Carne asada tacos

This is a great place for food! Their happy hour menu is a vibe for sure! $2 tacos all afternoon Tuesday can't miss! Their margaritas are fire too! The staff is also really nice! Their half chicken order is pretty good with the hominy!

Breakfast burrito and stuffed sopapillas

As a naive new mexican, I felt obligated to write this review. Although initially skeptical, La tertulia nails the flavors of new mexico. We had the breakfast burrito and the stuffed sopapillas that I would have been happy to get from somewhere in New Mexico. This place is a gem and a must try for anyone regardless of if they are looking for authentic new mexican food or not. Not to mention the portion sizes are enormous, plenty to share

Kevin Nashan won his first James Beard Award in 2017 for Best Chef: Midwest after being a five-time semifinalist and two-time finalist in previous years. Now, with the James Beard Awards in full swing once again, it seems like the perfect time to explore a past winner's restaurant. Drawing from his New Mexico roots, Nashan's La Tertulia pays homage to the bold, smoky essence of Hatch green chiles and the rustic traditions of Santa Fe cuisine. With this concept, he brings an elevated take on authentic New Mexican fare to Tulsa, blending time-honored techniques with modern execution. Since La Tertulia is deeply tied to his heritage, it will be interesting to see if Nashan can successfully bring a taste of New Mexico to the heart of Tulsa. Let's eat. Dining La Tertulia's atmosphere features rustic motifs fused with modern flair. The space evokes the essence of adobe architecture, with copper tables, a concrete floor, modern New Mexican art adorning the walls, and a wood-paneled ceiling. The ambiance is relaxed and comfortable, seamlessly blending a contemporary take on classic New Mexican aesthetics. Service was provided by Mekayla. She is passionate and knowledgeable about the menu. She has worked at La Tertulia for several years. Our water glasses were filled, chips and salsa topped off, and plates swapped out between dishes. Chips with Fire-Roasted Salsa and Tomatillo Sauce The house-made chips have a traditional corn flavor. The smoky, intense pepper flavor was the standout, leaving a lingering heat on the tongue. It's one of the best salsas Tulsa offers. The tomatillo sauce shines with its tart notes, giving way to salty, garlicky, and lime undertones. Posole Green Chili Stew & Posole A duo of excellent classic southwest soups! The Green Chili Stew has rich smoky green chili notes balanced by the deep flavor of pork, with chunks of potato adding harmony. The spice level is perfect, leaving a gentle heat on the tongue and back of the throat. The posole featured a rich broth with initial pork notes, followed by earthy hominy, and ending with chili and ancho flavors. The soup was perfectly cooked, rich, hearty, and a beautiful presentation. Shrimp & Octopus Ceviche It began with avocado notes, followed by onion and cilantro, and ending with faint notes of shrimp. There was not much octopus. The texture was on the creamy side, akin to a dressing than a classic ceviche marinade. Unfortunately, the ceviche was under seasoned, lacking the usual acidity and brightness from vinegar or lemon, and needed more salt to enhance the overall flavor profile. Chorizo Flautas The flautas had a beautifully fried exterior, revealing a juicy, cheesy interior. The crispy tortilla gave way to cheese and faint pork notes. However, like the ceviche, it lacked seasoning, and the bold chorizo flavor was overwhelmed by the cheese. The mouthfeel was excellent. Ribeye Verde The ribeye, cooked to a perfect medium-rare, was served on a hot plate, maintaining the temperature well. The fusion of Swiss cheese, green chili stew, and tender beef was heavenly, with nutty Swiss cheese followed by smoky, spicy green chili, and finishing with rich ribeye flavors. The Spanish rice had a nice spicy aftertaste, possibly from Tajín, but the pinto beans were bland and underwhelming. Enchilada Plate The enchilada plate, with three layers of house-made blue corn tortillas, red or green chile, cheese, Spanish rice, pinto beans, and carne adovada, was a standout. The dish had a rich, layered flavor profile of cheese, pork, spice, and the distinctive taste of blue corn tortillas. The egg on top added richness. It brought back memories of Santa Fe, offering a perfect expression of New Mexican cuisine. Capirotada (Mexican Bread Pudding) This dense, thick bread pudding featured initial notes of cinnamon and spice, followed by thick egg and bread flavors and sweet currant undertones. The middle was very dense and monotonal in flavor with the bread-to-sauce ratio being considerably heavy on the bread, creating an imbalance. After a few bites, we decided to pass on finishing it. Final Thoughts La Tertulia delivered in many ways that Peacemaker did not. It is clear that Nashan's talent and influence lie in his roots and the translation of New Mexican cuisine. Standouts include the posole, salsa, green chile stew, ribeye, and those perfect enchiladas. The flavors are simply elegant. There are some critiques--the bread pudding, ceviche, beans, and flautas lacked the flavor profiles, refinement, and vision that the more successful dishes showcased. Regardless, La Tertulia delivers on its promise: a little taste of New Mexico in the heart of Tulsa. Until next time, friends, Let's eat.

