I hate to do it since I have been going for so many years now but... their hard gel service is truly disappointing. For the first time ever, they are chipping. The technician didn't redo them like every other nail salon I have been to, feels short changed. Not to mention that the clear polish is lumpy. Especially annoying when I called and asked for hard gel refill and she said "$50." I ended up paying $60 because my nails are long. A detail like that should have been mentioned by technician prior to service. And I still tipped $18 because I know they donʻt make much. I was looking for an affordable option and now I have poorly done expensive nails. I might as well have paid a little more and got them done properly. My wife's golf friend said he comes here for pedicures and likes them a lot. I looked up Rainbow Nails and was confused to find two listings apparently a few doors apart from each other. This one is listed at 1154 Koko Head Ave with 192 reviews as I write this, and the other at 1148 Koko Head Ave with just 2 reviews. Both reference the same phone number. After cross-checking in various ways, my conclusion is that this listing is the original one, but also has the original address before they moved to their current location at 1148 between August and September 2008. We arrived here this morning as walk-ins and fortunately two staff were able to take us. We opted for the regular pedicure. My wife and I were seated next to each other, so we were able to compare the progression of our treatments. My wife's technician seemed to be the more skilled, in both our views. I couldn't tell if mine spoke much English, as she got into a routine where she motioned me to place one or the other of my feet on and then off the foot rest. I had to be paying attention, otherwise I'd miss a cue. My wife had heard from her friend that a massage was included, which matched the description. I didn't know what this meant in particular, but it turned out to be a sort of scrubbing, not what I usually experience as a massage in other settings. Do yourself a favor and go around the corner. I also asked if I could have cuticles cut and they said no that's manicure. Rip off!! The price list said $5 to remove. What $5 bucks a limb? My nail has been ripped since Wednesday morning 11/ 27. I got them done on SUNDAY 11/24. I haven't done any dishes or surfed etc, I have just been on vacation. Terrible work. I would like to start this review by saying this was my first time to rainbow nail salon ... artist SARAH was very patient with me while I asked questions about pricing and how much they charge for certain designs (due to me not knowing the prices there & I had a coupon I wanted to use) and she did an amazing job on my nails!! While I began getting my nails done this other artist KATE who was sitting behind me with another coworker proceeded to loudly discuss how customers are disrespectful for asking prices... saying things such as "this is my time & effort" which is valid but to say "people who ask why we raised are prices are dumb" " people nowadays are cheap " while I asked about pricing due to NOT knowing is very rude. To say those things talking very loudly in front of customers is HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL. Instead of talking bad about customers, by the looks of it you should stop eating snacks, getting your toes done from another coworker and talking on the phone about your personal drama and try to find some clients instead! I wanted to give this place a try because my normal nail places haven't been up to par lately. I called and they said they had an appt available at the time I wanted. The staff was all friendly. The inside is dusty, and dingy it need a good deep cleaning. I get there and my appt was at 10:00. I get seated and did not get seen by my nail technician till 10:25. I would have went somewhere else if I knew I would have waited that long. I then asked for the deluxe pedicure which is more expensive than the standard one. It was not worth it. I got a 5 minute massage. The whole thing was so rushed. They had a few people waiting so I knew they were all going fast to get to the next clients. I was not impressed with my experience. Love these sweet ladies. Sara and Kathy painted custom holiday designs for me this year. They renovated in in 2022 and the shop is just gorgeous, clean, and with courteous, and efficient staff. Rainbow nails is so convenient and with the new parking garage on the other side by big city is just a short walk to convenient parking I wouldn't recommend parking in the lot directly adjacent to them as it's metered, and quite expensive. I haven't been here in years. My bff treated me to a pedi/mani. Parking is in a large shared metered lot in the back of the building. We walked in and all the technicians were busy. We weren't in a rush so we sat in the waiting area and caught up with life. We must have waited about 30 minutes which was no problem. They do take