Within 5-10 minutes of being here, I texted my friends that they need to come to this gorgeous nursery. The parking lot is quite small like 10 cars max so go on a weekend or off hours. It was so lush and serene like a hidden oasis. They even had ceramic pots on sale for 20% off. Lots of indoor and outdoor plants. It's Asian owned and they have a cat roaming the nursery. I love this local nursery with good price and a great selection of plants here. If you come here on the weekend, the parking lot will be packed and they will have a worker to direct traffic and help with parking. One of the problem is that some these the price tag for the plants are missing and it is hard to find some one to find the right price. It's always great to support local small business. The worker came up quick to me in a narrow lane and just stared at me so I tried to move but since I it was my first time there I stepped into a deep hole and he just laughed at me. Atmosphere is so bad no one says excuse me or anything they will just stare at you. Generally has interesting plants but I had heard that their prices were constantly changing. We have been loyal customers, but today my mom wanted to get a mum which had two prices $35 and also $29.99 on it. This mum was not looking so great, looked like it was leftover from last year. As she was inquiring with the owner, one of the workers walked up to the plant and then removed the $29.99 sticker and then walked away. So the owner says it's $35 because that's what the sticker says. So we walked away. Not recommended. The prices are on par with other nurseries now and the changing prices are unscrupulous. read more

If you come here, just know what to expect. This is a far cry from Cornelius if that's what you're used to. Good news first, JRN has a large variety of fruit plants especially citrus and exotic fruits like dragonfruit, passionfruit, guava, more. Plus they also have a good selection of bonsai and succulents. It's pretty densely packed nursery. Like the other complaints, I wasn't too pleased with their pricing & "organization." You'll likely find out that the plants that you want are more than what was advertised on the signs, no matter how much you try to explain it. read more

Cute nursery with pretty good prices. The owner is Vietnamese, and I am as well so he was pretty nice to me. However, Vietnamese culture tends to be blunt and rude at times so keep that in mind. Other than that, great place to grab plants but make sure they mark up the right prices. Also, some of the plants don't look like they are being treated the best, so it could be better. All in all, perfect spot to grab new plants to your collection. I grabbed a small rubber plant for $5 and a 4 in string of pearls for $3. The variegation on the rubber plant is beautiful and they had a bigger one for $10! They also had a small fiddle leaf plant for $10 that I'll come back for. The pileas were nearby too, but they were pretty small. I get most of my houseplants from here. they have a very very wide variety. a lot of these reviewers need to just understand that this place is vietnamese owned and they have different culture than Americans as far as customer service goes. the owner is pretty blunt but he's not rude by any stretch. you just gotta know what your looking for. the prices are great as well for a lot of the plants. some will be pricy some are amazing deals. definitely recommend checking it out because the greenhouses are gorgeous read more

We didn't know JRN Nursery existed until a friend told us about it the night before. He's an avid collector of Dessert Roses and I asked him where he purchased them. I was informed that local family owned nurseries had more of a selection in variety so we decided to come see for ourselves! Drove out on a Sunday and it was packed! Yes, the parking lot is a bit small and I can see there's no real overflow parking area, but we managed. The nursery is fairly large, with two whole sections dedicated to fruit trees! I've never seen such an expansive selection of exotic tropical fruits - everything from soursops to guavas and everything in between. We were impressed not only by the selection but by how healthy and well maintained the trees were! The grapefruit trees and some of the other fruit trees already had fruit at a young age! If you're looking for one, why not get it here and get a few years worth of a head start?! There were fruits, vegetables, flowers, bonsais, water plants.. you name it, they must have it! There wasn't anything we were looking for that they didn't have. The owners were busy but knew the store like the back of their hands.. I asked for a specific plant and she directed me to their exact location onsite. There were lots of each type of plant to choose from! I was super impressed by the bonsai room - you can tell these guys were maintained for a long long time! I can see how people would think the owners were rude, but I didn't think so. They were just busy and not overly friendly; which suited me fine cause I don't like people breathing down my back while I'm trying to browse anyways. The pricing could be a bit unclear at times, which makes discrepancies at checkout. You can ask someone outside for a price and the people inside would say something else. I don't think they're trying to cheat anyone, but it would definitely be helpful if everyone was on the same page and the signs were marked clearer. I.e. the 6" Dessert Rose plants were $8.99 but when they rang me up, they were $19.99 each, which was the price for the 1 gallon and my pot definitely wasn't 1 gallon (maybe 2 quarts). But she said it has two different buds/branches for flowers so it was $19.99. There was another sign saying 2 branches were that price but with the smaller pot size, it was really unclear. Maybe tagging all the plants with price tags would make this more obvious for all people involved. We enjoyed ourselves and spent some time browsing here! Its like thrifting. You go and there is an overwhelming amount of unorganized chaos. Most things I picked up had no price or it wasn't legible. Lots of dead discarded plants among seemingly perfectly healthy ones. Its like visiting a hoarder who also happens to sell plants. You can suck it up and weed through it visually but the prices are just not worth it. Better to buy on FB marketplace from people who have nurseries out in Richmond, Sealy etc. Their prices are just not it. read more

