess we will say the one star is for the fact that their facility is extremely clean and very secure. This is the second time that I rented from rainbow. The first time was back in 2013 I was at the Indianola location. I didn't have any problems at all. This time i was at the Broadway location. I rented for almost a year. I paid rent on time each month. I had no problems. Until.... last week. My husband went to get some stuff out of storage. He parked his truck in the parking lot and left it there. He planned On picking it back up around 4:30 he left it there at 10 am. I honestly didn't realize this was such a problem But at 3pm my husbands boss got a phone call from the women at the front desk asking about why my husbands truck was there. I was curious how they got the information as to where my husband worked. I called and asked how they gained entry to my husbands truck. (Seems like a normal question) the lady said that i was being rude and that I was insinuating that she broke into his truck. I was not rude and i was not insinuating that. She told me that they could use any means necessary to figure out who's vehicle it was. That is in fact not true you can tow the vehicle u can't break into it. I was told get the truck out of there by 5:30 and then i was hung up on. My husband returned to the property to go back into storage and to pick up his truck. When he drove past the window the 2 office ladies shook their head at him as he drove past. When he tried to leave he was locked in our code didn't work. I called the front desk to ask them to let him out. They put me on hold and proceeded to aggressively approach my husband saying "you can't fucking park your car here" (this is customer service?) we already discussed that he can't park his truck there there was no need for this interaction at all. My husband left (yes angry and after cursing back at her as he drove away) at this point it was beyond ridiculous. I was then told i was terminated. When i asked why i was told ask your boyfriend. I was told i had to make an appointment to get my stuff out and that i would have one hour and one trip to get my things. I had the largest unit available so not and easy request. When i made the appt i was told my husband could not be there to help me. I asked to speak to the owner or have a contact number for him and the general manager Kim refuses and said she made the decisions and that the owner was well aware of this situation. Kim is also claiming that my husband tried to run her over. (This is not true). If u look at the reviews it seems that Kim is mentioned in the same light in those reviews. I think that it is time that the owner sees that there is a pattern here and that the Kim might be the problem not the people taking the time to write the reviews. I am glad to have my things out of there. As hard as they tried to make i feel that they were hoping i wouldn't be able to so they can auction my things of. On a prior review i read the owner commented that they make no money off of auction because they return any money made over the amount owed. My termination letter stated if i wasn't out of the unit my rent would increase my 150 percent. Read ur contract word for word before u sign. read more

I just happened to notice all the negative reviews on Rainbow Self Storage in Eureka, so I thought I should tell my story. In my case, the service and the storage unit provided to me were excellent. The front person that assisted me, Becky, was knowledgeable and efficient. She was giving me instructions a little too quickly, so I asked her to slow down a bit, and she did, repeating the instructions more slowly for me. I received my refundable deposit in a timely manner. However, there was a problem with that deposit--it was rejected by my bank. I don't know what that problem was, perhaps a temporary glitch in Rainbow's software system--but the issue was resolved very quickly and efficiently. Becky called me to tell me to redeposit the check, and they would reimburse me for the bank's $12 fee. The redeposit went through just fine. Said and done. The 10x22 first floor unit was spacious, clean and easy to access (the one on Jacobs in Eureka). We had our furniture, TV, etc., stored there for 4 months--no problems with security, mold, insects or mice. Everything was in great shape. Over and out, and best of luck to all of you with your storage experience. read more

Rented the largest unit they have for two years. Always made my payments on time and never had security problems. One time they had closed before I could bring my payment inside so I dropped it in the slot. A few weeks later I received a notice saying my items would be put up for auction for non payment. They have security cameras and could review them to see me drop off my payment, but NO they were so rude. The lady at the front desk at the Broadway location was the rudest lady ever. I had to reissue a check, pay late fees and other fees. Put a stop payment on my check, just a bunch of crap! Needless to say, we took all our stuff out the next day! Beware of the place. read more

