The scones are just delightful. I can honestly say that these are the best I have ever had. They have classical flavors and adventurous flavors that are made from scratch and baked fresh throughout the day. Chewy and buttery on the inside with a good crunch on the outside, they truly are quite perfect. No tasteless, hard, floury, and crumbly "scones" here. So far, I have tried the fruit jam scones and today I had a slightly savory sage, pecan, jalapeno jelly scone. Didn't really taste like jalapeno or have any bite at all, but it was still amazing. I have yet to try the other pastries but It's just a matter of time. I can only comment on the iced tea because I'm not much of a coffee person. The iced black tea had a great aroma and the hibiscus herbal tea was very refreshing. Not as watered down as other chain coffee shops. Like others have mentioned, they do have a coffee/tea punch card (buy 10, get 11th free) which you will have to ask for. Raging Sage has such a nice warm, homey feel. The staff is always super friendly and they really engage in conversation with the customers. There is a patio as well. The cafe space is really small and it can get crowded at peak hours. About 12-15 tables inside. Parking can also be hard to find but there are always people coming and going. As far as studying goes, probs not the best place. Space is limited, there is no WiFi (until after 5pm I believe), there's a lot of foot traffic, and the fresh-baked-scone smells are distracting. Nonetheless, I still have managed to get some reading done. I would consider this more of a hangout coffee shop --good place for casual meetings, a date, reading a novel/newspaper, etc. Definitely recommend checking this place out...and don't skip the pastries! read more

What the deuce, Mo?! How have I never come here before? I have no acceptable excuse. Because THIS coffee house is the shiznit! Seriously...S H I Z N I T! I ordered my standard, iced chai made with almond milk and received one of the most flavorful, spicy, aromatic chai teas since I first tried chai in the late 80's in Southern California. When I mentioned to the barista how tasty it was, he informed me that they blend their own chai tea mix. It shows, folks! I also indulged in a soft ginger cookie. Sugar be damned! What I got was a fat, chewy, gingery, not overly sweet treat. It was perfect! There are also gluten free and vegan treats offered, which I'm so pleased about. I was on my way to Starbucks but then saw this cute place, local and aligned with all my values. They had a humanitarian aid is never a crime poster on their window. I get in line to order my chai latte and the cashier right now in overalls, tall handsome guy was very rude. I didn't hear him when he asked what size the first time, so the second time he asked he said slow...like very slowly, like the way you would talk to a toddler. I always get so disappointed when I'm trying to support local businesses and their staff are rude hipsters. The reason this bothered me so much was because the customer behind me, was talked to very pleasantly and greeted. I'm never coming back. I've worked in customer service before and I know I was not a rude a customer. I hope his day gets better because he ruined mine. Get a scone! They are made fresh daily and are always delicious flavor combinations. The apricot is one of my favorites. The coffee is delicious and the staff are friendly and will make you anything you want (coffee). I loved the iced Vietnamese: 4 shots of espresso, sweetened condensed milk, over ice. They are pet friendly on their patio, just watch out for the maniac pigeons that will swoop in and take your breakfast. read more

This place is a joke. I came in from LA, and was really excited to try this coffee shop. Went there with 4 ppl and was refused business due to no mask. They straight up turned away 4 paying customers due to no masks. All of us are fully vaccinated. Also, no other place in Tucson even still requires masks. If you're going to be super strict on the mask policy at least offer them to patrons do that they can spend money at the place! Come on. On top of it, the workers were extremely rude. read more

Raging Sage used to be the premier place for scones and other baked goods. The scones we had on Sunday were miniature versions and they were tasteless and seemed days old. Threw them away. The coffee was nothing special. If the staff spent more time on their menu and less time harassing customers they would be better served. read more

Needed a place to do some work on my laptop and Raging Sage had a cool, calm vibe that I needed! Its small, chill, intimate with dim lighting, comfy booth seating. I ordered one of their iced tea specials (was very flavorful). The only downside was that I couldn't connect my laptop to their WiFi - I ended up having to use my own hotspot (but it's all good bc I was still able to be productive in their chill atmosphere!) Can't speak about the coffee Bc I didn't try it, but I've heard great reviews about the coffee! read more

