The stainless steel diner has been well cared for and updated enough to make it more comfortable for staff and customers. There are some tables out front and two different seating areas inside (it's bigger than it looks). All the cooking is done behind the counter, where you can see it all happening. It can be a bit noisy as the metal spatulas hit the grill, but you can still have a reasonable conversation. It's a busy place, and the servers are efficient, with a no nonsense approach to taking your orders. The menu is large, with lots of traditional favorites (no avocado toast here). There were two pages of breakfast items, and it was a tough decision. We ordered a number of different items: corned beef hash, pancakes, and potato pancakes with eggs and sausage. It did not take very long to get our food. Very good portions, everything was plenty hot, and all flavorful. Everyone was happy with their choices. The corned beef hash was not the kind you get from a can. It was large, fresh pieces. The pork sausages were plump and well seasoned. The poached eggs were perfect. My only complaint: I ordered my potato pancakes extra crispy, but they didn't seem "extra" to me (extra extra crispy next time). The regular pancakes were good, but not fluffy enough to be "excellent". A very nice place for breakfast, and somewhere we would return to.

The staff were as friendly as they can be and made us feel like regulars, regardless of it being our first time in. We visited for a late breakfast with multiple kids (4 years and younger). The staff kept all the adults caffeinated and went above and beyond to make sure the kids had a great experience! (Ie, making sure they had drinks, plenty of napkins, and ever some cookies after they ate) The food was all very good! The table got a verity of options and all plates were left empty. You can really tell that this dinner puts in effort with their food. They even offered numerous HOMEMADE baked goods like breads, pies, cakes and cookies that's to their on-site baker. I will be returning to cozy kitchen in the future whenever I am in town visiting family. I highly recommend you visit if you're looking for someplace cozy to eat.

Solid breakfast- eggs cooked just as ordered- no complaints. Love a runny egg- and dip their homemade toast in it- yum! Mexican scramble was tasty - chorizo not greasy. Service was also friendly and super efficient, with food made quickly. We were also happy to see there was a steady crowd coming in on a Tuesday night and the staff had no problems making sure everyone was taken care of. We started with the Taste of Manila Egg Rolls because we were so excited to see that something lived on from that restaurant which we miss. The egg rolls were quite tasty and the slaw and sauce just pulled everything together. For our main meals we had the M&O Melt with onion rings and the Red Hot Spicy Clucker with fries. I was happy the the spicy chicken sandwich actually had some heat to it and was full of flavor. The fries were also nicely fried. The M&O Melt was also tasty, and the onion rings were a favorite. Fried nicely so that they had a crunchy bite. It's always a plus when the onion doesn't come out all at once or separate from the breading. These were quite tasty and we definitely recommend the curry ketchup. It added a whole new flavor dimension to the onion rings and fries. Overall, can't wait to try some more menu items next time we're in the area. Definitely recommend.

What a cool little diner…read more My grandma lives over in Kingston, right next door to Markesan, and I usually get up there (I live about an hour and a half away in Milwaukee) at least five or six times a year. Every time, no matter what, I make sure to stop at Sandy's. It's very old school inside (in a good way), and the atmosphere takes you back to a time when small-town diners were still a big part of a community. The service is always impeccable, the food is great, and the prices are so cheap compared to some other restaurants in the area, especially the overpriced places in Green Lake. The clientele is mostly locals on their lunch breaks or getting breakfast/dinner after finishing a shift at the factory in town, and they almost always strike up a conversation with my grandma and I and are very nice. Such a gem to have in Markesan and something I look forward to each visit.

The menu includes breakfast fare (the French Toast was terrific), sandwiches, burgers, homemade pizza, and hotdogs. You can build your own hotdog or burger and they also have options for gluten-free as well! I had the Cheap Seats hotdog which comes with a tasty grilled/split hotdog on a soft bun with mustard, ketchup and either pickle relish or dill. Very tasty! My husband had the build your own hotdog with raw onion and sauerkraut. Again...decent amount of toppings and excellent flavor! Everyone wàs ordering ice cream around us and talking about how amazing it was and we were sad that we were already too full, but the server (who was amazing!!) offered us a taste so we were able to try it...it WAS terrific ice cream and well worth a stop on its own :) They are open 7am-2pm so keep that in mind but highly recommend a stop if you are in the area :)
