Last week I called because we need our Masticx replaced /redone around our pool. A man named Tom answered our call, and scheduled me for Monday January 27 at 2 pm. At 249 and no one here on Monday, I called the number,Tom answered and said "oh I put you down for Tuesday,ok we will see you tomorrow, which is today and I recieved a text reading: hello I spoke to our company owner and he said that Mastic replacement is to small of a job, so I can't make it today to give you a quote. When my wife and I bought our current home in 2018, we inherited a pretty ugly pool. When it finally came time to renovate our pool, we had a hard time finding a contractor that would take on a renovation job, or that would even get back to us with a quote after coming out to check our our project. That was not the case with RT Malin's, though. Dealing with their sales team was a breeze... Tom was great to work with and even provided some renderings of our renovated pool and yard. Once we decided to move forward, we had a pretty good experience overall. One of our only issues with Malin's was with the transition from sales to construction. Tom was non-responsive for a bit, and there was some miscommunication between sales and construction at the beginning of the project, but once Bobby (the owner and project manager) took over, things went pretty smoothly. Demo was quick and easy, but then we had to wait about a month for construction to start due to the holiday season and then some rainy days. The construction crews worked hard and took pride in their craftmanship. Unfortunately, we had an issue with the pool not being "square" at the deep end, and no one noticed it until the new coping had been poured, so we were kind of stuck with it as it was poured. So, if you have a renovation, double-check whether or not things are square before the coping is poured. Other than that, Bobby and his team were great! We had asked for our steps to be shortened and when they demo'ed them, it was discovered that the original pool builder didn't build the steps properly. Malin's remedied the issue and our new, shorter steps are an incredible improvement. Once the finishing touches were completed, Bobby was very helpful in getting the pool chemicals and our existing equipment started up. We had a few issues with the equipment (we kept our old equipment), but Bobby referred us to a technician who was able to come out the next day and get everything working perfectly. Overall, working with RT Malin's Pools was a great experience, and even though we had a few minor hiccups, I would definitely recommend working with them for any pool construction projects. (The hardscape and turf projects that we also did at the same time were completed by separate contractors, and not RT Malin's, although they did offer those services.) read more

We had a great experience overall with RT Malin's. We heard so many horror stories about pool contractors and we did experience that when shopping around to find someone to remodel our pool and backyard. We first spoke with Tom. He was extremely knowledgeable when going over our estimate. We started the remodel in April of 2021 and were mostly finished in July of 2021. It did take much longer than expected, but this was during a time when materials and labor were deeply affected by the pandemic. My husband and the owner had a few hiccups in communication, but overall I am extremely happy with the service, workmanship, and craftsmanship. Our Pool came out beautiful and Bobby and Jim have been very responsive and helped with so many issues after the pool was finished. About a year later one of our pool lights went out, and Bobby and Jim helped us out right away. I am recommending them to anyone who wants a new pool or a remodel. read more

My wife and I had a Pool/Spa, Patio, and Fire Pit built at the end of 2017 by Bobby at R.T. Malins Pools and are very pleased with how everything turned out. We found them by word of mouth through neighbors in the area and had them give us a design/estimate along with three other companies that we found here on Yelp. They weren't the cheapest nor were they the most expensive but right in the middle price-wise compared to the others. Being that this project was of a large scale and cost (for us at least) we had to find a contractor that we felt we "clicked" with and that listened to what we wanted with honest feedback when we needed it and would be able to guide us through the different options we had giving us pros and cons of each so we could make informed decisions. We found that Tom and Bobby could do that while the other companies we met with didn't leave us with a good impression in that regard. Tom is the designer and the person we initially met with and is excellent at getting your thoughts and ideas into the 3D rendering. He was also good about making changes to the design as we thought out and mulled over things. In the end, the 3D rendering is spot on to what we now have in our backyard! It was also important to us that we found a contractor that ran the job and was actively on site and didn't just pull random subs from a list to send over to our place at will. Communication was excellent and we were in the loop with each phase though these guys work so efficiently that you can't blink or they may end up waiting on you for your tile or plaster decisions. Bobby and Tom were also good about helping us with material choices and with a phone call, we were walking a few of our neighbors backyards that Bobby had recently built to see what different plasters look like at differing depths, if you don't know what I mean, you'll understand when you get to that decision and it may be the most difficult part of the build for you - decisions, decisions... Our entire project from beginning to end was scheduled to be 5 weeks which I initially said "I'll believe it when I see it" to and while they were 2 or 3 days over, I'll just write it off as the Thanksgiving holiday that caused it. Just over 5 weeks is nearly unheard of in pool building as I was getting 12-16 week time frames from other builders with their estimates. Bobby is well versed in job planning and he has the same crews doing each of his builds which seems to help with the timing, coordinating, and quality control of the projects. I can't recommend Bobby or Tom enough and think they are a bit of a hidden gem in the contracting business, they're good guys. This Yelp page doesn't appear to be actively ran by them but somehow here it is so I thought I'd leave them a review here. I believe R.T. Malins DOES have a Facebook page with plenty of reviews and they seem to rely more on happy customers giving referrals to others than on paid advertising. I don't have a Facebook page so I've been unable to review them until now. If you see this, thanks again Bobby and Tom! We are enjoying our pool immensely during this heat wave! read more