There is some metered street parking in front of the restaurant but the block is full of restaurants so it might be a bit of walk depending on where you find parking. We had a short wait on a Friday night for 2 seats at the bar. The bartender was friendly and efficient with taking orders and mixing our drinks. I had the blood orange margarita, I love blood orange and this went down a little too easily. The salsa is more on the spicy side which I enjoy but my husband would not be eating. The huevos rancheros was so good. I got both the red and green chili sauce and the spice from the chorizo, it was all excellent. I would come back for this dish.

Ok so the steak tacos are where it's at. Tasty and tender and just right. If ur hungry add one or two more but I love the rice and beans too. Service was prompt and she helped us navigate the menu. The pork looked pretty legit and I kinda wish I nabbed that but maybe next time. Drinks were strong and good too!

This place never disappoints!! The food is amazing and authentic New Mexican cuisine! The staff are always great and go above and beyond always come here when I am in tulsa.

Kale & pine nut salad

Pretty good New Mexican food in downtown Tulsa. Came by on a Sunday night and it was busy but there were a few tables still available. Service seemed a bit mixed as we encountered one friendly server and one who was a bit colder, but they were busy so I get it. Portions are HUGE here. Glad my friend and I shared a combination plate, 1 sopapilla, a kale & pine nut salad. The free chips it comes with are huge lol but chips were a bit too hard and thick for our preference. Everything tasted pretty good. Recommend if you're in the area and want to try New Mexican food not to be confused with Mexican.

I felt like I stepped off the street and immediately into a Grecian-Mexican restaurant. The fire places at either corner of the restaurant added the coziest ambience to whisk us inside and out of the cold tulsa tundra. We nestled in with bowls of soup and flautas. The chips and salsa had a bit of a kick which warmed us up even more. The salsa was eerily smokey and unique to this place, you can tell it's homemade. Two reasons this place is getting 4 stars is because of the service and absolutely awful 'spicy' margaritas we ordered. I think the bar keep was in training; we watched as the bartender walked another girl through recipes and helped her make the drinks. The spicy margarita was straight lime juice and basically undrinkable, also not 'spicy'. Note to the restaurant: PLEASE have new bar keeps try the drinks via the straw method because it was bad. And please have your servers actually follow up with the guests and ask how their food and drinks are tasting. Once our food was served, our waiter didn't check on us, nor ask us if we needed anything. Fortunately for them because I would have sent the margaritas back if he had asked. Despite my complaints, I would come back here. I probably just had a "one-off" experience.

Food was delicious! Got the breakfast burrito (Xmas style) and the breakfast bowl. The flavor of the rice and beans was unbelievable. My burrito was one of the best burritos I've ever had. Salsa is spicy in the best way and the michelada was perfectly balanced - beer, tomato juice, clam sauce Service was excellent. Interior is uniquely decorated and the music makes everything come together. Surprised this place wasn't super busy during lunch on Mother's Day. Maybe Tulsa is sleeping on this place?