The fact that the Raging Sage remains in business with both a Dunkin and a Starbucks nearby is definitely an indicator that this place is something special. I have come to this place since I was in high school (I'm now 33) and since I have moved from Tucson it was always somewhere I looked forward to visiting when I came to visit family. This place has sadly gone so downhill, and I think it really has to do with the culture of the employees that work there. The employees, especially the black haired daughter of one of the owners, are rude, dismissive and unfriendly. They act like you are being done a favor by doing their jobs. Hilarious considering their point of sale system asks you to leave them a tip after you swipe your card. Recently I witnessed a man who obviously had never been to Raging Sage before asking for a "grande coffee," which of course, is Starbucks speak for medium coffee. This is pretty common knowledge. When he was handed a large coffee, he said, "Oh you I thought I ordered a medium." The nasty daughter of the owner with the black hair and tattoos responded, "you said grande, grande is large is Spanish so I charged you for a large." I've seen this same child scold other guests for being unclear on their cellphone policy (you aren't allowed to use them or you'll be asked to leave). The scones have gone down hill, their coffee is bitter, but really its their disgusting morning staff lead by the head Ms. Nasty who thinks its okay to treat people who are spending their hard earned money on their overpriced coffee like they are worse than dirt. Do yourself a favor, go one of the other lovely local coffee shops Tucson has. A coffee shop that appreciates your business and treats you with respect because you are a paying customer. read more

This venerable Tucson bakery has been a real favorite of our family for over two decades. Delicious baked goods, a mellow environment and sunny patio made possible by consistently friendly and capable staff. Sadly, it has recently undergone a name change. From here on, call them "Passive Aggressive Sage". Yesterday I made one of my biweekly trips to purchase baked goods for the family.  There were easily 30+ baked-items in the front display case with the possibility of  even more items unseen from the customer side of the counter. I ordered four of the tiny little Jam Scones which are literally half the size of the regular scones. I then selected two more of the regular scones and was ready to order a coffee rink when the counterperson interrupted me with "Oh, we have a four-item purchase limit on baked-items".  She articulated this with a rather snide tone and quite the smirky smile. "Even though these are the tiny scones?" I asked. She again replied "we're a very popular bakery!" I inquired "when did that four-item policy start?".  Initially, she would not reply except to repeat "we're a very popular bakery!"  I mentioned that I had been purchasing baked goods there for two decades and never experienced such a limit even when purchasing quantities of up to a dozen. With a continued smirk, she again repeated "we're a very popular bakery!" and then added "it always been the policy for the the twenty-two years we have been open". The second counterperson then sidled up to her and cast a backup smirk headed my direction. Given that both the counterpersons were toddlers at best twenty-two years ago, it is curious how remarkedly self-assured they are about how this business has been operated over the decades. I gave up, abandoning the idea of spending any further money on a coffee drink and left. I felt sad, I felt irritated and I certainly felt passive-aggressively abused by the staff. Count the former "Raging Sage" as yet another civility victim of the Pandemic. Best of luck with their new customer-abuse paradigm! Give it six months and this business will be filing Chapter 7. The counterpersons will again be unemployed and contemplating their $90,000 student loans for those non-degree art-school certificate programs that have left them so angry at the world. Used to love this place when I was here in undergrad. Unfortunately, it's just not the same. I had the vietnamese coffee, which was ok. It's not a true to form vietnamese coffee, but it satisfies a craving, albeit a little watery and dilute. I also got a "jammie" which was good. I liked the strawberry jam that was in it; not overly sweet. Both are a little on the pricier side, but not terrible considering Starbucks prices. Honestly, as a forever student, my biggest complaint is that they only turn on their wifi after 10 am or 11 am...which is such an arbitrary and odd restriction. I don't remember them having this when I was first down here, but maybe I just didn't pay attention then. I probably won't go back for this reason because I'm usually in coffee shops to get work done, which often requires wifi and I'm an early bird. read more

The Cubano is a must try! The coffee was creamy, rich and delicious! Definitely rivals a cubana in Cuba. The service was super friendly and fast. The little courtyard was very charming with the mature orange shade trees. The inside is super cozy and has a great atmosphere if you want to hang out. We sat in the courtyard and it felt like we were in our own little space instead of right next to the busy street. The coffee is great but somewhat pricey. The atmosphere is great and super relaxing, a great place to unwind or meet up with a friend to catch up. read more

