I called and talked to the owner (Ron?) about getting an estimate for new gutters. He took down my information, or so he said. No one showed up for the appt. I called the office and the receptionist asked me to call the owner on his cell. I asked her to do it. I got a call from the receptionist a few minutes later that they had no record of my appt or information. She then said she would call back to reschedule. No one has called. I have not had this company do any work on my house, but I am hesitant to hire someone after the no show and no call routine. During our conversation he asked me where I heard of them. Right before Christmas, our kitchen ceiling was dripping. We weren't sure anyone would even be available over the holidays. Thank goodness Ron answered and came out! He repaired the leak and wrote us an estimate for a new roof, as ours is near the end of its useful life. All this on the day before Christmas, with no complaints! Ron accepts credit cards, all of them, and is very friendly. The ceiling stopped leaking and we will definitely consider his company for replacement of our roof when that time comes. Ron has scheduled to come out to our house twice now and has twice completely blown us off. The first was a weekday appointment when I took time off work and waited for 1.5 hours. No call or anything, and when I called he explained was 'stuck' in San Jose. After scheduling again for a weekend morning, I made sure to be up and ready for the appointment. Once again, Ron didn't show up and didn't bother to call, disrespecting my time for the second time. This is a person who is probably good at what he does, however, has horrible business sense. Ron the owners of RA Construction did a wonderful job of roofing our home. His crew is a bunch of really hard working polite guys, and did I mention the clean up was great each day they came. The roof and gutters look great, pasted inspection on the first go around every time. They started on Tues and finished the next Tues, took a little longer than they wanted because the gutter guards I ordered were not in stock to complete the job. Ron is easy to deal with and unlike some contractors takes payment only when the job is completed. OH! and his pricing was the best. read more

Ron has a great reputation, but clearly didn't want my small ($500-700) project. Rather than tell me he didn't want it he just blew me off after 2 calls and 2 emails. Ron promised the our complete roof replacement within one day. The competing bids said it was impossible. For us, having 2 babies running around, the shorter the disruption the better. His crew started at 7am and by 6pm we had a whole new roof, gutter and 2 suntunnels installed. Everything was cleaned up and the job looks fantastic. read more

The price for the rain gutters are definitely competitive and the workmanship was pretty good. I preferred to have some of the downspouts in a different area and Ron's team came back about a week later to accommodate my request. It would have been nice if his team explained the placement of the downspouts ahead of time so that it didn't have to get adjusted later, but not too big a deal. read more

I'm dinging RA 1*, because he forgot our job date. He should be better organized by now. Good stuff: 1) He made up for it, by squeezing us in the very next day. 2) Having estimates for gutter replacement (the particular job), I know his estimate was very reasonable. He gets to feed his family. I get fairly priced gutters. (I have a pet peeve against those miserly consumers who try to cheat business people, just to save a few bucks. Everyone loses in the end, because of this behavior.) 3) The crew made a very serious attempt to clean up, versus most every other contractor I've worked with, that may do a decent job, but leave a garbage heap in one's yard when they leave. You can accuse me of OCD, because I did spend an hour the next day, cleaning out the corners. 4) I asked for a slightly unorthodox layout of downspouts. He/his crew more than accommodated me. 5) Extruded gutters will outlast the house and me. Assuming RA and I are around between 5-10 years, he will be my first call for a roof estimate. read more

