Crispy Asian Salad (df, gfo), Sticky Cauliflower (vg, gf)
Mark M.

One of my top 3 all-time meals in 60 years of dining throughout the U.S. and Europe. (FYI, the other two were in Illertissen, France and Paducah, KY, if you can imagine.) Perfect for us vegetarians. Mango mousse dessert was a highlight, as was a beet-filled kofta. Super creative takes. Relaxed but professional service. Spacious, bright (in daylight) room.

Gorgeous decor and setting. Tasty dishes and friendly, efficient service. Great spot for date night or dinner out with friends. Also offers mocktails. Try the No-hito and Butter Chicken. Spice levels can be high for a more bland palate, but medium is a safe bet.

The restaurant environment is very nice! It's great to hang out with friends or just for family dine out. I ordered those dishes with an Indian friend. So I know they are authentic and also yum! The blackened chicken is a little dry to me. But the cheese appetizer is amazing, like tofu!

Enjoyed a delicious brunch at Raag. The food is perfectly proportioned and a visual treat, with very good variety. This isn't a typical Indian restaurant- it is modern, upscale, and "progressive" so to speak. Enjoyed trying a chai-tini martini to start with. For mains, our party had various dishes including chole bhatura, Szechuan dosa, dhokla, and noodle dishes. The meal was preceded by a unique sensory aromatic experience on the table! While the dosas were flavorful and unique, these were not the large crispy dosas evoked into memory from traditional South Indian restaurants. All the other items were very flavorful and tasty. Finished the meal with various self serve sweet treats. Really enjoyed this unique Indian meal.

Love the concept and this is truly the only place with a mix of both traditional and modern, fusion dishes in the city! We tried the lamb keema bao, butter chicken empanada for starters which we loved. The bao was our favorite for sure. So unique and delicious! For mains we got the shrimp moilee, eggplant mousakka, and lamb rogan Josh. The shrimp was some of the best curry we've had and I loved the eggplant as well. The pieces of lamb in the rogan Josh were tough and chewy, but everything else was great. I also had a chai which came hot and was well spiced. Overall a great spot and hope to try more of their dishes soon!

Raag amazed me. This place is full of flavors and surprises. We came here for brunch and ordered several items from the brunch menu. The Dosa was made live and we could see the making. We ordered the Szechuan flavor and they are not shy on the amount of hot sauce on the dose. Chicken Tikka omelet, chicken waffle, puffy bread with chickpeas, cake, all the desserts. I do wish their website gives a clearer menu as we usually try to identify dishes we want to order. Perhaps we weren't looking at the right spot. All the dishes we shared was amazing!! I am in love with this restaurant and we can't wait to come back to try their dinner.

This place isn't what it used to be like. The food quality has changed a lot. The fig kofta was my favorite but from my recent visit, I did not like the taste of it. The gravy has been changed and so it doesn't taste as good anymore! I did enjoy the mini idly on the menu! Ambiance is great as always. I just wish they didn't change the food recipes. Vegetarian thali was mediocre. The stew wasn't as flavorful and the garlic naan came out not that crispy, which is how I prefer. I hope they go back to their old recipes. Service is good, people are always nice when we go there.

Dosa

Had them twice now. Once for takeout and once for brunch dosa. Both times are amazing with great food, friendly staff, and a relaxing atmosphere. The dosa (rice and lentil crepes) are perfectly light and crispy; not at all greasy/soggy like some places. Chutney was also great. My favorites were the paneer and ghee ones. Wife got the lamb wrap and it was also fantastic. The naan was crispy and charred on the outside but still super soft and flexible. Lamb was very moist and tender. Very flavorful but not overly spiced so you still get the "straw" flavor of the lamb. Cocktails were good as well. Very unique signatures. Having been back for dinner I will say that it gets expensive fast.

Awesome evening. Brought in some guests from out of town and wanted to show them a great meal and experience. Across the board, they all were amazed at the food and the taste of the dishes. Special kudos to the shrimp and coconut dish. The yellow sauce was a huge hit and popular around the table. Yum! Thank you for taking care of my guest who has celiacs. She felt comfortable and safe and loved how knowledgeable and accommodating the team was for her concerns. Thank you! That meant a lot for her

We visited Raag on a Friday evening around 6:30 pm. We were seated quickly and the severs were ever quick to come take drink orders. I ordered a gin martini with Hendricks and it was perfectly made with very generous portions. I was with a group of five people, so we decided to share some entrees to be able to try more things. We started with the break basket (with garlic naan, butter naan, and plan roti) and the scallops for an appetizer. The scallops were beautifully presented and had a great balance of grill and curry flavor. The lemon on top added a great acidity while the roe added the perfect amount of salinity. Highly recommend. For entrees we ordered the lamb roganjosh, butter chicken, and palak paneer. My one complaint overall is that each dish came with a ton of sauce and only 4-5 pieces of protein. I wish there were more substance to some of the dishes. The lamb roganjosh was great - the lamb was tender, the sauce hearty and spicy, packed with flavor. The butter chicken was the table favorite. It was creamy and rich with a great tomato flavor. And finally the palak paneer was probably the least favorite of the three entrees, but it had promise. The sauce was beautiful and thick, packed with a nice spice and creamy rich spinach flavor. The paneer however, was hard and didn't feel like it had been heated up. It wasn't creamy like I've had in other dishes. Again, there wasn't a lot of paneer in the sauce - I would have loved to see much more paneer in every bite. Each dish was served with rice and if you ask, they will bring more to help soak up every drop of the sauces. We ended up having some leftovers for the five of us, so portions are generous and pricing is very reasonable. I love this addition to 50th and France and I highly recommend!

