Yelp lists this place as having "many v3getarian options." This is untrue. I spoke with three different folks who work there and all three confirmed that the rice is made with chicken stock and only one kind of beans are veg3tarian. I didn't ask about the salsa or guac as I'd learned enough to know I'd not be returning. I ordered a salad modified with beans, the v3gan ones, instead of meat and it came with maybe half a cup of iceberg, no more than 2 tablespoons of tomatoes, and the same with the guacamole. The beans came on the side in a cup, like a soup- and were soupy. Like real champs who give a single poop about v3geterian & v3gan folks (&/or our $) they charged me full price and didn't offer any subs (maybe extra guac, or some interesting veggies). I was invited by a friend who forgot I was v3gan so I tried to make the best of it, that was not to happen at this place on this day. The service was ok? They were nice enough to be honest about the rice but were not interested in working with me to get anything interesting or substantial to eat. I won't return and I won't recommend this place to anyone with dietary restrictions. read more

We were driving cross country and hit Tulsa at our lunch time. While I was searching Yelp for a place to eat, the driver pulled over and parked the car with, "Find a place, and then I'll drive there." And then La Flama was literally just 10 feet from where we were parked! The service was friendly and prompt. The food was delicious and fresh. This restaurant is a hidden gem! We've been here twice now, both times on a Friday and we were the only people in the restaurant (not sure why). It was quiet and very cozy inside. I enjoyed checking out the art on the walls. It was very interesting to interpret. The first time, I ordered 3 street tacos: 1 steak, 1 pastor, and 1 chorizo. It came with onion & cilantro on top. The steak was too dry for my liking and didn't have any flavor. The pastor was good, but the star of my entree was the chorizo! Wait, actually, no. The star of the show was the red salsa! It was spicy and smoky, such a great addition to my tacos. My husband ordered the carnitas. It came with pickled jalapeños and grilled onions, which he raved about, along with a side of rice & beans. This time, I ordered fish tacos. The fish was grilled to perfection with some crispy edges but it was overly salty. My husband, a creature of habit, was going to order carnitas again, but they were sold out. He ended up ordering Chuleta a la Plancha, two grilled pork chops. I have a partiality for, mom and pop Mexican restaurants operated in "hole in the wall" venues. They are especially easy to discover in Oklahoma. The best part is sampling the variations of common Mexican dishes prepared "home style" by the owners. And here we have" La Flama." The interior and furnishings at La Flama are well worn. The service is fast and friendly. The chips had been under the heat lamp for way too many hours, the salsa very fresh and delicious. Our meals were the Grilled Chicken Enchiladas and the San Lucas Chicken. Both were unique presentations. The enchiladas were corn tortillas dipped in red sauce filled with a very small amount of chopped grilled chicken, folded, with a liberal amount of more chopped grilled chicken on top. The San Lucas Chicken, was a thin chicken breast with a mild chipotle sauce, covered with melted mozzarella cheese, and a bonus of three grilled shrimp. Both meals were freshly prepared, mildly seasoned. Californicated Mexican food, it is not. Not quite what I would call OkieMex either. My best guess is home style, traditional authentic Mexican food. I make this clarification up front so, if you are expecting OkieMex you may be disappointed. If you don't mind food biased more toward traditional Mexican, give it a try. read more

3 tacos (coming in at $1.50 each): chuleta (pork chop), chorizo & chicken. all 3 were good & i usually never see pork chop as an option, that was an automatic choice. along with the tacos, i got beans & rice. the chicken was good. slightly smokey taste & goes well with both sauces they give you (one is red that's on the hot end while another is green & mild). the chorizo, i don't think you can mess that up, it was good. the pork chop was super good. either sauce, be sure to add the lime. the rice & beans went well together. rice had the mint of tomato in each bite. the beans were topped with cotija. both go well while going hard on some tacos. there was an option of marinated chicken breast that i should've tried. all in all, good stuff. The restaurant isn't in the nicest building in town, but I've never had any issues with feeling unsafe. I am always excited to find a new hole-in-the-wall Mexican food place and having driven by this one enough times I knew I needed to try it so I stopped in for lunch today. I ordered the Costillas de Puerco not really knowing what I would get other than a pork dish and got a big plate of pork ribs simmered in tomatillo sauce with refried rice and beans. I was not disappointed as the pork was simmered to fall off the bone tenderness and the tomatillo sauce was fresh made with just a hint of heat. Salsa was home made and solid as well and the service was prompt and courteous. This isn't going to take the place of Cancun for me but it will be a nice change of pace for when I'm in the area and craving some Mexican food. I recommend you give it a try! read more