I was in need of some new gutters so I turned to yelp to help find a good, licensed professional to help me out. After finding one company that I got a bad vibe from, I called RA Construction. I spoke to Ron, who seemed really nice and personable on the phone. He promptly came out and gave me an estimate that I thought was really reasonable. He even offered to take down a couple old satellite dishes for free. I told him I'd think about it and call him back. About 24 hours later, I called the office and left a message telling him I'd like to use his service. 48 hours pass and I don't hear anything from him. I called Ron's cell phone and asked if he got my message. Ron told me he got my message and left me a message. I never got such a message...if he was telling the truth, this marks the first time ever that someone left me a message and I didn't get it. Now I'm starting to get weary. Ron tells me that he's got me on the schedule for "next week" but he can't tell me exactly what day because he's currently on a roof doing a job. I'm feeling a little bit more uneasy at this point because there's not a definite day/time, but I could how he can't look at the schedule if he's on a roof. The following week passes (12/10-12/14) and there were a couple days where it rained. Ron never showed up and he never called telling me he had to push me back because of the rain. 12/17/12 passes (the Monday following the week he no called/no showed) and still nothing. So I called his office on Tuesday and spoke to a woman who said she'd have Ron call me. Ron called me later that night and left a message (that I actually got this time) saying that the rain pushed his schedule back. Ron said that he would be at my house on Thursday, 12/20. I called Ron back to confirm everything (like he asked me to in the voicemail). Ron said that he would be at my house on Thursday afternoon. Ron came in the late afternoon and installed the new gutters but he didn't take down the satellite dishes like he said he would (he also wrote it on our contract that he'd take them down). Ron told me that he didn't have time and I should call him after the first of the year to do it. He asked for payment in full, which I mistakenly gave him. I called Ron the day before President's Day and left a message. I told Ron who I was and asked him to call me back so he could take down the satellite dishes like he wrote in the contract. I didn't hear back from him. So I called eight days later and spoke to a woman. I left her my name, phone number, address, and told her why I was calling. She said she would have Ron call me back to schedule a day to do what he agreed to do. I called him on 3/1/13 and left another message on his machine begging him to just call me back. he called me back later that night and left a message. Ron said that his phone doesn't allow him to make calls...yeah, I believe that. He also said that he'd be out at my house on Monday (today), but surprise, surprise, he never made it out here. I won't rule out calls to the BBB, the state licensing board, or filing a civil lawsuit. Ron was really quick to answer his phone when I wanted to schedule the job and he was more than happy to promptly come out to sell himself and all the great reviews he has. As soon as I told him I was going to give him my business, communication essentially ceased, he wouldn't give me a day he was coming out, and he didn't show up (or call) the week that he said he was going to do the work. And then he refused to do the work he agreed to do in a contract. Either business is really good for him and he s so busy he can't make a phone call that would take two minutes max, or he's a shady businessman who doesn't show up when he's supposed to, doesn't answer calls, and doesn't finish jobs. Either way, I would not recommend this company and I wish I would never have done business with him. ***UPDATE*** After repeatedly attempting to get Ron to finish the job (or even call me back), I did end up contacting the BBB. Surprisingly, Ron's phone started working again and he immediately called me. Ron got offended that I contacted the BBB and made it sound like it was my fault that he didn't do the work he agreed to do. He then wanted to schedule a time to come out and finish the job. Ron also asked me to immediately contact the BBB again and tell them that the issue was resolved (before he completed the work)...yeah, right, like I'm going to do that. I did not want to play the game with Ron of scheduling a time and having him stand me up and I also did not feel all that comfortable in his ability to do the job correctly. I told Ron that I wanted to have a company come out to do the job and send him the bill, but he did not want that, claiming that a company might charge more than what he thought was reasonable. I did eventually agree to have Ron send me a check for what he believed the fair market value of removing the satellite dishes. read more

The quality of the work appears to be quite excellent. I also installed a gutter guard on one hard-to-reach second story gutter. Replaced my gutters in November, 2010. Waited until now to let them get tested out. With all the rain and wind we've had this winter, definitely the best thing ever did! Go for the gutter covers they offer if you can afford it. I'm surrounded by oak trees...no more cleaning, getting dirty and cut hands, etc. Team very professional, quick, neat, one-day job. Ron is an EXCELLENT roofing contractor and a REALLY NICE guy!!! We have an older home in San Jose that had a wood shingle roof that was way past it's prime. Met with a number of roofers and Ron came in with an excellent price for the same materials being quoted by other roofers. He said his team would be at my house on Wednesday at 7AM. BAM!!! His team drove up at 7AM on the dot, tore off the old roof, fixed the dry rot problems, installed the radiant barrier plywood and had nearly 1/2 of the new roof shingles on by the end of the day. WOW!!! By Friday my roof was done and the new gutters installed. They even went around the house with a blower and rake to clean up every last little piece of debris. I met with Ron in one of home and garden show. There he educated me about different kinds of roof and then honestly gave his opinion about kind and/or quality of roof my house may need based on size of house and city I live in. After few months, when I was ready to re-roof my house, I invited bids from other well established roofing company as well. Offer from Ron was competitive in terms of price but he was quoting me time 2 days (worst 2.5 days) to finish the job. It was shortest amount of time as compared to competitors. I thought he is just trying to win my contract like contractors do in market. It was a difficult decision. I am glad I chose Ron. His Crew showed up 7.30 AM in morning (as promised) and worked late in evening. Job was finished on time. At the end of each day, his crew cleaned up work site (ground) like I have hired white glove full service. After a rain, I decided I wanted to re-direct some of the water from gutters they installed so I could collect in rain barrels. Ron replaced our entire roof and the installation went ok but after less than a year a leak occurred at a pre-existing skylight. The response to this problem was poor and when he finally got around to fixing it the work quality was poor and the first attempt failed. The second attempt seemed to work but all his workman did was lay in lots of caulk into an area that had been poorly sealed in the first place. Ron agreed that this fix will not last long term and then proceeded to tell me that it would cost an additional $100 to fix the leak. This is on a skylight that was not leaking in the first place. So in my opinion Ron fails in the "Stand behind your work" category. read more

During the research process for a new roof we received several estimates from different companies, but we were impressed with Ron's friendly, straight-forward and thorough approach.
