The worst part of the entire experience and one of the main reasons for two stars (it's the principal) -besides waiting forever to sit - is the fact that they charge you per pitcher of water. WHO CHARGES PER PITCHER FOR SEMI COLD TAP WATER FROM THE KITCHEN??!?!!? Overall, I would give it another try... Not impressed. Was expecting better from all the reviews. The food was really hit or miss for our group. The gnocci and braised short rib dishes were a hit. Sweetbreads were so so. They were kind of bland for my taste and not crispy as described... The flatbreads were pretty standard and we had mixed reviews for the scallops. Would have been a decent night if it were not for the horrendous waitress. We asked if we could have the check split between couples at the end of the night (not a big deal if she couldn't as we had an accountant amongst us and I'm sure he could figure it all out!). But the waitress became rude, unprofessional and obnoxious after this request. When we finally got our bill she said 'figure it out yourself." We will not be back based on this experience. read more

How does this place only have 3 1/2 stars? This is the best and most authentic Italian food I've had in the Philadelphia region. Don't expect the standard Italian restaurant menu of a thousand pasta and pizza choices. The menu is interesting and has alot of options (pasta, pizza, fish, beef, etc). The food is incredible too! A very pleasant surprise. The place overall was very attractive, except for the tacky pergo flooring. We did the selective menu options and each was simply well prepared and delicious. Breads were interesting, but for the stale focaccia, and why any restaurant would serve stale or bad bread is beyond me. Service was excellent, but their sure is plenty of teens running around - take the 4 girls greeting us in sync "how are you this evening". No tattoos or rings placed in perverted places though, and this certainly is a plus to a dining experience. Wines by the glass was interesting in that they bring it out in a carafe, but pour it in a table "water or martini" style glass. I ordered a $10 pinot noir and it tasted awful. I of course was unsure if the wine was that bad or how much the glassware played a part. I asked the waitress if they have real wine glasses and she seemed to understand and came back with quality stemware. Anyone who ever doubted that the stemware plays a part in the taste of a wine, should give this place a try just for this experience. This is a Tapas place. Sure they serve traditional plates, but who are we kidding here you're there for the Tapas. Most of it was three stars, but their deconstructed lasagna was so good I thought it was worth an extra star. Next time I'll probably just ask for a big plate of that stuff and forego the rest. Just returned from a second meal at Radice and I/we must say it was very disappointing. We never got our gnocchi. Our salad was served with our entree and most of all, my veal rib was total fat! Our waiter was not so good, either. He never asked how our meal was and when he finally cleared our plates he didn't ask why my plate was untouched and when I mentioned the fat he didn't care. Could this be because the owner was not present? Our first time at Radice was much nicer. It will take a long time for us to return, but I will give it one more try. Just do not order the veal ribs, unless you don't mind a lot of fat! read more

You'd never guess it's in a strip mall! I asked a foodie pal to recommend a restaurant north of the city and this was his excellent recommendation. My friend & I thoroughly enjoyed every dish we had (though we shouldn't have allowed the server to upsell us - ignore the 3-4 dish recommendation at the top of the menu - two would've done me just fine. We didn't even touch the two pizzettas we ordered - took 'em home instead.) Pear martinis - YUM. And the decor is understated elegance - a wonderful, refreshing break from the horror that is chain restaurants. This was the perfect way to celebrate our 46th birthdays. :) read more

