Based on my experience with California Poolman, I would recommend them. My pool needed to be resurfaced, and after getting a number of quotes, I chose California Poolman. Their quote was fair and reasonable, and they set up a schedule that worked for me. His team was professional - they demo'd the old plaster, repiped, and installed new electrical. What I really liked was Andrew's communication - he always told me where we were in the build, what days that he would be there, and what days things needed time to set. After the pool and filter installation was complete, he returned to help me understand how the new filtration system would operate. California Poolmen did an incredible job for us they updated the spa and pool which needed to be replastered as well as have the 30-year-old cracked concrete decking removed. They also repaired an outdated BBQ and gave us a new paver and travertine decking. Andrew the Owner was super informative, involved throughout the whole process. Ruben had great attention to detail when he worked. Although we had an efficient existing layout, they put together a great color scheme and were very helpful in helping us make good choices during the material selection. In short very much impressed us. We also added a pool heater and new filter and redid the plumbing above ground for the pool equipment. The most important thing that they did also was to add drainage to the deck so when it rains, we won't have flooding on the deck. All in all, they were not the cheapest bid, BUT they did all the work well and on time. All the loose ends were completed to make us another satisfied customer. Rob and Andrew help turn my drained pool from a green swamp to a beautiful pool. They provided a more than fair quote for a replaster and tile job. I was amazed that they were able to start the job quickly and finish on schedule. Our pool and spa are finally finished and we're ecstatic with the result. Construction started at the end of July and completed in November. The pool and spa look exactly like the design. We are very happy with the result and cannot wait until the weather gets warmer so we can enjoy it. Tony is our main contact throughout the process and we could not be happier. He always made himself available for any questions and concerns. Tony is very knowledgeable and helpful in every way. Whenever Tony was not available, he would ask his partner, Andrew, to assist us. Andrew has been a pleasure to work with as well. Whenever there was an issue, Tony was always there to resolve it. For example, the height of the spa benches were too low for my wife. They're the perfect height for me, but a couple of inches too low for her petite frame. Tony scheduled his workers to come and raise the two benches to accommodate her height at no extra charge. This further proves that they are willing to go the extra step (pun intended) to make their customer happy. California Poolmen also worked with our City to get the proper permits and we've had multiple inspections by the City. After each inspection, there would be some kind of minor corrections requested by the inspector. Tony would send his men to work on the necessary changes so that we would be in compliance with the City's rather strict guidelines. Everyone who came to work was very professional and friendly. We greatly appreciated that the workers always cleaned up well after every stage of construction and did not leave a mess. When it comes to pricing, California Poolmen is very competitive. We've gotten bids from other builders and they want to nickel and dime us for every little thing. I like how California Poolmen sees the big picture and was willing to work with us on the design without over charging us for every simple request. If you are interested in building a pool or getting a pool makeover, you should definitely give them a call. Our pool was finished, a little behind, not because of them. Oddly enough, still in the drought, we were almost finished and then the rain came and it poured for about a month. Then it had to dry up, then they went back at it. I'm still finishing decorating, but these are a few pictures that I've taken really showing the pool, not the whole back yard. Once it gets a little more decoration, I'll ad some updated pictures. I would highly recommend them and I would gladly show my pool. The only thing I would highly advise someone that is going to get one, make sure you have a good over fill set up and you have a fixed faucet to fill the pool, located some where out of sight. With all my years in building and theirs, some how we missed it. I'm lucky to have a hose bib not more then 10 ft from the pool. Our over fill drain isn't bad, but it could be better. The only other thing is if you have concrete coping figure out your finish look before it is poured. You can address it later, but it is easier if it is done sooner. They took into mind greatly what we intended our pool to be, a hang out/splash pool. Not diving and training, so its 3 ft at the ends with a bench at each end, and slopes to 5 ft in the middle. Great for laps, pool volley ball, and spring until fall with out heating it, it hovers around 80 degrees. With the app, you can control the lights, heater, hot tub and it's easy to use. read more

