Bad reviews always dominate blood lab reviews because those who have good experiences have them and move on, but when you have a particularly bad experience, especially if you are stressed and/or don't feel well, writing a bad review can be cathartic. I've had my share of lousy lab experiences, but this one was surprisingly positive. My husband and I could not get the scanner to recognize our appointments, and though I wish they had an actual human in the waiting room for customer service (the reason not 5 stars), when I got the attention of the folks behind the closed (and locked) door to the lab area, I got friendly service to help get things on track manually. We were both seen within a reasonable amount of time from when were scheduled, and my phlebotomist, Michael, had a really nice way about him. He was happy to get me into a chair that reclines because I have anxiety; he got that needle in with zero pain; and he kept me talking and distracted through collecting 8 tubes of blood, though I'm glad I was in the reclining chair because I did feel woozy toward the last few tubes. I usually end up with some bruising the next day, but there's none, and my arm isn't sore. 5 stars for Michael and many thanks! :) read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. They take walk-in Appointments. So I go to the kiosk and sign in. I see I am #3 on a list of 6. After an hour of waiting, a worker tells a random man "oh no. We're not taking 'stand-bys' today." W...T...F!!! Why tf did they let me sign in as a 'standby' and wait an hour to find out they aren't taking us? Whoever manages this location needs to be fired. Gross. Fired. Fired. Fired. Like, fired and then find out they need to get lab work done. So they can see how they are treating people. Ive never successfully used the services they provide. It never works out. You have ONE JOB. I've been here so many times, even with appointments and they can't find my lab order. Why do they even exist. Poorly run location. Just, burn it to the ground!!! Abhorrent and disgusting, the way to treat sick people. You should be ashamed of yourselves. read more

Got a same day appointment. Super quick and easy. Moderately easy street parking if you're willing to walk a couple blocks. Clean facility and the check in kiosk was intuitive and simple to use. All in all, I really liked this location. I'm not sure why this has low ratings but maybe Quest improved upon the previous complaints. read more

1 Star Horrible Customer Service Absolutely horrible customer service. I made an appointment expecting to be seen in a reasonable amount of time, yet I still waited well over an hour. What is the point of making an appointment if customers are going to wait this long? The customer service experience needs a major overhaul. From the long wait times to the overall way customers are treated, this location clearly needs some serious attention. Honestly, they need to close, retrain and rehire staff, completely revamp the customer service experience, and reopen in 2027. Customers deserve better. Their time matters, and making an appointment should mean something. Horrible, horrible, horrible experience. read more

This is why monopolies are illegal. This is why they should be enforced. You can make an appointment all you want. It doesn't matter. They do not care about your time. You can wait two hours for an appointment. Do they know they can't handle the number of people they schedule? I'm sure they do. Do they care? No. There is no customer service to be had here either. Sorry, you don't really have any other options. Pack a lunch, take the afternoon off, and bring your work with you. Cause you live here now. read more

I had 2 appointments at this location, both 1 week apart. While it's difficult getting an appointment (availability is usually 1+ week out from the date you're booking) it's well worth it! On both occasions I've arrived to my appointment and checked in 15 minutes prior as it recommends and I've been called back at my EXACT appointment time on both occasions. I've never had to wait past my appointment time. Check in is self serve on a kiosk (there's no employees / front desk to help) or you can check in on your phone via the text message they send to you. I've been in and out within 20 minutes both times (counting me arriving 15 minutes prior to my appt time) I had a great experience and will definitely return. read more

I came here with an appointment and I still had to wait over 45 minutes. Staff was not helpful. There were a number of people that came as the standby group. They told me that they have been waiting over 1.5 hours. read more

Great experience! Quick service. My appointment was scheduled for 3:40, I arrived 15 minutes prior (email recommended 10 minutes prior) I checked in immediately and sat down. There were 4 other people waiting already but the screen showed them as walk ins. I sat down and within 5 minutes I was called to the back (10 minutes prior to my appointment time) so I technically did not wait. I was in and out before my actual appointment time. 3:39 I was already out of the building. The staff were very kind and experienced. I didn't feel her poke me AT ALL. I've been to their Alameda location and had a horrible experience so I'm super happy with how today went and will book future appointments here. read more