I've never been hustled so bad before in my entire life, like seriously?? When I came here it was literally my only day off and I was in a hurry to finish buying all the plants and supplies to build my pond, so I really didn't have time to drive all over town to look for better options (which I now regret). I asked her how much were the water hyacinths and water lilies, she said $5 for each water Hyacinth and $35 for the scraggly small baby water lilies. I decided to order my water lilies online for a WAY better price and quality. The prices for the water hyacinths here are a good price so I decided to just get only one (they multiply like crazy, it's so bad it's actually an invasive species in some lakes in Texas mind you) When I got to the register the lady had an annoyed face asking if that's all I'm purchasing. I don't know why I felt bad so I took a walk around to see what else I could get. I already collect orchids in my home so of course I don't mind buying another one, but the Paphiopedilum orchids in here are in such bad condition they were suffering from crown rot and the leaves are bruised badly. This is terrible especially since orchids are extremely slow growers and will take forever to even grow new leaves if they even will grow new leaves.. the condition they're in.... Eventually gave up on buying anything else, there wasn't much. They mostly have common species of plants you can purchase at any other nursery. I said I only want the water hyacinth for my pond. The lady quickly said it's $10 now cause my water Hyacinth had a tiny baby bulb attached to it then just swiped my card. UHHHHH??? What kind of business practice is this?? I've never had any nursery say this to me. Then I realized it's a $10 minimum for any card transaction. Why couldn't she have just said that to me? Honestly I rather purchase two adult water Hyacinths then pay for one and a tiny bulb attached to it. Mind you some of the bulbs on these water Hyacinths are already rotting, I had to cut off three when I got home. I just didn't have the time to argue with her I wanted to just purchase what I needed and finish my project so I said whatever that's fine. This was so disappointing a garden frequently and collect a lot of plants especially rare orchid species. JRN Nursery looks small from its hectic parking lot, but is actually a wonderland of greenery and might be my new favorite nursery in Houston. What I loved: -The huge, amazing variety of plants that you won't usually find at other nurseries. -Prices are very reasonable and not marked up like other places with less common plants. What I didn't love as much: -My strange experience with pricing. The lady working at the checkout counter rang up a few pothos I picked up for a couple dollars more, even though there was a sign that they were on sale for $1.99. I told her and she fixed the price. Just make sure you double check what they're charging you matches what you should pay for them. -The mosquitoes... make sure you bring bug spray. Overall, I really enjoyed visiting this nursery. You won't find a lot of help if you don't know much about plants, so do your research before coming here. I could have easily spent a few hours looking through the plants here if i wasn't chased out by mosquitoes! read more

This is a great place to buy exotic species and tropical trees. Planted a guava from JRN 2 and it has taken off like a weed! Beautiful bonsai, desert roses, and orchids. Huge selection. Also, as a Vietnamese nursery JRN 2 is a cultural Mecca. You can find great oriental species and cultural figurines. read more

