(Now i'm just meshing childhood villains together... you get my point). I do not like cupcakes. USUALLY. In fact, I don't think I would have wandered into Cuckoos, had it not been for the "distracted by shiny objects" side of my personality. I knew it had great reviews, but it wasn't really on my radar until I saw their display cake and the PRETTIEST cupcakes that ever there were. So I went in and against my better judgement - I bought a cupcake. Real talk revised: I do not like cupcakes UNLESS they're from Cuckoos. Holy heck Batman, that's a fine cupcake! I went with the Sticky Toffee one, because since moving here, I realize that anything Sticky Toffee is going to be damn good and damn good it was. The icing was a bit much for me - i've never been a big icing gal, but everything under that layer was pure joy. Pure. Cupcake. Joy. Not to mention, they are basically a instagrammers dream... if you remember to take a picture before inhaling the thing, the staff are the sweetest and they offer gluten free options, online ordering and the minor detail that won me over: the boxes have individual holes for each cupcake, so when you're balancing two boxes on your way to a 9am meeting, you don't end up with smushed cupcakes upon arrival. They obviously think this stuff through and it shows in everything they do. I'm holding that five star for a sit in experience but overall, this place changed my mind on what I previously thought was overdone trend baking. Definitely worth popping your head in the door.

The location, tucked away on a side street away from the hustle and bustle of Prince's Street, means that you won't be fighting with people for a table, as although it can get busy around lunch, you likely wouldn't find it unless you knew what you were looking for. The staff is extremely helpful and nice and helped make the whole experiance very pleasant. I will note that the prices are a bit high, although that's expected when all vegan ingredients are used. Their signature brunch item, pink-hued waffles, make for a lightly crispy meal with a delicate spongy interior, and comes with a generous helping of fruit on the side. The espresso is good, with a impressive custom coffee machine and a wide selection of milk alternatives - although the chai latte was a bit weak in spice and flavor and could've been more thoroughly mixed. Another interesting item they do is an all-vegan version of the Scottish Breakfast. As that is traditionally an almost all meat meal, this a quite impressive feat, although I've never been a huge fan of imitation meats. If you're looking for a healthful brunch/lunch meal, especially if you are vegan or vegetarian, I recommend Naked Bakery! They also produce a selection of cakes and pastries which customers were coming in for throughout our meal.

Despite that we got bread, paella, cheese, raspberries, pears, apples, lettuce, cucumbers, and jam for the rest of our trip in Scotland and it was all fantastic. The paella we ate there. I got the chicken paella because I didn't think picking apart seafood with my hands was the best idea while wrangling two small kids without a reasonable place to sit down. It was really good, if a tiny bit saltier than I'd like. The spices were top notch and the experience of seeing it made in the huge 6' in diameter wok-like pans was worth it. The bread (we got spelt) was _really_ good and I wish we'd gotten two loaves. Instead, we got only one and just relished the breakfast sandwiches we made with it the next few days. The cheese, jam and produce formed the basis of a lot of what we ate for the next few days and it was much better than what we'd been getting at Tesco.

I definitely recommend coming here hungry, so you can try one of the food stands. I ended up trying the Chicken Paella (£5), which you can't miss. I was immediately attracted to the plate as I saw people walking around with them. For £5, the plate is huge and will easily fill you up. Unfortunately, the flavor and taste was only okay. It may be best to share, so it's not so overwhelming. It's not bad, but definitely not one of the better paellas I have had. My friend did get the dumplings, which are pretty popular as well though. Either way, cool little spot to grab a bite and walk around. It does get pretty crowded though.

I adored the lime, poppyseed, and blueberry roulade! It was gone before the soup and toastie sandwich arrived. Crispy on the outside and so very soft and tasty on the inside. The cookie pie was impressive, but I honestly liked the roulade so much better. The soup today was broccoli and it was delicious! I had a ham and cheese sandwich lightly grilled in a panini press. Mom had a chorizo sandwich. The ladies at the bakery were lovely! Friendly happy folk always make food taste better! The bakery was quiet and not busy at 12:30 pm. It wasn't empty, just not busy. We got a table for 3! It was funny (and also a sad commentary on humans) that the still water available said "Please turn the tap off." Silly people. Thank you so much for a wonderful lunch! I have submitted a complaint to them as a result. I contacted this business to order a cake for the 18th of February. The cake was ordered Monday and on Tuesday I emailed in asking for the cake to be cancelled due to a family matter. I spoke to a director directly on the phone today Wednesday 11 Jan. The director told me I cannot get a refund unless its more than a months notice. I explained to him it is more than a months notice. He then said I can have a gift card and I said no I would like a refund. He said as per the terms and conditions on their website they dont offer refunds. I explained that I emailed them off a link on google and I didnt order the cake online so I had no idea about their terms and conditions. I also asked why the terms and conditions were not made clear to me when ordering the cake. I said that as per trading standards any terms and conditions should either be sent via email or verbally read out on the phone. Making the assumption that I went to the website is not ok. You had every oppurtunity to direct me to your companies policies but failed to do so. I ordered the cake and cancelled it just over 24 hours, the business has no incurred any costs or expenses. I should not be held randsom to a contract I didnt agree too. If I had known about their terms and conditions I would never have gone through with it. I see they dont allow google review- im starting to understand why.

The bakery is based on Rodney St, other side from the Marshmallow Lady. They have some seats inside (about 6 perhaps) so you can sit in and grab cake and coffee. The seating area was full when I visited and I wanted cake to take away. They had some cookies (60p each), brownies (£2.20 - £2.50 each) and a couple of cupcakes including red velvet (£2.50). I grabbed a white chocolate blondie and a red velvet to go. I was surprised at so many brownies available (normal, peanut butter, salted caramel, etc) as many gf people have brownie fatigue as thats traditionally the only cake we'd be offered. Service was friendly and helpful. There is a loyalty card - collect the stamps and after six, get a freebie. So, the taste test. I tried a bit of the blondie as I was wandering to Stockbridge. Very sweet, and I'm a sugar junkie so I was glad I only had a couple of little bites as I think the full thing would be too much. I was saving myself for the red velvet cupcake. It was disappointing which I hate to say as I love that places like this are popping up and catering to gf. I could see the top of the cupcake was cracked so I thought this might mean it was overbaked and it was :-( In the interests of research, I ate it all but it was consistently a bit hard throughout. I did like the icing, really good and not fake sweet like Bibi's had ended up. So, 3 stars. I wasn't wowed but I'd return once the hype has died down to see if the cupcakes are better.

I brought home some cupcakes and also a pizza scone to try.