reservations if you prefer to make one. When it was our turn they sat us side by side. They soaked our feet and proceeded to give us deluxe pedicures as requested. We forgot to choose our polish colors so they brought the palette samples to us. They have lots and lots of choices for regular polish or gel. We got regular polish and I added rhinestones. I made an appointment 1 week before for 3 people on Saturday. When I was on my way there I called to confirm and the lady said it was scheduled for Sunday so when we got there we had to wait. I wore my slippers and clip to show them the design I wanted. Before Cathy started doing my mani and pedi I asked if she could do this design she said nod yes. When it was time to do the design she couldn't so I tried telling her but she didn't really speak either so I had to call my sister in law to translate and it's like she didn't want to, understand or just didn't want to do the design. She missed the side of my nail so I had to ask her to fill it in. Less than 24 hours one of my nail came off so easily because the polish was so thick. After 1 week all my nails came off. The ladies there don't really speak that much and if you cannot do the design then say so from the start so we know and not having to go they the trouble of explaining and to find out the cannot. not happy with my manicure at all but my pedicure came out great. this is my second time at this salon, my first time i got similar results but thought it might've just been an off day. today i asked for a basic french tip with gel and left really unhappy. the shape was weird so i kept asking her to fix it but i dont think she understood me so i just gave up :( i think after spending $145+ on this service i expect better quality. the white paint wasn't even really done well on most of the nails. the girls who helped me never told me their names or even asked for mine. im just feeling really sad because i feel like i wasted money edit: about ten minutes after i posted this review one of the nails popped off ill call tomorrow morning to ask for ATLEAST a partial refund read more

Thank goodness I received a gift certificate for this place bc I'd be very upset if I had to pay for such a bad pedicure. The woman I had rushed through the DELUXE pedicure. I was done within 30 minutes! The lady next to me started before I even entered the nail salon & was still getting her pedicure when mine was over. The worker didn't even wait for the paint to dry before reapplying a second coat & top coat. She painted outside the lines & didn't fix it. She also completely missed half of my toe nail!!! I had to ask her for the paint to touch it up. My polish is very lumpy & looks like a 5 yo did it. I'm only giving them 2 starts bc at least they had those plastic bowl barriers for sanitary purposes & a new set of Emory board & pumice. The chair was old & lopsided. I have had manicures all over the US and this is legitimately the worst acrylic gel fill I've ever received. I think it was either my nail tech's first day on the job or she was legitimately blind. She filed and dremeled my nails practically to death painted them so sloppily she got paint on my skin that she never removed then filed the tips of my nails AFTER the top coat set so my edges are rough and catching on every bit of fabric I touch. My "ballerina" nails are really just square. Maybe the older, more-experienced techs know what's up but if you go in and get a lady who looks under 40 years old you'd be better off just painting them at home. She was that bad. read more

I'm sure it's hard being a nail tech, they can seem standoffish and rude at times, but I like the workers here because they don't small talk me or try to sell me upgrades. It may have been because I went in with a regular, but I was happy that I got to play tsumtsum on my phone in peace while the lady did my pedi. She was fast and efficient, which is nice because the parking around here is all paid parking. They offer opi, China glaze and Essie polishes, but they don't have a wide selection--I was looking for a cream-sickle color, but settled for a darker orange. The chairs are kinda old. The massage feature didn't work in my chair, but it's ok because I don't like those chair massagers anyways. The prices are comparable to other Vietnamese nail places in the area, and there seem to be a bunch of regulars. Four people came in while I was getting my nails done and they all were greeted very pleasantly. Despite reservations about reviews a friend and I made appointments for pedicures because we would be in the area. They overbooked themselves or take walk ins because they had almost a full bank of clients for pedicures and not enough folks to take care of them. This has been noted that they overbook themselves so don't bother going unless you are walking by and see that they aren't busy. There's a couple places outside of Waikiki but still near here, like infinity nails. Never had this happen there. read more