I just want to share a few photos of our remodel that was completed by California Poolman. Our experience we had with this company from the initial phone call to setup the appointment to the completion of the work was a very good experience. Our first contact with Andrew, as we discussed the remodel plans, made us feel very comfortable, as he was very knowledgeable. He answered our questions and was able to assist us in our decisions. He was very transparent to let us know if the designs we planned would work out or not. Unlike other companies, he did not try to con us to do more work that we didn't need. During our discussion, he helped us design plans that worked best for our family. After signing the contract, we met with Tony, as well as, the rest of the team. Tony kept us informed about the project throughout the entire process, which lasted for about nine weeks. Whenever we had questions, he would always get back to us in a timely manner. He made sure the team did the work we planned and did it correctly. In fact, when something was incorrect, it was redone and we didn't even notice it was done incorrectly. This shows how this company is accountable and value their work. The team was always responsive to texts and phone calls whenever we had questions about the project. This company (Tony) scored a perfect 100% for our pool. He came and listened to our needs. He gave us great suggestions without forcing his ideas. We were really torn over the tile and coping and went with his ideas. Oh my gosh!!! His design of pebble tek Tahoe blue with the tile and coping are perfect!! You actually see the same colors in the pebble that are in the tiles and coping. No clashing of colors at all. They were so clean and neat we could still use the patio as they worked for 2 1/2 weeks. Andrew was absolutely amazing to work with! He and Ruben completed a tile repair on our spa with such excellent craftsmanship! Our initial contact was with Rob, but Andrew handled all the scheduling and repair recommendations, and he and Ruben completed the tile replacement quickly. They were flexible with a time-change request and made several other suggestions of needed repairs with absolutely no pressure. Their cost was so much lower than another company's estimate had been. 1. Our pool still has streaks, swirls, and splotchiness in the plaster. 2. They designed the jets where the leaves on top stay around our stairs instead of making their way to the skimmer. 3. They didn't offer me a bottom drain which would help in the cleanliness of the bottom of our pool. We have a pool cleaning service once per week, and it's filthy the next day even tho we don't have any trees immediately around us. So now we have to get an automatic vacuum that will have to run a couples times per day. 4. The multi-colored light they installed was $3100 to make it to code and is very hit or miss. The electrical wiring was messed up on the circuit breaker at first. It still doesn't come on all the time. 5. They left a bunch of debris after they asked for the final payment, and I don't think they would've come if I hadn't called a few times after they kept missing the day they said they would come clean up. 6. I was told I would get a brand new state-of-the-art pump. He'll point to the whole system and really sell it. But they don't replace the filter housing (the big brown container in the picture. It was old and ugly, and I thought that would be a part of the pump that would be replaced. No, that's more money. I didn't know until they were done.) 7. I asked for options on concealing the pump. They said it would come with a cover. Great! No it doesn't. I forget what excuse they gave. 8. This smaller pool remodel was $20k. Replaster, new lines and skimmer, salt water, new pump, light. NO COPING which is the rim of the pool. That was like another $4k or something. So the concrete they use on the outside of the coping doesn't match and it all just looks terrible. See picture. 9. There are white stains all over the coping. Sloppy job. A man named John comes out and writes up the contract, and then you won't see him again. He'll make it seem inconvenient if you call him for concerns. Tony is nice, and he'll lead the actual project. The picture is after running the pump for an hour on a higher speed and after I brushed the bottom of pool hoping to kick up the dirt to go into the skimmer. We did a complete remodel of our pool and decking last year, this was a long awaited Dream of ours which came to fruition commencing January of 2022. We thought we We're going with an outstanding pool remodel company, but our dream turned into a nightmare which is still going on in 2023. I read another review, which is very similar to what we are experiencing, so I am compelled to write my own to warn other prospective clients of a very disturbing pattern. First of all I will say that the craftsmanship on our pool design is beyond what we hoped this is all because of the outstanding craftsmanship of Maestro and his son who did all the tile work and the flagstone coping and stair work. Where our issues lie, the jacuzzi which was added to our pool has two water descents, which one of them is almost non existent just a small trickle of water, tried over and over again with Tony our project manager and owner of company have been sending texts since Last November which none have been answered. The other owner Andrew also knows of this issue he was at our home toward the end if our year long remodel, he pointed it out himself so he is aware but nothing has been done, we have also talked And texted with Rob who keeps saying it will be addressed, Andrew said ASAP but weeks later nothing. We had spent over 100k dollars on this pool remodel, it seems once they are done they don't care anymore. They have their money and they don't care about their customer satisfaction We wish we had never gone with them. Now we have to pay MORE money to have the jacuzzi water descent fixed by another company. We will also be addressing this with the Better Business Bureau. read more

All I have to say is WOW! I called numerous pool contractors for our pool remodel and were given A lot of estimates and not only did California Poolman come in the lowest of all the others but they offered so many more options in my budget than any other company offered. Their honesty is truly what won me over. John, an older gentlemen is the one that did our estimate. He is one awesome guy, never did he once pressure us into getting more things or trying to upgrade us on something we didn't need. He actually took time and sat down with my Wife and I , and explained the break down costs for everything that they were going to do. We quickly learned how much the other companies were trying to over charge us for the same thing. Some companies were close to Poolman's cost but most were way pricier. Again , we chose Poolman because they way do business..... very family oriented, honest and trustworthy. And we are happy we chose them. When it came to the the actual work Tony was the man in charge for my project . Tony made sure the project went smoothly always kept in contact with me, even gave me his personal cell for any questions or concerns! I really don't know of many contractors that do that. Tony also help with designs and gave me some free upgrades for the pool, which i was so grateful for since we had a tight budget. In the end what it really comes down to is that California Poolman really cares about their work and also the people they are working for. They really make you feel like family and also treat you that way too. They also had the best warranty out of all the other companies too. I really Thank Tony and the whole California Poolman team for the great work, the great customer service and just being great people in general. Adam You Rock !!! Thank you California Poolman, delivered exactly what I was trying to do with my project. Swapped a 1.5 HP single stage motor to Hayward MaxFlo VS variable speed pump. It is true, the usage savings are true. By finding the right RPM you will lower your total usage. Think of an Electric car, if you only had one speed at 115 miles per hour the battery charge won't last as long as different speeds for different driving around town. Same thing with a pump motor. Adam also installed an Intelibrite LED light controller, adding some conduit and wiring so the switch is chest high so no bedding down to switch colors. Adam was prompt and timely and like with most retrofits, there are always curve balls. Adam resolved everything to a high standard. read more

