The blood technicians are super nice and helpful. Unfortunately, there is no receptionist. You literally walk in and have to check in on the tablet station they have. It is a terrible idea.. given that this quest diagnostics is in the heart of Chinatown.. with many middle age folks to elderly seniors who have a barrier with the technology..... sure, you can switch the language to Chinese but... that doesn't work for everyone. Fortunately for me, I asked one of the technicians when she was getting someone when I needed help because I didn't bring the insurance card and it kept asking me to scan the card.. I had the insurance info on the referral sheet though. The technician helped me and said I have to press "no" to consent since I don't have it. Then, I checked in. SHE KNEW THAT.. BUT HOW IS ANYONE ELSE SUPPOSED TO??? Completely not her fault at all! She's probably had to STOP what she's doing and help so much people... WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER Checked in just after 3pm for a stand-by blood draw. There were 5 people in cue ahead of me per the kiosk. All have their blood drawn, and no one left waiting to draw blood. The lab tech comes out at 3:40 and says the office is closed and no more blood draws... Seriously??? WTAF??? The office is supposed to be open until 4pm, nowhere online does it say you have to be checked in by a certain time to get labs drawn if you are stand by. The tech was rude as hell to me. There was one other person there to drop off a stool specimen, and they refused to take it because, get this... she did not have an appointment to drop off the specimen!!! AYFKM!!! Needing a blood test, I couldn't get an appointment at my Quest lab in Alameda. Checking on their website for the nearest locations, I made an appointment at the lab at 9thSt in Oakland Chinatown. The lab is located on the second level of the Pacific Renaissance Plaza. There is a City public garage located underneath the complex with its entrance on Franklin St. I received a text 50 minutes before my appointment to check in with the link provided upon my arrival. Arriving at 10:30, I checked in for my 10:45 appointment and I was instructed to wait outside, in my car, or waiting room. Wasn't going to go back to my car and the waiting room had limited seating, so I waited outside. There was a walk-up line with about 8 people queuing. Around 10:50, a worker came out to allow in three people that were queuing. I walked up and asked when I would be let in since I had a 10:45 appt. She said 'you didn't get a text to come in?" I said no and she told me to come in. The worker at the counter asked for my insurance and ID and for me to take a seat. As I was seated, a lady outside was screaming at a lady that was let in that she had cut the line while they had waited 1 1/2 hours. A worker determined that the lady let in came in with her mom who was in the queue and explained it to the unhappy lady, who was still upset. Within 5 minutes, I was called in. My blood was drawn and I was on my way. The check-in process to go in has issues, as I was not texted to come in and I had to inquire about the status. The walk-in line needs a better system, as there shouldn't be people screaming in the waiting room. read more

Showed up yesterday around 10ish without an appointment. Didn't have to wait too long which is a total plus. After they called my name, I went inside the lab and placed my stuff on the counter and in front of some cabinets. When the phlebotomist showed up, she had a total fit. She gave me attitude about how my stuff was in her way. "How am I supposed to get the needles if your stuff is in the way? She mentioned some other things, but I cannot recall word for word. I didn't want to call her out on her rudeness since she was the one drawing blood. I didn't want her to get mad and make me bleed to death! Even though she was super rude, I tried my best to kill her with my kindness. At the end, she thanked me for coming and wished me a good day. She probably didn't mean it, but I was glad she didn't yell at me again! I can't wait to start teaching again, I so I can resume my Kaiser insurance. I wanted to give this place ZERO stars. I was taking my mother to this lab to get some bloodwork done. There is a shorter lady with curly hair that works here that is EXTREMELY rude to customers. She was yelling at each and everyone of them telling them forcefully to show her their ID cards, insurance cards, then yelling at them to sit down. A woman came to the door asking what address the lab was to make sure she was in the right place, and the same staff worker yelled at her and said I don't know, it is on the door, can you read it? She also continued to berate her and tell her where adjacent streets were when the woman clearly just wanted to know the address. The staff drawing blood was nice, but they should consider hiring people who have bad days to not take it out on the customers. This will be reported to the BBB as well. read more

