In need of some potting supplies I didn't want to go to the big boxes again and was so happy to find this local feed store. Wow, there's a lot happening here and it's all awesome: plenty of plants and fruit trees, a big bonsai section, gardening supplies, farm feed and best of all - bunnies and birds! (Seriously, check out this section, I've never seen pigeons like this!) The owner was super helpful and all of the staff was attentive. They let me wander on my own as long as I wanted but we're happy to help when asked. We've been coming to this business ever since they were on Main St. We've had beautiful gardens thanks to the seeds and plants they carry. Everyone here is super friendly and helpful. They will answer your questions and help you with whatever you need. The owners are hands on so it makes this business extra special. You will find anything you need here and if not, they can get it for you. I recommend coming in to check them out. I had a lot of peppers and peppermint this year too. read more

Great place to buy and learn about Bonzai trees, buy vegetable seeds and animal feed. I came to repot my bonzai and met Ken. Instead of just doing it for me he advised to take a clase with him ($25) and it was absolutely worth it. He's not just knowledgeable about it you can tell he's got a love for it and keeps up to date on trends. He showed us how to pick a good pot, what goes into repotting a bonzai and how to water and fertilize it. I definitely want to return and show him how my tree progresses. read more

This place is like a small stamp of country in the big city. Quality Feed and Garden has all sorts of items that one would normally find out in the country farmland area. What first grabs your attention when you approach this place are the cages of various chickens, game hens, Cornish and so forth. Its an open area business that provides a large assortment of dog, bird, and animal feed. You can get garden seeds, trees and even a peacock when they have them in. All the folks working here are very helpful and seem to really enjoy their jobs and it show's when they explain the products. I have bought from here for years. They have every kind of feed, and if not, can get it. I was impressed today when I went there for some animal bait for a trap. The mgr stated he could sell be something, but he recommended going elsewhere where I could get a free product. This place is the real deal for advice, any kind of wild or domesticated food or seed, and I have over the years been very satisfied. I have a large collect of plant species that have very specific cultivation requirements. I literally drove all over town and was calling different gardening/horticultural supplies for pumice & grit. It was terrible, and the worse part is most of these places make it sound like they're doing you a favor for even picking up the phone. Long story short I was about to give up, looking at my list of numbers there was only one place I haven't called yet. I honestly wasn't even going to bother , but I'm so glad I called!! The person who picked up the phone at Quality Feed & Supply was so helpful & pleasant. He was more than happy to show me their grit samples as well. Not only do they sell gardening and feed supplies, they also have a nice bonsai selection outside & live birds! If you're interested in purchasing a bonsai you should definitely take a look. I wanna LOVE this store. I raise chickens, teach backyard chicken classes, so my vision is teach a little workshop, ride my bike over to the super close feed store, show peeps where to get their peeps (har har) and feel jazzed about supporting a local business. I just can't do it. Both time I've been in there I've seen one hen in a crate with a bunch of roosters, getting mounted repeatedly in the five minutes I was there. Thats not good for her body, I have concern for her vent, she had a bunch of feathers missing, and had no where to go to get respite from the horny boys. I didn't like seeing that. They did have a bunch of good feeds, and seemed to be a wonderful place to get supplies. And maybe some folks dont care about things like a rubbed raw hen, but I do. Thanks for reading. read more

Many people don't really know what pigeon racing is and its a relatively unique sport. It's the poor man's horse racing. At any rate, there aren't many feed stores in Houston that specifically caters to pigeon fanciers. Quality Feed & Garden, however, takes the cake. I have raced pigeons since I was a kid and have always gone to Quality Feed for my needs. They have tons of stuff for not only pigeon fanciers but for chickens, dogs, guinea pigs, and other animals not found in a city home. There are have all types of feed, toys, nutrition, vaccinations, and medication for your pet needs.They have a garden in the front that has all types of organic fruits and vegetables. At the beginning of the season I'll pick up some Mortgage Lifters and let them grow all season. Most of the items are way cheaper than going to a big box pet store. Support local businesses! Anyway, It's owned by two guys and I have mainly dealt with Ken as he is usually there when I come and he is super knowledgeable and personable. He use to race pigeons so if you're into that stuff definitely talk to him. It's located on North Main about 2 blocks west of the original Shipley's Donuts. read more

My go to place for advice for the yard and feed for the animals. OK I do not know what they put in that Chicken feed...maybe they have Heisenberg from Breaking Bad up in the attic making his stuff to put in it BUT every animal in my yard domestic or wild flocks to this feed, I mean they don't just flock to it they break down fences trying to get to it! My chickens and ducks have never been healthier or happier! I put out the Grandma's Mix and Chickens, Ducks, Rabbit, Dogs, and every bird in a 10 mile radius comes stampeding for it. I love it. Coming from the Pacific Northwest gardening has been a struggle in Houston, a whole different way of doing things, and a whole new set of BUGS! Ken at Quality Feed is a wealth of information on issues that affect the yard, he always knows just what to give me to kill whatever bug is plaguing my plants, He is one of the most informed and helpful folks I have come across since moving to Houston. I agree with Rowan that sometimes the animals look a little rough around the edges but I have a feeling that they sell their animals fairly quickly and if you told Ken about that hen he would take it out and put it in the right place, they may not have even noticed. Their fowl looks MUCH healthier than many of the other feed stores I have been too. This is my first stop for anything related to my animals or yard, I trust Ken's advice 100% and the prices are very reasonable. read more

This place could be ok under different management but in its current state, it is hopelessly disorganized and inefficient. Customer service is sorely lacking and one of the older men who works there/own the place is extremely rude to female customers. Inventory is inconsistent and management constantly promises to order specific items, but never comes through. Items are overpriced. After 3 years of giving this place chances, I am switching to Jensen Feed. What a shame. read more

This is the most random/expansive pet store I've ever been in, but probably the only one in the Houston area that sells the dry food my picky cat wants to eat. If you own a small farm or random farm animals as pets you have to come here as they will probably have exactly what you need. read more

I've been using this place to buy dog food for at least three years. The staff is always helpful and they carry Victor Grain Free - which is a much better buy than anything a typical pet store carries. I get in and out of there in a matter of minutes right after they carry the bag to my trunk though it's tempting to stick around and chitchat because the owner is so friendly. When I'm here, I feel like I'm in the country -- always a good thing when you live in the city! On the outskirts of the Heights, this store is on the east side of North Main. Enter the parking lot just north of the store. It's a small driveway, but in the back, there's plenty of parking. Now, this is not a big-box store nursery. Rather, it focuses on feed, seeds, chickens, doves, fruit trees. This store has the largest variety of fig and avocado trees that I've seen. It doesn't have all the "familiar" landscaping plants, but rather focuses on harder-to-find seeds and fruit trees. They, also, have dog food, bird seed, and such. There is plenty of help to load up your car, answer your questions. I love this place -- another small business to support. read more

I love this place. The owners and staff are fantastic, always helpful, knowledgeable and very friendly. We come here for premium dog and cat food at a very reasonable price. We've also gotten some flea treatment stuff for the house and yard. We have pretty simple needs but it's clear they serve an extensive demand for a variety of animal owners needs.