Start to finish they were responsive and great to work with. The build took about 6 weeks with virtually no down time. Quality of work and attention to detail was nice to see. Bobby uses the same crews for his builds and we had no problems with communication and coordination. To this day, both Bobby and Tom are easy to reach and help with any questions we have. Getting a pool was a huge decision for us. From design, to staying within budget, to getting our dream pool, owner Bobby and his team were there guiding me through it all. I have heard a lot of horror stories about pool builders and Bobby's team really put my mind at ease. First, they only commit to start when they have the equipment and the manpower lined up. Second, in my experience, they start, then they bill, you pay, then they build another phase, then you pay. They do not mess around with asking for money up front. Third, all of their subs are upheld to the same high level of professionalism and skill that I could not have been happier with all of the work. Lastly, they don't give you the bare minimum, they give you the bells and whistles even with their competitive price. I didn't know I was getting things like the auto filler, the pebbles with the special abalone shells, the deep heating, the concrete matched covers, even the pool vacuum just to name a few. Along the way I was incredibly impressed with their willingness to go above and beyond. Even the plumbing were color matched to the equipment, that's the attention to detail I received. From breaking ground to filling with water: around 10 weeks, and the permit process from my city (Claremont) was smooth sailing the whole way. I am a big fan of RT Malins, and Bobby and his team are as good as a builder's gonna get, not to mention he's been in this business for decades. His foreman Jim has been by the house a few more times after completion to teach me how to maintain my pool, and program something for me. They really stand by their product and quality and it really feels like I've joined their extended pool family and I we are so happy with our pool and jacuzzi. These guys know pools. Our permit was received June 8th, and digging was initiated June 9th. They were on it. Truly pool construction experts, with a team digging, completing rebar and working concrete like the absolute professionals they are. Backyard was quite a mess as expected. Although we were just a bit behind schedule, we were filling that pool July 23rd. The final product is very good. The pool is A+. Pool functions just as promised, with digital setting that we manage from our phone. Vacuum is working great, and the company owner has given us a great chemistry lesson to manage pool water :) I was surprised that final finish around the pool, not the pool itself, was not what I expected. I did understand the contract did not include landscaping, but our yard was left quite a few steps from finish, let alone landscaping. Make sure you read the contract carefully as there was not a great deal of discussion on types of concrete finishes available, or what final landscape might look like, mostly recommendations from designer noted on the company pool plan. I opted to only do concrete in some areas, and that left me at a disadvantage. We did not agree on what final elevation around the pool might look like and we were left bringing in soil after the completion (all in the contract, so just be aware). If you have a concrete surround, I don't think you would have any problem. I was also surprised that ALL payments were expected before we finished. The contract stated payments were to be managed by PM, and I should have protected myself better with a final payment after approval. After meeting with several pool contractors, my husband and I signed a contract with R.T. Malins. From our first meeting with Tom, all of our questions were answered and our concerns were eased. While we heard from many companies that the project would take 9-12 weeks to complete, Tom said they would have it completed in just 4 weeks. They began pool construction on July 24th. The owner, Bobby, was on the job everyday to check in on the progress, give us the run down of what to expect for the day, and answer any questions that we had. The contractors that were at our house worked diligently day in and day out. The masonry crew was incredible and flawlessly created the puckercrete look that my husband and I requested. The project was completed without any issues and our first day swimming was Friday, August 17 (just 24 days from the day they broke ground). We can not recommend R.T. Malins enough! I can't say enough good things about RT Malin's Pools. I was referred to RT Malin's Pools by a family friend, I was doing a remodel of my existing 23 year old pool. Tom came to my house to discuss what I wanted and provided a quote. (1 of 6 I got from pool contractors.). Tom was easy to talk to and answered every question I asked. He explained that Bobby would be at the job site everyday and explain what was going to happen that day and answer any questions I had. After receiving the 6 quotes, I did a spreadsheet and decided to go with RT Malin's. RT Malin's was the lowest quote but that was not my deciding factor. My main concern was getting a high quality job and being satisfied when the job was done. Being the lowest bidder was another benefit. The job started on December 2nd and was completed on December 16th. The remodel consisted of putting in a Baja shelf, retile the entire pool and spa, installing an automatic pool filler, redoing the mastic and new pebble tech. Bobby called or text every morning of work and would explain what was to be done that day and what time the crew would arrive. Bobby was also at the job site every working day. RT Malin's pool workers have worked for the company many years. They did outstanding work. They showed up on time and were neat and cleaned up at the end of every work day. Upon completion of the remodel I was 100% satisfied with the pool remodel. I made the right choice going with RT Malin's Pools and highly recommend RT Malin's to anyone having a pool remodel done. I had both Tom and Bobby's cell phone numbers and could call either one with any questions I had.