We had above-average food, but incredibly rude service. Concerning the food, we sampled an assortment of the small plates. Some were just average, but a few were outstanding, such as the roasted romaine, and the pasta with wild mushrooms. All were unique and interesting; you won't find the typical spaghetti-and-meatballs here, and that's a good thing. Unfortunately, the experience was marred by incredibly rude service. Because many of the plates had unfamiliar names and ingredients, we were a bit slow to decide, and had several questions. We didn't think this would be a problem, partially because the restaurant was NOT busy. However, the waiter became very impatient with us, essentially demanding our order right away, and rolling his eyes when we asked to keep a menu at the table for reference. Plates were thumped down unceremoniously on our table. We felt as if the food was being thrown at us. After dinner, when we attempted to linger a few minutes over coffee and dessert, the waiter came by three times to see if we had put our credit card in the folder yet (and I emphasize the restaurant was not busy that night; no one was waiting for our table.) The food is above-average for the area, and this restaurant could easily go up from one to three or even four stars if they spent a little time on staff training. As it is, I can hardly recommend it. It was late, the day hadn't gotten off to a great start, and I was really tired and hungry. Not a great combination. Enter the frittata pizza and spinach salad, which were sitting at the table, waiting for me at home. I happen to love breakfast at any and all times, so I loved the combination of eggs, veggies, and fontina, mozzarella, and parmesan (I think?) on a crispy flatbread. Although it wasn't as amazing as 2 Amy's down in Chevy Chase, it was still delicious. The crust was of the hearth-baked, hand-tossed, rustic kind and the blend of fresh and hard cheeses gave it an extra boost of flavor (mozzarella by itself isn't that flavorful). The spinach salad was surprisngly light and refreshing, which was probably due to the pear slices; the vinaigrette dressing was nicely paired with the blue cheese and not overly tangy, as many vinaigrettes can be. The only thing that would have made it better was walnuts. But I can always just sneak my own in (if I'm eating there, that is; we tend to grab takeout). Overall, a great albeit pricey choice for rustic, bistro Italian. This was the perfect meal for a long day. Did I mention that my family rocks? They always know when I need to be well-fed. read more

We go there on a monthly basis and usually sit at the bar. Friendly and knowledgeable bartenders. Alll of the people there make you feel at home. They make you want to come back to catch up. Great authentic, rustic Italian food. My favorites are Costatine, a pork rib small plate dish, and all of their wood fired pizzas are outstanding! Yum!! The pizza (appetizer) came out first and was fine, but we waited, and waited, and waited at least 45 minutes for the rest of the food. The waiter did not seem to care and and was rude. And the food was nothing special for the rest at the table while my eggplant parm was salty and hardly edible. Even if we didn't have the service problem, it was overpriced for what it is. I love this place and I have eaten here multiple times. The owner, Toto, is very friendly and the atmosphere is bright and clean. The food is delicious and the granata cocktail is a favorite in my book. It is always strong and wonderful especially after a long day. I have been here twice for lunch. I haven't come here for dinner yet, so my review is based on my lunch experience. Both times the food was delicious. Today I had the barley soup and spinach salad. Both were wonderful. My friend needed gluten free options, and turned out they had gluten free pasta. Asides from the food, what was memorable was the service. The waiter Ryan was attentive and curteous. He made great suggestions and the courses were timed properly. Basically, the menu tells you nothing. The server we had was more than a little disturbed by the fact that the guest of honor ( a frequent customer) was half an hour late. I ordered a whisky Manhattan and got an old fashioned. I loved my spinach and goat cheese salad, at $10 I should have! My gnocchi we're alright. Our waiter leaned over and advised me that I had not ordered an entree. So what? I know how much I want to eat. The lasagna was like a small soup casserole. If this restaurant was in Philly I probably would give it 3 or 3 1/2 stars. Blue Bell is trying though! Once you try everything and find what is good, you can certainly have an awesome meal here worthy of 4 stars. It's hit or miss and I would give it a second chance if your first time was a bust. My boyfriend and I dined here for Valentines Day just last night. Our reservation was at 6:30 on a Monday and when we arrived we sat down right away at a nice corner booth. I recommend sitting towards the outside of the space rather then in the middle of the restaurant because as soon as 7pm rolled around the place was packed. It wasn't more noisy then your average dining establishment... but it wasn't a quiet fine dining atmosphere either. I don't like to hear myself chew, so I thought it was perfect. Definitely ask for recommendations. Our server named some items off the menu and we ordered accordingly. Apparently the eggplant is the most popular item on the menu, but I didn't think it was anything special. Don't get me wrong, I ate it in about 2 seconds... but it was your average baked eggplant smothered in delicious sauce and cheese, how could it not be good? The scallop rissotto cakes were very good... the citrus sauce they were in were a bit too acidic but cut the richness nicely. I did go so