DO NOT walk-in here. I've been here an hour. When I got here, I was 4th in line for walk-ins. At one point, I was the only person in the waiting room. They will continue to service the appointments before walk-ins. After an hour and twenty minutes, I asked if they were still calling walk-ins. I was told that they would only call walk-ins when there were no appointments waiting. Here's a lesson on Capitalism kids. When medical care is profit driven, a corporate lab, like Quest, will never staff their sites adequately. The list had 6 appointments and Quest was over 30 minutes behind on them, meaning it's unlikely, with appointments constantly coming in, that a walk-in would ever be called. The monitor also said that 26 people had appointments scheduled within the next hour. So, I never got my blood drawn, and I had to pay for 2 hours of parking at $7/hr. Make an appointment. The staff is working as fast as they can, but management and their business decisions make it almost impossible to walk in. On another note, they close at friggin 5pm. This is a major US city. People work all 3 shifts; especially in this neighborhood, which surrounds a hospital. Again, profit driven healthcare is unlikely to have after hours options because more shifts means more overhead. read more

Aside from one pretty big hiccup at the start (was told to walk into a room that contained another patient actively having blood drawn...) the people here were fantastic. It was as painless as getting sharp objects poked into your veins can possibly be and they had me out in five minutes. Thanks! read more

Dropped in without an appointment and was initially told it could be a long wait. Well it wasn't. 3 minutes max and my name was called. One of the quickest lab appointments ever. The young guy who did the blood draw was very efficient with the 5 tubes he needed. And on top of that no bruising. read more

Made a 110 appointment, and an hour later I am still sitting here with 22 others ahead of me. In the meantime, I will get a parking ticket out on the street and when you mention anything to them about it here they just give you an eye roll and tough luck attitude. What a horrible place? read more

Apparently appointment times mean nothing other than you'll be able to get in that day but not necessarily at the time you selected. The facilities are understaffed, causing one to wait over 30 minutes for something that only takes 5 minutes at Kaiser. There is no customer service staff to help you, as everything is done on a kiosk system. And at this specific facility, the woman working in the morning (short, heavier) was extremely rude to everyone. Even if people work here, it's pretty obvious they're only drawing blood from you both literally and figuratively. On top of this, the labs are expensive for out of pocket payers. Luckily Quest has a monopoly on this service so it's unlikely they need to nor will they change their MO. Have fun! read more

Efficient service and on time. They were super busy on a Saturday morning. I had an appointment so it was relatively quick. Don't bother going if you don't have an appointment. I saw 7 names on stand-by and that line didn't move at all since the folks with appointments have priority. Waiting room was ok. The non-stop Quest TV ads were annoying. read more

I went in for an appointment, made sure to come 10minutes before my appointment. When the time came for my appointment they didnt call me. Instead my name was removed from the waiting. As I ask the lady why they still havent called me 20 minutes after my appointment time was , she interrupted me and said no walk ins. With a nasty snarling attitude. She was roughly 5'2 with dark brown hair with or need touch ups with glasses. Roughly around 50.Almost before they closed she said we must have stepped out when they called us(we were sitting there the whole time) and finally attended us after 30minutes. Without saying sorry for her mistakenly removing us thinking it was another patient. Very unprofessional. read more

YOU HAVE TO CHECK IN AT THE MACHINE EVEN IF YOU DO MOBILE CHECK-IN FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT! I made an appointment at 9:40, and at 10:04 a rude woman told me to join the standby list because first I must have not checked in (then she said they "can't see" the mobile checkins). I'm writing this at 10:24. I will never go back to this lab, there's no one to talk to and you can't trust what's on their own board. This was a waste of time, I left and will make an appointment elsewhere. read more

Arrived for my evening appointment and was rudely told - along with two other people on the waiting room - that they're not seeing any other people. I had an appointment, and let her know that. She said the system was down, and I'm now late for my appointment, anyway, which is not correct. Shorter, blonde woman with hair pulled back into a pony tail. It's fucked when you leave your job early to get to an appoint to get labs done for your doctor, and you get treated like you did sometime wrong. No apology that the system was down. No offer to help secure an appointment elsewhere or for another day. She kept sweeping the floor, clearly trying to get out of there. Shame on her and this behavior. read more