About four days later received a text from his salesman Rob. Rob just asked for my availability and my address, after that no follow up text or reply to my text asking about the status of apt. We did a major renovation of our backyard and pool through California Poolman and I really can't say enough good things about this company, they completed the project early this year. I had several quotes from other companies and theirs was right in the same ballpark or a little lower but because a friend had recommended them I hired them and couldn't be happier with my choice. Tony and his team are simply the best, they never tried to upsell me and when I wanted changes to the plans he was totally fair. I ended up redoing our boundary walls which wasn't in the original plan and Tony was very flexible with me. The crew they send out is extremely polite and friendly. Adam and his team are top-notch. They are responsive and professional, informed and thorough. From the first visit to the estimate to the accepted bid to getting the work done, everything was fast and easy and it was done right. Our pool is already light-years better, the water is cleaner and the heater and pumps are far more efficient. We received several bids from different contractors but went with California Poolmen because we felt that we could trust John, the salesman. He is an older person who speaks loud and asked what our race was. We didn't get offended because we liked him, but thought that the question was irrelevant to the project. After we passed sales, Tony handled the project management. We had high hopes as we've read many good reviews. Unfortunately, our experience was totally different. We had $18,000 worth of project and Tony said he is "too busy" to answer our questions and calls. He also changed a project scope a day before the actual work and asked us to sign off with such a limited time (during a workday). Regardless of whether the change is "more expensive" according to him, the short notice caught us off guard and we were displeased. But rather than being apologetic, he was very condescending and defensive. From that point on, he stopped answering and returning calls - except when he needs to collect payment. Tony didn't even return our calls regarding equipment startup that was part of the proposal that we paid for. We had to hire a different vendor to go through the equipment that California Poolmen installed for us, because California Poolmen never returned our call. Despite this unprofessionalism, we paid the entire amount on time, all the time without giving them any hard time. If we could do it all over again, we would bring our business to another contractor who is not too busy to answer a paying customer's questions and has the decency to work professionally. Unfortunately, they have lost our referrals and we have plenty of them. Andrew is okay. He at least responded to yelp message, but he does not do much since everything is handled by Tony. Poor communication, poor planning, and unprofessional. What a shame! read more

I put a request for a quote out to fix my pool pump. Within a few minutes, I got a response and estimate from California Poolmen. The next morning, Mike was at my door. By noon, I had an amazing new pool pump cleaning my pool along with several other issues that needed repair, including a broken circuit. The quote was beyond reasonable, as were the other issues that he addressed and gave me the cost before repair. I have found my pool repair guy who also happens to work on electrical and plumbing issues. I am beyond happy and satisfied with California Poolmen. read more

Had a complete backyard remodel. Pool, new retainer wall took out concrete added pavers, built a fireplace. Pool is nice coping is discoloring around edges grout around pavers washing away in some places, Small crack in mantel on fireplace. Remodel is one year old. At 6 months I started communicating with Tony however he says he's very busy. After paying over100,00 dollars to them I'd expect a call and ask how things were holding up and if there's any problems. Nope. I got one return call and was told to send pictures. Never got a call or text back to my calls for help. I'm not asking for anything I haven't paid for. They started out great however after they've been paid in full zero customer follow up or service. So you may or may not get good customer service after job is done. read more

For starters I would like to say that our pool turned out well but it's everything else that led to my pool being finished that didn't hold my standards . I was told our pool needed coping because it might deteriorate as they demolish my plaster . So we payed 1,500 for loose parts of coping . Later my pool was finished and we discover that the plaster wasn't even done in the first place which means I could of save 1,500 . I call Adam and he gets guys to come and fix the problem which they did very poorly . I never got a call from Adam since he was the one We did business with to see if I was satisfied with his people's work . Never got and apologized for missed work .Adam never bother to stop by as he said . The customer service was just not there for me . Lastly let me mentioned the mess the guys left that they didn't bother to clean after themselves . Customer service is important especially when you are paying for it . I decided to turn to Yelp to get a quote on remodeling my pool after being disappointed by my friend's pool referrals. California Poolman looked great on Yelp so I decided to give them a call and I am so glad I did. I had John come over to give the quote and he was so easy to work with. Very easy going, not pushy and he gave me a VERY reasonable written quote during our first meeting. Not sure why other guys need 5 days to get back to you? Then I dealt with Tony during the construction phase and he was awesome! His guys knocked out the job fast, super clean and professional. Replaced the old plaster with pebble tec, replaced old coping with poured in place concrete coping, new tile, new pool light, new pump, new filter and during the project we decided to add a baja shelf for a very reasonable price.