far as to soak it up with my bread. The bread! Bread was good which is a must for any Italian restaurant. I highly recommend the pizza rustica. I'm a total brick oven pizza snob and what made this pizza awesome was the super thin proscioutto (not fatty or rubbery at all so you could actually take bites without bringing the whole piece of meat off the first bite with you), the super fresh and salty ricotta cut by the peppery arugula... and the piece de resistance was the honey white balsalmic-y goodness ever so lightly drizzled on top. Lasagnette was also delicious. Like... really good. Besciamell-y, cheesy, bolognese-y... super melty in your mouth good! If I was going to dine here again I would get the pizza rustica, the lasagnette and the baked berry mascarpone dessert. That would be a perfect meal for me. The pizza was 8-inches (4 slices) and the lasagnette was also small so don't assume I'm being a pig! My date and I did end the meal with the stuffed veal pockets and the short ribs, but we could only take about 2 bites of each because we were so stuffed. Both were good, but not awesome enough to be worth the gluttony. The shortribs were cooked perfectly but lacked a sort of richness you expect from something cooked for hours. So we are left with a nice post Valentines lunch today. :) Wine... being Italian myself and at an Italian restaurant, I of course ordered Italian wine. eh, not impressed. I ended up much happier drinking the Australian Shiraz. I'm also not a fan of driking my $9 glass of wine from a green "water glass", but I got over it after the first glass. :) There are a lot of reviews out there that describe the staff as inattentive and kind of obnoxious. I think we got lucky, though I can't remember his name, he seemed quite attentive and non-judgmental and we gave him a $35 tip. I certainly take that into account because my boyfriend and I are in our 20s, he's kind of punk-rock and I look like I'm 12. We don't always gain the respect some other people get at a fine dining establishment simply because we may not appear like we are going to spend money. Ever see Pretty Woman? Point is we do spend money. and we eat. and we drink wine. and we do it well. Our waiter was super nice and informative and gave us equal attention as he did to the 50 year old country clubbers next to us. As far as the older bald Italian guy (the owner I assume?) that worked the room and went around to every table to ask how their meals were going all night? Well, he went to just about every table in the place BUT ours. I won't take it personally though we did spend about three times as much as the people next to us. The place is certainly not young and hip and one of the busboys called my boyfriend a lady without an apology (he has longer hair and I guess looked like a girl from the back? Certainly a first, but humorous to say the least), but perfect for the country club type... or anyone that just doesn't care about all that and just wants to eat good food. Our bill was about $200 for the two of us (we totally over did it and we have tons of leftovers... but no regrets!). This place is alright. To start, the host (an older gentleman) was rude and clueless. When he called to confirm the reservation, he was quite dismissive when I asked a couple of questions. And he was also the same when we arrived for our dinner. Once he realized four people walked through the door, he treated the other two folks very well. Then turned around and acted like we were a disruption to his day. Whatever... It got better from there. The place itself has a nice ambiance, although we would have preferred darker decor for Italian. Our server, Ryan, was helpful and attentive. The wine, primitivo, was lovely. We decided on three small plates... The lattuga (lettuce with ricotta and bacon) was ok. Weird that it was warm. The Gorgonzola gnocchi were yummy... Although I've had much better. And the pizzette (ricotta, prosciutto, and arugula) was good. I would lay up on the arugula, though. It was overpowering. The dessert was delicious! Drunken ice creams! All in all alright. Just nothing to swoon over. But a decent option for the burbs. We will be back, however, to try some other items... The osso bucco sounded yummy... I just hope that same host is not there. read more

Highlights: our very patient and fun waiter Ryan, and every food item (we ordered a lot of small plates, and several of us had main courses as well). Sadly my first experience was awful. I ordered the spinach pizza and it came out burnt. I don't understand why the kitchen would even send that out to a customer. The waitress did not even apologize. She said "do you want another one" My husband had his dinner already. We asked for our check. She should have sent the manager over and at least offered me a drink. I left with no dinner. 2.5 stars, really. Food good but definitely not half as good and reliably consistent as Moonstruck, the owner's other restaurant. Service mediocre but not as professional or formal as I had expected. Had to excuse herself to ask chef how dishes were prepared. Fish dishes not as flavorful as expected. Rather bland. The mandolin sliced potatoes beneath the fish were not hot enough (must have been reheated) and had too much of a crunch. should have been more tender. I suggest you stick with the meat dishes. My table mates were pleased with their salumi course and their entrees. Cocktails and wine very good and our glasses were never left to go empty. Found this restaurant on Yelp based on reviews and took my friend here the other night for her birthday dinner. Not impressed. The service was extremely slow. Our waitress didn't take our order for 15-20 minutes. The food was just okay. My friend also made a comment when we were leaving saying the food wasn't great.