Checking into the location via kiosk should've been easy, even with one of the kiosks being down. However, it became more difficult when staff allowed a man without an appointment to jump the 10 person line because he didn't want to wait. This resulted in an unreasonable delay of an additional 45 minutes. If you have a standard procedure that includes a list of names and priority on a screen, stick to it! read more

The most non communicative office ever. Brother made an appointment but it didn't come through so we are walk in. An hour wait while folks move at snails pace here. Personally, I go to Lab Corp at a hospital and it's never a long wait and no appointment needed. They could learn a lesson from LabCorp who will text you so you can wait outside or in your car since there are on 5 chairs in here. Even though we are here, they will take an appointment before us when there is only one person waiting. My mom has to fast also. So we did the walk in, have waited and finally told that we also needed to check in. Argh!!!!! Absolutely the stupidest system. And how does this work for folks who are not English literate? I don't get it and you shouldn't either. Go to another office if at all possible. There is a gal sitting here with a clipboard who appears to be helping people but she doesn't greet them. What a sad energy here. No one works with a sense of urgency or care here. I believe in karma. read more

Quest Diagnostics - Waiting an hour for walk in - Laboratory Testing Near Me - Oakland, California

I just had my annual bloodwork taken at Quest Diagnostics on Webster Street in Oakland. I had made an appointment online last week which was easy, got a text this morning a few hours beforehand with a link to sign-in. The sign-in process was a bit off - when I got there, I tried using their screen but it didn't have my appointment in it so then I tried using the link in my text message. That said I was checked-in even though it asked for my location and there wasn't a place or a button to enter the information. This was a bit disconcerting since there aren't staff to check you in. Luckily, it worked because shortly after, the phlebotomist called my name. Andre, my phlebotomist, was outstanding! I am very anxious around needles and medical procedures. But when I mentioned this to him, he asked if there was anything he could do to help me. I just asked for a cold paper towel and for him to take the least amount of blood necessary for the requested tests. He was just so kind, patient, and calming. Quest, Andre deserves a raise and a promotion! read more

Wow. My doctor ordered labs at Quest. I scheduled an appointment. They sent a text to confirm, and a check-in link, and I checked in. But the appointment never showed up on the MyHealth app. I arrived early and sat with 20 other people in a waiting room with a big screen telling us the order of patients but my name wasn't on it. I knocked on the locked door but they didn't answer. I tried calling but the phone number they offered was wrong. I finally asked an overworked staff person and she discovered that my name was spelled wrong. She could only put me at the end of the waitlist. read more

I like the check-in process. The facilities are clean. The phlebotomist is effective and quick. However my appointments have always been 10+ minutes late. read more

Walk in at 1:55. Called at 2:20. And that was the only positive from this experience Phibotinist was not understandable. I asked her to talk slower and clearer 3x and she couldn't. Asked for 3rd party to translate. She then asks me what blood work I was there for. ??? Said i know you have all that in your computer. That was minor compared to what happened next. There was a urine test ordered along with the bloodwork and they act coy.... did you know the doctor ordered a urine sample? No Well they want a urine sample. Sign here to authorize (but the MD ordered it). Next thing I know I'm on the hook for $215 Why She didn't state the reason I told them run it thru my insurance (medicare) first. No sir we can't do that Well if you want to be paid that's what you're going to do When I got home I called my medical provider. Not only was the panel ordered there were also reasons for the tests given. And when I told them they wanted to charge me after leaving the cup they said. Oh That's just wrong I think they purposely created confusion to juice their payments. Cause once you pay them they never return an overpayment Do they? Then they bring in my wife to tell her I'm agitated read more