I cannot say enough good things about La Tertulia. My husband and I have loved our experiences dining here since they opened in downtown Tulsa. My husband isn't a big Mexican food guy but he LOVES La Tertulia. Some of our favorite dishes are the Grilled Trout and the Carne Adovada. Trust us and make sure to order sopapillas on the side - they are divine!!! As far as cocktails go, we haven't tried a drink we don't like. My favorite is the Paloma and my husband loves the Old Fashioned. The service here is always top-notch. In fact, we came in last week before seeing a show at the PAC and our reservation was running late because of the table that was seated ahead of us. The manager and hostesses made sure we were seated with enough time to eat and even pushed our orders to the front of the kitchen so we wouldn't be stressed getting to the show. You can tell they really care about their customers. This place is consistently a 10/10! You have to try it!!

Combination dinner we shared...

Since it's St. Paddy's weekend we felt like some Santa Fe style Mexican food and it was a hit....we got there right at 11am when they opened so it was also a private dining experience. Everything looked fantastic on the menu but we shared the combination dinner and added a soft taco...we also got the appetizer of three chorizo floutas but we ate thise fast and they were great.... very fresh and I don't know how one person could eat this delicious deluxe combination dinner... we got churro and some sopapillias with honey butter...both made fresh to order and amazing. The Bloody Maria was a really great drink...give it s try it's a cool little spot with some good food and friendly staff. Whoever the bartender is did a grest job on thr drinks. Downtown behind Yokozuna across from Arnies bar...

Santa Fe cuisine! This was my first time trying it but it was a nice experience overall. To start, we had chips, salsa, and guacamole. So fresh and tasty! As for the food, I was in a group where we had a mix of tacos and huevos rancheros. It was good- not too spicy, though I would love to try something else in a future visit. The layout is spacious, bright, and has nice decor. Service was friendly and efficient from the time of ordering to receiving the meal. I'd recommend this as a restaurant to enjoy in downtown Tulsa.

Chorizo Flautas

1. The place is aesthetically pleasing. It's cute and makes you feel like you aren't in Oklahoma. 2. The server wasn't great. She rarely checked up on us, didn't ask us if we needed a refill on our drinks, and handed us the check without us asking for it and before even taking our finished plates. She didn't bother to ask us if we wanted dessert. She made us feel very rushed, and the place wasn't even full--there were many empty tables. I'm hoping this isn't what she is like with everyone. 3. My boyfriend and I got the "Chorizo Flautas" as an appetizer. They were very delicious. For entrees, we both got the "burrito plate." The best way I can describe it is flavorless and soggy. For dessert, we got the flan, and it was good. Overall, we spent a total of $72 (not including tip). This place is cute for a date, but other more affordable Mexican restaurants taste WAY better.

How can i make a reservation... the phone number does not work?

Often there are so many people calling at one time it can be difficult to get through. Just hang up, wait a few minutes and try again until you get through. Reservations for week nights are easier. They recommend calling a week to 2 weeks in advance… Read more

That is the extent of any perceived negativity on this business. We come here a lot, not for the ambiance, but for the food. The staff here are extremely friendly and their service is top notch. I recommended that they might consider serving fried flour tortilla chips with guacamole as an appetizer and they made me a batch to try and they were fantastic. Their guacamole is out of this world good and compare it to my homemade guacamole. Their salsa has great flavor and it's plentiful. I'm not really a fan of their queso, but it's appropriate for some dishes. My go to meal here is the Carnitas, it is awesome. We like the street tacos and the Pollo Mexicano is tasty also. I am going to venture out to try some other dishes, but it's hard because their carnitas is soooo good. Give this place a try and you won't be disappointed.

Normally two would have me feeling it. So $4.99 for a non-alcolhic margarita LOL. I ordered the pick 3 dinner. I ordered a beef tostada, beef burrito and beef enchilada. Now I got a taco instead of a tostada and it was less tasty (not saying much at all!) then a taco from Taco Bueno. Both the burrito and the enchilada tasted the same...bland. ONLY meat for a filling. Nothing else, not even cheese. So they really tasted the same which isn't saying much. We won't go back, ever.
