I have been to many MN restaurants but this one blew me away!! I was in the mood for some curry and came across this restaurant. I had the chicken Chettinad and it was a great portion size with the perfect amount of spice/flavor combo. The garlic naan was to die for. Our server was also very attentive and professional. We popped into Raag during the Edina Art Fair, so the whole area was already a bit chaotic. Inside, the food came out quickly and our server was absolutely great, but the front of the house was a bit of a different story. The young host was running around looking very flustered, which made the vibe feel way more chaotic. Thankfully, it looked like the owner noticed and helped take over organizing the staff and getting guests arranged at tables. We noticed they have a really fun cafe setup called The Corner Café with its own window in the corner. It was closed when we were there, but it turns out they actually operate as a full-service artisan coffee shop during the morning and afternoon, serving Spyhouse coffee and pastries before shifting entirely to fine dining at night! For dinner, my husband ordered the sticky cauliflower as an appetizer and declared it "the best cauliflower 'chicken' bites he's ever had"--he also absolutely loved the white sauce it came with. He also got the mango yuzu drink which was super refreshing. For entrees, we ordered the coconut curry, which had a great flavor and wasn't overly sweet (which can sometimes happen when a kitchen overdoes the coconut milk). I ordered the Delhi butter chicken. The waiter mentioned that their spice scale is a "Minnesota spice" scale, so I felt safe upgrading to medium since I usually order mild. The ambiance is pretty good, and the aesthetics of food presentation was also very good. But that's where it sort of stops - food itself wasn't very impressive. The blackened chicken was very dry - if that was intended, then it should have been served with a chutney on the side. I had to separately ask for a dip and was provided a very spicy sauce. Since the establishment was clearly labeling themselves as fancy Indian food, it was very clear that they put a lot of thought into presentation. Most of the food they served looked gorgeous, to the point that some may think they were overshadowing the flavor. But I can confidently say that in terms of flavor, many of the dishes were extremely on point as well. Items like the blackened chicken, the tomato dal, the butter chicken, and the palak paneer were very flavorful. The blackened chicken was juicy and tender, too, on top of containing abundant flavor. The samosas contained an abundant amount of potatoes and peas. I could taste a good amount of tomatoes and coconut milk in the butter chicken, which was very creamy. I could also taste very strong garam masala in the palak paneer, which was a great thing. The butter naan was an excellent addition because the flavorful curry definitely needed more than rice to evoke its full potential, and naan bread was perfect for such. In terms of dessert, the mango mousse was incredible! Its soft but solid texture made it very easy to break up and consume, while maintaining its shape without collapsing. The saffron, milk powder, and cream altogether offered a very integral taste that had lots of depth. I honestly want to try all the desserts on their menu, too, like the coconut pannacotta and the basundi pistachio tiramisu, because they both looked amazing on the menu. While this establishment is not one of those places you visit that often, it is perfect for a date night because it has clean and relatively fancy decor along with flavorful food and can evoke a romantic vibe. Raag never disappoints, Absolutely blown away! I came back after more than 5 months, and it's still serves up the most authentic Indian cuisine I've had in Minnesota--hands down. I tried the Palak Paneer and Lamb Biryani, and both dishes were nothing short of amazing. The Palak Paneer was creamy, flavorful, and perfectly spiced, while the Lamb Biryani had that deep, aromatic blend of spices with tender, juicy lamb cooked to perfection. You can really taste the love and authenticity in every bite. The service was outstanding--attentive, warm, and knowledgeable about the menu. The ambiance was modern yet cozy, making it great for both casual dinners and special occasions. Bonus points for plenty of parking--a rare win in the twin cities or may be even the mid west! Service was great- just some advice, leave a drink menu on the table vs taking them all, in case we want to order different drinks. Enjoyed a delicious brunch at Raag. The food is perfectly proportioned and a visual treat, with very good variety. This isn't a typical Indian restaurant- it is modern, upscale, and "progressive" so to speak. Enjoyed trying a chai-tini martini to start with. For mains, our party had various dishes including chole bhatura, Szechuan dosa, dhokla, and noodle dishes. The meal was preceded by a unique sensory aromatic experience on the table! While the dosas were flavorful and unique, these were not the large crispy dosas evoked into memory from traditional South Indian restaurants. All the other items were very flavorful and tasty. Raag amazed me. This place is full of flavors and surprises. We came here for brunch and ordered several items from the brunch menu. The Dosa was made live and we could see the making. We ordered the Szechuan flavor and they are not shy on the amount of hot sauce on the dose. Chicken Tikka omelet, chicken waffle, puffy bread with chickpeas, cake, all the desserts. I do wish their website gives a clearer menu as we usually try to identify dishes we want to order. Perhaps we weren't looking at the right spot. All the dishes we shared was amazing!! Love the concept and this is truly the only place with a mix of both traditional and modern, fusion dishes in the city! We tried the lamb keema bao, butter chicken empanada for starters which we loved. The bao was our favorite for sure. So unique and delicious! For mains we got the shrimp moilee, eggplant mousakka, and lamb rogan Josh. The shrimp was some of the best curry we've had and I loved the eggplant as well. The pieces of lamb in the rogan Josh were tough and chewy, but everything else was great. I also had a chai which came hot and was well spiced. The gravy has been changed and so it doesn't taste as good anymore! I did enjoy the mini idly on the menu! Ambiance is great as always. I just wish they didn't change the food recipes. Vegetarian thali was mediocre. The stew wasn't as flavorful and the garlic naan came out not that crispy, which is how I prefer. I hope they go back to their old recipes. Had them twice now. Once for takeout and once for brunch dosa. Both times are amazing with great food, friendly staff, and a relaxing atmosphere. The dosa (rice and lentil crepes) are perfectly light and crispy; not at all greasy/soggy like some places. Chutney was also great. My favorites were the paneer and ghee ones. Wife got the lamb wrap and it was also fantastic. The naan was crispy and charred on the outside but still super soft and flexible. Lamb was very moist and tender. Very flavorful but not overly spiced so you still get the "straw" flavor of the lamb. Cocktails were good as well. Very unique signatures. We ordered potato samosas (not pictured) that were AMAZING. flaky pastry on the outside and a creamy potato inside with great, spices and good heat. We ordered the shareable palak paneer, and the red lentils both medium spice. the palak paneer had a great smooth texture, but was not spicy or warm in anyway. the paneer tasted homemade, which was a highlight but the aforementioned attributes did not make this a very memorable dish. The red lentils were very good. Flavors, temperature and heat were right on point for the medium spice level. We ordered the 3 naan baskets and it was really quite good. The service was very attentive with the water, maybe too much with lingering with having us order pretty quickly because it is such a big menu. I've been to Raag a couple of times - often for birthdays. We went recently and were left feeling disappointed. I made the mistake of not checking the receipt before paying. We were charged twice for rice (which was supposed to come with the entrees we ordered). We were also celebrating a birthday this past week which we noted in the reservation. We visited Raag on a Friday evening around 6:30 pm. We were seated quickly and the severs were ever quick to come take drink orders. I ordered a gin martini with Hendricks and it was perfectly made with very generous portions. I was with a group of five people, so we decided to share some entrees to be able to try more things. We started with the break basket (with garlic naan, butter naan, and plan roti) and the scallops for an appetizer. The scallops were beautifully presented and had a great balance of grill and curry flavor. The lemon on top added a great acidity while the roe added the perfect amount of salinity. Highly recommend. For entrees we ordered the lamb roganjosh, butter chicken, and palak paneer. My one complaint overall is that each dish came with a ton of sauce and only 4-5 pieces of protein. I wish there were more substance to some of the dishes. The lamb roganjosh was great - the lamb was tender, the sauce hearty and spicy, packed with flavor. The butter chicken was the table favorite. It was creamy and rich with a great tomato flavor. And finally the palak paneer was probably the least favorite of the three entrees, but it had promise. The sauce was beautiful and thick, packed with a nice spice and creamy rich spinach flavor. The paneer however, was hard and didn't feel like it had been heated up. It wasn't creamy like I've had in other dishes. Again, there wasn't a lot of paneer in the sauce - I would have loved to see much more paneer in every bite. Each dish was served with rice and if you ask, they will bring more to help soak up every drop of the sauces. We ended up having some leftovers for the five of us, so portions are generous and pricing is very reasonable. I love this addition to 50th and France and I highly recommend! read more

