There are only 4 tables, one of which is occupied by two kids that keep running in and out if the kitchen. They just got served dinner and it looks like an amazing seafood hotpot that's not on the menu. I want what they are having!! Several people have told me to try the General Tso's Chicken here as it's the best they've ever had. So I look forward to eating it back at my hotel down the street. (Time lapse, don't Yelp and drive!) Only 4 minutes lapsed, so quality was not compromised. There is a little crisp crunch left to the chicken. It's piping hot! The flavor is pretty good, but not all that different from most Chinese takeout. There is a nice consistency to the sauce and it's speckled with some chili flakes for a little heat. The pork fried rice is boring, just a few onions and pork here and there. Two pieces of steamed broccoli add a little color and health to the dish. The egg roll is about the same as you would get anywhere. Overall, a little disappointed that it wasn't worth the hype, but it's good and I would eat there again. But next time I'll ask for same as the kids are eating. Also, I decided to doctor up the rice with a splash of soy sauce... None in the bag. Grrrrrr!!! If you're looking for some good ole' Chinese take-out, like, the stuff you'd imagine in a white box with a red pagoda on it, this is the place to go! It honestly is the best take-out I've had in the Triangle (Durham has zero good places). Not only was the food on par with what you would want from late night take-out, the customer service was grade A+. I called in late one night, not knowing when closing time was, and though the gentleman who answered said he was just leaving, he asked what I wanted and said he'd have it ready quickly. He literally stayed late, with the "Open" sign off, just to serve me-- he didn't even act inconvenienced. One of the kindest acts I've experienced in a while, really. I will DEFINITELY be back-- Rainbow King is a place worth supporting. read more

Best food! Call ahead if you can, they are always busy, so sometimes there is a wait. Their elementary school age daughter usually takes our order, and she does an excellent job of getting everything correct; her cuteness is a bonus :-) read more

I was disappointed after reading the glowing reviews here for Rainbow King. The General Tso's was heavily breaded with little chicken. and the sauce was too heavy, imo. The mongolian beef had a strange smell and taste to it. i suspect the meat was of low quality or just going bad. We just moved to Wake Forest from Maryland where we had a wonderful (but super expensive) chinese restaurant that we ordered from frequently. I was sure we would find nothing close but Rainbow King on Capital in WF is fantastic! The food is absolutely delicious, the proprietor at the counter was an absolute doll and everything is so reasonably priced! If they delivered I would have to draw in another star but we are so close to the location it is well worth the drive. Definitely recommend! read more

Been going to Rainbow King since they opened, my wife works at the grocery store beside the place which makes it a quick stop on her way home sometimes. The food there is very good, I love their eggrolls and fried rice. Customer service is top notch, even on busy days they greet you with a smile. This is the only place we will get our chinese from. I spent a lot of time reading reviews for nearby Chinese food. I picked this place for take out and I was NOT disappointed! Tiny place and decor was nothing special but then it's a take out place. Obviously run by a family there was even children coloring in at one of the tables. Generous portions and the food was delicious. I had the sweet and sour chicken and the vegetables. This place is the best take-out chinese in Wake Forest. The girl at the front is super nice and kind. Her name is Nini (pronounced Knee-knee). Most of the times when I've gone into take out places, the asian women are cold and rude. They even monitor how many packets of soy sauce you get! This place is so friendly and the PAD THAI Chicken is possibly the best I've had in 15 years. My husband is from China and said that the food is really good and he orders from there often becuase there vegetables are fresh and the food isn't so sweet. This used to be our go to restaurant for years. We knew the owners personally and they were the best. But, past few times we have ordered, over the past few months, the re are new people running the restaurant. They claim the original owners still own it, but have begun operating another store somewhere else? Anyway, the service is now okay, but the food has gone from 5 to about a 1 or 2 rating. Not sure what is going on, but that's usually what happens with new ownership, or letting someone else run your business. I live in the heart of historic downtown Wake Forest, where there are half a dozen Chinese places within just a couple miles, and I love Chinese food, so naturally I'm like a pig in mud, right? Wrong. I have been to all the Chinese places in Wake Forest and have been disappointed by all of them. Either the General Sous chicken was bland without spiciness or the vegetables were soggy. It even occurred at more than one place that I got a funny after-taste that I couldn't identify, and one of the times, it was almost like fish oil, when my dish was chicken (or at least that's what I ordered. I know that Chinese take-out restaurants are not renowned for a high level of food, but I was very bummed about all this... until my buddy recommended Rainbow King. I had seen it before and hadn't gone yet. Honestly, I thought the name was kinda funny, but anyways. Although I ordered either sesame or General Sous chicken 90% of the time at Chinese Restaurants for most of my life, I was so impressed by how good theirs was that I started getting something different every time. I started going there almost daily and there is not one thing I have eaten of theirs that has not been very good. The only thing I haven't tried yet is their Thai, but that is changing here in about 15 minutes. In addition to the food being excellent, the people there are very friendly and nice. I ordered there several times and about three times in a row, I got wonton soup in addition to my meal. I called in the next time and when I didn't order the soup this time, the lady verified that I didn't want soup, making sure I didn't just forget it. She knew me by my voice and knew my typical order! Every time I go there, they give me a friendly greeting and even the guys back in the kitchen cooking shoot me a smile. They may not speak perfect English, but it's enough for me to know that I will order from no other Chinese place here in Wake Forest. read more
