Probably could buy better chips at Walmart. Highly unimpressed. White queso was as expected but nothing knocking my socks off. 2. My husband 4.5/5 rated his birria tacos. I give my plate a 3/5 as it was the fajita smothered burrito. Tasted as expected. Burracha beans (spelling??) was mostly pico de galo type ingredients and very little beans. I was looking for a lunch spot near the John Hope Franklin Center for Reconciliation and ended up here. There were a few other patrons, but I was early on a Saturday and expect business would pick up as the day went on. I was seated quickly and served chops And salad. This is a very convenient spot to get some food if you're in the Arts District, especially since they have parking in front of the restaurant. It's usually a little busy if there's an event happening. Service was decent and helpful. The decor is fun and there is quite a bit of seating. I also like the large windows. I enjoyed the salsa since it tasted very fresh. But the Quesabirria I had was not the best variation of a Birria food I've had and honestly a bit disappointing. Dinner at Mexicali Border Cafe in Downtown Tulsa, OK was just okay. We had a large party and we were able to get seated quickly with dinner reservations. Mexicali Border has a large menu. I ended up choosing the Ultimate Enchiladas, which came with one fajita steak enchilada and one chicken fajita enchilada filled with sautéed pico de gallo and portabella mushrooms. One was topped with queso mixed cheese , cilantro, and ranchera sauce. It was served with rice and Borracha beans. The enchiladas had a good taste but the texture was off. The ambiance was casual with dimly lit lighting. The staff was attentive. Overall, this is a great spot for large groups with a variety of dishes to choose from at a decent price. Took The Kid and The Wife to lunch the other day and she (The Kid) wanted Mexicali, so there we were. Always on point with flavors and service... never disappointing. The wife had her usual queso fundito/casserole dish, while The Kid had the taco salad. I myself broke form and went with the Wet Burrito. No one had any complaints. The wet burrito was much better than I expected. Not being a huge burrito fan, this one rocked. Queso appetizer was on point, and our server was great. The Birria tacos are delicious! The chimichangas are spot on ! The borracho bean soup is the best I've ever had! Cocktail drinks are strong so be careful! Bathroom is spotless, ambiance is not over top and just cool. Service is friendly, funny and pleasant and so fast with the order, but not to where it feels like premade, just fresh. If I could leave zero stars i absolutely would. My order was simple: 2 beef enchiladas, with rice on the side. It was to go and I even asked beforehand what sauce comes on top and the person taking my order answered back in SUCH an annoyed tone. I pay, get home, and the cheese is not even melted on said enchiladas, my rice was borderline cold and almost flavorless. And for $30, I found this absolutely unacceptable. I called the establishment, briefly and politely explained to whoever answered what the problem was, and that I would like to speak to a manager. The first manager did absolutely nothing, not even an apology and almost immediately transferred me over to the GM. I explained the situation politely to him and he did not apologize, and was SWIFT to tell me that he would not issue me a refund and that all of his "line" was up to perfect standard and that "well you have a nice night ma'am with the way you are speaking with/to me". As if he were my parent. And once he realized I was absolutely NOT backing down nor would be talked down to, his exact words were "well if u want a refund so bad then you have an hour to come down here, and we will judge if the food (that of which I barely even touched) is more than a quarter eaten or not and that's the only way we will refund you". The GM is absolutely condescending, cocky, rude and not fit to run ANY food establishment. As it is in the teens outside and i do not want to bring my young child back out, i will not be letting this gross establishment keep my hard earned $30. We were in downtown Tulsa and stopped in here for lunch. I may now have to move here because I absolutely loved this place! The service was excellent as our waitress was very attentive. The food and drinks came out fast and the flavors were amazing. We tried an assortment of things including the tortilla soup, blackened chicken salad, lunch nachos with steak, and chicken with vegetables. The vegetables were grilled and tasted like they were cooked on the grill alongside the steak which gave them incredible flavor. I chose the pineapple mango dressing for the blackened chicken salad and they complimented each other very well. All of our choices were wonderful. My beer came with a lime and salted rim and had a nice frothy head to it. The Paloma Rita had a tahine rim and was tasty as well. Been coming here fairly regularly over the last 3 years and have enjoyed every visit. Great margaritas, great service, and tasty food every time. Be sure to ask for the spicy salsa, and try the Posole they serve in the winter. I've had one of their smothered burritos which had fajita chicken and refried beans, wrapped in a big tortilla and topped with a spicy sauce and queso. It was fantastic. Just caught their lunch menu in time (just before 3pm) to have their Mexico City tacos. It came with two tacos so my partner and I split it as this was between lunch and