Forgot about the blood test I needed before my upcoming doctor's appointment, so I went online to make an appointment at the location in my City, but they were booked up two weeks out. Since I needed the test within a week, the location by Summit Medical Center had openings, which I booked. Since I'm a Quest patient, I just confirmed my information on my account and I was pre-registered. Quest is located in the lobby on the right as you enter the Broadway-Webster Medical Plaza. I tried checking in through the text link, but had difficulty, so I just checked in on the pads in the waiting area. There were six chairs in the room and a large LCD panel giving the status of the check-ins. My appointment was 9am and I was called in around 9:10am. I gave the lab tech my paperwork and ID and she entered the info into the system. She then took the vials of blood and I was all set to leave. This office was more modern and larger than my usual location. Only negative is that they don't have a parking lot, so it's metered street parking, though spaces were easy to find. If I can't get an appointment at the location by my house, I'll be coming back to this location. read more

I should have read these reviews before making an appointment here. I've been reluctant to be serviced by any Oakland health facility, & after visiting this location today, 7/9/25 I have every right to be. I had an appointment at 4, got there 10 minutes early, & wasn't "seen" until after 4:25 pm. After 1 failed attempt to draw my blood the lady asked another 'adequate' professional to attempt drawing my blood. Without even trying, she sent me to another cold room, while they both sufficiently serviced other patients that came AFTER me. This location lacks professionalism, proper time management and consideration for ALL patients. I will continue to go to Pleasanton and Livermore locations where I'm literally serviced and complete within 10 mins or less of my scheduled appointments. DO NOT go to this location unless you are unemployed with no responsibilities and have time to waste, unlike myself! read more

I had an appointment but was very lucky to find one open still less than 24 hours before. If you do not make an appointment, you may not be seen at all, as the folks (6) on the standby list that day were told they would not be seen cause they had many appointments and there was no room. My Phlebotomist was excellent. I have bruised many times, some at Quest, from a blood draw and was tired of this since I know it should not happen so now I make sure to tell them to be careful NOT to give me any bruises! He dealt with me with great care and I was grateful and relieved that I left with only a very small red dot from the needle! It was my first time at this Oakland location, came mainly cause I did it at the last minute and it was the only appointment available anywhere but it worked out very well all considered. I cannot stress enough that you need to make an appointment or the likelihood that you walk in and get the lab work you need is slim. Even with an appointment, my wait was fairly long, seen at least 35 minutes after my time. Street parking was easy as people were coming & going frequently & you easily see the lab in the back right corner of the lobby. I definitely would return to this Quest but only with an appointment. read more

I scheduled an appointment for my elderly father. The appointment was for today July 7, 2022 at 4:30pm. My mother took my dad to the appointment and they waited for about an hour or so (because they arrived early), then they were completely denied service (even at their scheduled time). My mom showed the attendant the confirmation code she had, and according to my mother, the attendant just rolled her eyes at her. I am livid my dad is in his 90s he cannot afford to wait around for test performances and results. Which is why I booked the appointment when I did. I never had issue with the morning crew, but whoever works the late afternoon/day shift needs to show more compassion for the elderly. The webster quest crew should be ashamed! *Also need to add that the next avail appt. I could get is next week...Outrageous, that his labs have to be so delayed now.* read more

3 stars for the wait time on a Monday morning! I had an appointment for 10:30am, arrived at 10:20 to check in 10 minutes early. There was about 5-6 people ahead of me, waited until 11:00am to get called, was done by 11:15. The total time it took for me to check in and leave was about ~55 minutes. Kinda long imo with a appointment. I had to walk back to my car in between waiting to get called to add more time to my car because I didn't think it would take long. I also had trouble finding parking because they were doing construction in front of the building. I think i just got unlucky today! :( Phlebotomist was nice and professional though. read more

Routine blood work needed. Walked in at 9:15 AM on a Thursday. Put my name in the computer, sat down to wait. From the time I put my name in the computer to the time I walked out the door was 20 minutes. I am taking off one star because when I walked in there were about five people there, and one poor older lady didn't realize that they take the appointments before the walk-in's. The staff had not yet turned on the screen in the waiting room that shows everyone's (shortened) name and whether they are walk-in or appointment, and how long their wait time is. So she was very frustrated and confused because so many people had been called in before her. Once they turned it on, it's a great system. read more

