Walking through Mayfest we overheard a woman going on about the amazing ceviche so we had to ask... this place is about as good as it gets! It's similar to what we became addicted to in Ecuador. The ceviche comes with fried corn for a little crunch and fried plantain. Just delish! I believe it's only available on the weekends. The other equally delectable dish was the Choripan. It's a sandwich however the bread alone is incredible and there's a smoky link inside with a Chimichuri sauce that gives that bright flavor. Absolutely delicious. Tulsa is lacking on the empanada market, so I'm glad that we have Que Gusto to help us out. This little joint in downtown has the tastiest empanadas you can dream of. I have tried the tomato mozzarella, and the traditional chicken empanadas, and both were amazing. Of course, you can't go without the plantains, those were super yummy too! The sweet empanada is not my fav, it's still good. However, I am just not a huge fan of the texture. I definitely reccomend this place for brunch, a simple/light dinner, or if you're wanting some authentic South American fare. Give them a try! read more

UPDATE: I hadn't been here in a while because of the Cov. I needed to grab a Gluten Free lunch on our way to visit family and they open at 10:00 which was perfect. I'm so glad I did. I opened my meal in front of everyone else who was eating hot dogs and I had the lunch of envy. (Yes, as hard as it was to share I did.) My review below stands. It's still AMAZALICIOUS. Spent the weekend in Tulsa with my husband. On our way out of town we decided to stop at Que Gusto. He loves fried plantains so they caught his eye immediately. I had the breakfast empanada and he had the beef empanada. It had a nice crispy crust and the stuffing was nice a warm. We also shared the chicken and rice that was topped with fried plantains. We stopped at Que Gusto on a last minute trip to Tulsa and we were so glad we did! Vegetarian and gluten free options abound and the customer service was so good. The young lady working the front counter was cheerful and friendly while explaining the menu to us. The empanadas are made to order so unless you are buying something in the prepared section, be prepared to wait 10-15mins for your food. We tried the Yucca bread which tastes like Brazilian cheese bread, fried plantains, GF beef empanada, and tomato and cheese empanada. For dessert we tried a plantain cake and a sweet GF empanada with custard filling. Soooo good. The empanadas came with a little container of a homemade sauce/salsa that tasted very fresh. The dining area is very small with a long bench to one side with tables/chairs and a few other tables with max capacity under 20 I would guess. The decor was simple and clean. Served with Patacones, topped with toasted corn which are more like a nut in size and dimension. Great consistency. The Pork Sandwich is way better than the name. Don't let the deceptive simplicity of the dishes fool you. Things like chicken and rice or (yucca, not potato) fries are an elevated experience. I'd rather eat any dish at Que Gusto than a tasting menu at a high-end restaurant. There's something so organic about the beauty of what we make for our loved ones. And that's the experience I've had every time I've gone to Que Gusto. And, what drew us to them in the first place, is the range of gluten free options. It's so fun to be at a new food place and try new food. We were there on a Tuesday, so we tried their Tuesday arepa special. The chicken chorizo and chicken avocado arepas were great. The ground maize dough is quite a new taste for me, and I enjoy it. Same for the dulce de leche cookie. I actually made my way to Que Gusto after seeing a photo of their slow roast pork sandwich on Instagram. It was as good as I hoped it would be. Love the crusty bread with generous filling. I look forward to be back to try their empanada and weekend specials. The staff there were really nice to help a patron who thought he threw his Invisalign in the bin. I love everything about this place - the cool interior design, the small-ish menu that's packed with flavor, the lovely people who run the place, down to the new addition of llama keychains!! To start this off, the service here is strong. Sometimes it takes a little longer but then your food comes out and burns your tongue and you decide the slight wait was forth it in the end.. ..Which brings us to the food. The arroz con pollo is full of spices and flavor, and the plantains top it off just right. Their chicken empanada is also really good. It's a big empanada and leaves me pretty full, and it's got so much flavor. It comes with a delicious orange sauce. Lastly, I never leave the place without having ordered their yucca fries. These fries are THE BEST, and they come with a green sauce that perfects the combo. I also came here during a special time when they were serving colada morada (a fruity drink with chunks of fruit in it; it reminded me of açai) and the guaguas de pan (bread decorated in the shape of people). I think it was after the dia de los muertos celebrations. The bread is baked fresh, and they decorate it for you with a sweet frosting when they make it. The colada morado is served hot, but I think you can ask for it at room temperature or chilled if you'd like. I personally find room temperature is perfect for it. This is our favorite Tulsa restaurant. We love the quality of the food, organic and locally sourced. Everything we have ordered here has been impeccable. They have specials going throughout the week and for special holidays. The service is great and feels like a family dynamic. You all if I could give this place 10 stars I would! It's super clean, and has an option for everyone. Their meat is grass fed and organic.... which you never find at restaurants, plus their eggs are local. I got the breakfast empanada for me and my husband, and we both agreed that it is one of the best things we have ever eaten. They also use materials that are recyclable/ bio degradable which honestly means a lot to me. The cashier was also very kind and made sure to help me through all the dairy free options. All and all, I will definitely be visiting here regularly. *Side note, I know they were worried that if they made me a dairy free smoothie that it would not taste well... but honestly it was really delicious. Talk about amazing local, small business worth making a special trip out for. We loved every bit of this meal. We were only in town for a week, and right after our workout, we stopped by Que Gusto, place was packed, on a loved Monday afternoon. I had the chicken empanadas and my son had the beef version. Que Gusto is pretty good, but I wasn't wowed by my $8 empanada that came with no sides. For that price, it better be damn good. And it was pretty good, but not $8 good. If they would have included a few plantains on the side, I would have been happy. I tried the pork empanada, which was seasoned well and filled with juicy pork and some bites of potato. I could have done without the potato because it was just a filler and didnt add anything to the empanada. It was decent, but I'm not sure that I'm willing to come back for those prices. read more

I must warn, it's difficult to find and nabbing a parking spot can be a challenge, but WORTH IT! We popped in around 8 PM on a Friday night. It's a small joint but when we got there no one was waiting in line to order. We got a sandwich and a plate so we could share (my daughter is 6 and has a small appetite. At least she eats what we do!) . I tell you, both orders were nothing short of fantastic! Meat, rice, spices all ON POINT! I'm not a pro at knowing what is authentic in this case but I tell you the food was so good! I will be coming back here for sure so long as they keep the doors open! One thing I have to mention is the option to order a LARGE kettle of soup. It's said to feed 10 to 12. Great for lunch! We didn't want anything too big and place really fit the bill. Street food style you can easily get them to go or eat them there. It was a perfectly sunny day around 75 degrees. They have a few tables outside and we were able to grab one and enjoy the sunshine! I ordered the chicken empanada. The stuffing had chicken, onions, cilantro and cheese. It came with some really yummy salsa on the side. Our server suggested that we bite into the pastry and then use the salsa to mix in with the filling. It all was so good! The empanadas are really quite large. Not the appetizer sized bites I am used to. One was totally enough for lunch. At $8.25 per empanada it's a good deal.