Came here to celebrate my friend's Birthday and it turned out amazing! First off the owner was super friendly and I even called ahead to ask if they would allow us to bring in a cake and they said it was totally okay. Once we got there the owner let us store the cake in the fridge while we were eating dinner and then brought it out for dessert. They even put the candles on top that we had brought and played a cute birthday song while bringing the cake out! Besides the amazing service, the food was so good! Everything had a ton of flavor from all the different spices they use. They also have different spice levels to choose from which was nice to have. I tend to like really spicy dishes while my friends were more into mild spice so it worked out really well for us. All in all I think our favorite dishes were the potato samosas and the lamb shank! The good: this restaurant has nice decor and and setup. The food was good and there was a great variety to choose from. I also really liked the Raag mule I ordered (so much that I had two). The not so good: it was confusing that the entrees are listed as "share" sized but in reality they were actually on the small side, even for 1 person. Also, I wish the waiter gave us a run down of how many appetizers and entrees we should order for our party size to give us a better understanding when we were ordering. There was only one food runner for a full restaurant on a busy night. Not sure if someone called out or not but he was pulled in too many directions. For example, we ordered Samosas and they were served with an empty sauce dish. It was another 15 min or so before the waiter stopped by and we asked for the sauce that usually comes with the samosas. read more

Raag is a beautiful restaurant with good service and some great dishes, though some are misses, and all are a bit pricey. Raag is very approachable for those who aren't familiar with or comfortable with Indian food. Beautifully appointed with a bright full bar, and helpful servers who will answer your questions. Dishes are plated nicely and presented well, and represent many regions of India. To start, we tried the samosas, sliders and paneer skewers. All were quite good, and the samosas were some of the best I've ever had. The mains were a mixed bag, and all were overly sweet. The lentils were creamy and had a great flavor. The butter chicken was good and only a little too sweet. The dish that fell flat was the one they highly recommended - the spring vegetables and fig kofta. While it had good flavors, it was so sweet that it was hard to eat. At the end of the meal, everyone kept offering the leftovers of this dish to others. Overall, Raag is a nice experience that offers Indian flavors with a more western dining experience at Edina prices. read more

Really enjoyed my meal at Raag last night. We ordered the Raag Mule off the happy hour menu; was a fruitier version of a standard mule. We also ordered the Masala French Fries from the happy hour menu; really great cut and seasoned fries. Served with ketchup, but even better when dipped in the other dishes. Additional from the small bites happy hour menu I had to try the street style samosa - "so good" doesn't cover the sentiments of how much I enjoyed the dish and mint tamarind dip. We split the Delhi Butter Chicken and I loved that you can ask for what level of spice you want. I'd order this dish again. The chicken was so tender and I want to put the sauce on everything. Our server was very attentive and didn't pressure us to leave (we were catching up for several hours!). They had a mandolin (?) guitar player that was nice ambiance, but it did get a little loud.