The reviews kind of put me off stopping by here but man, don't listen to them! This place is awesome. Yes, I got bit my mosquitoes so wear some spray lol. But they have an amazing selection of houseplants . I'm a hobbyist and the selection here was great. I didn't see the super rare $300+ cuttings or rare tropicals that are on fire right now (they may be there the place is huge and densely packed) but it's way way better than big box stores. When it comes to pricing I may have an answer here. Same species plants at different growth levels may be proved differently. One may be $39 one may be $49 for an older well established plant. Or $10.99 vs $17.99. It's fair. I will definitely be back read more

But I thought it sounded like a jerk just trying to gain something from nothing. The lady was so sweet and helpful and my plant has new blooms all over it loves it's new home in my room thank you so much. Cute little nursery, full of exotic trees like Kaffir Limes exct. They certainly had what I needed and the prices were very reasonable. The venues is clean and very organized. I loved their large selection of herbs. I find that when I go to most nurseries, they have a limited supply of herbs, and the ones they do have fall in the traditional realm. This awesome, huge nursery is kind of hidden from the road. We only happened to notice it driving up Harwin and briefly seeing a bunch of green and pretty colors through a gap in the wooden fence. A quick lookup in the Yelp app identified it as a nursery with good reviews so in we went. At first, the poster of a religious figure at the entrance made me hesitate whether this was a nursery or not. It doesn't have a bunch of visitors. The parking lot fit maybe only 10 cars or so. I found the biggest variety of Asian fruit trees by far of any nursery here. They also have beautiful flowers, bonsais, and even Asian vegetables growing in pots. I don't know the names of a bunch of the Asian fruits and vegetables. Some fruit trees found were mango, pipaa, papaya, guava, peaches, fuyu persimmon, lime, orange, grapefruit, dragon eye, pomegranate, avocado, apple, loquat, fig, jujube, lychee, etc... Not only do they have all those fruits, there are even different varieties of each fruit tree! Other interesting plants include sugar cane, eggplant, "red flowering quince," "Buddha's Hand," "Buddha's Hat," and beautiful desert roses. The prices are very cheap. A one-gallon rosemary pot was only $4.99. The fruit trees are so cheap that even my Dad considered buying some (and he's the second most frugal person I know). The identity tags of the pots could be a little better. Cornelius Nursery pots always have clear and detailed tags inside the pots identifying name, scientific name, best growing conditions, etc... The plants are healthy and grown well with good technique according to my parents. The nursery is pretty big and packs a lot of plants on their property. I've noticed that Asians seem to like turtle figurines; they also have a bunch of turtle figurines for sale. I took off a star because some of the walkways are a little narrow and uneven. Even clumsy people like me can still maneuver around fine. The walkways are just not the smooth, wide, concrete walkways you find at Cornelius. My favorite nursery for plants and trees. I only buy plants from local growers. Because the climate in Houston is very humid. If I bought a rosemary plant from a grocery store, which came from Florida, It probably will not live very long in my house. Also, they carry freshest sods in the summer and fresh cut Christmas trees in the winter. read more

The couple at the cashier desk are the owners. I had two negative encounters there. First time I went there to buy some used plastic pots. The wife owner told me the price. I started to choose pots. After several minutes, she came back to me and increased the price. Then when I went to check out, her husband tried to charge me an even higher price. I told him his wife gave a different price. He insisted on his price. It was frustrating so I did not buy. Another time, I went to buy a plant. There were two of the exact same plants in the same size pot. One had a price tag, the other one did not. The one without the tag looked slightly better. I took that one. When I went to check out, the male owner started to charge me a higher price. I told him that was not correct, and told him the listed price on the other plant. He went there to check and came back said that tag was loose and then told me it looked like it was changed. He basically accused me of changing the tag. This was very wrong. I did not buy the plant and left the store. That is it. That are the reasons they don't deserve even one star. read more

Despite the few glowing remarks i must agree with the negative reviews. Either the couple is very bad with math or they are trying to overcharge their customers. I always question my total and never have I been charged too little-always charged too much. Always! The place has a lot of interesting plants, some in better condition than others but do not expect the slightest bit of help or courtesy here. You will not get it. Let me just say the only bad part of this place - parking. It's located in front of a busy highway and there only about 10 spots. BUT, the selection of houseplants is great, and nobody can beat the price! I got Hoya Pubicalyx and Obovata for under $20 each, when easily they can cost around $40 or above.