How do they manage heat? I like all Indian cuisine, but especially like Andhra Pradesh style and very hot curries. Thanks.

I got a cocktail that I cannot actually remember anymore (a good reminder to do reviews ASAP) :( I remember it was fruity (strawberry?), light, and yummy. My friend got the Golden Raspberry Beret which was more whiskey heavy. I liked it though, good amount of raspberry and cream and the popping strawberry boba were sooo good! I got an Ube Twister with Coconut Snow and added Lychee popping boba, completely delicious. About 30-40 min later we got seated upstairs in the bar after being added to the waitlist by phone number. Super cute place, very cozy and low light. My drink was something with Japanese whiskey, raspberry, and popping boba. A bit heavy on the whiskey for my taste but my friend's fruity little cocktail was much better. Sadly we were seated after the kitchen closed so we didn't get to try any of the food, but will definitely be back!

I came here a few days ago during their "crabby hour" from 8-10 pm and we all each ordered our set of a truffle fries, a Granada slider, and a mahi mahi taco. The fries were incredible. They were super crispy, cooked perfectly and I love truffle with fries. The best part however was the aioli that came paired with it. It had a citrusy, umami flavor that was just so incredible I would have taken a whole jar home if I was able to. Absolutely perfect and can make any dish. The Granada slider was also awesome. It was bigger than I expected and included that wonderful aioli again, along with some greens, the patty, manchego cheese, and bacon. It was delicious and once again that aioli is just perfect and it was a much larger amount of food than I was expecting. I also had the mahi mahi taco as well which was good, but not my favorite. I'd probably try something instead of this again next time. Also, the staff is super funny and really awesome. We had Cassie (sorry if I got this wrong) and she was super kind, made a lot of jokes, and even gave us a tour of the theatre when we asked if we could take a peak to see what it looks like. Incredible service, we had a really great time with her. We all are definitely going to come back soon, and maybe even come for a show! But the food alone is worth a visit for sure in my opinion. I strongly recommend the Granada Slider and you have to get the truffle fries with the aioli. A side note the menu is a little confusing as they are transitioning menus so be patient as the staff have no control and the food is worth the confusion.

It had a 1920's art deco vibe which I love. We had a reservation but the host seemed to struggle to find it, almost even questioning the validity of it even though I showed her proof they texted confirmation. Thankfully they gave us a table right away anyways. The restaurant is attached to a theatre so it gets really busy prior to showtimes and the service becomes slow or non existent. At one point it even seemed that they forgot about us and the manger noticed so she made sure to get our food to us. The server later apologized and was very kind but I couldn't help but notice she took the time to chit chat with coworkers while we waited. When the theatre performance started it loudly traveled into the restaraunt through the walls. While it didn't bother me I can see how this may bother others. I'm actually glad we went because we learned about the theatre and would like to attend a show sometime. I just wouldn't recommend going to the restaraunt unless you are seeing a show there.

Nightingale was packed, but fortunately, once two patrons saw my face from the bar, they quickly paid their bill and left. My face often compels people to vacate crowded establishments in Minneapolis, and we often find seats. After grabbing the two seats, we ordered wine and a wonderful Amaro-based cocktail. Jules was our bartender/server, and although he was crazy busy, he found time to be gracious to us. We ordered the meatball appetizer, halibut, and the Nightingale hamburger. My halibut was sublime, cooked perfectly, and it wasn't drowned in sauce. Bravo! The meatballs were tender and delicious, but the hamburger was not memorable. It was good, not great. Despite all the accolades above, when the bill came, I was charged two dollars after requesting a cucumber slice for my Pimms Cup. Perhaps the source of this pettiness came from the kitchen, but it wasn't smart, because the $2.00 charge placed a shroud over my experience. The bill was $125, and because of the petty two-buck charge, I only left a $25 tip. I was going to leave a $30 tip. I will sadly remember those 2 bucks forever. It was a myopic move and a passive-aggressive way to handle my request. In my birthplace home of NYC, a bartender would have said, "Getting a cucumber slice is a pain in the rear, would you mind skipping it?" My response, "Sure, it's not a big deal."

The service was genuinely friendly and pleasant throughout our visit, which went a long way. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting. I tried the NY Strip special, which was fine but nothing memorable - exactly what you'd expect, no more, no less. The oysters were disappointing for the price point; the quality just wasn't there. The mushroom bruschetta similarly underwhelmed - it felt like it was missing something to make it stand out. The bright spot? The drinks were solid and well-crafted. I wanted to rate this higher based on the atmosphere and service alone, but at the end of the day, the food has to deliver. With so many great options in Minneapolis, Nightingale needs to step up its culinary game to match its lovely setting. I'd consider returning for drinks, but probably not for dinner.