The service at this specific site is absolutely terrible! It is not my fault if you are under staffed; all I am doing is asking questions with reason! If your appointments are NOT showing, I would think you would start calling people that are walk ins as we all would like to be seen! I understand there are procedures you have to follow, but above all: YOU ARE TO REMAIN PROFESSIONAL NO MATTER WHAT! As a patient, I should not feel or sense attitude because I asked a question. Most of the phlebotomists at this specific site have poor attitudes; Tiffany in particular today; now being that I am a young black woman + we are in 2023, I can easily say that she profiled me + treated me poorly. My care is just as important as a patient that booked a appointment. I have MS, I rode my bike to be here for a TB test so I can start work on time. It was already a struggle to get here + the added stress of waiting 2+ hours on top of the attitude really makes the whole experience veru poor. I hope and pray that you will seek understanding in this post and do better for the sake of the patients. read more

Care was quick and fast! Sometimes there is a wait! They do a good job! Blood job was great!

Two weeks ago, the quality of the experience went from ok to terrible. Wait times tripled, waiting room was full. People were actively annoyed and there was no explanation. No appointments seemed to be honored. The status board showed 13 customers being served when there are only 5 testing stations. For twenty minutes at a time, no patients were called in. I spoke to the manager and she said that they were being overbooked on the computer without the resources to handle it and didn't know when it would be fixed. Before the last two weeks, the center worked reasonably, with short waiting times, but is now a difficult and long experience. read more

This is an awful experience with a particular phlebotomist that works in this site. Had an appointment today, however, the phlebotomist Grace, could not locate the other. This has never happened to me before. The technicians have always been able to help by accepting me to email the order to them. She said they do not do that anymore. She also "required" masking which is not an issue but currently its no longer "required" but recommended per se. So I am diabetic and fasted but nothing happened this morning. It was a wasted effort. No wonder this place has that negative reviews because of some, not all, of its incompetent workers. I was unlucky to be helped by such an incompetent, unhelpful filipino phlebotomist named Grace. So go to this site AT YOUR OWN RISK. This probably is my last time here. Never again. read more

I really don't know what is up with all the negative reviews. I've gone here a few times and had no problems, with an appointment or as a walk in. Yes, they are totally automated now, so there is no receptionist, but the office is efficient and they have a board up which shows you where you are in the queue. I went in today, had an appointment and it was super easy. When I got there I used the link in the text that they sent, and I was immediately checked in. No need to do anything else. They called me right at my appointment time and I was in and out of there in less than 15 minutes. The only negative was it was a little hard to find parking today, and with the rain, that was a bit of a drag. But that is not their fault. My tech was efficient and expert at the blood draw and pleasant to boot. No complaints from me at all and I will continue to use this office for tests. read more

I made an appointment here for blood tests and a urine analysis. My complaint is not about the wait time (about 20 min) but the quality of testing and safety. I asked for a butterfly needle but the tech informed me they did not have any. Honestly I have never had a lab tell me that. I have very thin veins and when the tech withdrew the regular size needle she pierced the vein all the way through and I ended up the next day with a 3 inch by 3 inch bruise on my arm. In all my 65 years, I have never had a bruise like this from a blood draw! Then the urinanalysis. They did find elevated white blood cells but nothing else of concern so when I went to have the bruise evaluated at an urgent care clinic a few days later, I asked for another urine test as I was still having bad pain. There they found a very elevated white blood count, positive for nitrites, and a cloudy appearance to the urine, all of which were indicative of an infection according to the physician assistant at the urgent care clinic. I will never go to Quest again. read more

I took my 11 yr old daughter here a couple of months ago along with her father on a Saturday morning. They both had an appointment right after each other. I was having issues checking in my daughter with the kiosk machine. I thought I checked her in successfully twice and wondered why her name did not come up on the screen. Long story short, the lab closes at 12:00 I showed the lab tech a confirmation of the appointment and she was nice enough to see her. It did take a little while to collect all the blood samples since she manually had to put the orders in first for the allergy panels. I felt bad, but she was so nice and patient. I really appreciated it. read more