Easily one of the worst espressos in the country, much less Tucson. I taste espresso from every Tucson cafe that roasts and serves their own espresso weekly for the last two years. Consistently Raging Sage is the worst. A concrete example to watch: their espresso machine is semi-automatic that is metered by water volume. This is great because you can time the shot if they don't physically stop it, it should go 25 seconds as a general rule to know that the grinder is set properly to extract the espresso. 19-31 seconds would be ok, but I have never recorded a time longer than 13 seconds-most of the time 8 or 9 seconds. That is not enough time to extract espresso because the water is going through so fast from being too coarse. Next time you go, time the shot and see for yourself. read more

But then to come over and tell me "We prefer you take your phone calls outside" while I'm SILENTLY LISTENING to voicemails at the same time that there is a quite loud conversation happening at the next table over...well, I can't find any justification for it any way I look at it. I had high hopes for this place based on the reviews and love going to try out local coffee shops instead of big chains. The atmosphere and staff were great, seemed like a large variety of drinks, no doubt. But the coffee was not good..I couldn't even finish it. I got a iced vanilla latte and my boyfriend got the Mint Dream. Something was just off. It was not smooth at all. The coffee tasted really bitter? Or burnt? Or the aftertaste of the syrup was terrible? Whatever it was, I did not like it. Maybe just my opinion, but there are better coffee shops. read more

Raging Sage has almost everything, and on a future visit I may upgrade to 5 stars. BUT, as far as I can tell the only have one kind of coffee, which is a blend of French roast (3 parts) and a light roast (2 parts), origins of the beans kept secret. I find this blend too smokey for my taste. I originally ordered a half-caf, half-decaf americano , but it was noticeably bitter. When I pointed this out and asked if it might be the decaf beans, one of the bartenders agreed. I asked to exchange it for the drip, which is always their proprietary blend, and they had no problem with that. They even offered to make a regular americano. It is clear that the pastries draw a lot of people here and the all look scrumptious. I was hoping for blueberries with bran, but they didn't make anything like that today, so I got the blueberry scone. It was crumbly and taste very good. The staff was very helpful, explaining options and bean source, and friendly. A very good experience overall and I look forward to trying again. read more

The gentlemen running the register was quick to point out that they discriminate against families and we only count as 1. 4 per person is their company policy. I replied that I have 4 people. Another employee chimed in with the authority of a supervisor, reiterating that my familial status was irrelevant and I can only order 4. Literally, in shock, at the discrimination of my family, we departed this store immediately. I have never faced discrimination of this type at Cartel Coffee, Ghinis, or any other of the wonderful coffee shops that serve pastry's in this town. I have been coming to Raging Sage for years. If this is indeed the policy of the company, then it has sent me elsewhere along with our family, neighbors and friends who have walked with us to this establishment for the past few years. read more

After the owner (the husband) passed away, and now years later as the pandemic is entering its 3rd year, the overall quality of the baking, the customer service, and the property maintenance has gone downhill. Some scones are underbaked, and some have nearly burnt bottoms. The counter staff appears as if they rather be in any other place than here; in particular, the thin, tattooed young woman replies in short, curt answers and does nothing to make the exchange between customer and establishment a pleasant one. The patio is not as clean as it once was. After 3 years, they just opened the restroom to the public, whereas most places in Tucson, especially those who serve food and beverage, opened their restrooms as soon as the business opened again. No one is allowed to sit inside this business, not even for a brief moment to tie a shoe, because the staff will yell, "You can't sit here! Now I'll have to clean the table and chair!" I would have said, "But isn't that part of your job?" Maybe this is the same reason the restroom has been closed to the public, that is, so the staff won't have to clean it. Yes, the coffee is good, but it's good in other places too. If I ever go there again and am treated rudely, I will not leave a tip and will make a formal complaint to the owner. I've been a retail manager and spent lots of time training and managing staff. The young woman I mentioned would not last a day with me if she acted in such a discourteous manner. I don't care how difficult it is to hire staff right now. I'd hire someone new, train, and supervise them if I had a desire to keep old customers or attract new ones. read more
