This wasn't our first try here. We came back for our son's birthday, hoping the service was better. The good news, food was really good. We were all really happy with it. Too bad the service was horrible. Waited for drink refills, finally was able to flag the waiter over. And they were not busy. Maybe half a dining room, 3 servers. After that, the only time we saw him was to pay our bill. Too bad the rest of our table didn't get refills. When we left, all three servers were sitting at a table rolling silverware. My husband's food was just awful. He got a steak option from them and it came out that looked nothing like their photo and not like the description in the menu. The steak was over cooked, hard, and full of hard stuff that made it impossible to eat. When we tried to let the server know she just told us that, "that is just how it is". She left and we didn't see her again. Well not until we decided we were ready to leave and a different guy working there gave us a check. We found our server outside on the patio with a couple of other workers just sitting there like she didn't have tables to serve. The people next to us just left without their check. Awful place! My husband and I came here since it's pretty close to home. Road work on the road makes it a bit hard to go in and out. I ordered the Steak with shrimp and cheese enchiladas. Everything was seasoned so well and hot. The steak is a great size, only problem I have is that it's cooked a little too well for me. But it was still tender and good, so I still ate it. The cheese enchiladas were good!!! Add the Habanero hot sauce on top of the cheese enchiladas and eat with your steak. Yum!! My daughter got the Cheese Quesadilla. It wasn't too special. But if your child like cheese and tortilla then it's not a bad price at all! Queso was good. But like I said above, add hot sauce to it. Service was good. We had a female waitress that took a little while to come by. So we asked the nice male workers for things and they were all quick to help. Older male waitress was very kind to us as we were leaving. I've driven past Don Julio Mexican Grill many times. I always tell myself that I need to stop and check it out. Well the opportunity finally happened. My wife and I finally gave it a try. I noticed there were several customers dining on the off hours (between lunch and dinner time). To me this is a good sign. the restaurant appeared to be clean with ample seating. The host led us to our table. And was given complimentary chips and salsa. I also ordered a small white queso. The chips and salsa was ok. The Queso had a good flavor. but was very watery and would not stick to the chips. My wife ordered a taco salad. I ordered Kenneth's special. Which had a sample of different items. My wife said her taco salad had a good flavor. But it had no cheese and had slices of tomato instead of diced. And the salad was very watery and left a pool of water in her plate. This resulted in the taco shell being soggy My dinner was a lot of good food. I had no complaints with my dinner. I would like to give five stars but couldn't. Because of the watery queso and soggy taco salad with sliced tomatoes. But my biggest issue was the service was nothing to brag about. Our server was not attentive. He vanished after we were served (he may have been on break). However he never stopped to check on us. And we had to flag him down to get drink refills. read more

I've given this place too many chances. But The Lady That Lives In My House likes mexican food, and el fogon closes too soon. Honestly, I have eaten here about 4-5 times and never enjoyed any meal I was served. The staff is excellent, and the ambiance is typical for this type of place. The food is where it all lands, and it's just slop. I don't like writing bad reviews or being a troll. But the cost of restaurant dining is high now. And this is certainly not worth it. It's always gross and I only ate about 1/3 of my meal every time before I said it was inedible. Encouraged to cook at home now. read more

Average for this place when writing this is a 3.4 and I would say that is pretty close to correct. Not bad and not that great just average. Was not a fan of the chips they were pretty hard. Salsa was good. Taco was a taco. Tortillas on the enchiladas were kinda chewy. Cheese sauce was average on flavor but had good consistency. Beans and rice were good not great but good. Service was good and place seemed clean. Seating was comfortable. I would go back to try them again. read more

After a long wait, we decided to give Don Julio a try. We should've just gone to El Fogon instead. This is a tough review to write, because this visit was clouded by the current trend of people wanting to sit on their ass and draw unemployment rather than work. This night saw TWO SERVERS in the entire restaurant. That included covering the bar. Of those two servers, one was a guy who hustled his butt off, and the other a girl who had a silly smile plastered on her face and moved at about half the pace of the guy. The place was about half full and at no time did she ever pick up the pace, or act the least bit rushed. I genuinely felt sorry for the other server. Had I been the owner, I'd have fired her as soon as I could get a replacement. Okay, that's off my chest. Now, the food. The Wife had chicken enchiladas, The Kid her usual beef nachos, and I, as usual, took a chance on the chile verde. Overall, the food wasn't bad. The Wife's enchiladas had plenty of filling, all well seasoned and flavorful. The Kid's nachos were good as well, given what they were. The chile verde wasn't. It was dry pork that was doused in a fairly decent chile verde sauce. BUT... that's NOT chile verde, and it's the sign of a lazy cook. If you won't do it properly, don't do it at all. So that dish was pretty much a fail for me. Added to all of this was a fairly obnoxious soundtrack that was honestly downright hideous to listen to. After waiting a solid 20 minutes for a drink refill, and listening to The Kid slurp the few drops out of hers, I grabbed our glasses and went to the bar, only to be greeted by a customer holding his empty glass up saying "They're not here either". In just a minute, that hustling server popped up, apologizing because there were only two servers and refilled my drink. Overall, I literally could not wait to get out, and can't imagine what would make me want to go back. read more

Service and attitudes is horrible. Very unfortunate as the food is very good. Actually quit eating here a few years ago because of this and decided to give them another try. First was dine in and food was great but service was very slow although they were not busy. Second visit food was great order was correct. Third visit was absolutely horrendous. My husband and I tried this place for the first time tonight and were really impressed. We were met at the door by our server, Israel. He quickly seated us and had our drinks, chips and salsa.on our table in less than 5 minutes, including my husbands adult beverage. He immediately took our order, turned it in to the kitchen and was back at our table to ask my husband if his drink was ok. While Israels restaurant skills were excellent his social skills were absolutely outstanding. The food was great. The atmosphere was great. I loved their authentic colorful carved chairs. They have recently opened within the last year, so I know they are still figuring things out. I have to admit, my boyfriends more expensive food was pretty good - Grilled chicken, steak, bacon, peppers, onions. However, my food was average. Chile relleno is not good, tasted like it was pre-made and warmed up (soggy too). Chips and salsa are pretty good. The service was really slow and not great. I had talked my husband into Mexican food and was so bummed when pulling up to my favorite Mexican restaurant to see it was closed. So we decided to give this place a try. I ordered the carnitas and my husband ordered the fajitas. I'll start with the salsa. Was given a good amount and it tasted ok. Pretty much just tomatoes. My husband said his fajitas were good but not as good as next door. The carnitas were not good. The pork was so tough. I couldn't eat it and ended up leaving over 3/4 of it on my plate. The beans and rice came out cold for both of us. The waiter never came back to our table after dropping off our food. Not even to bring the ticket. We had to go up to him to get it. Not sure what the problem is with this location but every Mexican food place that comes in, is awful and short-lived. This one is no exception. Had a very odd experience that made us very uncomfortable. Since there are no prices on the drink menu, we asked our waitress. With every question, she had to ask another waiter. She spoke very little English so we suggested that the other waiter come over so we didn't have to have a middleman. Next thing you know, the guy answering the questions became our waiter. When we asked to have our waitress back, he said she was in the bathroom crying! She was completely offended and felt that my husband was being sexist I guess. Ridiculous! That should have been our two to exit the vicinity. However we stayed and had the mediocre food. We tipped accordingly and then tried to leave the waitress a tip as well but she refused and was quite rude about it!
