Everything is made from scratch with flavorful sauces on every dish. Chef Swanson was there cooking with his wife which was so cool to be able to chat with him. It was similar to a fried green tomato caprese salad. Yum! The rest of the dishes were amazing plus we tried the beet carrot cake for dessert and again perfect. They're only open Friday evenings and Sat-Sun. We stopped by on a Saturday morning and got the best meal of our trip. They're a cute spot with a lovely little indoor dining room as well as a patio. We opted to dine outdoors on the sunny Saturday morning we were there. I ordered the frittata and a caramel latte made with almond milk. The frittata came with a lightly dressed salad on the side. The salad was fine but the frittata was out of this world delicious. It was buttery with creamy goat cheese that was beautifully sharp and flavorful. My caramel latte was the best cup of coffee of my trip (so good with wonderfully rich espresso). My only hope is that they'll eventually expand their hours as I would have happily been in there every morning of my trip. They are a wine bar in the evenings as well (though we didn't stop by for that). The service was good if a bit disjointed (we received our meals and finished them before our coffee came out). But, aside from that small snag--exemplary all the way around. Get to it!

1 Star -- Very disappointing experience at Northern Perks Coffee Shop…read more I traveled all the way from Chicago, and whenever I travel, I make it a point to seek out local coffee shops. I enjoy trying local favorites and supporting small businesses, and after reading the reviews for Northern Perks Coffee Shop, I was looking forward to having a good cup of coffee. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. From the moment I walked into Northern Perks Coffee Shop, the young woman working there had what I felt was a very unpleasant and dismissive attitude. I simply asked what the most popular coffee was, and she made a face and said she didn't know. That alone was disappointing, but the experience got worse. I ordered a cappuccino. I watched as she used milk that had already been sitting in a cup and coffee that had already been sitting in a metal container. When she handed me the cappuccino, it was ice cold. I brought it back to the counter and politely asked if she could remake it. Instead, she used the frothing wand to warm the cup of coffee. The coffee tasted bitter and stale, as though it had been sitting there for a long time. I asked her again if she could please remake it. When she did, I asked if she could give me the coffee separately so I could add the milk myself, because at that point I was uncomfortable with how the cappuccino was being prepared. She then told me she would charge me for another cup. At that point, I was completely done with the experience and simply asked for a refund. The owner then tried to make excuses for the young woman's behavior, which made the situation even worse. Rather than acknowledging my concerns, the owner's response left me feeling dismissed and unsupported. I travel all over the United States, and 9 times out of 10, I have wonderful experiences at local coffee shops. I love discovering new places, meeting local people, and enjoying a good cup of coffee. Unfortunately, that was absolutely not my experience at Northern Perks Coffee Shop. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was the way I felt I was being treated. As a Latina woman traveling from Chicago, I genuinely left feeling unwelcome and questioning whether I was being treated differently because I am Hispanic. I cannot say for certain what was behind the employee's behavior, but that was honestly how the interaction made me feel. I would give zero stars if that were an option. Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend Northern Perks Coffee Shop, and I will not be returning. It is unfortunate because I genuinely wanted to support a local business and leave with a positive experience and a great cup of coffee.

The food is not fancy, but straight ahead American fare. Prices are reasonable, because, I think, portions are not huge - just the right size. Last visit I had biscuits and gravy with a side of American fries with onions. Two biscuits cut in half and drenched with a plate full of gravy! Super tasty and made with their own recipe. The requisite bottomless cup of coffee is there for you! This is comfort food at its best.
