Everything is made from scratch with flavorful sauces on every dish. Chef Swanson was there cooking with his wife which was so cool to be able to chat with him. Our favorite dish didn't have a photo because we ate it so quick. The fried green tomatoes were lightly breaded with a panko and pesto plus mozzarella. It was similar to a fried green tomato caprese salad. Yum! The rest of the dishes were amazing plus we tried the beet carrot cake for dessert and again perfect. There is outside seating with a view of the country. This place is very remote and you would never expect the quality of food for the price. This is an extension of the Milwaukee location where they hold special farm to table events plus bike rides etc. Please make sure you get here when it opens again because this place is a gem that we need to keep in business. Divine. We were…read moreenjoying a week in the north woods when I noticed Braise North and wondered if they were affiliated with Braise in Milwaukee--they are! They're only open Friday evenings and Sat-Sun. We stopped by on a Saturday morning and got the best meal of our trip. They're a cute spot with a lovely little indoor dining room as well as a patio. We opted to dine outdoors on the sunny Saturday morning we were there. I ordered the frittata and a caramel latte made with almond milk. The frittata came with a lightly dressed salad on the side. The salad was fine but the frittata was out of this world delicious. It was buttery with creamy goat cheese that was beautifully sharp and flavorful. My caramel latte was the best cup of coffee of my trip (so good with wonderfully rich espresso). My only hope is that they'll eventually expand their hours as I would have happily been in there every morning of my trip. They are a wine bar in the evenings as well (though we didn't stop by for that). The service was good if a bit disjointed (we received our meals and finished them before our coffee came out). But, aside from that small snag--exemplary all the way around. Get to it!

Let me clarify this is a 4.5 star rating. Our friends at Yelp still won't give us half stars…read more After visiting Northwoods Inn, I tell people, "I had a great meal at a gas station recently.". No kidding, don't let the gas station vibes throw you, this place has great eats. We walked in through the gas station part of the building and were surprised to see the rustic decor of a medium sized dining area and an adjacent bar. It was a pretty full dining room and we sat ourselves. It didn't look promising as we saw one waitress and one bartender. However, after a brief wait, the waitress came to our table and assured us she would return as quickly as possible to get our drink and food orders. She returned as promised. Our drinks arrived a short time later. They were well made and attention was paid to get us another round as we finished the first. Our table had ribs, prime rib and a French dip sandwich. The portion size was great and the food arrived hot. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and the sauce was tasty. The prime rib had great flavor, was prepared as ordered and had very little fat. The French dip was also tasty. Truth be told, a salad bar would make this a true five star rating. The salads served with the meal were nice but very run-of-the-mill. Will we go back in the future? You betcha!