It's also a few blocks away from the Oakland 12st St BART station so no need to drive if you don't want to. I didn't have an appointment and I was done with my lab works in about 20 minutes. Quest Diagnostics has moved across over to the other side by the doc's offices. less seating, more medical "rooms". evident by the line out the door and little movement that there was a staff shortage and/or cutbacks. decided not to wait in line (probably an hour's wait). got a form with a phone # for reservations (888- ?, will post when i find it again) got computerized recording. difficult to make appointment, no live person. i keep repeating appointment time i wanted and finally got confirmation code. arrive before 3, out by 3:10 for a blood test. receptionist was curt but looked familiar (likewise, i'm sure). 3.5 stars since i could make lemonade out of a lemon situation. line for appointments go to left clearly stated on signpost. staff, one receptionist and one medical staffer, in diffiuclt situation. i would get grumpy too. can understand the no answers situation. receptionist has to go to back to translate.....since med. staffer no habla chinois. read more

The star represents a negative rating. Mess, disorganized, discriminates attitude to people who seems to be lower class. They just let a sick person from a far away city, standing on the line for more than 30 minutes, and told him to go because they will close mid day. That meant you have to bear your hunger (fastening) until afternoon, or you took another trip (30 miles) the next day for begging their KIND services. This is the worse management I've seen with Quest Group. They give away the sign-in board system which allow patients know if they could be serviced within a framed time. They tend to let those non-english speaking away, as they think these people can't sound their complaints. SHAME on you QUEST at Oakland China town. read more

(This review is "not recommended" by yelp, but it's a real review by a real client. I keep a separate yelp account for my medical reviews because these experiences are personal and I don't want my friends and family reading about them.) For run-of-the-mill lab work, this location is fine, but you MUST have an appointment or be prepared to wait a loooong time. I always make an appointment for this location. If you have any special kits or are getting lab work done that's NOT run-of-the-mill, be prepared for the technicians to be flustered. They're very unsure about how to proceed with special kits, even when the kits have DETAILED instructions. There are usually a lot of people in the waiting area and my feeling is that these techs don't want to take the time to deal with kits and see them as an annoyance. Go to another Quest location for that. The people who do the blood draws are usually okay: polite & efficient. I've had a couple who have had trouble finding the vein, but mine are difficult to find. The good phlebotomists always find them on the first try. The less skilled ones have to try at least a couple of times on me. The front desk is usually courteous to me, but I've seen them be VERY rude to the Chinese clients, especially the older ones. That's wrong. They should really improve their customer service in that regard. What could be so horrible about your job that you'd take it out on an elderly person? People in the medical/health field need to have a caring manner with people or else they should find another career path. This is Chinatown, so parking can be very difficult. read more

I never knew that places such as Quest existed. In SoCal, I always had my tests done at the doctors, and so I was surprised when my GP in Oakland directed me here. At first I was a bit uneasy when he told me the visit would last 8-10 hours- are they going to inspect my whole body? I went home and I immediately made an appointment in downtown Oakland where they were open on Saturdays since I was afraid the test would last all day. On Saturday morning, I took the bus and was late to my appointment by 2 minutes. The place opened at 8, and I came at 8:17. Right when I walked in, I thought I was at the wrong place because there were so many people! It was like DMV madness. Luckily, since I had my appointment I only had to wait a few minutes but I felt bad for those who didn't. I got called in after 10 minutes, and all the phlebotomist did was take my blood! I was in and out in 10 minutes. Props to everyone who works at this Oakland location. Most customers are probably native Chinese or Viet and so all the workers have lots of patience. The only reason this places gets 3 stars from me is because I felt like I was overcharged for the test. Even with my insurance, my copay was over $100. That's ridiculous! I hate getting blood work done. I don't like needles!! But the process here was probably the fastest ever - in and out in less than 15 minutes flat! The phlebotomist that drew my blood had no trouble finding a vein and she drew four samples all within a minute and a half! i was impressed as usually it would take more than a few tries to get a good vein or I'd get poked a bunch of times and then an excruciating amount of time waiting per vial. I made an appointment online and the fact that they're open at 7:30am is great because I was able to go right before work - a plus when you have to fast for 12 hours before your appointment. And they're just a couple of blocks from Bart so transportation isn't an issue but if you choose to drive chances are there will be parking on the street - just bring a few quarters. read more