I wish I could zero star this business, but since I cannot, I'll let you know what happened to me. I was a solid, long-time client of this business, and never, ever had any problems until the past week. I recently moved all of my stuff from another storage unit I rented in Oregon back to Humboldt. Once here at Rainbow, I started going through my boxes, which I have done many, many, MANY times before without any problems, difficulties, or issues (I also have not ever left a mess, obstructed the hallway, been disrespectful or negligent in any way) but the next day, out of the blue, I was blocked from entering my unit. When I called, I asked why and could I please get access again? The person who answered the phone rudely screamed at me and told me I couldn't go through my things at the unit, I couldn't stay so long organizing my things at the unit, that I had to take home boxes to go through, and that I had set off an alarm because I accessed my unit again briefly after shutting the door. I apologized, and told the receptionist I did not know that I had a time limit to how long I could be at my unit (I understand an excess, but it was only for a couple of hours max each time), I did not know I couldn't go through my own things at a unit I pay for, and that the door sets another alarm after its shut (but you're still keyed inside the gate). I asked this rude, nasty receptionist if she could provide me with a copy of the rules, and where in the contract it states all of these things I had done (that I guess were just sooo freaking awful), and she didn't answer a single question, all she did was scream at me more and ask me rudely, "Why are you doing all this? Are you MOVING?" I told her it wasn't any of her business, that that was not relevant to the subject at hand, and she promptly hung up on me. I did get access to my unit again, and did go through my things for the next few days, but I do not have a choice--I had to access the boxes to move them, so I could rearrange the heavy furniture behind such boxes and not get crushed by it all, nor have broken items. I wanted to make sure my unit was neat, orderly, and easy to access. Well, apparently, Rainbow Self Storage did not like that. I was denied access yet again last night. I called again, this time to the McKinleyville office to avoid the evil troll that works at the Broadway office. I was treated badly, AGAIN, and told me the same things---I again explained that no one provided me with the rules and regulations, and again, my request was ignored. Instead I was told that I could not access my unit unless I had a chaperone....they evicted me, and left me with two weeks to move all of my things out by appointment only, during business hours only!! Do not waste your time, money, or customer loyalty to this business. They do not deserve you!! read more

Don't use this storage company they scam people out of money. Their system for online payments was down. We live 4 hours away and can't go in and pay it and we work during the hours they are open. All of my stuff in storage was full of black mold and reuined. This was not a small leak! Devistated, I called the general manager in eureka office Kim. And she yelled at me... Then evicted me! You charged first months rent plus 1/2 month deposit. You evict after 3 days, don't refund deposit, then demand another half months rent. Threaten to send half months bill to collection. You cut a lock that didn't belong to you, putting your company lock on, holding personal belongings for ransom. I hope by writing about your crappy business on Broadway in eureka, california, more people will write their stories about you, and not be afraid. Like the other customer, I wish there was a "no star" rating. The owner commented saying that their managers do not laugh at distressed customers. So now I'm a liar, too? And how, exactly, does one misconstrue laughter? I know what laughter sounds like. Clearly, no matter how many negative comments they receive, they aren't going to take them into consideration and get rid of the problem. Other people have said that the manager, Kim, has laughed at them, or spoken rudely to them. So are we all just liars? Seems pretty unlikely that this many strangers come up with the same story over and over again. This is the last energy I will be wasting on these people, because obviously no matter what anyone says it doesn't matter. She's a cancer to your business, Ron. Do you know what sane people do with cancer? They cut it out to save their life. And as for the profanity and verbal abuse, I never verbally abused anyone or used profanity with her. The calls are recorded so go back and listen to my call. Maybe then you'll believe me about the laughter. I told my friend about our conversation and I know SHE called Kim later on, but I don't know what she said, but I have no control over what my friends do, so their actions should have absolutely NO bearing on my business transactions with you. And its ok for your manager to verbally abuse your customers with no consequences, but as soon as someone bites back its an issue? Good business plan. A+. What a joke. read more

There are few times that a business can insult me so much that it results in my amusement instead of anger. On 2/29/16, I bought a storage unit from the Eureka office. I paid the 26.00$ deposit, plus a 23.00$ advance for the next months rent. I bought two locks for my unit, and gave the lady a 100$ bill. I arrived at the Indianola location to discover that my code was not working. I called the office for assistance, and was immediately subjected to screaming and whining from manager about how I was a "shyster" and how she didnt want to do business with "my kind of people" (yes, she said this in 2016), and outright refused to weigh the fact that the lock cost 8$ and that 1: She could have simply called to tell me that a mistake had been made, or 2: She could have simply deducted the money from my security deposit and emailed me explaining why. She had three males come to the office when I went for a refund for her "safety" (she refused to acknowledge the multiple signs of her obvious prejudice), and tried to pass on a partial refund to me at first. She was extremely unpleasant, and initiated an extremely immature attempt to drag our encounter on as long as possible, and grew visibly angry by my lack of emotion in dealing with her ignorance . I could swear her teeth turned from brown to orange after I left. read more