dinner time. Can't remember all the choices, but we chose to have one beef (steak) taco, and one pork taco. They were both delicious! Came with rice and Boracho beans. You could really taste the "Boracho" in the beans! I think it may have been beer? Rice was good, but not the best I've ever had. The decor was fascinating, in my opinion. There were all Mexican movie, posters all around the restaurant. Could've spent a lot more time there looking at each one, but I didn't. Kind of weird that they weren't playing Mexican music. Instead, they were playing 70s pop folk music. Somewhat disappointing. Also, the owner is not Mexican, so there's that, as well. Their salsa was good as far as salsas go. We were only given the "regular" one to begin with until we asked for a refill and she asked us if we wanted hot or regular. We chose hot! It was slightly hotter, but very tasty. Best meal in a long time! My family took me to Mexicali Border for Mothers' Day because it's near Mayfest. I don't go to downtown Tulsa because it's far from my home and I don't know where to park downtown. My daughter's church is downtown so she was familiar with restaurants there. This hurts to write this review because this is one of my all time favorite Mexican restaurants, but the GM Albert that was at the door last night was the meanest, rudest, most hateful person I have ever came in contact with. We eat at this restaurant before any show we attend downtown and have NEVER been treated the way we were last night. I was so heated I could not believe how incredibly rude this man was, and apparently it is the norm for him to act this way. We spoke with several staff members who expressed their feelings about how he is rude to employees and customers all the time. Not sure how to rate this place. Food was good, service was lacking but it feels like that was due to lack of staff. Came here in on a Monday. It was very busy but I was able to find a spot at the bar. Feels like not enough people were working. Took a really long time to order a drink and then to order dinner. Food came out quickly though. The chimichanga with shredded beef was outstanding. The beans could have used more cheese but I felt like trying to get the attention of the bar tender to request that would be too complicated. My wife and I visit Mexicali Border at the downtown Tulsa location by the Brady theatre at least once a week. We have invited several friends and family to dine with us Everyone says that they are pleased with service and food. We have never had bad service and the food is always great. My wife's favorite is the Queso Monterrey Casserole, I like the Chile Relleno and the Chimichanga. However everything we have ordered have not been a disappointment. Coronavirus has caused restaurants to close indoor dining. With phone in and pick up orders only. The pictures are the to go orders for my wife and I. The enchiladas kind of got messy on my trip home ( my truck seats don't set level) I did like the way they boxed the taco salad by separating the shell and fixings separate to prevent the salad from getting soggy on our trip home. The food was as good as always. The food was hot, curbside service was friendly and on specific time. The only problem I had was they didn't have any chili rellenos I miss dinning in my favorite restaurants. But understand during this trying time that we all have to make concessions. It will soon be over and life will return close to before. However I think it will take time. Please support our restaurants by calling in your order. Go somewhere else! There is a lot better Mexican food all over Tulsa without the risk of being scammed. We had a large party and it was great that we were seated quickly, but I regret coming here. The service was fine and I know handling a big table is a lot of work. But it would have been nice if my order was correct because I was still forced to pay for food that I didn't receive. The problem was that upon wanting to leave there was nobody in sight so I just had to pay instead of being dishonest. But shame on me because this is the second time this has happened. Mexicali Border has been in the Art district for a while and sometimes I wonder how it can sustain being n there because the food is really not great, or at least very overpriced for the quality of it. There a many smaller taco joints in town offering more flavorful tacos for a fraction of the price. Margaritas are okay, but not sure they are worth the price either. The food tastes like regular Tex-Mex chain food with a huge mark up in price. We've been there several times and the place is often empty. My wife had the steak tacos and although it wasn't bad, there was nothing exceptional about them and the $13 price tag for two tacos was hard to digest. After trying Mexicali several times we probably won't return for the food. It might be an okay place to stop by and grab a drink in order to get a coveted parking spot in the art district but beyond that the value of the food is not there for us. read more

This restaurant was right across from my hotel so I came him for dinner. I was seated right away. It was early in the evening so the place was not busy. I ordered their house sauvignon blanc which I believe was from Barefoot. It was okay. Not the best and a bit too sparkling for me but it was worth the low price. For my entrée, I had the chicken fajitas. There were good pieces of chicken, lots of onions and peppers. The refried beans were tasty. And always love the toppings for fajitas.
